Things just hadn't been sitting right since he'd last seen Whisler. Newgrange's stomach was a bundle of nerves; he wasn't sleeping, wasn't eating. He was just waiting for something to go wrong. He had been staying with his parents, but wondered if even that was safe.
For them, at least.
He couldn’t let anything happen to them.
But that meant keeping his distance, and it just wasn't safe to stay a civilian—not when anyone out there could have been a Negaverse Agent. If he was powered up…at least he could sense them coming.
It might not do him any good if he couldn’t fight them off, but he'd have liked to know when they were coming.
No matter how little it actually did for him.
What did do him a bit of good was sensing a the tingle of another Order signature on his radar. They weren't too far—and that worked in his favor. It would be rude to ignore someone so close, right?
…He didn't really need an excuse. He needed someone else there, if not to make him feel safe than to at least take his mind off of things.
Newgrange approached the energy signature and when he saw a spot of color he recognized as a knight—and an Earth one, at that—his mood lifted. "Hello," he greeted when he was not too far away. He did not recognize her, which was enough to make him both excited and nervous. "Do you mind if I join you, or are you terrible preoccupied?"

Hy-Brasil had just recently upgraded to squire and was now well enough to be out exploring Destiny City again. Her last run in with a negaverse agent had left her with a nasty looking scar on her abdomen but if that was the worst she got off with from that encounter she would take it. Though, if she wasn't lying to herself, it did have a tendency to visually bother her from time to time. Ah well, when powered up it was completely hidden which she thanked her outfit for being a well covered one.
With a want to enjoy the warm spring night, Hy had opted to roam the city as she slowly made her way towards the park. Everything seemed relatively quiet. She'd only picked up signatures from other order members but they had all been too far away for her to bother hunting them down. There was one that had seemed relatively close, but by this point, Hy was just purely enjoying the pleasant evening and wasn't going to bother to meet up with whomever it was.
But then, she noted the signature getting closer and she paused in her route. I wonder who it is. She mused as she turned to await their arrival. She was surprised to note that he was of Earth and...The same level as herself.
She smiled as he approached and offered him a wave. "Hey!" She didn't recognize the squire from anywhere which meant another person to add to her list of Knights she knew. "No, I don't mind at all. I am not out to do anything in particular tonight. Just sort of enjoying the evening while I patrol. I'll probably end up in the park at some point if you don't mind going there? I am Hy-Brasil, by the way."

"I usually wind up there," Newgrange said, smile growing on his face. He crossed the distance between them, glad to have the awkwardness of just dropping in out of the way. When he was closer, he extended a hand. "It's nice to meet you, Hy-Brasil, I'm Newgrange. It's nice to see another Earth Knight, makes me feel a little less lonely."
It wasn't that they weren't out there, he knew that. Especially considering what had happened during the whole Negaverse thing. He'd seen plenty.
He just didn't know where they were hiding.
"Have you been doing this for long?" he asked, figuring they might as well get the whole run-through done. He had questions about being a Knight—things some people knew, things some didn't. How long you'd been doing it didn't matter, but curiosity of the subject was unavoidable.

“Perfect!” She smiled and took his hand as he extended it to her. “Newgrange.” She repeated the name to make sure it stuck in her memory. “It’s nice to meet you! I have to admit, I’ve not met many Earth Knight.” She paused as she thought about it. “Maybe one other? I can’t recall the name though off the top of my head. I am not all that good at remembering names if I don’t run into the person often enough.” She chuckled as she revealed her little secret. “Ah well, I try though. I swear! So I apologise if I forget your name at some point. I never forget a face though, so there is that.”
Besides Camelot, Hy-Brasil hadn’t formally met any other knights of Earth. She’d seen them, sure, but no one whom she had gotten to know personally.
“I wish I could say yes to that question, but no. Not terribly long. A few months...Half a year now?” Had it really been about a half a year since she started? Time certainly did fly. “How about you? Been a part of this crazy war for awhile?” Like Newgrange, Hy-Brasil was curious about the length of time people had been powering up. It was a curious thing to learn and something that no one, yet, seemed bothered to be asked.
“I feel like there’s always something new to learn out here. Something always manages to come up that surprises me or just makes me think harder about my life as a Knight.” She shrugged. “But, I suppose it’s better than being bored with life as it passes by. Gotta look on the bright side of things some days.”

"Oh, yes," Newgrange offered a sheepish smile. "Quite a while, a few years, actually. There's quite a bit that I don't know. Mostly at my homeworld." He drew in a breath and seemed a bit exasperated. "Which I keep meaning to go back to. Except—there's a man there. Apparently the old protector of Newgrange. And while he provided me with this ring," he paused and held up his hand to investigate his signet ring. "…He was much more interested in me removing myself from his presence. I've got some things to give to him, but I'm not sure if I'm even welcome enough to drop them off. But," he sighed and shrugged. "Oh, well. I need to get stronger."
He planted his hands on his hips and seemed to be chewing on the inside of his cheek thoughtfully. "I've spent more time avoiding Negaverse Agents. Youma are no problem, but when it comes to fighting people?" He shrugged. "I need all the experience I can get. Ideally I'd like more people to spar with. Pretty sure I've gotten rusty since my last real fight."

"Oh, yes! There's a rather testy old man at my Wonder as well, but he doesn't so much not want me there as he's sometimes oblivious that I even exist?" She shrugged. "I think we just need to learn to deal with them. I mean, your ancestor should really just get use to the fact that you're now the Knight there. Whether he likes it or not, you have all right to be at your Wonder. Though I admit, I've spent little time at Hy-Brasil. I really should work on fixing that. It is a lovely place once you get past the overgrowth and deterioration."
"Hm? Spar?" She pondered that. Sparring was certainly not a terrible idea, but at the same time, she wasn't sure how useful she'd be for the other squire. "I mean, if you'd like, we can go spar with on another. I am not all that great with fighting. Not yet anyway. I am hoping to improve considering I've had my a** handed to me not too long ago. It sort of drove home my need to get better. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if I was a little gun shy after my last encounter." She gave an apologetic look to Newgrange.

Newgrange found himself nodding as she spoke; he shared similar sentiments about Wonders and their restoration--and getting along with ancestors. When sparring got mentioned, it was all he could think about.
"No, I understand," he said, trying to sound reassuring. "I'm glad you made it out all right, though. If you'd like to spar, I would appreciate it. I can be careful, if you're nervous." His brows were knit in concern; it sounded like they could both use a little extra practice, but he didn't want to do anything that could make her uncomfortable. "Right now, I need to practice with my magic," he confessed. "It's not much more than an earthquake, but I haven't used it enough to really gotten a good grip on it. Maybe you can give me some feedback and we can work from there?"

"No. We can definitely spar. I can't keep avoiding it. One day or another I'll find myself in a tight spot and I'd rather be better prepared than I was." She paused as she mused over the whole magic situation though. "To tell you the truth, I'am probably not the best when it comes to magic. At least, not in battle." She held out her incense burner, little tendrils of smoke rose up from the silver burner. "My magic is healing magic. Not something utilized in battle unless I am trying to tend to someone."
"But I suppose that doesn't mean I can't watch and see what you're doing. Give input on what I am experiencing and seeing?" She smiled encouragingly. "It's certainly worth a shot, anyway.
"So." She said, giving her incense burner a little twirl between her fingers. "The park, like we planned, yes?" She quirked a brow at him. "That's probably the best place to spar. There's lots of places we can go without being seen."
She gave a nod of her head, before heading off in the direction of the large DC Park.

Newgrange nodded; he traversed the distance to the park with her and, once settled, seemed to be content with that as a warm up. He waited until she was in a comfortable position and took one himself. He didn't imagine they would be sparring for long; it was already getting late. Improvement was important, but staying out too late was risky. He was just going to make the best of the opportunity while he could.
"Ready?" he asked; he waited to make sure she was and then drew in a breath. "I'm going to come at you. And I will use my magic. It shouldn't hurt," he said, trying to make sure she was prepared. It was more information than he would give an enemy, but the whole goal was to benefit the both of him.
He ran at her, arm drawn out as though he was going to strike her--but instead, ducked low and punched the ground right at her feet. A tremor ran from the earth immediately after, rippling beneath their feet like a small earthquake. It was jarring but not painful--ultimately it was just a distraction meant to disorient.

The trek to the park was equally a good enough warm up for Hy-Brasil. The spot they chose was far enough away that any late night walker shouldn't see them, but there were enough ambient light so they weren't completely blind in the dark. To tell the truth, Hy was happy that they were going to spar. She was curious what Newgrange could do and hoped they could both get something out of their little match.
"Ready when you are." She said as she took a stance, preparing herself for the oncoming attack. "Give me what you got." She grinned, though she wasn't sure if he could see her expression in the dim light.
And then his form went from stationary to rushing towards her. She sunk further int her legs, grounding herself for the attack, expecting something more offensive. She had not expected him to punch the ground causing the earth to tremble below her. She stumbled a bit, her legs and body having prepared for an impact from the front, not a shifting from below, but managed to keep herself on her feet. But, as a distraction it worked wonderfully as she was thrown off for several seconds. Seconds that could mean a turn of tides in a fight.
"Damn that's useful." She remarked as she recovered, but instead of stopping to spar, she instead went at Newgrange. Pushing herself up into his space as a leg rose up to kick his own out from under him.

Newgrange didn't have time to affirm that he'd found his use for his magic; he had to focus to keep channeling it and it wasn't always easy to talk and channel at the same time. At least, not yet. Maybe when he was more practiced, but for now he hadn't wanted to risk it.
Her kick hit the spot; he wasn't in a position to really avoid it. Still, he wasn't going to go down alone if he could help it. When her kick made contact with his, he reached for the closest thing he could--not to stabilize himself, but to try and drag her down with him.
He wrapped an arm around the same leg she kicked with, keeping a firm grip even as he toppled over. "Sorry!" he apologized preemptively.

Hy-Brasil wasn't a pro fighter. She trained hard at the MMA gym she went to, but didn't compete. Instead she just used the training she received out on patrol. It was a good way to practice things. And, in truth, she had been told that kicks could be intercepted and used against her, she just had never had it happen before.
She barely had time to adjust herself as she felt the weight of Newgrange pull her downwards. There was no stopping the fall. Nothing to grab onto. All she could do was try to brace herself as she fell onto her back so she didn't smack her head on anything. Her forearms took the brunt of the impact and an audible "oomph' escaped.
"Damn." She cursed. Her legs were tangled with Newgrange. "I deserved that." She commented as she scooted herself away from him so she could get to her feet. "I would say you won that bout. You alright?" She questioned, hoping he hadn't been hurt during his meet-up with the hard ground.
Once she was on her feet she held a hand out to him to help hoist him up. "So, do you make it a point to apologize to all of your opponents when you're taking them down?" She teased.

Newgrange blinked and lifted his head before pushing himself up. He reached up to accept her hand and hauled himself to his feet. “I’m fine,” he promised. “I’m more durable than I look, trust me.”
When he was on his feet, he brushed himself off. “I suppose I do apologize to them. I feel bad about hurting them!” It must have sounded silly; he laughed softly. “I’m not really a violent person. I’d rather everyone work their problems out with words but,” he shrugged. “I know it’s unrealistic. I want to be good enough to keep myself and the people around me safe. Regardless of what their intentions are, or whose side they’re on, they’re still people. I don’t want to hurt them. Though,” his voice trailed off and he scratched the back of his neck nervously while his gaze wandered away. “Some of them do sort of deserve it.”

Hy shook her head. "I can't find myself able to apologize. Not anymore, anyway." She went about dusting herself off as well. Both her skirts and stockings were showing the dusty dirt from her fall. The brown bodice did a fair enough number at disguising anything stuck to it. "I never htought of myself as violent but...well..." she shrugged. "I guess when people say 'War changes people' it was more than just a saying."
She gave him a wry smile. "Some of them definitely do deserve it." She ran a hand through her hair, fingers catching on hidden tangles from their little scuffle. "But, maybe you're right. They all probably don't deserve to be held in the same light just because they are on the opposite side of us." It was a tough thing to deal with actually. At least for Gwen. She was finding herself running into more and more agents who...well...they weren't nice. They were starting to create large brush strokes of themselves and all of their faction, but...maybe she should try and be like Newgrange and try to hold onto that hope that maybe they weren't all that terrible?
"Anyway, it's getting late. I know we didn't get to spar as much as either of us would have like but I have work in the morning and I am sure you've got places to be." She smiled. "We should meet up again though. Feel free to toss me a message if you want to meet up again or need me for anything, alright?" Hy wanted to help out anyone she could on the Order side and putting herself out there and open for helping others was a good step towards that.[

War did change people; Newgrange found himself nodding at the sentiment. He lifted his head when she mentioned meeting up again. “Oh—Absolutely. I’m sorry for keeping you up so late, I enjoyed talking with you. I’ll try to be a better sparring partner, the next time we get to it. You get home safely, all right? I’ll message you some time. Get home safely.”
He waved and turned, as if to leave, but paused a half-step away.
“Hy-Brasil,” he said, and rolled his thoughts over in his mind for just a moment before he finished his thought. “War might change people, but…don’t let it change you too much. You seem like a good person. Don’t lose that, all right? No matter how bad things might get.”
It was something they should all aspire to; a victory against the Negaverse was worthless if you lost yourself in the process.
