Shelley sighed, tracing a finger against the plastic chair she stood behind. Extracurricular events such as bake sales were the least of her interests, but she found herself forced into the duties of one due to her frequent absences from school as of late. The teen thought she could avoid the ordeal of school altogether by putting patrols first, but reality came back to bite her in the butt when teachers started to notice.
Her bottom lip jutted out as she fixed a glare to a member of the PTA who incited her punishment, saying she, "needed to redeem herself for her misbehavior."
I'll redeem myself by shoving my foot down your—
That hostile thought was cut short as someone glanced at the sweet and sugary delights on her table. She beamed a welcoming smile at them, but they continued walking, and her face returned to a doleful frown.
Save me, I really hate this, ahhh, the girl screamed internally. I could be patrolling right now! Patrolling! Someone, please!
Graceangel Hope this is okay! I'll get the battle one up shortly~

The tale of how Lindsey ended up here at the school helping run this bake sale was quite the domino effect. She had brought some baked goods to the hospital one day. When her fiance's coworkers greeted her; one of the nurses who manned the desk there had approached her about all the stuff she makes. Then, she had asked Lindsey if she would consider donating to her daughter's bake sale. Lindsey with nothing better to do had agreed.
Well, she could have been out doing knight things, but Lindsey had little interest in doing all of that. She had been put in touch with someone else who was in charge of all of this. That person freely took Lindsey up on having her bake a lot for this event; so down the hallway with a rolling cart came Lindsey with reinforcements. One was a towering stack of plates with cookies. A small triple stack of cupcakes, and then there were a few cheesecakes and pies in there.
Linds nodded and smiled at the leader around here. "Aw yeah... It's fine. It's no trouble. If I had a business card, I'd give you one. Then you guys could contact me anytime you're needing a hand."
To some that might sound altruistic, but it wasn't. Linds still believed in sewing the seeds of personal fame. She then started to grab plates and find good spots for them on the table. She lightly tapped one girl who just looked like she was standing around on the arm.
"Hi... Would you be able to help me put some of those plates over here? I'm gonna take the cheesecake out of the tins."

Shelley had been as stiff as a scarecrow in a field, unsure of what she should do but stand around. Obviously, it would've garnered her some brownie (heh) points if she actively helped out, but her sour mood and desire to be on a patrol were at odds with her being personable.
When she felt a tap on the shoulder, she turned to take in an older woman requesting her assistance. For a moment, she actually considered turning back and returning to her idle standing and staring, but relented and realized she shouldn't direct her anger at someone who wasn't to blame.
"Sure, sure, just give me a moment..." Shelley said as she strode over. Reaching a hand out for one of the plates, she slid it onto the table. Despite her reluctance, she also tried to be conversational. "So the cakes, what flavor are they?"

Lindsey gave a quick friendly grin to the girl. As she helped move those trays onto the table, she turned hearing the question. Her grin smoothed into an extremely happy go lucky sort of smile.
"Well, since you ask, the plate that has the pink wrappers have an angel food cake base with cannoli filling in them. The blue wrappers are a traditional chocolate cupcake, and the wrappers that look mostly white have a cherry chip cake base with a little actual cherry topping on top. I wasn't sure if the flavor would end up to be too decadent for cupcakes, but cupcakes are all the rage these days. I noticed the local mall had two new shop. One of them even offers a huge massive cupcake for birthdays and all that."
Yeah. Probably only Lindsey kept up with stuff like that. She kept track of all the bakeries in town. She tried to stay up to date on who offered what. Since adjusting to this newer version of herself, she had filled her time with getting better at other baking besides just pies.
"What is your favorite flavor of cake? And, do you prefer cake or pies? Most people seem to have a distinct preference for one or the other."

Shelley's mouth began to water, but she swallowed thickly to hide just how delicious all of the sweets sounded. She sometimes went hours without meals when on a patrol because she was so concentrated on keeping vigil. This, challenged against the need to sleep, and sleep would win out, tacking on more time.
"Oh, no, no, I don't think it sounds too decadent at all. In fact, I think it would be a bestseller." She gave a small laugh. "People would just eat it up."
At that moment, any type of cake would've been her favorite, but Shelley answered, "Coconut. I know not everyone shares the same opinion because the flecks can get caught in your teeth and the like, but I really do love coconut. Coconut anything, heh. Mmm... I would say pie a little more. Especially with ice cream, coconut ice cream. And yours?"

Lindsey basked in this positive response to her. That translated as her having spot on instinct. The ideas of how to perfectly garnish what she made. This is why she deserved to be famous for what came out of her ovens.
"I'm so glad you think so! I look forward to seeing people buy them. All the more to help next year's class get a fun trip."
Listening to the take on coconut. Lindsey nodded. She thought about coconut. She hadn't used it very often. She has in recipes for german chocolate cake as well as a few other things.
"Well, using coconut is definitely one of those areas I should experiment with more. My personal favorites are cherries, strawberries, and apples in that order. Though every now and then I enjoy things with lime or kiwi as well."
She mused for a moment looking at this girl wistfully. "If I were to experiment and make some stuff; could I count on you to help me do something with it? Just in case I personally didn't like it?"
She tried to think. Did she like coconut? She couldn't remember not liking it. It just seemed one of those things she didn't use nearly enough. Same for l lemon.

Shelley's eyes sparkled; that little glint that overcame them when something amused or delighted her. She nodded her head eagerly, a toothy little smile overtaking her face.
"Oh, geez, yes, I would love that," she said. "I really can't pass up an offer for anything coconut, heh! I'll gobble up whatever you don't deem satisfactory. Cherries are delicious as well with strawberries and apples, though I can't say I've had much with lime or kiwi."
She hadn't really been connecting the dots lately, but she couldn't help but c**k her head as she thought on the subject at hand and Lindsey's know-how. "Say, you wouldn't happen to be a baker or something?" she asked. "You seem to know a lot about desserts and stuff. I don't really know my way around a kitchen, considering just frying up an egg takes effort, but that's really admirable if you are. Heck, even if you aren't." She gave a sheepish smile at the ending remark. "How'd you end up selling for this bake sale anyway, if you don't mind me asking?"

It had been a while since she got to prop herself up on a pedestal about her baking. Her ego was feeling quite happy. Geniune smiles started to plaster across her cheeks with no signs of stopping. Gosh. If there was something she liked so much; it was definitely to talk about herself. Talking about her baking? Oh yes. Gosh.
"Great! We'll have to exchange phone numbers or facebooks... emails.. something like that. Then, you can have the option to either come over when I'm doing the experimenting, or I can drop them off somewhere convenient for you."
Lindsey beamed even brighter. A chance to just go on about herself? This was so perfect. Today was exactly what she had been needing. So much generosity and selflessness that had become a lot of her life over the last year; deep down, she really just wanted to do for her. Have people to talk to. Be able to bask in the depths of her conceitedness. Exude to new faces just how amazing she was.
"Well, my grandparents are from France. I have distant relatives in a small French country town that has a bakery." She stopped. Oh yeah... She probably shouldn't name anything the same as Cherry would have. She then figured she better becareful about her excitement to talk about herself.
"I mean... I do dream to one day be a famous baker. When I was younger like five years ago, I used to want to have my own bakery. A friend helped me see that if I were to open a bakery; then I'd have to bake things other people wanted. I would much rather make what I want to."
She paused on whether she should divulge the next part as she set another plate on the table arranging it for great presentation.
"I actually have an idea. It'd be like a cooking tv show... only on the internet. There's that um.. what they call it.... Youtube? Well... if I could find people who know how to record and publish it; I could do a series on baking stuff. Put it on there. Only thing is that even while I'm lightly aware of the great technology to do it; I myself am not very good with those sorts of things. You don't happen to know how to do that; do you?"
She hadn't answered how she ended up here. She could relate that a little later.

Shelley pressed her hands together and smiled. Happiness was an infectious aspect for the girl and she latched on to any depictions of it from others like it was her own. Having such a individual to converse with, especially one dedicated to their craft, was the best way to break her from her frustrated stupor. Sure, her circumstance stunk, but made better by some personable company.
"Oh, sure, sure!" Shelley said. She slipped her cell phone from her pocket and tilted her head, prepared to do so. "Whatever you'd think is best."
Her interests were piqued and she lowered her cell phone to listen in on Lindsey's plans for her baking. She found herself giddy again and smiled.
"Oh, wow, oh, wow. I love hearing what people are passionate about. I'm musically-inclined myself. Haven't been playing the flute as long, but I'd love to end up in an orchestra somewhere." If her father let her, that was.
"That sounds like a fantastic idea," she cried. "I mean, not only is that a great way to continue your baking, but also promote yourself." Her lip became a slanted line on her face then. "I don't know much about video editing, or, well, filming in general, but I am sure the AV club can help you. If you want to make an account or something, I can do that much. Right from my phone, even. Just to get you started."

Lindsey grinned hard. She couldn't believe it. The chance of being here and meeting this girl. Linds wished she had gotten involved with something of this sort sooner. Then again, she had no way to know if Shelley would have been here to help then though. Being told whatever she thought was best, Lindsey's eyes widened as her pupils expanded. This was like a cat watching a bird in a cage.
She began to wonder about propriety. Not that propriety was any of Lindsey's closet of qualities, but she had to wonder what her Fiance would say if he came home from work to find this girl in their kitchen. Would her parents think that Lindsey was a predator? She sat her thoughts on the backburner as she was asked by another one of the adults present to list the things she had brought. The PTA representative seemed quite pleased about the cheesecake.
Lindsey pulled her phone out too and was swapping numbers with the girl. "Let's start with facebook. Just for the comfort of your parents. When they know who I am and don't freak out about an adult calling you; then we can switch phone numbers."
Listening to the girl get excited, Lindsey mused how nice it must be to be this young and so exuberant. "Aw, music is great! My fiance and his sister are very musically inclined as well. I hope my children I have one day become so as well. Being in a world famous symphony orchestra is a great goal to be had for sure! If nothing else, it might get you college scholarships. You could go study abroad; you know, visit other countries."
Linds also thought that would be a great way for a great young person to escape the dangers of this city. This town was trafficking central ground zero with its youth swallowed up in this war that goes on behind the scenes.
"The AV club? Could you help me with that?" Then, hearing if she wanted to make an account or something. "Can I do that? Even if I'm not a student?"
She did love the idea of marketing herself.

Shelley waved a hand. "They really won't mind or, erm, care," she said, giving a sheepish laugh. "As long as you're not going to hold me for ransom or something, they'll be pretty lax."
Her smile waned slightly, but mostly in earnest at the possibilities Lindsey presented. "Ahhh, that would be nice," she said dreamily, a small glint to her eyes. "To get any kind of offer like that would great, but it's all wishful thinking. A'sides, I kinda have something else keeping me busy, heh. Haven't had time to practice lately."
Of course, going into her knight duties was a big no-no, so she kept it was subtle as possible. Looking back on it now, Shelley did place a little too much emphasis on her powered life, much to her chagrin.
Shelley nodded her head. "Yep! You don't even need to be a student, look"—Shelley tapped around on her phone before showing Lindsey the sign-up page—"you can put in your information and email now, making a channel, and then we can talk to the AV club later—maybe after this?—to ask them about filming equipment and editing."
