Silverstar looked out around the clearing. She needed to get out, signaling her deputy, BloodRunner, she told him that she was going to go out on a patrol this morning. He convinced her that it would be best to take at least one warrior with her, preferably two or three but she flicked her tail dismissivly. It was a time of relative peace. Prey ran abundant in every clan, well a little less in shadowclan if you asked the shadow clan cats, and less in Thunderclan if you asked a thunderclan cat, but in general no one was crossing lines. But she glanced around and noticed one of her warriors and she trotted over. "FroreEmber." She tipped her head slightly. "Want to go out on Patrol?" She flicked her tail easily and glanced to the entrance it was easy to see she was going to go alone if the warrior chose the answer no.

Froreember

Frorember's hushed murmurings to himself ceased as he noticed another cat approach, but didn't quite switch his attention to them until they withing two tail lengths. The confident stride to those steps and familiar scent could only be one cat and he offered a pleasant smile to Silverstar, ducking his head lightly in respect when she addressed him.

"Silverstar," he greeted. A beat passed as he considered her offer. It was early yet and not too many warriors were up and about. Many were enjoying the lazy lull of peace, if only for a few days. Good seasons were always a cause for some relaxation. Still, you needed cats to remain diligent to make up for those that took the deserved break. Offering another gentle smile, his right ear twitching down, Froreember offered a nod. Standing and shaking himself out, long tail giving a lash to shake off dust, he stood at attention.

"After you, of course, Silverstar."

Silverstar was pleased with the fact that he was up and moving, though his murmurings had gone unnoticed by her. She liked to be up early herself, So the dawn patrol was her favorite. Other Warriors sometimes dreaded it and so when he nodded she grinned. "Good then! Lets head out" She twitched her tail and restrained herself from bounding out of camp like a kit. She had been busy in camp for the last few days that she had barely gotten a chance to go make dirt let alone go out and enjoy the fresh air. She restrained herself though and with a twitch of her tail she walked formally out of the camp. It only lasted until the camp was out of sight. She glanced at Froreember and stretched happily in a little patch of dawn sun coming up, before she smiled. "Thank you for coming along," She twitched her ears. None of her clan knew she was on her last life, they had all lost count and she didnt feel the need to correct them. So she was going to enjoy her moments until she couldnt anymore. "Lets do Riverclan border first shall we?" She hoped he would eventually drop the ridged formal behavior after a while. Afterall, she was going to enjoy this Greenleaf morning. She knew that some of the warriors started treating her differently when she became leader. They no longer laughed with her or wanted to just chat. Which she loved that they respected her, but it sometimes made her feel like she was all alone in a camp full of cats.

Froreember

Fororeember smiled good naturedly as Silverstar;s frame lost its tension as camp was left behind. Sun dappled the ground, dancing in patterns across his vision. The scent of moist earth and grass mixed with traces of prey-smell and his clanmates was uplifting, especially after the rough leafbare not long ago.

"Of course," he said gamely. After all, he was happy to serve his clan, even something not so grand, like a relaxed dawn patrol. Something about Silverstar's demeanor was telling him this whole thing may end up being less work and more play. Every cat needed a break though, and as leader, she certainly bore the brunt of the stress in ShadowClan.

"That's more than fine," Froeember responded to her suggestion. He chuckled softly as he took another once over of his leader and how she twitched and shifted and seemed so eager. It was certainly heartening. "It's just nice to be out and enjoy the weather, no?"

She had sort of a pep to her step that she normally didnt carry. She took a deep breath and angled her ears toward the sounds of the prey she scented. But she wasnt hunting right now. She slowed so she was walking with him rather than swishing her tail in his face. "So recently we havent heard anything from riverclan, they seem to be staying to their side of the boundary which is good. And you know Thunderclan would starve before they crossed borders to hunt." Her eyes glimmered. "So really all we are looking for is anything abnormal, or signs that the clans are getting tired of being at peace." She nodded.

And it really was feeling that way, afterall, peace was peace. She fell into a companionable silence after a moment, listening to the sounds of the territory. She glanced back and nodded. "Well yes, But other animals will be too." She was walking happily when a butterfly fluttered too close. Without warning, she pounced. Yes, this was the shecat that had ordered an attack on thunderclan, she was also the shecat that would make the fiercest demands at the gatherings. This fierce cat, just pounced a butterfly like a kit. Successfully catching said fluttering insect she held it down a moment only to let it go again. She sat a moment to watch it go. Glancing to Froreember, she flicked an ear, er... sorry about that. She laughed just a bit and stood back up. "Right so riverclan..."

Froreember

Froreember glanced to the side to meet Silverstar's gaze for a moment as she issued instructions for their patrol, his left ear flicking down. He hummed his understanding, allowing his focus to drift as he admired the early morning. It was a shame to think that anyone would want to break this peace out of malice or spite. Isn't this what they all strove for? To be able to coexist?

He paused when Silverstar leapt, blinking a few times before laughing softly. While perhaps befitting of a leader and a warrior out on dawn patrol to upkeep borders, the giddiness was infectious.

"You're as excited as a kit out of camp for the first time," Fororeember commented as they walked. There was no malice to it, but certainly some amusement. "But being excited about life is never a bad thing. Is greenleaf helping you rediscover that or was Bloodrunner sucking it out of you this whole time?"

SilverStar was sure that the peace would end. It always did. Happy was a relative thing. If happy during leafbare was well fed than happy in greenleaf had to be more than well fed. It was always that way. She mentally shook that dower thought.

She flushed slightly under her fur but drew up. "Ive been cloistered in too long. Ive always loved the feel of being out on patrol." She flicked her and spotted another butterfly. "Welll..." She glanced pointedly at the other butterfly. Well she hadnt stated it was an order but her eyes glittered with mischief. Would her warrior take the chance to act like a kit too?

She stretched and then she glanced at Froreembber. Did he know? She took on a slightly hunted look for half a second but she forced it away. "Just the spring air i think." BloodRunner had been appointed only a few moons ago. She had done it not because she trusted him, not because he was good for the position... but because he cornered her and told her the only thing that could have black mailed her. That he knew where her sister was. So she had promoted him. And so far he hadnt attempted anything, but she always did keep an eye on her back.

She tried to go back to being happy but there was a different air now.

Froreember

"I don't think any of us like being cooped up for too long," Froreember replied. Her posturing in response to the teasing was quite funny, really.

The pointed glance Silverstar gave towards another butterfly was quite clear. He chuffed a small laugh, eyes catching on the colorful insect. His ears pricked and his tail swept behind him slowly. He eyed the butterfly as it fluttered near them, waiting until is was just close enough.

Quick as a snake, he was upright on his haunches, a forepaw batting the butterfly forward in the air. He didn't wish to harm the thing and pouncing could break the wings if too much force was put into it. Still, a smile curled his maw as his own childish behavior. How silly this was.

He launched himself into the air, up and over the insect, turning his head upon landing to see the thing beating a hasty retreat from the obviously crazed giant thing harassing it.

Turning back, Froreember's smile drropped a little and he considered his leader seriously, head cocked and left ear drawn down. As he'd waited for the right moment to swipe at the butterfly, he'd seen a flash of tension take hold of her for a moment. It was small and quick, but it had certainly been real. Carefully he sat back, tail curling in close as he considered the warrior before him.

Hmm, what could that have been? Pondering his words, there were a few things that could have triggered that possibly, but all would be educated guesses that were quite dangerous things to assume. And it could simply be average stress too, but she'd lit up when they'd left camp, that dip in her attitude, even if slight, was odd.

"I think the spring air does us all some good, especially the elders. Greenleaf often helps us forget our troubles, though a open ear can help too, I've found," He probed gently. He wouldn't press for details, but he would happily lend an ear to her troubles, and damn if his earnest and open expression with that offer didn't tempt most cats.

SilverStar purred in reply. No, every cat needed to stretch their legs every now and then.

She watched quite amused as the tom swatted the butterfly, "Ah... sometimes its good to be leader." Her eyes glittered mischievously again. She flicked her tail good-naturedly. It warmed her heart slightly that he didnt want to kill it. She was happy some of her clan wasnt blood thirsty and power hungry.

She watched the tom watch her and flicked one ear in mild discomfort. She fluffed up a bit and shook herself. "Come on, Lets get back to patrolling, you know the whole border patrol thing." She trotted up a little bit. She nodded as he spoke. "Yes... the elders definitely need the good weather... Poor BrittleBone was about in agony with the rain..." She waved her tail lightly. She looked deep in his eyes and she blinked before turning. "Yes... sometimes... " She was tempted... but she needed to find her sister first.

Froreember

It would seem with the butterfly's departure, so did the lighthearted mood, though it was more Froreember's fault than the butterfly's.

The abrupt decision to get back to work was suspiciously diversionary, though Silverstar did still respond to him. She seemed uncomfortable. While not his intention, the reaction was telling.

Froreember shook himself off, trying to rid himself of the pine needles starting to stick to his fur before dutifully following his leader.

"You're right though, we should probably get on with this before sunhigh," he comments, in an effort to put Silverstar into a better mood. Best to let it go for now. Perhaps she'd feel like talking another time. He'd keep an eye on her so he could be sure she had someone to go to at least. The deputy would normally be a leader's choice in confident, but her reaction to the mention of Bloodrunner said she was as likely to go to him with her problems as ThunderClan was to purge its clan of non-forest born cats by drowning them in the moonpool. Which is not very.

They simply needed another butterfly. With an ear flick Silverstar was thinking about her sister. The she cat was small and dainty if she could remember right. She hadnt seen her sister since they were kits next to their mother.

She was uncomfortable, the male was too perceptive for her liking. Not that it was a bad trait... just a pain when it was being used against oneself. It didnt go over her head that it was a deputy trait.

She walked in silence for a bit and when they reached the lake she sat and just breathed in the cool air coming off the lake. She twitched her ears. She had Warriors under her control... She could send some out to find her sister, if she could get something out of BloodRunner on where she should start looking, or maybe just maybe, starclan could guide her. She twitched her tail in thought. "Froreember... I need you to do me a favor...." She wasnt looking at him. She had lead her clan for many many moons... And never had she thought she may find her sister again. "I want to travel to MoonPool to share tongues with StarClan... will you come with me? It means going through Thunderclan."

Froreember

If the hesitation to answer earlier had been telling, then the dead silence between them was a clear sign from StarClan. Well, it wouldn't be the first time he's botched a situation with a bit too much honesty and forwardness, though he thought he did decently. It's not like he outright said 'what did Bloodrunner do to make you not trust him?'

While the mood had definitely shifted from when they first exited camp, it still wasn't businesslike. When Silverstar settled down to star out across the lake, Froreember didn't questions it. He trotted off briefly to allow Silverstar a moment to gather her thoughts while he marked the nearby border. He remained a respectful distance away when he returned and settled down.

Froreember's ears pricked and his head tilted when she finally spoke up.

Her request was not at all what he expected. If she'd actually been observing the tom, she'd have seen him light up like a kit receiving their mentor. The calm demeanor was shed like water from a RiverClanner's coat. He'd only gotten to go to the moonpool the once, and the experience had made him wish he was the kinda of cat that could have been content being a medicine cat so that he might share tongues with his ancestors again. He knew that Silverstar's offer was not for him to speak with StarClan, but he had been certain that the view of Silverpelt had been far more awe inspiring from the moonpool's open air than it was from the pine canopy he lived under.

Of course, this was no leisure trip. It wouldn't do for him to be bouncing around, but he couldn't quite stop the twitching in his tail that had started up.

The mention of going through ThunderClan territory certainly gave him pause though. To trespass on another Clan's territory was to disrespect that Clan and its warriors, it was to disrespect all of them and the warrior's oath they all take. But this isn't trespassing is it, this is a leader taking a pilgrimage to the moonpool for guidance, something that all the Clans allow as necessary.

"I would be more than willing to accompany you there, Silverstar. As long as we go by the edges of the lake, ThunderClan isn't likely to give us much trouble," he pointed out. "When would you want to go?"

While his excitement had been tempered down by the seriousness of the situation and request, there was still a tilt of eagerness to his final query.

It was a safe, in honest FroreEmber should take it a complement. She hadnt really been unwatched for a moon. BloodRunner was always eyeing her and had one of his loyal band near by. She had to get the information from Bloodrunner, then she would run him out of the clan so fast, no one would know what happened. In the silence her fur bristled on the back of her neck. She was not some push over, her paws were just tied.

Her ears tracked him as he trotted off, she wasnt made leader for her good looks, she was made leader because she was strong and loyal and was able to keep tract of multiple things.

She finally turned her head to look at him and her whiskers twitched in amusement and her eyes glittered, happy to see the tom excited, even if he tried to hide it.

She nodded slowly and then shrugged. "Im sure they wont, but then again... If they arent as well as they are giving off, then we may run into a patrol. Should we bring someone else?" She fretted a moment and then answered her own question. "No, I think not... "

She glanced once more out over the lake, Bloodrunner was incharge of the clan right now, so they were being watched just fine. She glanced towad Thunderclan

"Now."

Froreember

"Now? But it's only just dawn. Are we going to wait at the moonpool until nightfall?" Fofreember questioned. He was already standing and ready to follow Silverstar, but his mind was working along quickly to puzzle out the situation.

Could you even share tongues with StarClan at sunhigh? He was pretty sure the answer was no, but he didn't claim to be an expert. Silverstar would know better than him, but he was pretty sure Silverpelt had to be visible for their ancestors to speak with them.

The clan had been doing well off, or at least, Froreember would have said so before this patrol. Silverstar's behavior spoke of some kind of problem, one kept quiet, whether because it was a personal one or one that could cause panic if spread. It was tied to Bloodrunner, as it was the mention of him that had brought on her more serious demeanor. Whatever the problem was, it was severe enough that Silverstar was seeking StarClan's guidance. This evidence was a bit concerning.

"Will it not be suspicious for us both to be missing for the whole day and night?" He couldn't help but query, the question coming out quite loaded. The situation will certainly warrant notice. A leader and a warrior gone missing. Their scents will lead straight to and beyond the ThunderClan border, once the call to search goes up. If Silverstar is trying to be discrete, as her reluctance to share on the situation spoke, this was not the greatest way to go about it in his eyes. But then again, as he mulled over the situation, he could see a way to keep this trip secret, and that was to let the rumor mill fly. A she-cat and a tom, missing together for such a length of time? Cats are sure to draw whatever conclusions they find to be the most interesting. And surely that would put her under more scrutiny. But if this trip provided fruitful, surely it would be worth it?

What made this so urgent and why would they need to leave this early in the day?

Ahh, this whole thing seemed to quickly be turning into a mess. What had he dipped his paws into?

Well, either way, he couldn't deny he was quite taken with the idea of watching the moon rise at the banks of the moonpool.

"If you're sure though, I'll follow."

my long winded nonsense is good for something at least :U

She flicked her ear in annoyance. He was right. But if she went back to camp she would need to tell bloodrunner where she was going. And that gave him time to come up with a reason for her not to go. In honesty, she feared for the cats in her clan. They had lost an apprentice not long ago, it had been bloodrunners apprentice. She wasnt so sure it was an accident that dragged the small cat into the mud.

The answer was no. She would have to wait until Moonhigh as always, but at least she would be there.

The clan was well off, Shadowclan was thriving, they had kits in the nursery, apprentices in training and warriors who were loyal and brave, with sharp claws and sharp wit. The only problem was with her. It wasnt really a clan wide problem, not until BloodRunner started failing at being a deputy. Which he was actually fairly good at the job, he just forgot to set up patrols now and then. But he could lead cats. He had a charisma about him that lead cats to him. So even though he had blackmailed her, no one was surprised at the deputy choice. Sure he was a little young, but that mattered not.

She sighed and glared at the early morning sun. "I guess it would be..." She really didnt care about the gossip that would follow. Afterall, she was leader, it lead to a privilege of doing pretty much what she wanted.

And nothing, aside from her fear that bloodrunner would try to stop her. She nodded. "You are right FroreEmber, Lets head back, Riverclan border is clear." She stretched and turned. They would head out as the sun was setting.

*** Time Skip***

WindRacer was dead. The tom had been attacked by the kittypets that lived in the twoleg nest. They always tried to give the kittypets room. But sometimes they ran into them. These werent ordinary kittypets. Their claws were sharp and they were strong. They also tended to have a bad attitude. So when bloodrunner dragged the cats body back into camp SilverStar stared helplessly. BloodRunner and one of his minions were the only other cats with WindRacer on their patrol.

She went through the ceremony as cold as a day in leafbare. She looked to bloodrunner. He only had a few minor scratches, the other tom that had went was in a similar state, but windracer, a senior warrior looking forward toward long golden years as an elder soon, was now with starclan. She pressed her nose to the body and whispered. "Im sorry old friend, may starclan greet you warmly."

It was as she feared. It had to be. BloodRunner had to of killed this cat, but none of the others would ever think treason. She hesitated and glanced to FroreEmber. She didnt know if she should still go. Would her clan think her uncaring? She should have left that morning. She looked up to the sky and stared to silverpelt. She needed answers. Was her long lost sister really worth the destruction of her clan? Was her sisters life more important than anyone of her clanmates? She frowned. No. Her clan was more important. She would try this last... and if it lead to nothing, she would run the tom cat out regardless.

She stood up and signalled for WindRacer's mate and close family, his apprentice all the important cats to join him in his last night and then she looked to FroreEmber. "Im still going." The sun had already set, so they would have to run to make it there by MoonHigh. She couldnt let BloodRunner stop her, for the sake of the clan.
