The air was cool on her skin as a small figure meandered the streets of New Hemisect City, carrying a small purse stuffed to the brim. Progress had been slow these past few nights in Civisect and she'd decided that a change of scenery was what she needed. Surely the trolls in NHC would be far more understanding of her research, her greatness, her destiny. Finding a street corner by what appeared to be a mess of apartments, Flydra Dromen set up shop. Checking over her vials and syringes, she carefully arranged her resources before pulling out a stack of business cards. Spotting her first specimen of the night, the tealblood called out.
"Make a donation for the betterment of Alternia!" The troll looked at her in confusion before waving her away with a grumble under his breath about keeping his beetles for himself. She really didn't understand why people kept talking about them. Flydra was aiming to be a hematologist after all, not an entomologist. People could be so foolish sometimes.
This exchange repeated with a few slight variations a couple more times. Flydra's cool determined spirit never wavered though. She was lucky enough to get about two trolls to go along with her study, although one seemed queasy and near throwing up by the end. It was just a part of the body, what was so gross about that? They had to live inside these things every night. Strange.
A young troll around her own age drew closer and Flydra smiled at her. Something about this one seemed different, almost dangerous. Those kinds of people fascinated the tealblood and she motioned at the lowblood to come to her. Who knew, maybe it would work? The scientist was aware of her rank and not ashamed to use it if needed.
"Do you desire strength and power?" Most trolls did, it was a hook that had worked some of the time. "I can give you that if you'd make a small donation."
A single shiny needle glinted in the moonlight.

After crushing it at the gym, a gold figure cruised down the street in high spirits. She felt badass, she'd bested her last time on the running machine and was getting strong enough to lift heavier weights. While Scorpa was nowhere near the level she wanted to be at, it was progress and it felt good.
'Maybe I should change my diet.' The young troll pondered, still looking for ways to speed up her growth. She wasn't of age to be in the military front lines yet but desperately wanted to get started. The thrill of battle called to her! She needed that glory. A voice sounded and offered it to her.
"Of course." Scorpa grinned. She hadn't been expecting a tealblood to gesture her over but was curious to see what she wanted. The girl looked a little odd in her frilly lab coat but it didn't trigger any alarms. Just was a bit quirky. At the mention of a donation, the yellowblood frowned. She didn't have a lot of beetles currently so that would be hard. Or wait, what was that?
"Ohhh, you want my blood?" It was definitely getting weird but what could it hurt? Scorpa had never been proud of her bloodcolor but if it was what the higher blood wanted in exchange for some sort of boost she'd bite. The deal was a little sketch but Scorpa was not above trying anything to get results.
"Go ahead." She offered her arm to the rainbow collector.

The other troll extended her arm confidently with no signs of hesitation or fear. That was unusual these days. Most people wanted something in return or had an irrational anxiety that the needle would be unbearably painful. This yellowblood was clearly unafraid of pain and knew her station as a lowblood following the wills of those higher than her.
"Really? Your donation is highly appreciated." The needle went in. Flydra collected a sample and smiled at the golden vial before capping it and giving Scorpa's arm a small gray bandaid. Perhaps this was a troll worth a continued conversation.
"My name's Flydra Dromen. I'm a scientist investigating the hemospectrum. I'm also learning how to biologically enhance trolls." She stuck out her hand to shake the taller girl's own. "You seem like someone worthy of pioneering the cause with me. Already strong and ready to push your limits." Flattery always helped her get in good with higher bloods, it probably would do the same with lowbloods. Plus, it was halfway sincere.
"What do you think? Are you interested in becoming my research subject? It's all safe but I need a willing troll to try it." Part of that was a lie but she would do her best to make sure no permanent harm would come to any of her test subjects!

'Yow!' Scorpa winced at the needle pricking her but tried to keep a stoic face. She didn't want the other troll to think her weak! It was over before she could blink twice and Scorpa lowered her arm in relief. The tealblood wasn't done with her, however, and she shook the hand offered to her.
"Biologically enhance?" The words were foreign but intriguing. What did that entail? Eager to become stronger, Scorpa was willing to try anything to raise her lot in life. If it meant getting stabbed by another needle then fine! The events of today had already shown her that it wasn't as bad as it seemed. Plus, the way Flydra was talking to her made the yellowblood puff up in pride. Yes, she was already strong and a trailblazer! She was totally all of those things!
"Sign me up! You won't find anyone better than me!" Scorpa boasted. She didn't really need to sell herself to the already interested Flydra but bragging was in her nature. Flexing so the nurse got a taste of her power, the girl looked smug. There was no mistaking her willingness now!
"I'm Scorpa Devile and I'm going to be the greatest military general there ever was, one day!" The child introduced herself and laid her ambitions on the table. They had to be sure they were both heading in the same direction here!

This yellowblood was incredibly confident but still respectful. That was admirable. And she had big aspirations to climb towards! A military general, huh? Flydra found that a wonderful goal. Scorpa was putting herself to good use for the Queen as a soldier. It inspired Flydra to do her best as well. They were all lucky to live under the Queen's rule with the things she provided for them. Good citizens would look for ways to repay the favor. In return, the crown would reward them for their services. What luck that she had run into someone with the same principles as herself!
"That's a beautiful dream, Scorpa. I hope I can help you achieve it." She smiled, sincerely wishing the other girl the best. Normally she didn't care much what happened to lowbloods but this was an exceptional one in front of her. Occasionally you did find people that broke the mold, that would make it big someday. Pulling a paper from her notebook, the tealblood wrote out her address for the other girl. They would need to be in contact for this partnership to work.
"I live in Civisect. My lab is in my hive." It wasn't much of a laboratory yet, it only had the basic things that a child could buy. But someday it would be a sight to behold with equipment crammed in every corner and experiences running all the time. She'd boasted to Scorpa that she was working on bio enhancements but the truth was, she hadn't gotten very far in that venture yet. Thankfully the fashionista would not be able to tell if she was behind on progress.
"We would both benefit from a sponsor. If you should find a higherblood willing to help us, you must let me know. I will do the same!" There was no shame in crawling at the feet of a purpleblood or seadweller. That was what the hemospectrum was there for. The lower ranks depended on the higher ones to support them while in turn protecting the interests and reputations of the clients. She looked to meet Scorpa's eyes, wondering if the other girl felt the same.

"Oh man you have a lab?! That's hella cool!" Scorpa gasped in awe. None of her other friends had anything of that nature in their hives! This upped Flydra in her list of cool people significantly. Sure she was only a tealblood but it put her up with other highbloods immediately.
"I've been looking for one already! If I meet someone then I'll definitely introduce you." The yellowblood thumped her chest with a grin. She couldn't say she knew the tealblood closely but something about the other girl just felt right. Though her expression was calm and subtle, the passion in those eyes was unmistakable.
"We're going places, I promise. So dream big!" Linking arms with the other girl, she walked with her, chatting for hours while they peddled for more donations for the betterment of Alternia.
