WELCOME TO THE TOURNAMENT!
The tournament is taking place in the Castle in Negaspace, in a large room that has been designated towards the event. It is very spacious and there is a ring where the participants will fight, as well as seats around it for viewers. You are greeted by General Aurostibite and General Xenotime, both of whom are standing off to the sides to monitor.
The rules are simple: fight your opponent using whatever methods you have available to you - physical strength or magic - and whoever is left standing at the end is the winner! Aurostibite adds, in a tone of voice that doesn't quite indicate whether he's joking or not, to please try not to kill anyone.
OOC RULES:
- You have 72 hours to complete the battle! If you are unable to do so, or something happens that prevents things or slows you down, you can just roll the dice without adding in RP to determine the outcome. However, please do your best to RP out the battle, this option is only for those situations where it becomes necessary to do so.
- Dice rolling is mandatory! I know it can be frustrating but this keeps everything fair and even.
- Anyone is free to pop into a battle RP, they are open to spectators, whether you are participating in the tournament or not! Any Negaverse agent or Corrupt or Corrupt Cat is free to view the battles, regardless of whether or not they were in signups.
- If you have any questions, please contact either Beejoux or kuropeco privately through AIM or PM!
THE MECHANICS
Each person roll 1d20 in their first post! The person with the higher number is the first to attack!
Lieutenant / Basics - 20 HP / 1d8-2 attack (a 0 is a miss) Captain / Super - 30 HP / 1d10-2 attack (a 0 is a miss) General / Eternal - 40 HP / 1d12-2 attack (a 0 is a miss)
( how it works: roll the dice - if you get a 4, subtract 2 = your attack is 2! and so on and so forth. If you get a 6, subtract 2 = your attack is 4! )
Roll dice -> RP out attack -> wait for opponent to attack back -> roll dice again until someone's HP is depleted first!
The person with HP remaining after someone gets to 0 is the winner!

Quartz rolled his shoulders, stepping into the ring to face his first (or maybe his only) opponent. He'd already looped the trailing ends of his twin sashes through his belt a few times to keep them from being a hindrance: this, he supposed, made him look somewhat less elegant for the people watching them in the audience, but was a matter of bland practicality. He didn't care about looking elegant for the people in the audience. He cared about his opponent not being able to grab onto a long sash and yank him off his feet.
Every branch of the Negaverse (except perhaps the General Operatives, bunny slopes that he considered them to be) had its assets, its advantages -- even in combat. The Special Operatives may have been better studied in martial arts, more practiced, better combat-tempered by experience; but the Intelligence branch prided itself on working smarter, not harder. This was an attitude Quartz had been able to get behind.
He had read most of the Negaverse's files on the local officer rosters a few times over -- and made edits to more than a few of them. Cavansite was no exception. She was, as he recalled and could observe, close to his own age. She'd had some combat experience and accolades. Like Quartz, her weapon was a substantial polearm.
There wasn't much in her file beyond that that he could recall. That, then, was an opportunity, the exact one he'd signed up for this silly tournament for: to poke and prod at his fellow officers' strengths and weaknesses, to add information and make updates to their personnel files. He had little interest in winning the tournament; he was here to study others even moreso than he was himself.
Cavansite was the first officer he'd attempt to put through her paces. He'd see how she fared.
Quartz remained unarmed, standing in the arena. He dried his hands on the loose fabric of his shirt and maintained a limber resting stance while he waited.

There was simply no chance of the ballerina missing this particular match up. The one captain, the woman, Ceraskia had never seen before, and she was, honestly, superfluous to all of this. It was Quartz she was here to see. It was rare she got to actually see him in action, his skill set leading instead to tactics or surveillance. She would see him at the start of missions, and at the conclusion, but seldom in the thick of it. Now was her chance. She took a seat as inconspicuously as possible before the match had had a chance to officially start. She imagined he had an inkling she would be there, but that was no reason to attract his attention. He'd been courteous at her own spar, and she'd do no less for him now.

General Aurostibite (spectating)
Captain Quartz was one of the few in the admittedly small Intelligence division of the Negaverse, though Aurostibite did not know him personally. And Cavansite was not known at all, other than he had maybe passed her in the halls of the Castle once or twice - though he did not remember if he had.
But he was making it a priority to observe all the battles and glean what he could of the members of the Negaverse and their fighting abilities, as well as give people a chance to train and show what they could. Aurostibite stood a little off to the side, sweeping a stray strand of hair from his face before folding his arms across his chest to watch.

Lt. Serpierite (Spectator)
This time, it wasn't so easy to make a superfluous excuse. But a battle between Captains, Captain Quartz and Captain Cavansite, was a beneficial match to watch. Since her rank, and the few battles that she had watched consisted mostly of lieutenants, she was expecting more of a battle between captains. With their different weapons and skill sets, they would surely have more to contend with..
And perhaps, it would teach her about the fighting styles of others. It would be up to her if she could incorporate these newly learned styles as assets into her own methods.. In the worst case scenario, she would learn about her fellow comrades. It wasn't quite a lose-lose situation.
Though she knew neither fighters, she took a seat in the back. It wasn't strange for other comrades, even without knowing each other, to watch publicly staged matches after all.

SPECTATOR
Schörl stood erect in the space allotted to observation. Quartz wasn't often this directly involved physically with his fellows in arms, and it provided a good opportunity to watch. To look for small shifts in his breathing, his spine, his fingers, or any small signs of resistance to his acclimation that pointed to motivations undesirable.
It was equally an opportunity to monitor progress in his martial training, while ensuring that his alcoholism wasn't being allowed to impact his efficiency. If her people were embarrassments here, all over again in so short a time, steps would have to be taken.
Still, Barbary held a small, cooler package with an apéritif for refreshment between bouts should the man show well overall in training and breaking. Positive reinforcement at the right time had merits. And the adorable tremble of self loathing when he feels the rush of approval.
Ceraskia was present, which was pleasing. It showed a growth of togetherness in the spite of all the prickliness. The best works of man involved The Agony and the Ecstasy, with all the interpersonal fireworks providing entertaining backdrop. That, at least, can be counted a growing win.

Spectator
Moonstone found herself drawn to see the battle between Quartz and a young woman she only knew by sight; he was one of Schörl's underlings and held some interest...mostly because she'd heard that the General was working on training and repurposing lackadasical agents on a small scale (if it worked, no doubt Laurelite or Metallia would see fit to promote her to doing such things full time, or simply on a grander scale).
There were several others interested in viewing this battle, for whatever reasons. Aurostibite, who as far as she knew had been at all of the tournament starts...the pretty corrupted ballerina that was also one of Schörl's retinue, and a young-looking lieutenant with a very pretty face that she believed had also joined in the tournament as she herself had.
Moonstone found herself wanting to either step to Aurostibite - for did he not command the youma her own Wasgo seemed taken by? - or to Schörl, but she did neither, instead finding a space between the two, but a step or so back as she tried to be unobtrusive to the pair inside the ring.

Cavansite had been so excited for this. A chance to show off, and a chance to finally meet some of her fellow agents. There were just so many…and what. She knew three? Five? Whatever the number was, it was a very small one. She approached her partner for the tournament and grinned, the excitement evident on her face. “Well, it seems you and I have gathered quite a crowd, that’s pretty exhilarating, and I hope it makes this fight worthwhile of their attentions.”
Her lilac eyes scanned the crowd for a moment, and she felt the quickest sensation of nerves flutter in her stomach. She had known, of course that there would be people watching, but she hadn’t quite expected this many of them. Though…the more she thought about it, perhaps they weren’t here for her. Perhaps they were just here for him. Maybe he was the popular one…but that didn’t mean she couldn’t earn some respect as well.
She called her spear to her and stretched. “I’m ready when you are, Quartz. Ready when you are.”HP: 30

Quartz was in no hurry to draw first blood. Aggression was informative, and sometimes effective, but what could be scaled up couldn't necessarily be scaled down: if he went in pushing hard for a fast victory, he'd only get to test that approach. It would be more useful, for now, to test the waters here or there. Prod at Cavansite's defenses and see if there were any seams in her defenses that could be targeted. She'd already drawn her spear, but still, Quartz kept his at bay. Polearm for polearm, the fight might be a more balanced match -- but if he closed the distance between them instead, where her spear might be too long to properly maneuver, she'd have to rely more on her hand-to-hand techniques. There she'd have to compensate for their physical differences, which required observation and consideration of her opponent's skills as well as her own. Quartz's size and build favorited him in heft and strength -- less so in speed. But his former profession also enabled him to move with a surprising amount of grace and fluidity for someone his size. Smoothly, he closed the space between them and moved inside her attack range, ducking her polearm to throw a quick jab at her face. She had probably been trained to fight with her spear. How well had she been trained to fight without it? HP: 30 Damage: 1

Well. Close combat had not been what Cavnasite was expecting, though thanks to all of her lovely meetings with that one meddlesome cosmos knight, she had gotten pretty good at stepping away from hands coming too near her face, and managed to get by with only a slight graze to the cheek. Quartz was bigger than her, and for a moment she felt just a bit off balance from that, though that feeling did give her a pretty good idea of what to do.
Instead of moving farther away, Cavansite moved her spear down, putting it as close to the back of the captain’s legs as she could at the angel she was at, and reached out to shove his large chest. “Have a nice trip!”
There was no anger in her voice, just a small amount of pride at her quick thinking, and her terribly wonderful awful word play. HP: 29 Damage: 2

Cavansite, Quartz noted, had the presence of mind not to try to rely on her spear when she was too close to her opponent to use it. She was nearly successful at dodging the jab entirely -- but instead, taking the blow, she stepped into Quartz's close quarters and leveraged her spear in a way that made more sense for the situation: as an obstacle to trip him backwards over. He was used to sparring with Schörl, when he did, and she was thrice advantaged over him, atop everything else: she was somewhat stronger (by virtue of their rank differential), she was certainly smaller, and she was considerably faster than Quartz. He'd gotten used to her style of redirection, accustomed to having his momentum turned against him; Quartz allowed himself, here, to absorb the blow of the fall (somewhat unpleasant, but not a major injury), and keep moving. Cavansite's opponent was on the ground now -- an obvious advantage for her. He wondered how she'd capitalize, and how well she'd adjust to what he threw at her next: grabbing the handle of her spear that she'd used to trip him, and shoving it upwards as he hopped back to his feet again, aiming to clock her hard under the chin with it. This guy was surprising her at every turn. She hadn’t really expected that he’d end up on the ground, and as she gave him a gleeful grin of triumph, the butt of her spear came up and got her right in the chin, causing her to bite her lip hard in surprise, blood bubbling to the surface at once.
Well. Well! She really should start paying more attention to things and not getting overdramatic. Perhaps that was one of her biggest flaws when it came to fighting others. Cavansite liked being flashy and showy and…just all around cruel. But…sometimes that just led to distraction. That led to her…splitting her own lip with her own damn teeth.
Well. Maybe if she got distracted so easily by her own bravado…perhaps he would get distracted by her bravado too. Or just…by a distraction. The captain drew back the hand that was not still clutching the spear and aimed a punch right at the other’s stomach, all while flinging her spear back, aiming right for his pretty face.
You just don’t mess with a woman’s face.
She really hoped he wasn’t fooled by her diversion, though, she couldn’t blame him if he was. He seemed like he really had this whole fighting thing down pat. But, she was learning what she needed to work on, so perhaps that was a good thing.HP: 24 Damage: 7

It was an interesting thing, letting combatants enter the ring with deadly bladed weapons just for the sake of a competition. It the normal world -- the one that real people resided in, humans with decency and standards -- things like this, people fighting with live steel just for bragging rights, didn't happen anymore. It would've been lifetimes since anyone had stood on a viewing eric and cheered for blood and beheadings, severed limbs and severed arteries. But the Negaverse was not the real world. Here, even training games were allowed to be stupidly, ridiculously deadly. She came at his face with a spear. It was a two-fronted assault, which was interesting -- Cavansite was showing a certain amount of adaptability under pressure, which was worth noting for her file -- and it left him with few options at such close range, unless he wanted to expend one of his few teleports getting clear. He could take the punch to the gut, or the spear to the face. Quartz, who had more faith in his abdominal muscles being able to stand up to a fist than he did in his eyeballs being able to stand up to sharp metal, focused his defense on blocking the spear, a hand up to twist her wrist backward and try to force her to drop her weapon. The punch to his solar plexus hurt like a ********, but he'd live. HP: 21 Damage: 1

Cavansite was extremely pleased that her plan had worked, though hadn’t counted on her wrist being twisted in retaliation. Her wrist was one of her weak spots, after breaking it once when she was younger in a skating accident. She tried not to let a look of pain flash across her face as he twisted it, but she couldn’t help the grimace that passed.
The spear fell from her hand, clattering to the ground.
“Damn.” Her knee came up reflexively, aiming right for his crotch. It was a cheap shot, but she wanted her wrist back. Nobody touched her wrist without repercussions.HP: 23 Damage: 3

Corrupted Ceraskia - (Spectator)As the fight progressed it became increasingly difficult to tell the difference between ingenuity in the heat of combat, and down right dirty tactics. Granted, all was fair in true battle, was it not? What wouldn't the dainty corrupt do to ensure she made it back to her general? There list was not a long one. But was there a line? And had Cavansite crossed it when she brought her knee up sharply between Quartz's thighs? The corrupted glanced back at their general for some sort of confirmation or approval.
