Having downed half the drink she'd gotten from the corner coffee store (some kind of strawberry something or other- lots of caffeine was the important part) she was already on her way to Jeremiah's office with a set of files so thick the tip of the stack touched the crest of her nose. Three of the files he'd requested and the others were things he either needed to fill out or sign based on the recent events.
Officers brandishing guns (even if not using them), some dead bodies, many injured- all of it led to a lot of paperwork.
Seeing as she didn't have a free hand, she instead used the tip of her foot to knock on the door. "Um ... sir," she said weakly. Already a little out of breath from having to carry the files upstairs.

Jeremiah's office was, as usual, neat and orderly. The door would normally be kept open but this day no. This was a day wherein the Detective Lieutenant was getting work done. Which usually involved a lot of computer typing and file checking and a healthy amount of tea. His neck ached. It was probably time for a new chair (or adjust the monitor or take something or, you know, less stress). At the foot tap, and familiar voice, Jeremiah was pushing himself up from his desk and heading to get the door. A hand was held out expectantly. Not for the files but just in case they were going to topple because he knew just how much was coming his way. "Thank you for your prompt response, Miss Liu." The door was pushed the rest of the way open for her to come in and set them on his desk. "I've got some to give you to take back as well." Besides the ones she probably had for him to sign immediately.

"I've told you to call me June," she told him as the files did in fact sag forward a little. Good thing the hand was there to right her. She moved past him and set them on his desk with a little "whew."
While adjusting her clothes and giving herself a pat down she winded up to say what Jeremiah had already suspected. "Oh good. I brought those files but there's also some media release forms we need signed. So."

"June," he amended, "I'll endeavor to remember." Except that Jeremiah was, if anything, proper and a gentleman at work. For the most part. He stepped out of her way once he was sure the stack was not going to fall and let her move forward. "Let me get a pen out of my desk and I can sign them for you." Moving around his office, he went to his desk only to have to go through three drawers before he found one pen. Someone had to be pilfering his pens. It was getting old.

June sighed. It had been two years (ish) of endeavoring to remember. At this point June kind of thought he was teasing her.
"Sir do you ... need some pens?" She reached into her bag and procured a fistful just from one pull.

One day it would settle into his brain, one day. Jeremiah looked up from his desk and simply sighed. "I already put in a request for more. I can't prove it but it looks as if someone is pilfering my pens." He took a pen from June and was reading over the releases before his signature was added at the bottom. A lot of paper shuffling.

"Wel it's not me," she said, scrunching up her nose. "I have waaaaay too many." In different colors and widths. June was prepared. She let him sign, ocassionally flipping the page when needed. "How is the work going along?" She could tell that the door closed meant business and that meant he was supposed to be doing work.

"As well as can be expected considering." With one last signature applied, the papers were read and shuffled through one more time before Jeremiah was offering them back to June. For all that he loathed paperwork, not wanting anything to do with it, he was quick and efficient at it when the need came up. "However, now that you're here ..." June was receiving one of those serious work stares. The kind that would likely lead to her having to find things. "I've got something I need to know if there's any files or records about."

While he sifted through, June carefully flipped to pages that required his signature and pointed at the aforementioned spot. She could practically do it blindfolded at this point.
"Oh? I mean, of course sir." She even gave a tiny salute. Mostly as a joke, but with a little bit of seriousness to it.

"I will make sure to call you June if you do not salute me when it's not necessary," Jeremiah gave her a look. "As for what I want ... I want you to look into the old department records for particular case. Specifically prior to 1920s."

June let out a little giggle. "Oh ... sorry it was a bad joke."
The case had her raising an eyebrow. "You're going to need to be more specific sir. There are a lot of files." She was tapping her chin with a pen, already having had pulled her planner out. She was now devising how she could parse through the entirety of their archives prior to 1920 (if neccessary).

"Not necessarily a bad joke, just-" Jeremiah just let it go. Even after all of these years unnecessary saluting still did not sit well with him. "Missing persons cases where they later turned up dead." Which was rather specific. His posture shifted, shoulders rolling. Jeremiah's office was warmer than most of the building. There was more but he was going to let her get it written down first.

What she assumed was going to be something like graffiti cases or civil unrest cases ended up being a much darker request.
"Oh," was all she could say at first, adjusting her glasses and feeling a little winded by the request. "Wow. Heavy stuff." She had a suspicion she knew what it was about though- not terribly difficult to piece together. "Is this about those missing kids ...?"

"Not exactly, no. A bit of personal interest, perhaps, but also because it seems disappearances aren't so uncommon in the history of the town either and it may offer clues in light of finding Miss Winter's-" His lips pressed to a thin line. There was no need to continue on that Heliodora's foot had been found. The case was back at the forefront, at least until Blackfriars had happened. "If there's anything in the past, I'd like to know about it." He paused because this was the odd part but ... "Also, this may seem strange, but apparently there was another Jeremiah that lived in this town years ago, so if you see anything like that pop up, bring it as well. They were one of the disappearances that happened in the town's past. If you can find any files about it, pictures, I'd like to see them as well." Jeremiah's fingers tapped against his desk where he leaned against it. "In fact," he said slowly, "I wouldn't actually mind helping. I've not been into the basement archives in a while since they moved everything around and started to go digital." It was still a process with the older records, the newer ones already handled. He looked over to her. "I'm sure you've got it down and it's about time I relearned it."

Disappearances? Missing feet? This kind of thing was historically common?
June frowned a little. That was kind of unsettling. She wasn't sure she was going to continue working in a place where that kind of thing was commonplace. Maybe she needed to look for new employment ...
... But for now she needed to do the job present. "Oh. Of course sir!" She thought the digital stuff was pretty easy, just frustrating if the internet went down or the system acted buggy.
