Constynce wasn't sure how she felt about this change in plans.
After traveling from her village to her new home, she'd been told that her betrothed had been called to Zena on a trip of diplomacy. ...She had no idea what that meant, but being the man's bride-to-be, she was apparently expected to follow him.
All the way to Zena!
The only good thing was that Tryston was able to continue being her escort. After all, he was headed back to Zena anyway. She didn't need a new escort to get used to. Tryston did seem to get a bit stiff after that first night's storm, but Constynce didn't let it bother her. He was still decent enough. And it was better than sitting alone in an unfamiliar place.
When they reached their destination though, Constynce wished she was back in Tale with her plants.
Zena was COLD! Not just cold even, but FREEZING! She'd been forced to purchase boots and long pants and a sweater and a coat and a scarf and a hat and mittens and thick socks... and she was still cold!!
Tryston was off figuring out where they would be staying while in the town. After all, she couldn't stay with her beau! They weren't married yet! But, they would be meeting soon...
Constynce had a stomach ache over what was to come. Her nerves were worn down from the meeting being so delayed, and despite the miserable temperatures, she was outside walking. She could stay a little warmer if she kept moving, and she was able to inspect the trees of the area. They were so different from those of her home...

Serana walked towards town with her janarim, Iska. The weather in Zena was absolutely beautiful today. Even better, Iska definitely took a liking to the cold weather, even though his species was used to the hot, dry desert climates. He rolled around in the snow and Serana couldn't help but laugh. "It certainly is great weather, yet again, isn't it, Iska?" They continued towards the town, and Iska stopped running and ran to Serana's side. She looked around and spotted someone in the distance, studying the trees. "Oh, Iska. It could be one of the villagers! Let's go say hello." She walked towards the stranger. When she saw that the stranger was a leaf earthling, she knew that she wasn't from the village. "Oh, hello there! You're not from Zena, are you? Aren't you cold? Do you need help finding the village?" Serana smiled blissfully. "Oh, where are my manners. My name is Serana." She did a curtsy and asked, "So, um, miss... What are you doing out here in the woods?"

Constance pouted slightly from behind her scarf. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't feel the strange covering on the trees through her mittens; and she wasn't about to take them off. Shivering a little under her layers, she decided that finding cover inside somewhere might be best when a voice spoke up nearby.
First and foremost, she stared at the janarim with wide eyes. Weren't those things native to Oba? She'd seeing drawings in her lesson books, but to see one up close... It was an intimidating thing! But the woman next to it was a stark contrast, and the flurry of questions made her giggle. "I am absolutely freezing, Serana. My name is Constynce," she said with her laugh, attempting a restricted nod. "You're right; I'm from Tale. I was actually just going to head back to the village. I came out because the trees are so different here than back home, but this is simply too cold for me. Do you know where I may get something warm to drink?"

Iska sniffed the girl and huffed, as if to say 'you're alright'. Serana pet Iska and said to Constynce, "Ah, there's no need to be afraid of him. He's intimidating at first, but he has a warm and gentle heart once you get to know him." Serana couldn't help but take pride that she had found such a wonderful beast as one of her closest friends. She knew how lucky she was to have him, and Iska certainly was aware of how lucky he was to have her. Serana figured that was why he almost never left her side. "Come now, let's get you some warm food, a hot drink and some more of our fine Zena fur, my treat." Serana started walking towards the village and gestured for Constynce to follow, as Iska raced ahead, running around the trees, stopping sometimes to roll around in the snow. Serana giggled again. "So, what brings you to our lovely home of Zena?" She asked with a gentle smile.

Stiffening up, Constance watched the large creature with plenty of caution. When it seemed to accept her though, she smiled. How sweet...
"Oh, I would truly appreciate that," she said gratefully, following after the ice native. Lovely? Well, sure, it was lovely in its own way... "I'm here with.. my fiance," she murmured, gaze lowering. Her fiance. She still wasn't used to that idea.. and still wasn't to fond of it, either. "He's in some sort of meeting right now."

Serana turned her head to look at Constynce while they walked. "Oh, my goodness! You're getting married? That's so wonderful!" She clasped her own hands together. "How great it must be to find true love..." She sighed at the thought of getting married. It was definitely something she would have wanted to do in the future. "Well the town is but a minute away. We should do something to celebrate, no? Are you hungry? I know of a nice tavern where we can get some warm soup." She smiled at Constynce and continued to lead her towards the town tavern.

Blushing lightly, Constance's gaze shifted further away. "Yes. Wonderful..." she sighed softly and wiped an eye. Even when she'd arrived at her new home in Tale, no one had actually welcomed her. No one had congratulated her. It had felt more and more like a job than something she could hope to grow into accepting. This was a first, and it was hitting her hard.
Celebrate? "Just something hot to drink, really. I was.. going to wait on food for-" Honestly, who knew how long that meeting would last? She really was hungry. "I am famished!" she exclaimed, walking a little quicker to catch up to Serana. "Again, I truly appreciate the offer. It's so generous of you. I wish I had something to give in return.."

"Oh, don't you worry about that! Come, we're about there." As Serana continued to walk into the town, a few crossroads down, she came up to the tavern. "This place has the best hot soup, and warm tea, trust me. They have this sweet bread they serve wit the soup too that just completes the meal." serana clasped her hands together in excitement. She walked into the establishment and found the nearest empty table for the two of them to sit down in, and waited for the tavern lady to take their orders. "So, who's the lucky person, hm?" She smiled as she teased and leaned in as if to keep the conversation quiet in a joking manner.

As Serana went on about the food to come, Constynce felt her stomach growl. The man really didn't expect her to wait for him to eat, right? Besides, she could still nibble later when he was free to meet her.
Once inside, her mood lifted quite a bit. The cold wind there was certainly not her style. With the fire roaring nearby, she felt safe enough to take off her scarf and mittens, freeing her up to be a bit more social. ...Though, perhaps hiding would have been better. Constynce pulled up a weak smile. "He.. well..." Blushing hotly, she snorted and shook her head. What was the point in keeping up appearances here? They would hopefully not be staying for long. "I honestly don't know. I have a name, but I haven't even met him yet. It.. was arranged for us. I was supposed to meet him back in Tale. He got called to a meeting out here before I arrived though, and I was told to follow." Green eyes flicking back up, she smiled lightly. "Not to lessen the mood... After all, he may be someone better than anyone I could dream up myself, right?"

Serana blinked. Ah an arranged marriage? That must be tough on the poor girl... She knew if she were in Constynce's shoes, she would feel sad to have not been able to choose her own lover. Serana smiled warmly. "Well, I would certainly hope so. As long as you're happy with him in the end, then nothing else matters." She got up from the table and said, "I'll go to the barkeep and place our orders, instead of waiting for the barmaid. You must be really hungry after all." She went o the counter and put in an order of two hot sweat bread soups, and two hot teas. I hope she likes it, and more importantly I hope her arranged marriage works out for her. Then Serana thought, Well... What if she already had someone she loved before the arranged marriage? What would I even do in that situation? Her friend, Tryston gave her some advice before about fighting for the right thing. She gave the barkeep some coins for the meals and went back to her seat. As she sat back down at the table, she thought to herself, I would marry whomever was my true love, I suppose... "Well, I put in our orders. They should be out soon."

Constynce nodded with that little smile, but her stomach felt cold. So long as she was happy with him in the end... She did want to be happy, but was it with him? She had no idea what kind of man he was. ..Though, if everyone was so confident that he would be voted as the next chief, then he couldn't be too bad!
She took the moment along to inspect the tavern itself. She wasn't sure she liked being so closed in... Here in Zena, she knew it was necessary. Back in Tale though, she could have windows and doors open without a problem. She already missed that. Otherwise... the basics were not too different from home. A bar, tables, chairs, food and drink. It was a small comfort. "I'm excited to try this soup here. This is my first time away from Tale."

"Oh? What's it like there? I'm guessing it's definitely warmer." She laughed. Just then the barmaid came to their table with their soups and tea. As Serana prepared to eat, she looked at Constynce, and put her spoon down. "Where are my manners?" She gestured to Constynce with a smile to take the first bite. "After you."

Leaning back as the food was placed, Constynce inhaled deeply. It all smelled different, but wonderful at the same time! "Yes, Tale is much warmer than here," she said with a giggle. Wearing so many layers was turning into a trying experience for her~
Manners? "If you insist," she said, scooping up a spoonful. Blowing on it to make sure it was cool enough, she took her bite. After a moment of tasting, she hummed softly with approval. "That's just what I needed," she said with a content sigh, eyes closing as she savored her second bite. Even the soup seemed to be warming the chill in her bones from being outside.

"Great! I'm glad you like it." Serana was happy to see Constynce perk up a bit after eating some soup. "So, how long do you think you'll be here before returning to Tale?" Deep down, Serana felt a little sad at the thought. She wanted to see Constynce again. She certainly was a sweet girl, and Serana needed close friends. Well, maybe i can visit her in Tale someday... That is, after she returns home. It was a nice thought. Maybe they could become close friends, that much she could hope for.

Swallowing, Constynce tapped her spoon to her lip. "I.. don't really know. I only just got her today. I'm assuming that since I was asked to come along, I'll be here for at least a few days. It's a long trip to come for a single day." Oh, she would be irritated to come all this way only to turn back around tomorrow. ...It would be nice to be back in a warmer place soon, but still, irritating.
"Maybe we could meet again soon? I would enjoy that."
