Disclaimer: 'Mutant' is used. The setting is before the PC word was created so no one knows better ICly. Also, Anastara is not a happy camper.

User ImageHe'd gotten adopted!!! Thayne was ecstatic about heading home with the nice lady that adopted him. He was hopping from place to place like a baby kidden, literally bouncing off trees. He wanted to see everything and all at once. Not that the orphanage had kept him in a cellar or anything; they'd had a yard to play in so he could see buildings over the fence and all. But he'd never been anywhere else but there, really. He was even 'home' schooled because his kind especially were kept inside. This part of town was new! And all of the houses were big and every few blocks there was a park, and maybe that was his new house, or that one, or that humongous one there! Oh, wait. It said 'Public Indoor Pool' on the front. Proooooobably wasn't that one.

Which one was it going to be? Behind one of these doors was Thayne's new home. And Ms. Madla said he would have a sister to play with. Hopefully she liked him. That thought whittled away at his happiness a little bit. What if she didn't like him cause he was a mutant? What if she bullied him like the kids at the orphanage? Thayne turned worried eyes on Madla and headed over to her.

User ImageMadla had long given up on trying to get Thayne to hold her hand while they walked home; he was just too excited. She insisted when they were crossing a street, but otherwise let the little ball of energy do his thing. The keyboardist smiled as they got closer to the house; looking forward to finally having the little Bapho in her home. It was a long process, meeting him, getting approved, and taking him home. Her money and status helped, she couldn't deny it, but it was still long...hopefully long enough to have helped Ana get used to the idea.

Anastara was going to love her new brother. Well...Anastara was going to love him once she got used to her new brother. Madla puffed air and shook her head; it was going to be a rocky start, but it will be wonderful for Anastara to have someone to play with, someone to keep up with her when she's out playing her sports. Madla chuckled to herself, it must be the Grimm in her little girl because Madla certainly wasn't sporty. They were only a couple doors down when a tug on her arm got her attention and the geist looked down at Thayne. "Yes, Sweetie?"

"Ms. Madla? What if your daughter doesn't like me?" Thayne asked, eyebrows scrunching worriedly, "Will I have to go back?"

His tone was absolutely heartbreaking. Madla scooped the little Bapho up and cuddled him. "First, Thayne, you don't have to call me 'Ms. Madla', you can call me 'Mama' or 'Mom' if you like. Second, you aren't ever going back there. You and Anastara and I are going to be a family." She looked into his starry eyes and shook her head a little. "Now, that doesn't mean it's going to be easy. All of us are going to have to adjust to our new life, and we might have some bumps in the road, but we're family and we don't abandon family."

Madla gave Thayne a kiss and set him down. "This is your new home. There's plenty of room and you can pick one out if you don't like the one I chose for you. We have a big yard and a pool in the back, so you'll have to learn to swim. But first, lets go meet Ana, I'm sure she's waiting for us." Madla opened the door, ushering Thayne in and looking around for her daughter. "Ana?"

User ImageAnastara watched from the balcony of the second floor, peeping between the railing at the front door. Her mother had gone to the orphanage the day after Haunted Hallows night and had talked to some boy there. Apparently she was going to have a new brother. Mama had tried to be super upbeat about the whole thing, but Ana knew all this was was things changing. She wasn't going to be the only one any more...when would Mama have time to play with her? Ana already had to share with Mama's band mates.

The ghost pup clutched her knees to her chin and stole a glance at the door again. They were going to be home soon. Ana didn't want to think about it, didn't want to think bad thoughts about her mom not wanting her. And what if the boy was mean? Ana met him once, and he was a mutant, but he didn't seem bad. At least, not while supervised; what if he was mean when no one was watching? Anastara was well on her way to working herself up into a panic when the snick of the door caught brought her attention back to the present. They were here.

Mads caught sight of one golden eye peeping through the second floor railing and sighed; Madla could easily read the look in her daughter's eye and Anastara was not going to make this easy. Well, road bump number one had to happen at some point and the orphanage had given her a couple of guidelines for introductions. "Anastara, come on down here and greet your new brother." She patted the Bapho on his head.

Ana didn't move at first and Madla wondered if it was going to be a fight, but the geist pup started coming reluctantly down the stairs. When Ana stopped on the bottom stair, Mads watched the two kids just stare at each other; one hopeful, one resentful. Madla got down on her knees to be at the same height as the two kids. "Thayne, this is my daughter, Anastara. Ana, this is your brother, Thayne. Now, you two, I'm going to head to the music room and let you get to know each other. Maybe you can show Thayne around, Ana, his bedroom, the backyard, whatever you'd like." Madla went to Ana and gave her a hug and a kiss before putting her next to Thayne. "Have fun, you two."

Madla headed out of the room and stopped just out of sight. Apparently alone time was crucial when introducing new siblings. It allowed for a foundation to develop between them through play, and was instrumental in developing sibling bonds. Not that she was going to be too far...Ana was a sweetheart, but this was a big change for her. And alone time didn't have to mean unsupervised time.

They eyeballed each other for a minute or two before Thayne put on a smile and moved forward, stopping when the girl rocked back with a frown. Well, so much for his super warm welcome. The Baphomet didn't know what to say and the silence stretched. He had to say something, the silence was making him overly nervous; words just started flowing. “Hi!” he said so loudly that Anastara startled, her tendrils flaring. tThayne lowered his voice and tried again. “We met once, remember? At the place. I'm so glad not to be there anymore. I didn't like it. But this is a nice place, right? I think it's great. And I think your mom is great, do you think your mom is great, I think she's great. Wait, I said that.... I...uh....”

He petered out, Ana was looking at him as if he were crazy. Fantastic, not the best first impression, or second impression? Thayne's ears and tail drooped; he was going to be sent back, he knew it. Madla said he wouldn't, but others had been sent back before and why would he be any different? He was going to go back to being bullied for being a mutant.

“Uh...yeah. Mom's great...real great.” Ana flicked an ear and looked around the room at a loss. There had been so many words thrown at her all at once. “And the house. It's better than the orphanage.” Anastara scratched at one of her ears and shrugged. “Honestly, though, I think anything's better than that place. It can't be all that awesome to live in a place with no parents.” This was the lamest conversation either. The Bapho was too loud, and weird, and what are they going to talk about anyway. Why did Mom even leave them alone. Why did she even adopt this kid in the first place?

“Why did Mom even adopt you, anyway?” She asked, angrier than she meant it. What was so special about him? So he had some big ears and some freaky eyes. If Mom was doing this to teach her a lesson, shouldn't he have more weird mutations? And if not, then why not get a normal kid? At least then she might have something in common with them. What did she have in common with some dumb Bapho-mutant with no parents.

Thayne shrank from the anger, remembering pain and insults going along with that vicious tone. But none of that came this time, just and angry glare and wildly flailing tendrils. “I-uh...was being bullied. She came over and got them to stop. The voice she used, I'd never heard anything like it. You should have seen the looks on all of their faces.” Not just the kid who was actively bullying him, but the onlookers that didn't do anything more than laugh, and even his own face. He was just as stunned and impressed by her tone as everyone else had been.

“I know I look weird with my pupils. Even my ears aren't quite right. They're too long for Baphomets, but they don't fit in with any of the other races either. Like, you're Geist and Grimm...I'm just...not right.” Thayne sniffled. “No one ever likes me. They call me names and they break my stuff and they hate my, my drawings and...and...” tears fell, he couldn't stop them. All he wanted was to be normal and have a family, but all he got was insults.

Nope. She wasn't going to let the poor kid's first day here be full of him crying and Ana being a brat. While it was apparently 'totally normal' for introductions to go this way, Madla wasn't about to stand for it. She'd separate them for a bit, spend some personal time with each of them, and try again when emotions cooled. What had she been thinking leaving them alone right off the bat? Mads pushed off the wall but stopped when she heard her daughter's voice, then dropped her face into her palm when she heard the words. Tactful, Ana was not. But it seemed like she was making an effort, so Madla waited a little longer.

Anastara wrinkled her nose. Great, just what she needed. She had no illusions about her mother being out of earshot and now she was going to swoop in and Ana would be in trouble. “Stop blubbering. No one likes a crybaby." The crying got quieter, but the sobs racked him harder and he started to curl in on himself. "Stop! I'm sorry, okay? I didn't mean it like that. And obviously someone likes you, you got adopted, remember?" They weren't the kindest of words said in the kindest of tones, but at least the mutant was down to loud sniffles and a distrustful look. Well, at least her worries of him being mean were unfounded.

"Ugh." Ana paced, her tail and ears twitching with irritation. "Look, no one is going to do that here, okay? My Mom will throw them out of the house so fast, they'd think they'd learned to teleport." Herself included, only she'd get grounded and lectured. "Look, let's make a deal: You don't butt into my time with my Mom, and I wont call you names or break your stuff. On purpose. Deal?"
PostPosted: Tue Oct 11, 2016 2:21 pm

A deal? The deal didn't sound too bad. So long as she didn't claim all the time with his new mom. And did that deal include them playing together too? He sniffled again and rubbed his sleeve across his nose as he thought it over. “I'll agree so long as I get Mom time too, you can't just hog her all to yourself. That's not fair.” He said, trying to sound tough and only sounding watery. Hone stly he didn't expect her answer to be anything other than 'life's not fair'; an answer he'd gotten before. But, then, he kept comparing her to his bullies...and she wasn't quite acting that way. Thayne guessed he couldn't truly resent her attitude. He was the one invading her house and family, it wasn't like she was going out of her way to be mean like the other kids.

That thought gave him hope and the toughness melted away entirely with his next question;“Will you play with me too?” That's what he wanted, what he really, truly wanted. A real family with a real mom and a real sister and maybe a pet or two and maybe even some friends. Thayne wanted to belong.
