They'll have to go through you first The last time they'd been in Other Ashdown, Jeremiah had said that the whole place had run on will. Or the magic had, at least. And Chris desperately, more than anything, wanted the ability to defend himself. To not weigh down the people he tended to meet up in this place. So he had asked for help, for lessons.
He sat on the curb of the library in Other Ashdown, fussing with his sleeves and just waiting. No sense to practice magic in a place where it didn't exist, or at least didn't exist easily.

Brevity's not my strong suitHow he got Jeremiah's number was a question for another time, another day. If pressed, Chris would say it was Autumn, and stop there. In any case, he was now staring forlornly at his phone before finally pressing send on his message.
Jeremiah Mercer can lavender grow here? nothing online is helping and i have none
A pause, and then -
Jeremiah Mercer or like, weird lavender. do you think weird lavender could grow here?

Get on up and walk on out Chris hadn't been to work for a few days, or in the town, or anywhere really. He had called in sick (much to his Department head's relief) and then had sat down, and started working. He had to be able to find a way to help Autumn, to help Zac, Algie, Jeremiah.
So he had turned to books and the internet and trying to find out helpful properties of plants. His phone was ignored, probably dead, as he carefully copied information into notebooks.

Jeremiah was absolutely about helping people with knowledge about magic in other ashdown. It was something he believed to be necessary to surviving the place as a whole. If they did not it would leave far too many of them without a way to attack back against the forces at work in the dreary place.
He was coming down the road, a familiar red and orange umbrella with ghosts (it was Heliodora's as he always brought it with him to other ashdown if he could help it) resting on his shoulder while he held onto the handle.
"Hullo Chris," he spoke as his fingers flicked in greeting. "You ready?"

brevity's not my strong suitJeremiah did not even blink twice at the random text. He already had an idea of who it was - especially with what they were asking. ... the eyebrow raise at the second text was ridiculous. Quote: text to: chris watts if you're asking what i think you're asking ... i don't know whatever properties it has may only be because it grew there.

get on up and walk on outJeremiah was beginning to question just what it was about some of the younger ones and holing themselves up without contact to the outside world. Last time that someone had dropped off the radar ... He shook his head. There was no point in assuming the worst, not yet. It was a still dressed for work (and still dressed for colder weather it looked like) that was knocking on Chris's door. Hellbine had decided to tag along, having found him along the way, and was lazing about on his shoulders.

"As ready as I'll ever be," He said, stretching as he got up from the curb. It was dreary as ever but he was dressed appropriately as could be, an old college sweatshirt, jeans, and a pair of boots.
He'd learned his lesson with the mud his first time around.
"Nice umbrella," Chris commented idly, the color bright compared to the dark landscape.

Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer the farm must smell nice. i'll add it to my list of plants.
That list was growing every day really. He hoped his mom wouldn't mind when she came to visit to find her garden had doubled in size. He frowned a little at the second reply.
Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer you think it's worth a try though? i might be interesting, anyways.

Get on up and walk on out
The knock took a bit to register in Chris' mind but it managed to pull him up from his work long enough to shuffle over to the door, staring at it for a second before pulling it open.
"Who issit?" He slurred out in Korean, blinking up at who was standing at his door. He rubbed his eyes for a second, trying to make sure it wasn't who he thought it was. "Why- er. Sir, why are you here? Something happen in the apartments?" That managed to be in english at least.

Jeremiah's attire for other ashdown was not that much different than his normal work attire. If anything, he wore one extra layer as well as fabric that was more resilient to wear and tear. "Good to hear." Chris was given just the slightest twitch of lips, a quick smile.
At the mention of the umbrella he was shifting, his posture changing so that it was held in front of him and he was leaning his weight on it. It was an odd picture considering how formal and serious he could be. "Heliodora left it for me to find the first time I was here and admittedly I'm a little fond of it now."

brevity's not my strong suitQuote: text to: chris watts they actually hold weddings out there. you can visit it and they'd probably be one of the best places to tell you how to grow lavender. Honestly the idea of trying to grow things from other ashdown in Ashdown proper was intriguing. If it would work that would be something else indeed. Quote: text to: chris watts it would be but you'd want to be careful. make sure whatever you try it with isn't dangerous you never know with things from there.

get on up and walk on out Korean was definitely not on the list of languages Jeremiah could speak or understand. At best he knew the word for snowflake and that was it. He took one look at Chris, at the fact he answered in Korean and it took a moment to switch to English. Jeremiah was staring at him - hard. "No, nothing at all. However, you've been silent for a few days and due to past experience I've learned that usually means I should be checking up on people. Especially when it is very clear they're overdoing it." Disapproving Jeremiah stare. Right at Chris. "When's the last time you got sleep?" Might want to let him in. PeanutButterpies random fun jer-bear fact: he has learned to say special snowflake in several languages so that he can call alg that with it never getting old >:3

Chris only managed to just stifle a giggle at the change - it looked so absurd and at odds with everything else. "I'm not surprised, that's... very much like her."
He shifted a little, and then asked "So how does magic exactly work? You said will but that's kind of vague."

Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer they hold weddings?? that sounds amazing the advice too. you just gave me weekend plans, thanks
He thought for a second, then added -
Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer did you and Alg get married there?
That brought a smile to his face and typed back out something rapidly, glad he had someone on his side somewhat.
Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer i don't know if it can be dangerous i mean well, to start with it's just like a cinnamon lavender but also plant's just can't hurt me.

If that stare was meant to guilt Chris - and it definitely was from what Chris could tell - it was working. Almost immediately he deflated, running a tired hand through his hair and trying to give Jer a smile. "No" ********, another switch to Korean. He shook his head. "It's.. okay. Maybe I have been overdoing it. Come in?"
He left the door opened and backed away a little to give the detective room, casting his gaze over his apartment. It was mostly clean, except for the pile of papers and water bottles surrounding the desk at his computer.
"Uh.. two days? Maybe three? It hasn't been three and a half though because that's when I start hallucinating. Unless you're a hallucination?"
azuredreams omfg that's the coolest fact ever. if chris finds out he's going to volunteer more phrases
