aka I promise I will think of a better title and sorry it's like a week late OTLIt was a little out of the way, but it wasn't so bad. Shiloh enjoyed the trek.
When he was on his bike with his headphones in, it was easy to zone out and consider the scenery and be alone with his thoughts. Maybe it was a little dangerous too, because it wasn't like he could hear the oncoming traffic that way, but when had Shiloh ever been a stickler for self preservation? Living life on the edge, man.
It was, however, the first time in a while that he'd actually set foot in a bookstore. The Biblophile was a place his brother frequented, sure, but Shiloh? Well, reading really just wasn't his thing... but he promised Ollie he'd stop by to pick something up for him, and Shiloh thought maybe he could have a look around too. Audiobooks were neat, maybe they'd have some? God, he wondered how much more expensive they probably were... or maybe cheaper? He always got them for free online anyway.
So here he was, bike parked out front as he meandered in through the doorway. Ah, first problem.
Where the hell did he even start looking? Not to mention he was some scruffy looking kid who stuck out like a sore thumb. He rubbed the band-aid across his slightly bruised nose self consciously.

Zac at least was making some effort to be sure that the customers didn’t miss the fact he was there to assist today. While there was a nice policy that permitted sitting so long as things were organized, he still needed to make sure his new found skill of ‘look past me to something falling over or down at your phone because you got a text or…whatever.’ was not useful when you were supposed to be doing customer service. He considered applying for store security but, that probably meant having to tackle people at some point, and that would just be laughable. When he heard the chimes on the door and saw a slightly, banged up young man enter he made the requisite greeting. Not HIS place to judge after all. Look what could hurt you in this town… literally everything and then some. “Hi! Welcome to Bibliophile, can I help you find anything.” he greeted. Melancholies It's just find don't worry XD

s**t ******** s**t he's been spotted repeat he's been spotted. Shiloh slowly turned to face the voice that had spoken to him, eyes immediately drawn to the color of their hair. That was cool s**t right there—wait no, focus Shiloh focus.
"I, Uh..." eloquent as ever, it seemed. Shiloh immediately stuffed his hands into his pockets defensively, though it looked more like he was awkward than anything. "C-Cool, yeah, thanks. I'm fine."
Good, now get away, get away. He tried to be dismissive, walk off, but it brought him back to square one. Where the ******** was he even supposed to look? Christ, he was practically helpless. And also had his back turned to this guy now. Way to go, awkward a*****e.
"Okay wait, um, wait." he spun around, hands out now, fingers thrumming together. Being cordial was so awkward. "I guess I am kinda looking for something, sort of. I mean..." oh god he couldn't even remember the name of the book his brother wanted. s**t well he just re-wandered back into this conversation. Okay, be cool.
"AUDIOBOOKS." God, strike him down now. "You have those? Somewhere?"

Zac blinked at the almost explosive statement-question. He hesitated a moment and then nodded. “Was… was there a particular one you were after? I can take you to where it would be if we have it in stock, and if we don’t have it I’ll take you right over to the computers, we can put in an order and I’ll tell you when, about, it should arrive? And if you need it right away, I can see if we have something else that would suit what you’re looking for.” He offered, almost in a rush, it was almost clear that he was laying out the map of the store, small though it was in his mind while he offered up the options. “… Are you, alright though?” He asked cautiously. “…Sorry if I startled you.”

"Oh it's uh—I mean, you're fine. Probably." he narrowed his eyes, but honestly at this point all his aggression was bark. His bite was reduced to a flustered sort of nonsense that came with being startled, which, Shiloh Beaumont was definitely not startled or anything. He was better than that.
"I mean, I'm fine, not startled." See? Not startled. Except now he was puffing himself up, chest sticking out a little too proudly as he crossed his arms. He could totally take this guy. Who did he think he was? Sneaking up on him—well, by the looks of it, they seemed to be an employee. Well, that explained a lot, actually. Shiloh started to feel self conscious about the bruised nose again. He started to let up again, mind racing with a flurry of emotions. He usually had a lot more composure than... well, this.
"I-I mean, there is. Sort of. I uh..." what? Forgot what you ******** came for? A+ for class Shiloh "Whatever. I'm just browsing, I mean." little white lies never hurt anyone, especially because Shiloh wasn't really one for conversation and he might be feeling a little overwhelmed. Just a little. Not that much okay? Okay.
Definitely Okay. Yep. Never been better.

Zac nodded and looked apologetic. “Sorry… if you need help I’ll just be putting things on the shelves and cleaning up periodicals. My name is Zac so… if you don’t see me just give a call or look for the cat.” He pointed to his shoulder companion who shifted from tiny foot to foot looking curiously pleased and excited.

Sure, okay, he'd keep that in mind. Sorry weird 'Zac the Bookstore guy helper', but Shiloh was on a mission and he was feeling a little too awkward and he still wasn't sure how he'd navigate the goddamn store, but—
"Cat?" ah yes, animals. "Like, a real cat? Like living? Holy ******** where? Wait—"
He wanted very much to pet this creature. Audiobook, Ollie's book, all books; Status: Forgotten. How had he not noticed it before? Ohhhhhh god. "C-Can I pet it?" his eyes were gleaming.

Zac blinked, then nodded cautiously. "Mog! Hey Mogget! C'mere!" He called, turning towards one of the arm chairs by the window. A fluffy white 'cushion' sprouted a sudden head, blinking golden eyes and grey smudge 'eyebrows' that were curiously perfect moon shapes that added a look of perpetual surprise. A few golden eyed blinks, a wide pink yawn and a spread toe- stretch and a slender leggy cat lept off the chair and bounded happily towards them as though they were friends it hadn't seen in years. "M-m-m-m-mrr-ruu!?" it said as it bounced over, hip-bumping the 'visitor before turning to plant fluffy white butt onto galaxy-painted boot and gazing up at their customer looking immensely pleased. Rather like it might also offer to help find a book or periodical. Zac stooped and scooped up the cat, flipping it belly up in a flurry of pink toe pads and long legs, tail curling around his wrist like a possum. "This is Mogget, He's very polite about NOT jumping on customers, and he's normally attached at my hip, but he had a super busy morning telling squirrels why they need to get away from the windows. He's a licker too so I hope that's ok!"

First things first, Mogget was absolutely, undeniably the cutest ******** name for anything Shiloh had heard in his entire life. That was really saying something.
Second, the fact that he was so friendly caught Shiloh's heartstrings immediately. Mogget was just... so fluffy and light looking. Shiloh knew immediately in that moment that he had to touch this cat. He was quite the animal lover, all things considered.
Well, not in any overt sense. Shiloh wouldn't go out of his way to play with pets, but he was definitely the kind of guy who would show up at parties just to harass your dog and not to socialize with anyone. As he reached out, his thoughts were comfirmed; Mogget in fact was a cloud to the touch. It was an absolute dream.
"Wow..." his eyes might have been sparkling a little bit, "Licking is fine," he added, noting just how pleased the cat looked. Then again, cats usually looked very pleased for some reason.
Actually, Shiloh began to calm down as he continued petting the creature. The books. Well, he still couldn't remember what it was his brother asked him to pick up again (y'know, the whole point of this trip), but he didn't really care. What he did care about was looking like an absolute clod for leaving without actually looking, especially after petting this goddamn cat.
"I wasn't really looking for like... anything in particular." he lied through his teeth, but he wasn't about to admit that he forgot. He was trying to regain a little bit of normalcy, after all "Actually, I don't read a lot. S'why I listen to audiobooks 'n stuff... but..." he ceased the pets for a second as he searched for his words.
"But, I'm kinda caught up on all my series. D'you like... have any recs or somethin'?" he felt bashful asking it, "I'm Shiloh, by the way..." actually, why was he introducing himself to a store associate? Good ******** going Beaumont.

“I’m pretty sure I could find something you might like.” Zac nodded; meanwhile his cat took the chance to reach out an arm, pawing at the air reaching for the new comers shoulder. “I’m Zac” He said offering a hand in greeting of his own. “One of the employees of the shop, we have a good number of us that work here, honestly the best one for finding things is the owner, but.. Yeah, tell me the series you were listening to! I’m sure we have something in stock that will interest you!” He glanced at his cat and then lifted a hand to gently lift the feline and offer him, reaching arms and wide eyes and all to Shiloh. “Here, if you don’t mind company he loves making new friends!”
