For those who want to play with others but aren't sure of their time commitment, the SURVIVAL route is a slower-paced half of the game. In this route, you'll be trying to keep your peers alive while convincing the government forces outside to let you come out, or at least to let you send out the wounded.

The mechanics are explained below.
PostPosted: Thu May 19, 2016 6:52 pm

survival route rules
Slow route players may not leave the first floor of Blackfriars. There's simply too much to do to go upstairs! However, you may switch your route once and join the fast route if you find that the slow route goes too slow for your liking.

Slow route players must post once a day. There will be a GM post to move time forward once every 24 hours; posts will go up at 0000 PST every night. If you miss a round of GM posts, your character's absence will be glossed over or they will be moved off to the sidelines.

If you want to use a power, please quote shibrogane to let him know! Overusing your powers will result in consequences for your character up to and including passing the ******** out.

Post your decisions at the bottom of your post in bold type.

objective: minimize casualties
The first floor of Blackfriars is the home to all of those injured by the rogue werecreature. It is the responsibility of those able-bodied on the first floor to keep the injured alive. To keep track of this triage situation, players on the survival route will be rolling against the inexorable hands OF DEATH, AKA me. Think of this as a tower defense: if the HP count of the first floor goes below a certain point, you will start losing people and it will seriously affect your ability to negotiate with the police on the outside of the building.

To begin with, you'll have a collective HP of 1000 points. These points represent the overall chances of the severely injured: should you lose enough hit points, people will begin to die. Once the hit point pool gets below 300, people will start to die. You must prevent this!

NPC people, of course. But still people.

Every 0000 GM post I make will have a 1d100 roll attached to it. This is the amount of "damage" points done by time, attrition, and any new casualties sent down from the fast route. Once per round, you will roll 1d20 to determine how many points you add back to the point pool!

Each character only gets ONE ACTION per round. If you roll to minimize casualties, then you cannot attempt escape the library or to join the fast route upstairs!
PostPosted: Thu May 19, 2016 6:53 pm

objective: escape the library
All the 911 calls worked: the police are here! Ashdown's finest are side-by-side with the Massachusetts State Troopers... and the CDC. They're setting up a mobile command center, and treating the library as a quarantine situation. (So many calls relating stories of a man growing claws and fur? Something's gotta be wrong.) To add insult to literal injury, the first responders can't enter the building until it's secure. Until the rogue were is caught or killed, they won't come in. It's your job to find a way out of the library through the cordon or convince the police to let you out.

In this endeavor, you have three major tools:

    THE BULLHORN, which permits the player holding it to ask one question of the men and women outside;

    THE RADIO, which permits the player holding it to communicate with the team upstairs;

and THE MAP, an architectural blueprint of the original construction of the library. Its depicted exits have changed some since the building went up in the early 1900s, but some of them might still be good. There were extensive modifications to the building in the 1950s and 60s.

You may use one tool per round, and this counts as your action: the BULLHORN and the RADIO may only be used once per round, however, and in the event of conflict the conflicting parties will roll a 1d6 and whoever gets the highest number will have custody of the item in question.

Should you wish to search an area, please refer to the area on the map which you are investigating and list what you're looking for.

Each character only gets ONE ACTION per round. If you try to escape the library, then you cannot roll to minimize casualties or to join the fast route upstairs!

victory conditions
To successfully end this piece of the metaplot, you must complete these following objectives:

KEEP THE POINT POOL OVER ZERO. Should the point pool drop below zero, you automatically fail and move the game closer to the BAD END.

ESCAPE THE LIBRARY or CONVINCE THE POLICE TO LET YOU OUT. If the rogue were is captured before a way out of Blackfriars is found, you move closer to the BAD END.

Unlocking the BAD END requires three or more of the four total objectives (including the objectives on the CAPTURE track) are failed. Unlocking the NEUTRAL END requires two or fewer objectives to fail. The GOOD END happens only if all four objectives are successfully completed.

A window shatters loudly and messily at the front of the library. It's a BULLHORN wrapped in a shock blanket. From outside, you hear the police:

"Are you all right in there? What's your situation?"

Your situation is this: there are people dying. More than just the redheaded florist, there are people trapped under shelves, trampled by the panicked rush to escape, bleeding from untreated wounds. You have limited supplies and limited personnel, most of whom are not trained, and one dead body so far. Someone has unearthed a map of the building from its original construction, and Finn Derouen has a radio connecting him to the upper level.

You can't just stay here.

727/1000
CONDITIONS ARE FAIRLY STABLE BUT DECLINING QUICKLY

THE TIME IS 1730

FINN DEROUEN (SILVERAH) HAS THE RADIO

HOW SHALL YOU PROCEED?

Your next GM post will arrive on Saturday, May 21, at 0000hrs PST!

P.S. I rolled three dice b/c it's round 1 and I thought it added more drama. :*

Finn, radio firmly in hand, was determined not to leave Aleksy's side. He was convinced that, should he get up and leave his boyfriend alone to go try to do anything, something terrible would happen back at the ranch, like all of Aleksy's stitches simultaneously rupturing and him bleeding to death. So it was better to just stay here and preempt any kind of disaster.

So he was going to have to ******** delegate.

"Um," he called, raising his voice as he passed his hand over Aleksy's lank hair once more. "Does someone want to get that and like, answer them? Tell them we've got, like, casualties and s**t and need them to send in paramedics?"

The shattering glass makes Nasir jump as Temperance is bandaging him up. He watched as it slid across the floor a ways and came near their feet.

Police on some kind of loudspeaker had not.

When he heard someone call out that they should answer, Nasir was going for the blanket and then unwrapping what was in there. It was a bullhorn and he glanced to Wil before he was using it to answer what they had been asked.

"There are several badly people injured and trapped! We need paramedics in here!" Nasir was back to leaning slightly on Wil because he still felt a little loopy.

Oh no. Oh Hell no. Kitty looked all around her, and found more horror than just a bled out woman. It was carnage. It made her gut twist. It made her want to cry. She held her arms around herself, one hand still clutching her parasol tightly. She liked the odd horror game on weekends, but video games and real life were never supposed to intertwine.

She shrieked as something was thrown through the window. Upon hearing the call from outside, her usual attitude resurfaced.

"How dare they toss something through the window! That could have hit me! Barbarians, the lot of them!" She couldn't stay here. People were bleeding, and broken, and whining for help. God help them if they tried to touch her dress with those nasty hands.

She stomped towards the one who'd taken the device up, smacking him on the arm to grab his attention. "Tell those pathetic excuses for authority to hurry it up! There are some of us in here that have a curfew to uphold." The man's tiredness and injuries were unimportant. She was in no mood to endure another moment in this Hell. It was smelly!

It was like a sheet being yanked away from over her head, and Eve found herself sitting the same way she was a second ago, back in the "real" world, and also no longer a fox. She had claws and teeth, and a fluffy white-tipped black tail, and slitted gold eyes and long pointy ears, but otherwise she was fully human, crouched down with fingers splayed against the cool tile. Could she still stand? Pushing against the floor, she tried -- and did, albeit with shaky balance and a need to brace against the wall behind her.

Danger, the people here were in danger. She scanned her surroundings, noted the sharp smell of blood, and then was filled with a rush of emotion as she made eye contact with a familiar face.

"Eve? Oh, God. Eve!!"

Relieved and tearful, the chaos around Leila stopped for a precious moment as she ran to her wife not a split second after seeing her. The changes in appearance were barely even noticed in favor of recognizing her wife was okay. She was lucid. She wasn't going to attack anybody or be hunted down for it. And Leila was sobbing with relief into Eve's neck as the clawed fingers smoothed her hair and the familiar voice whispered sweet, calming assurances over her. She was here to help make things safe.

"Lover," Eve murmured as they parted to make precious eye contact again. "I think the others are upstairs. I don't want them to be hurt either."

Leila nodded shakily at her partner, and quickly grabbed the RADIO out of Finn's hands without even a word of courtesy. Wow, rude. "Can anyone up there hear me? This is Leila Townhome. There's three weres heading your way who are there to help you. Do NOT attack them." Eve calmly gave some descriptions, which the other woman relayed: "If you want to work with them they should be smart enough to answer to Wolf, Fisher or Bunny." She didn't want to 'out' them, so to speak, without knowing whether they were okay with their names being given. "They are NOT berserk like the other one we saw. Again, DON'T HURT THEM."

"Hey-- um, okay--," said Finn, as Leila pried the radio out of his hand with not so much as a word to him. Please would have been nice - but it was too late for that now. Aleksy was mumbling semi-deliriously under his breath - Russian swears, judging from what Finn could pick out.

Getting the radio back seemed like a fools' errand, given that Leila seemed to be putting it to far better use than he would have. Finn's first concern remained - and would remain - getting his boyfriend out of here alive.

That, he decided, meant getting some fluids into Aleksy. Juice would be best. Something with a decent amount of sugar in it. He looked around, spotted a dented - but still sealed - can of pineapple juice that had been knocked off the bar. Finn grabbed it and hurried back to Aleksy, holding the opened can to his lips.

"Here," he said. "It's not vodka but it should help."

Screams, blood everywhere. Rylan burst out of the conference room on the second floor, ran up to the railings, looked down over the concourse and...

So many people hurt. He felt his heart leap into his throat. No, no, no. There were too many people in danger... He all but forgot that the wargs had come to meet for a reason. There was no time to wait. He barely managed to throw a glance over his shoulder and yell, "I have to go help them," before sprinting for the stairs.

He made a mad dash down to the first floor, and it was almost a miracle he didn't fall down them himself, taking them three steps at a time as he did.

"What happened?" he demanded, of anyone who was there, staring in horror at the carnage that lay throughout the hall. "How many are hurt? How badly? And you," he snapped at Alois, the blood rising in his chest at the man's apparent disinterest in aiding the injured. "Unless you find something really ******** useful in that closet, you better learn to English real fast and get your a** back over here to make yourself useful."

Thanks to the ladies' care, Dawson was able to sit up and eventually stand, hand pressed to the cloth offered to staunch the bleeding at his temple. He was still a bit lightheaded from being thrown off his feet, and he knew some places were going to be bruised later, but for right now:

"Wha...?" He looked to the group huddled around the bullhorn, then the woman with the radio, and then to the man who had come from downstairs with some befuddlement. "Some dude went ham n' got claws or some s**t but..."

Back to the woman with the radio. "Were?" Dawson looked incredulous. "Like a ga-damn werewolf?"

Wil's brow remained furrowed but thankfully he was not actively trying to fall asleep. There wouldn't be sleeping through this. He hovered by Nasir's side as he used the bullhorn but he felt rather useless.

"Hey.." Wil tugged on the princess looking girl's sleeve, "He's trying but I don't think you'll get in trouble for a police quarantine so.."

Wil's eyes caught sight of the old MAP, "Let's look for a way out."

He found a clear booth top and spread the old map overtop of it.
