Falco marks was... at least at the moment, feeling a bit under pressure. ... And in this particular instance... partially under some pressure treated wood. This was a thing he suspected years and years down the road would -probably- be a hilarious story told to equally hot headed youngsters... but right now he was just trying to figure out how to extract his leg from the park bench he'd just kicked a hole in... and gotten stuck in.

He wasn't exactly clear how he'd managed this particularly, since he'd gone deeper diving into the 'Game of Thrones' flavor of Warg that Lupin was talking about and there didn't seem to be any strength boost... so his best guess for the situation was basically just that it was really not his... da... er... wee... ... month. Not his month.

"Well congratulations, self... you have,,,," He paused to try and readjust his angle and tug his leg free without digging in and pointy wood bits any further. "....Literally put your ******** foot in it. Waaaayyyy to go. Couldn't get any... better.."

He muttered and cursed, before pausing and looking around, not sure if he she should be looking for help or doing his desperate best to make it look like absolutely nothing was wrong, though he was pretty sure the second might actually take more acting skills than he had under his belt.

...Maybe he could pretend there was a spider. A really honking big spider...

Jeremiah Mercer was actually taking a walk for his lunch break today. If only because the heat pounding down upon his back felt good. Even with all the layers he wore, there was always that chill he could not shake (and sometimes pain he could not get away from).

What he was not expecting to find was someone with their foot stuck in a bench. The detective lieutenant walked quietly, not making too much noise as he approached. His expression was neutral, save for a slight eyebrow raise.

"Need some help there?" he inquired. So very conversationally.

Falco made an awkward, startled sound that communicated quite a lot for not having much to do with any true language, and nearly fell on his butt, floundered around for a moment, and finally regained his balance, looking awkwardly around at Detective Mercer.

Well... this was... um.

"H... Hi. Sir." He cleared his throat awkwardly. Out of anyone who had to sneak up on him, he was pretty sure Detective Mercer wasn't going to buy the 'aggressive spider beat down' defense, and the actual explanation about Wargs and Zac and witches and magic and godforsakenPINCHING was even less convincing, he was pretty sure. "It um..." He glanced down at his stuck foot, cleared his throat and muttered. "...It's pretty much exactly what it looks like."

To be fair he hadn't remotely expected it to actually break but that seemed a bit beyond the point at this juncture.

Jeremiah stepped forward and put a hand on Falco to steady him so that he did not fall and hurt himself further.

"Mm, destruction of public property?" he questioned with a raised eyebrow. "That you likely got angry and frustrated and decided to take it out on this poor bench?" The detective's face was completely neutral and his tone was too.

It was a perfect deadpan delivery.

Falco couldn't even come close to deadpan for looking embarrassed and uncomfortable.

"Well I did say it was what it looked like... except for the part where I had this crazy impression benches were sturdier than this... And at the time it seemed like a better option than 'that rock over there' or something...."

And they had had a little talk on -maybe not punching people so....

So far though this seemed a lot more embarrassing though he wasn't gonna lie.

"I liked it better when getting scaled by a startled racoon was the stupidest, weirdest thing that happened to me..."

"At this point," Jeremiah spoke as he was making sure Falco did not have anything injured, "you are likely lucky that it's your pride that's injured and not the rest of you. The other thing you're not aware of is that the city is in the process of replacing these benches in the next couple of weeks."

The neutral expression faded, some amusement visible for a moment before it was pushed back into place. He was going to the other side of the bench to get Falco's leg out of it. Jeremiah raised an eyebrow, blue green eyes focused on the teenager. "Stupid weird things happening to you? Such as ...?"

... because another young teenager that was pulled into all of this would make perfect sense.

"Well that's a little... harder to explain." And he had to admit harder to explain than I am caught in the park bench was pretty impressive. That would explain how he'd KOed the boards that were supposed to support the weight of much larger people than he was though. At least something made sense and it wasn't 'you're developing Jet Lee abilities it's totally natural.'

"I wasn't taking it seriously until Zac decided to start pinching me to make a point but Dr. Lupin popped up on Campus and gave me like... the ... really embarrassing 'you are going through some changes' speech only for..."

Oh god it still sounded stupid. "Wargs." He grimaced as though he expected full on laughter, and he wouldn't have blamed anyone. "So I am currently convinced anyone saying 'Go to Ashdown it will be a lovely change of pace' actually means 'Go to Ashdown because ******** you in particular... And a leads to b and I am... stuck in an apparently really old bench being kind of grateful this hasn't made it to Facebook."

You're not going to post it on Facebook. Are you? ARE YOU?

Jeremiah hunkered down with a harsh breath that he let out, his back still not having the motion, and was grabbing hold of Falco's foot and leg to help push back and get loose. Actually, no. He was going to have to break some more of the wood which he did.

He leaned back up at the mention of Zac and pinching, lips twitching again because that he knew about, yet that meant ...

The detective lieutenant lifted himself up for a moment, arms folded across the bench briefly. "Lara Lupin?" Not that there was any other Lupin that he knew about in town beside her that also have a doctorate. "Wargs?" Jeremiah smoothed a hand across his face and disappeared back lower to help free Falco.

First werewolves and now wargs ... "I am going to go out on a limb here and assume that you've been having things happening to you and that is partly why I'm about to get your foot out of this bench." There was a huff of breath. "Also that I would hope you are talking wargs from Game of Thrones."

The conversations he was having lately.

"There's no worries about this being on facebook because of me," he added dryly.

Falco: jostling around trying to find a place that best helped him keep his balance and gave him a chance to help extract his leg, hopefully with the fewest number of possible new scratches, hissed through his teeth in discomfort as he accidentally poked himself on the boards, trying awkwardly to get his hands on something to push or pull his way free, but he didn't have much angle for push, with one foot stuck, unless he wanted to try and shove it further in, and pulling just made him poke himself harder.

"Um..."

He shot Jerimiah an another reluctant look, either embarrassed to discuss this, or not sure if Jerimiah came with some kind of fun power like Zac's pinching that he was about to be subjected to.

"Only a couple times...but yeah kinda. And she did say the kind of Game of Thrones kind but I am apparently the last guy around who doesn't really see the appeal. I mean s**t... I've seen clips of that little b*****d Jeoffrey... but at this rate maybe I should stick it on my reading list." He sighed. Ugh. Maybe he could spring for like... audio book versions or something.

At least the good Detective wasn't going to be using this to embarrass him... though he'd approached so quietly it was kind of easy to imagine walking into class and facing a sea of sniggers, giggles and smirks, and it was hard not to scowl at the persuasive thought of that possible future.

"Stop moving, I've got you. Just keep your balance and I can break some more of these boards to get you loose." Which the moment he said that, Jeremiah had cracked another. It was almost enough for Falco to pull his leg free but he was then breaking another one to really help.

The wood was old and rotted in a couple places and he was not really sure why.

"Depends. They don't really highlight the warging as much as they could in the television series." His tone was neutral because he was talking while working. High fantasy books were something of a personal favorite. "... but that would imply you've got some kind of connection to an animal of some sort. That they'll be your eyes and ears when you need them to be."

With another crack, Falco could pull his leg free with minimal poking. "I would put it on your reading list but also recommend you stop by Bibliophile and see if Zac or Algie, the shop owner, can help you find a book." He was pushing himself back up to stand with a quiet hiss of breath. Jeremiah did not look like he was mocking him at all. If anything, he clearly believed him.

"Did you talk to Zac about this?"

Ryuthulhu
falco, he's so nonchalant about it ...

"Y...yeah I did." Falco pulled his leg free with an obvious look of relief, balancing for a moment to rub his shin and hiss quietly in complaint. Not the most comfortable position to have been stuck in. "...I wasn't really taking it seriously, because you know... it sounded like a colossal prank except for the fact Dr. Lupin was in on it..." He shot the Detective a confused look, trying to gauge how much the older man did or didn't do. "So he decided to 'convince' me." he added, a bit sourly, making a little pinching motion as demonstration. "...Obviously he's fine." He added as well, because he suspected that the temptation to dangle Zac out the window or the like was probably understood. Magic or not... it was kind of an...

Well he didn't entirely appreciate the approach. "I mean I guess there's a meeting coming up because I guess there's... others... but..." He flapped his arms, helplessly. "Where the hell is the 'I didn't sign up for this s**t complaint line? I mean... I don't even have a pet... don't all the Starks or whatever like... already own their giant a** wolfy buddies?"

That much was hard to miss in passing, much like the 'Jeoffery is a tool' thing.

Oh God... what if it was that motherbleeping racoon from that dumpster....PLEASE let it not be the racoon.

Jeremiah snorted at the comment that Zac was fine. That he never doubted (even if he doubted emotional state, his physical one was alright).

Still this information about wargs was ...

Weres and now wargs? Just what kind of conflux was going down in Ashdown (and other ashdown)? Standing back up properly, he gave Falco just the slightest twitch upwards of his lips. It was a reassuring look from someone who normally kept his face neutral around those that did not really know him.

"It's not a complaint line so much as a line for some folks." To voice their opinions to the powers that be. Except they couldn't. He let out a huff of breath; a near sardonic laugh. "Also the Starks raised their direwolves, they found them as pups. Not that I think that's going to be the case with you but who knows." Again ... Lara Lupin was involved. How had she gotten caught up in all of this?

"If you know Zac then you obviously know who I am." Not that it stopped the next bit. "Detective Lieutenant Jeremiah Mercer," he said, coming around the bench to offer a hand out to Falco. "... and it sounds like you've found yourself in the deep end of something."

It was getting to sound far, far too familiar.

"Well unless Lupin's dog also has some size changing powers I don't know about you're... probably right." Falco admitted. Although even as surreal as everything was, the idea of that dog becoming a pony sized giant was pretty funny. "And Yes sir..." he added, with that sort of reluctant tone people frequently used when admitting they did know you were with the police and reminded them made them wonder if you were going to arrest them. "Falco Marks... but... you probably knew that too." He imagined his reputation had spread that far. "And... so far 'something' seems sort of like the polite company sort of word for what's going on."

"I didn't actually," Jeremiah said with a small smile. "Contrary to popular belief, the police do not know everything." There was a glint in his eyes, amusement clear. He knew that tone quite well. "Not yet anyway."

He was looking Falco's leg over to make sure that it wasn't bleeding or anything before his focus went back to the young man's face. "Something is the easiest way to explain it. When did it start?" His head tilted down the path. "If your leg is alright, you can walk with me for a bit. My break is almost over but you can come talk to me later, if you want."

"Ha... um... Don't go on Tumblr... the um. popular opinion has changed a bit. I mean for, you know... stuff in general not you specifically." He shook out his leg for a second and shrugged, intending to imply that it was fine, or at least nothing that wouldn't be fixed by some band aids and antibacterial ointment. (possibly a set of tweezers at worst case, he figured.)

"It... was like a week or two ago. I just kind of zoned out in class a bit and just... everything seemed like... really clear. I could even -smell- stuff I couldn't before, it was... weird. I had trouble figuring out if it was me or my imagination or... Then along comes Lupin and is all "Oh hey congratulations on being weird, we're meeting at Black Friars blah blah. It only happened a couple times, but I don't know what happens from here. ...Does that... help or anything?"
