 A young new warrior raised her crimson eyes to the sky. It was almost dawn. She could see the hint on the horizon that the sun was drawing nigh. Dapplefox kept her jaws tightly clamped. This was her warrior vigil and she wasn't going to speak until the sun came up. The night had been brisk, but her fluffy coat had kept her suitably warm.
Several times during the night, she'd startled from unknown sounds. It was just her nerves getting the best of her. Still she'd kept alert until she'd identified what had made the unexpected sound. The tip of her bushy tail twitched as she glanced around the clearing. Dapplefox identified the various dark openings: nursery, elder den, apprentice den, warrior den, and the leader's den. Her eyes lingered a bit longer on the warrior's den. Soon she'd be sleeping in there.
Her gaze drifted back toward where the sun would rise. The sky was getting brighter now. She inhaled the chill air through her nostrils and checked for any scents. Known or unknown.

 JokerFace rolled in his sleep and ended up on the cold ground. A startle when he had been cozy in his moss nest. He blinked open his eyes and looked around. Looked like everyone was still asleep. Cool! he got first dibs on the freshkill pile. He twitched his tail as he picked his way through the sleeping warriors. He stopped outside the entrance to the warrior's den and licked his fur to try and make the errant tuft on his back stay down. No luck, he looked around and spotted DappleFox sitting her Vigil. His ears perked. Oh right. The naming ceremony was last night. He stretched and went to go pick out his breakfast, he would be hunting all day so better to eat now. He carried his squirrel over to where Dapple fox was and set it down to speak. "You made it through the night! How do you feel?" He sat curling his tail around his paws giving them a bit of protection from the stone.

Her ears perked as she heard movement from the warrior's den. Dapplefox sat up straighter as one of the warriors came out. It's Jokerface, she thought to herself, recognizing his light pelt in the early dawn light. In a way she didn't want this moment to end, and yet she did. She closed her eyes a moment trying to imprint this feeling into herself forever. The moment was shattered by the sound of something, a squirrel she realized opening her eyes, hitting the ground at Jokerface's paws.
"Tired," she answered after eyeballing the sun to be sure it was up before breaking her silence. Soon she'd be able to go claim her bed in the warrior's den. Dapplefox rose to her feet and gave a long stretch. "My rump is sore from sitting there all night." She groomed the fur along one flank. That was an embarrassing first thing to say as a warrior. She looked back at him. "Nothing to report." It had been beautiful, if quiet, night.
"Sleep well?"

JokerFace watched her curiously for a moment and then smirked with a twitch of his ear. He could remember his vigil. It was long and yet he was so proud that he was protecting the camp. He tipped his head. "You would think that you didnt sleep at all last night." His golden eyes twinkled with amusement. He flicked his ears toward the warrior den as he could hear the start of other warriors moving. And then he laughed. "Im sure AppleVenom could take a look at that if you needed him to." He replied, referring to the medicine cat. He nodded. "Thats good." He smiled and glanced around. "Would have beeen a shame to sleep through an awesome battle." He flicked his tail and watched another cat slip out of the den. "Yes I slept very well, knowing our newest warrior was protecting us." He nodded toward the den. "Are you going to wait for DarkCall to wake up before you take your nest?" He had waited for the deputy too just to make sure that the deputy knew he was still there. Not having budged.

She rolled her eyes as his attempted joke fell flat on its face. Was that why he was called Jokerface? Her whiskers twitched with amusement. "Of course I didn't! That would defeat the purpose of the vigil." Dapplefox wrinkled her nose. "I wouldn't bother Applevenom with so minor a detail." She should have gotten up to stretch a couple of times. Nothing a good long sleep really wouldn't cure she was sure.
"Not to fear. I'm sure I could have defended the camp single-pawed," she replied confidently. The young female glanced towards the warrior's den. Dapplefox considered then nodded slowly. "I should wait for my assignment before I go sleep." Plus it probably wouldn't hurt in Darkcall's eyes to see her waiting here patiently for him. She could stay awake for a few more minutes.
"What assignment did you get in your first day?" She asked curiously. She was hoping for a patrol that evening. More than likely, she'd be assigned to hunting for the elders.

JokerFace frowned just slightly as she didnt laugh at his joke. His name probably had come from his failure as a comedian, but his mother named him for the black smile he always had to wear. "Oh right,~ Vigil..." He nodded. "No time for sleeping." He laughed softly. "AppleVenom would probably love to take a look at your bottom... Afterall, he has no patients right now." He smirked. That and the poor medicine cat didnt get to look at many she-cat's bottoms... Medicine cat codes and all... He would never be a medicine cat. He grinned. "Of course you could have! We wouldnt leave our newest warriors if we didnt think it was possible for them to defend the camp by themselves."He nodded. "Probably a good idea. " He licked a paw. "Are you hungry? Nothing says you cant eat after your vigil..." He twitched his ears toward his squirrel. "Im willing to share.""I was on the Dusk Patrol... They let me sleep for a good amount. They are fair." He nodded and bent to chomp on his squirrel. He had to hunt today so he would make sure to bring back lots of prey.

She fluffed out her fur in indignation at the thought of the medicine cat breaking the code, especially with her. "There are the elders to look after. Or he can use this time to gather more supplies." Medicine cats had more dignity than Jokerface. She gave him a withering look, some toms could be so vulgar. Dapplefox shuddered at the thought of heading to the nursery so soon after getting her warrior rank. No, not yet. She wanted to make a name for herself first.
The newest warrior relaxed just slightly at the exaggerated compliment to her skills. She realized that if an attack had occurred she would have had to sound the alarm. Yes, she wanted to prove herself a good warrior of Thunderclan. Her time would come. Dapplefox regarded the tom in slightly warmer favor as he offered to share his squirrel. "I am, thanks." She let him have first bite, it was his squirrel after all, then took one for herself. Cold, but still delicious.
"That's good. I feel like I'll sleep all day." If she'd overslept as an apprentice, usually her mentor or one of the other apprentices woke her up. This time she'd need to be sure to wake up early enough. She was envious that he'd gotten a dusk patrol. If she was lucky maybe she would too! More cats were up and moving about now she noticed, but not Darkcall. "What's keeping him do you think?"

He laughed as he got her going and he twitched his tail with amusement. He was a young warrior yet. So riling up the other warriors was fun to him. He twisted an ear back at the tone but still smirked. "Right... Herbs and Elders... Ill take my hunting patrol... thank you very much." Many warriors would be proud that she wanted to make a name for herself. Others believed that a she-cats job was to become a queen and produce the future of the clan. Most of the second group were toms. He perked up as she seemed to warm up to him a little bit after his rude joke. Her time would come to prove herself. He was still waiting for his as well. He nodded. "You wont though.... At least i didnt.. .I did sleep but i was so excited to go out as a warrior!" He nodded and flicked his tail taking another bite. "Probably just sleeping deeply... You know... feeling all safe and stuff." He ran his tongue over his maw moving back to let her have the rest. He flicked his tail toward the den where he saw DarkCall emerging with one of the senior warriors. He heard DarkCall calling out orders and he waited for the dark cat to walk over. DarkCall nodded to both of them. "Im surprised you are still up, thought you would have taken to bed." He glanced to JokerFace, "You are leading a hunting patrol... Why not pick some cats and get moving." JokerFace nodded and glanced to DappleFox. So did DarkCall. The tom nodded toward the den. "You should get some sleep... then maybe later you can go find JokerFace's hunting party and join up with them?" He glanced between the cats and nodded before heading off. JokerFace flicked his tail "Ill be out all day so go get some sleep... We are going to hunt down by ancient oak..." He flicked his tail and smiled. "Congrats again DappleFox..." Dapplefox nodded. Hunting patrols weren't a bad thing if the prey was running well. In Leafbare they could really be a pain. It was cold and prey hard to find to feed the whole clan. She knew, as every warrior here did, from her time as an apprentice. As grateful to the medicine cats for their skills in healing she wouldn't want to be kept in the medicine den all the time. Even a hunting patrol was better than being in there. It took a special cat to be a medicine cat.
"I'll make sure I wont." Nerves would surely keep her jumping awake all day! Dapplefox gave a snicker as Jokerface laid on the joke about Darkcall sleeping deeply. He must of been up late talking to Loststar. She felt her spine tingle as she finally saw the dark deputy emerge from the den. "Good morning Darkcall," Dapplefox nodded in greeting. "It's my duty to be relieved first." She puffed out her chest, proud to be doing her duty to the clan.
She glanced toward Jokerface as he got his task as he'd expected, hunting. Dapplefox did her best to swallow back her disappointment at only getting a hunting patrol as her first assignment. Oh well, it was a job that needed doing or everyone went hungry. She nodded to both. "Thank you. I'll find you after I've slept Jokerface." With another nod she padded into the warrior's den. It smelled like the cats that bedded down here. She searched for a nest that was empty then fluffed it up before settling in for well deserved rest.

The low angle of the sun coming through the branches told her she'd slept well and deeply. In a rush, the young warrior rose to her feet. She needed to meet Jokerface for hunting! Dapplefox rushed in a quick grooming before bouncing out of the den's entrance. Her deep crimson eyes searched for the tom. The freshkill pile looked quite full. Jokerface had been putting in a good effort. She waited a moment to see if he was in the area, or if she'd have to go search for him. Just before she'd slept, he mentioned he'd be hunting somewhere. After a moment's thought she placed it. The ancient oak.

DarkCall was visibly proud. "You are relieved then~"
JokerFace had grabbed HeartChaser and a couple other warriors and they had headed out. Hunting was abundant in this NewLeaf. So it wasnt hard to catch prey enough to feed the clan cats. His patrol went back and forth and the last time JokerFace was giving the pile a once over. There was plenty. But there was enough time for another hunt. So he turned to head back out when he spotted DappleFox emerging. He flicked his tail. "Boy, you slept longer than a badger in LeafBare" He was joking and tipped his head. "Im just heading out. There is enough time for one more go out before we come back for the night." He headed toward the entrance and waited for her before ducking out to head back into the forest. "Sleep Well?" He was talking quietly, while listening for the scuffling of prey.

Ah, there he is! she thought as the white pelt came into view. He was checking over the freshkill pile as she scampered over to join him. She ducked her head sheepishly as he mentioned how long she'd been asleep. "I was really tired. Needed my beauty sleep you know!"
"I'll come of course." Dapplefox eyed the pile. She could eat when she got back. There would be plenty there surely. The young warrior paced behind him as they made their way out of camp. She moved quietly and confidently through the forest. Her ears on the constant swivel and her mouth open to detect succulent prey.
"Very, I'm much refreshed now," she whispered back. Sounds of prey drew nearer, but Jokerface was closer and in a better position to strike. She waved her tail to show she wasn't going to go after it. Dapplefox moved slightly away as she searched for her own prey so her hunt wouldn't scare his.

He laughed. "Leave it to a she-cat to believe in beauty sleep." He licked he side to try and put the fur back in place. If anyone needed beauty sleep it was him. Maybe if he slept more it would stay in place. He nodded and lead the way out. "Good... then i bet you cant catch me a thrush! Ive been jumping after birds all day... but they have been too fast today..." But then he heard the prey. His ears pinpointed to the prey and his tail flicked as he fell into the crouch that was good for a mouse. He pounced. And before it could scream he had killed it and he came up with the limp body in his jaws. He glanced around and found some roots to bury it by. He was hunting near by. But he didnt want to disrupt her. He glanced at the sun. A little bit more and then he could go back to the camp and have some nice juicy prey.

Dapplefox tilted her head. Did he want a thrush specifically or anything feathered? She was game to try! Her lips split in a grin and to find the scent of any prey. She eased her way between fronds and glanced about a small clearing for unwary prey. At the far edge she spotted a tiny finch searching for seeds. It was almost two small to bother with, but he'd wanted her to find a bird. She watched it for a bit hoping it would get closer.
When it seemed preoccupied, the feline made a dash at the finch. Unfortunately it saw her coming before she was half way across the clearing and disappeared into the sky in a flash of wings. Dapplefox snorted in disgust and shook herself off. No luck, and really it had been too tiny. She moved back into the grasses to try another area. Maybe today just wasn't a good day for birds.

Jokerface had a preference to birds. No he didnt have any windclan blood but he liked the taste... Thrushes were his favorite, but he would be happy with anything. He didnt mean for her to ignore other prey if it showed, but he would love a bird. It was cloudy overhead with a chance of rain, so it generally wasnt a good day for birds, but didnt mean JokerFace wouldnt try where he could. He was off and stalking another small animal and he pounced. He had caught the vole and he lifted his head. Carrying it back to where he buried the other one. He looked around and yawned. The scent of an Owl hit his nose. He looked around and saw that there were pellets below a tree. "Hey DappleFox... Come look..." He sat and looked up.

She turned back from her fruitless endeavors so far when she heard her name. Dapplefox trotted over curiously. "What is it?" She noted the two prey he'd caught. Well at least one of them was having luck. Her nose wrinkled as she caught a whiff of owl. "Hmmmm that's a right big bird if you plan to bring that down. Should we tell Loststar about this?"
A paw reached out to bat at one of the owl pellets. Some fresh, some dry. She raised her gaze up toward the branches to see if the owl was there. If an owl had moved in, they'd need to warn the leader and queens to keep a close watch on the kits. Owls would snatch kits or small apprentices if they could.
