WHO: Lazarus, Xiu, Cruz and Rhedefre WHEN: Spring Afternoon WHERE: The Lab, Living room upstairs
Lazarus thought this was a good idea, inviting a small group of Raevans to get together. Especially after the whole fel essence escaping fiasco, where everyone barely had time to socialize at all, and he was stuck in a team of guardians during the hunt. There were a few Raevans that he wanted to catch up with, or even meet. So he wanted to try this out by inviting a few of them over for a small gathering. Starting with Xiu, of course, Rhedefre and Cruz, whom he barely knew and had been meaning to meet.
"Welcome to the living area!" He ended the short tour of the upper levels of the Lab building in the living room, which is just above the lobby of the Lab, and furthest from the stairs in the back. The living area is simply decorated, with a few couches, a coffee table, a TV on the wall, and a shelf with some decorative objects. For the most part, only Lazarus lives on the upper levels of the Lab. Kyou used to, until he couldn't get up the stairs anymore. Jeremy stayed here for a while too while caring for the Lab and Kyou, but he had since moved back to his own place.
"So um, I was thinking we could play some Jenga. Had you guys played it before?" The Valsaros asked, just in general, to the three Sigels that he invited. A box of brand new Jenga sat on the coffee table. Walking over to it, he opened the box and lifted it away, revealing the neatly stacked wooden tower within.Quote: Game starts after Lazarus had explained the rules. Ignore Rapid's first roll!
When the game starts, the first person will roll a random number from 1-50. The Jenga tower will fall if you get a 1. The next person will minus 1 to their total roll. (ie: Laz rolls 1-50, Cruz rolls 1-49, Xiu rolls 1-48 etc) Whenever you take a block from the Jenga tower and it doesn't fall, you have to tell something about yourself. Can be something you like, something you hate, something you did last week, anything! If you topple the Jenga tower, you will need to tell a deep dark secret about yourself. Kekeke.
First come first serve to decide on post order!! But when RP starts do quote the next RP'er whenever you post. Remember to quote them already when you do the rolling! Gaia notifications don't recognize edited in quotes. Do fill in your post immediately (or soonish) after you've rolled.

DO NOT ROLL UNTIL LAZ ICly EXPLAINS THE RULES. MY BADXiu had to admit that he was surprised and a little intrigued when Lazarus made the sudden call, inviting him and “a few others” to an afternoon of quiet socializing. For a moment Xiu was worried that it would be yet another lab event (he was quite sure that he was not prepared for another one just yet) but was assured that it was not. As it turned out, it was indeed a small gathering of raevans. Cesc was a welcomed and familiar face while the other Sigel was one Xiu had not met before. “Pleased to meet you, I am Xiu and you are…?” At Lazarus’s question, Xiu turned his gaze towards the newly opened box of …stacked sticks. He had seen it advertised on television before and knew the general mechanics of the game but had never played it. “It certainly looks fun. How will we play it?” Xiu asked. Rhedefre was more than happy to get the invitation to come hang out at the Lab. For all he owed the institution, he couldn't say that he spent very much time there--the last time he'd darkened its doorways was the fel essence mishap, and before that was when he'd picked up Guy Smiley as a kittenpup. Both times, he'd spent less time in the building than he might have liked.
But now, coming up to the living area, he felt more connected to the place. He, too, lived above his place of business, and somehow that link made the space feel homey and comfortable to him.
"Hey, look at this!" said the stag with a smile, coming over to the Jenga tower, letting Cruz and Xiu acquaint themselves with one another. He looked up at Laz and nodded amiably, adding: "Oh, for sure! I've played at one of the bars around here, the one on Second and Main? They have them on the tables. It's a good time, for sure!"

In all honesty, Cruz hadn't been sure what to expect when he first received the invitation. It was far from the norm for him, others he had yet to meet making the first move rather than Anita arranging things for him or taking charge himself. The prospect sounded like a lot of fun though, especially in the wake of stress from the essences going missing. Still, if he had to be honest with himself, the croc was a little wary on the choice of location soon after the event.
Seeing Cesc there was a pleasant sight and helped him relax some in the face of their locale. It wasn't meeting new people that made Cruz anxious, far from it; he loved seeing different faces and making new friends. He grinned pleasantly as Xiu introduced himself and extended a hand to the white sigel. "Cruz. Nice to meet you, S-syu?" The pronunciation was a little difficult for him, with those reptile teeth; he winced slightly in apology but was certain he would get it right after practicing a few more times.
He craned his neck to peer at the tower as they were all prompted and shook his head when Lazarus asked. "Heard of it." There were vague memories of commercials but little more. Board games and things like this weren't common in his house compared to video games, of which there was an over abundance, but Cesc put forth a full ringing endorsement that made the crocodile raevan eager to begin.

"Yes, yes exactly!" Lazarus exclaimed when Cesc mentioned the bar. "I saw people playing there too, but I haven't actually tried it myself." He laughed a little nervously. "So this will be my first time as well." Which makes Cesc the only one with experience among them. Taking a seat on the floor with the TV to his back, he waited for everyone to get settled down before he explained the rules. Truth to be told he was quite eager and a little nervous about this, which might be showing on his face since he's not very good at hiding his emotions.
"So basically, the game is to pull one block from the middle of the tower. It can be anywhere, near the top, at the very bottom..." Lazarus began to explain the mechanics of the game as he demonstrated, pulling a block carefully but easily from the left side in the middle of the tower, then putting it up on the right side on top. "Stack it on top, and if the tower doesn't topple over, you're safe! Simple isn't it?"
"But let's spice things up a little bit more." He continued to suggest, smiling a little mischievously. "Let's treat this as an exercise of sorts, kind of, getting to know each other better type of exercise. Once you've put the block up top and the tower doesn't topple, tell us something about yourselves. It can be... anything! What you like, what you dislike, what are your aspirations, something you did last week, a short story of an event that happened to you last month. Really, anything!"
"Well, since I already pulled the first block, I'll start then!" Crossing his legs, Lazarus thought for a bit. "I like... the smell of forests." He said as he glanced over and Cesc's antlers caught his attention, reminding him of the forest. "Especially if it is slightly wet, like after a rain or near bodies of water. I guess I'm sick of smelling the ocean living on Gambino Isle all my life." He laughed as he spoke.
"So... who's next?" Red eyes glanced expectantly around, should they go clock-wise? Xiu would be next then since he's seating next to him, then Cesc who is right opposite of him, and Cruz last.

Xiu smiled as he shook Cruz’s hand, taking note of the other’s interesting features as they often provided hints to a Raevan’s origin. From what he could make out, the fins on Cruz’s back might possibly imply that he was aquatic? And those teeth, they definitely had a carnivorous feel to them… Apart from outrightly asking Cruz about his fel essence and soul (which perhaps should be saved for a time when they knew each other better) Xiu decided to leave it at that. After all they were raevans and that was camaraderie enough for him. Taking a seat beside Lazarus, Xiu nodded as the rules were explained and was surprised when Lazarus added his own take to the game. “Are you sure this would not be something you’d regret later?” teased Xiu as he watched Lazarus stack the first block. Jokes aside though, the idea itself seemed pretty ingenious and Xiu could appreciate that. “I will go next!” volunteered Xiu, raising his hand slightly. Selecting a middle piece quite close to the top and stacking it beside Lazarus’s, Xiu was thoughtful for a moment. “Since we are on the subject of forests…I saw this website dedicated to nothing but pictures of treehouses; honestly, some of the designs shown were fantastic,” Grinning a little sheepishly, Xiu laughed. “I spent close to two hours just browsing the pictures and thinking how splendid it would be to vacation in one,”

Cesc grinned widely as Lazarus explained the rules. "That sounds like a good plan to me!" he said, resting down between Xiu and Cruz around the Jenga board. "And don't let me catch any of you cheating by putting a finger on the tower to steady it while you pull out your piece, ah?"
He shook a pretend-solemn finger at them, but his smile showed his good humor. He listened to Laz's story with cocked, interested ears--he wouldn't have expected that, if he was honest... maybe dry wood, like kindling, but certainly not wet forests. At Xiu's, he laughed.
"Sounds to me like you both need to take a vacation. I wonder if there's anything like that in the Barton forests." He leaned forward as he spoke, taking a side piece from the row just below Xiu's, and placing it gently on top. His other hand remained half-lifted, as though he was balancing, as he made the move.
"Alright... hm... forests." He considered. "Okay, sure, I'll loosely go with the theme. I've only seen another white stag in the forest twice, and neither times did they talk to me. I kind of wonder if I didn't inherit the ability to talk to them." Rhedefre shrugged with a light laugh. "Ah, well!"

The rules seemed simple enough. Cruz listened to them with an eager smile; he loved games but this was certainly a new one -- he liked the twist, as well, considering there were two people here he didn't know and one he wished he knew better. It seemed like a pretty good deal. He had to laugh at Cesc's playful chiding, as well, to which he stuck his tongue out as though he had every plan to do just that (he didn't).
With each pull of a block, Cruz locked his eyes to the tower. Every slight wobble made him tense with a child-like apprehension and each time nothing fell he found himself sighing and smiling. He listened intently to all of the details, though he found himself in mild disagreement with Lazarus about the smell of Gambino; he couldn't ever imagine getting sick of smelling the salty ocean air, it was his home all his life too but that was exactly what it smelled like to him -- home. Cruz chuckled at Xiu's confession partially out of interest and there he had to agree, vacationing in a tree house sounded awesome.
"Can I have the link?" Cruz asked Xiu with a curious grin. Cesc's answer, too, made the croc ponder. He never even tried communicating with crocodiles before but the thought almost made him want to hit up the zoo or aquarium soon to give it a whirl.
Cruz reached for one of the blocks and, while he didn't hold the tower, he did keep a hand on the edge of the table to ground himself. His tongue stuck out in concentration, Cruz paused with every motion which made pulling the block out an arduous process but he succeeded and, with just as much caution, placed it on the top of the pile.
He sat back, thinking. "Ummm," Cruz placed a few fingers over his mouth, his eyes drifted toward the ceiling. Like Cesc, he wanted to at least partially follow the theme but the croc never had much exposure to forests before. "Oh! I've never gone camping. Anywhere but not in the woods, either. It sounds kind of fun, though." He knew Anita would be less than thrilled to do that considering the bugs.

Lazarus smiled at their responses, and the ideas that are spawning from their conversation so far. "You know what, this already sounds like a camping trip in planning." He chuckled as he suggested. "Maybe one that involves a tree house." The Valsaros gave both Xiu and Cruz a meaningful look before diverting his eyes back to the tower again.
Biting his lower lip - a habit he has, he wondered where to pull a block next. Or perhaps he should push? Putting his finger right in the middle of the wooden tower, he gave it a gentle tap on a middle block, pushing it's end out the other side. Leaning over, he pulled it out from Cesc's side carefully, and stacked it right next to Cruz's block on top.
"Easy peasy!" He smiled as he settled back down. "Hmm..." Lazarus pondered, wondering if he should still stick to the forest theme. Perhaps he would. "I want to go hiking with you guys someday. Like, when you get actual legs. It wouldn't be much of a challenge if you float or fly up now wouldn't it?" He smiled cheekily as he looked around the group. Chances are, one of them would grow soon, hopefully. "We could perhaps plan for a hiking trip in the far future?"

Xiu pondered Cesc’s words. Barton was a fairly quaint part of Gaia and there certainly were forests around. Perhaps it was worth some research into the availability of treehouses. When Cesc mentioned seeing other white stags though, Xiu was surprised. “You were hoping that they would talk to you?” the Sigel asked leaning forward ever so slightly with interest. “Considering how rare they are, I am amazed that you have spotted two of them,” Grinning at Cruz, Xiu nodded “Sure. It is called, pardon my language, ******** Yeah Treehouses on tumblr. You should definitely check it out when you have the time,” At the mention of hiking trips sans floating, Xiu stared curiously at Lazarus. He had always wanted to know what it felt like to have legs. “Why? Are legs truly that cumbersome? Rivener seems…to think so. If that is the case, I am quite happy with my current state of being actually,” And in no time at all it was his turn to select a block once again. Giving the tower a thoughtful look, the Sigel decided to be daring this once and chose a side piece from the bottom of the tower. Gently easing the wooden block out, Xiu then stacked it onto the top of the structure. "I would love it if my guardian could come along but I am afraid that she is often busy," said the Sigel softly. "I worry about her sometimes," "Besides, she's not into the outdoors at all," said the Sigel quickly. "All the bugs and leeches and things like that,"

"Well, they might've been the same one. Like I said, he didn't talk to me. And I'm gonna check that tumblr out," said Cesc with a laugh, taking his own piece out of the Jenga tower, another side piece. The tower was still in good enough shape that he wasn't being too surgical with his movements, and he set the piece atop the tower with some ease.
"And hiking? Yeah, sure! I'm ready to have some legs, myself. I'd love to go hiking, camping, fishing, whatever you want--I'm there. He smiled, leaning a little forward on the table, his eyes darting right and left in a mock show of deviousness through his smile. "On that note, I might as well admit it--I've been dying to ask you what it's like, having a full set below the belt. Legs and all the rest."
He laughed with good humor, easy, and sat back. "Does it take some getting used to? I keep hoping it'll just happen with me, and that it'll just be easy.

The name of the website earned another laugh from the croc, but more than that was Xiu's politeness regarding it. He knew there was a time and a place and an audience for cursing, he hardly ever did it despite his family and those extended being more liberal with it, but it was so rare for him to see someone apologize so earnestly for it. Cruz found it endearing and wondered what <******** yeah tree houses" might have sounded like coming from someone just as polite if not more so; what would Ethiriel sound like if she cursed? At least the site was easy enough to remember.
As conversation turned to hiking, turned to legs, Cruz murmured uncertainly. It felt like only a short while ago that he settled into having a longer body, and it was compared to how much time he spent as a frei by comparison. As far as raevans went, he wondered if he was the youngest one here. Hiking in itself didn't seem like a bad idea, though, especially somewhere that didn't have spooky fel essences. And Xiu's guardian, too, held a touch of familiarity from her description. "She sounds like 'Nita," he chuckled, "she doesn't like the buggies either."
It was his turn once more and, like Cesc, the croc wasn't being especially choosy about where he picked blocks from. "Hiking sounds cool but not sure I want legs yet," Cruz admitted with a grimace; he laughed while setting the next block atop the tower and paused with his hand out of the way once it was laid flat to make certain it wouldn't topple. "But um, kinda like Cesc's question, I've been wondering for a while..." Cruz lowered his voice and leaned in towards the table with one hand up near his face as though he were imparting some great secret to Lazarus. "...is it weird having a butt?" This was surely a question only a valsaros among them could answer, as anyone else was so used to having a butt that there couldn't possibly be anything strange about it to them. Cruz only knew that, at least to humans, butts were simultaneously hilarious, attractive for some reason, and also gross -- it was such an odd combination to try and wrap his head around.
Maybe that wasn't much of an admission, at least by this game's standards, but they did learn something about Cruz despite -- that he was confused about the buttocks -- so maybe it would fly on a technicality.

"You're supposed to tell us something about yourself, not something about your guardian." Lazarus chuckled softly at Xiu's little fact about Hazeline. Although it did show that the white Sigel cared deeply for her. "I guess I'll let it slide this time."
The situation however, turned awkward quickly for the only Valsaros in the room, as Cesc and Cruz 'ganged up' on him with questions about legs and butt. His expression was one of incredulous mixed with an equal amount of amusement. His eyes were narrowed as he looked at the pink haired Sigel, then at the green, his lips thinned with an amused smile. "Okay okay." He lifted his hands in defeat. "I'll tell you, but this is worth a block okay?"
Picking a side block from a location that he thinks is safe, he pulled it out with relative ease sideways before placing it on top. Then his eyes returned to the two curious Sigels again.
"Well, it will be weird at first, and certainly a little bit more complicated than growing from Frei to Sigel." Lazarus admitted, remembering the things he had to learn the hard way, like waking up as a Valsaros with a catheter attached to him, and a giant needle in his arm attached to an IV drip. His expression paled a little at the memory, that was surely a rude awakening. Thankfully the experience was pretty hazy since he was on some serious painkillers. So instead he tried to focus on the things after that. "There are quite a few things to learn, like walking, and going to the bathroom." He frowned a little at that last part, admittedly not something he liked about having a fully functional body. "Basically my body works like a normal human now, I have to eat, and not just fire... or sunlight like Cesc either. Real food, like humans do. So that comes with the more unpleasant side of things, like peeing and pooping." Lazarus explained, feeling a little weird doing so.
"However, it's all worth it! Some of the food out there that we can't really eat as Frei or Sigel, are so freaking delicious! I like walking, running too. I like feeling the ground under my feet, it makes me feel... grounded? If that makes sense?" He laughed softly before turning to Cruz. "Eh, my butt is fine, I don't really pay attention to it. It's located behind us anyway so I don't actually see it all the time unless I look in the mirror. I think the stuff in front is weirder."

“Maybe it is because bugs are weird creatures close up. And they can get pretty close up when they are flying around erratically,” postulated Xiu with a chuckle. “Yeah, I can see why our guardians might not like that,” Smiling sheepishly at Lazarus’s comment, Xiu nodded. “Understood. I’ll keep that in mind,” However, the talk soon shifted to how it felt like being a Valsaros and Xiu found himself both intrigued and mortified. Especially when the subject came around to urinating, defecating and the general acceptance of butts. “T-That sounds like quite a lot of functions to carry out,” said the Sigel awkwardly. When Lazarus cryptically mentioned about his front though, Xiu refused to take the bait. There was a reason why humans covered themselves up and considered it impolite to walk around clothless. And the thought of Lazarus possessing something “weird” in front was… Torn with curiosity but bounded by reservations, Xiu quickly turned his attention to the wooden blocks before him. Picking up a centre piece, Xiu placed it on the top of the Jenga tower. “Am I…the only one afraid of what it takes to induce growth in a raevan?” the Sigel asked quietly.

Cesc's expression, while still retaining the levity of his smile, was tinged with apology--he hadn't meant to make Lazarus uncomfortable by his curiosity, although he did feel he had to confess it. For all Cesc knew, Lazarus was the only Valsaros, and thus the only one of them who'd gone through every stage of having and not having a body and limbs. Only he knew what it was like to go from floating everywhere and relying on wings to being able to run.
"Sorry to put you on the spot," he said, leaning back. "You're the pioneer--we're all just waiting to go down your path now, comfortable, uncomfortable, great or terrible or indifferent." He smiled then, but as Xiu spoke, it faded into a line. His mind supplied images: Lazarus in the cemetery. Zurine in the woods. Ethiriel in her bed. Himself, his eyes refocusing on the floor of the bakery, a new Sigel. Not one of them had made it through on the strength of happiness. He darted a quick look at Cruz, wondering...
"Yeah, no, I agree. It's kind of terrifying," he sighed, leaning forward and taking another block out--with his lack of concentration, the tower wobbled, and Cesc held his breath, half-waiting for it to crash. When it didn't, he gingerly set the block on top, his bottom lip in his teeth.
"Okay! Let me lighten this up a bit. I confess that I..." He drummed his fingers on his arm, thinking. I made homemade treats for Guy Smiley and Grumpaws--good stuff for them, based with peanut butter but with a little chicken stock and flaxseed and stuff. So I had them out on the counter, wanting to pack them up for a few friends, and a customer ate one? I had to lie to him and tell them they were new free samples. He ate two more dog treats, told me they tasted 'kinda meaty, but he didn't mind it,' and left. There you have it. I...I let a customer eat dog treats."
