CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Amata was the only child of witch Meredith Harlowe and her muggle husband Graham. Her mother, rather on the romantic side and having an obsession with history, mythology and fairy tales, spent most of her daughters early years reading her stories, imbibing her with a great love for them. Amata grew up in a home that was an odd mixture of muggle and magical norms, and was always amused by the fact that her mother's rather successful career as an author went largely ignored by her old-fashioned father, who insisted that he was the 'breadwinner' for the family. It was his money that paid the bills, which left them free to save Meredith's earnings and spend it on vacations and other frivolous things.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Like most of the magical side of her family, Amata was sorted into Gryffindor at Hogwarts. The stories she had been read from birth all spoke of great heroes and valiant good deeds, and she saw fit to continue the tradition of such. However, she had a penchant for speaking her mind when it wasn't necessarily welcome or appropriate, and was often in trouble. She never really learned to curb her tongue, thinking it was wrong for her to have to do so. Still, she was an excellent student, and managed good grades in spite of her mouth, particularly in any history-centric lessons.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» After her graduation, Amata's parents built her a small cottage near their own home for her to live in by herself. She spent a few years working mostly as her mother's personal editor, though this proved to be unfulfilling. She returned to Hogwarts as a professor, hoping that she could help create the same passion she held for old stories in her students. Her first year teaching, she made one friend, a man named Regret Owens, who seemed quiet and somewhat depressed to her, but nice all the same. Towards the end of the year, Regret's depression seemed to catch up with him; he snapped, and attacked two students. Amata managed to save them, thankfully, but she always felt guilty over the attack, believing that as his friend, she should have somehow been able to stop it. Over the next couple of years, she tried to help the two affected students heal from the trauma of the attack, and grew very close to them. She also opened up to another of her fellow professors, forcing herself to push her boundaries and befriend the History of Magic professor, Grayson Powell, in an effort to get over the emotional scarring Regret's attack had caused. Her feelings for Grayson, however, turned romantic, and she proceeded to spend the next couple of years switching between trying to force herself to get over it and flirting with him to see if he were interested. Eventually, she finally asked him on a date, to which he said yes, and after one dinner date and a month in Greece (his idea), she began to consider them a couple, though she wasn't entirely certain he was on the same page.
xxx»» Eventually Amata settled into a comfortable place in her relationship with Grayson, though a lot of the rest of her life seemed to grow more and more tumultuous as that grew less so. Her best friend Ciaran went through what she would've liked to call a nasty divorce, but nasty implied that there was some sort of fighting, and that was the opposite of the problem in this case. Ciaran's now-ex Aedan couldn't even be bothered to speak up about what he might or might not want, and utterly abandoned the three children he had been the one to insist they adopt. Amata's gut reaction was to conspire the man's gruesome murder with Ciaran's former sister-in-law Siobhan, but he put a rather strict kibosh on that, much to her annoyance. Instead she chose to focus her efforts on getting Ciaran over the heartache. She didn't have much luck on that front, but after a while he at least stopped wallowing so much, which was something, she supposed.
xxx»» Meanwhile, Grayson ended up the guardian of a cousin much younger than himself when the boy's parents died in an auto accident. Grayson's parents foisted the child on Grayson, using his being magical like their son was as an excuse, in an attempt to teach him some level of responsibility. Personally, Amata thought that was a 'too little, too late' sort of situation and that they should hardly be making a big deal out of his obliviousness and forgetfulness when they were the ones who'd failed to train him out of those traits as a child. But, she liked Joel well enough, and reasoned that she could pick up whatever slack Grayson left. That plan got her mental gears turning regarding her relationship, of course, and she began debating if it was wise to ask Grayson to move in with her. Previous attempts at cohabitation with boyfriends had ended in disaster, leaving her rather terrified of the concept. It took her getting drunk at a wedding to actually ask him. He agreed, and one quick remodel of her cottage later, he and Joel moved in.
xxx»» The departure of the Headmaster at Hogwarts resulted in the Gryffindor Head of House, also the Deputy Headmaster, being promoted to Headmaster. His former position was offered to Amata, who took it with no small amount of trepidation. Her reluctance only seemed to be justified when the second she was in charge (or so it seemed to her), suddenly she was up to her ears in trouble makers, not the least of which included several students getting caught drinking underage, and a seemingly year-wide excursion into the Forbidden Forest, of all places. Amata has since struggled somewhat with maintaining a reasonably likeable status among her students, but still being strict enough to keep them from getting any ideas. Apparently she managed to do her job well enough, though, since she was chosen to fill the Deputy Headmistress position when Professor Throne left the school. It was offered to Angel first, due to seniority, but he turned the position down, much to her annoyance. Though, Jason Hill being promoted to Slytherin Head of House once Professor Goldwind left as well was almost funny enough to make up for it. Plus, his promotion meant that she could rest easy knowing at least she wasn't the worst Head of House her students could have.

As a result, she grew up with little to no structure, and lacks a bit of control over it. She is easily distracted, either by visions or anything that catches her eye.

xxx»» When her mind is working properly and when she applies herself, Drusilla can be quite smart. She's gotten very used to having to muddle through a lot of information, and so recalling things she's learned comes easily to her. This was not always the case, hence her poor grades in history lessons while in school. But she's improved greatly since.

xxx»» If asked to describe the Divination professor, most people's go to word would likely be mad, crazy, something to that effect. Even though her grip on the present has improved significantly, she can still come off as a bit batty. She has a tendency to ramble, her attention drifts when she's talking, and she oven speaks in riddles. As a result, she can come across as being more than a bit off her rocker.

xxx»» Drusilla has never had a lot of people she could rely on; as a result, when she finds someone she can trust, someone who is there for her, being there for them in return becomes incredibly important to her. She would do anything for someone she considered a friend, even at the expense of her own well-being. Friendship is a rare thing in her life, and so it is of the utmost importance.
PLAYFUL
xxx»» Sometimes it's hard to tell, but Drusilla is a very playful person. She enjoys any light-hearted distraction from her visions, be it a simple conversation or a silly game. While she isn't always quick enough to properly show off her wit, she can sometimes surprise people with a snip at them, though it's always in fun. She also enjoys games of any sort, provided they require two people to play.

xxx»» Her lack of social graces have made it so that Drusilla rarely filters herself when speaking; on occasion, this can mean that she rambles on nonsensically for ages, and other times it means that she is completely and even brutally honest with people. She has a habit of putting her foot in her mouth, and doesn't hold polite conversations very well. If she hears another person offer a polite lie, she'll often correct them, not realizing that it was made for propriety's sake.

xxx»» Most of Drusilla's early years are a blur to her; her gift of the Second Sight came early, passed onto her from her father, and she spent the majority of her childhood paying closer attention to the visions than what was happening around her, finding them fascinating. She unnerved her mother as a child, and was often kept away from other people as if she were a dirty family secret. This only grew worse when, for a full week when she was eight, she desperately clung to her father whenever he was home, insisting that he had to stay with her always, that he couldn't leave. This behavior continued until, that Sunday, her father was killed in a tragic accident. After this, her mother actively avoided her daughter whenever possible, which left the child to raise herself. As a result, she was always quite addled, and had little to no concept of how to behave properly and almost no control over her ability to See.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» School provided Drusilla with something she had never had before; structure. She had a set schedule of lessons to attend, times to eat, things to do and places to be. In this new environment, she flourished, gaining a fair bit of the lucidity that she had lacked as a child. While her grades were hardly exemplary, particularly for a Ravenclaw, she was proud of herself simply for passing. By her later years in school, she rarely if ever missed a lesson, which she considered to be quite an accomplishment.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» After her graduation, Drusilla thought it would be nice to do something with her life, but her mother, still disturbed by her daughter, insisted that she remain home with her, to 'care for her.' Their family, previously quite wealthy, had been bled dry by her grandparents before she'd ever been born, and in her later years, Juliana could not afford to hire anyone to care for her. The duty then fell to Drusilla, who tried her best but was always quite unhappy. When her mother passed away, Drusilla had lost a lot of the sanity she'd gained in school. However, she was able to pull it together well enough to be hired as the professor of Divination at Hogwarts. Returning to the school and its strict schedules of meals and lessons helped her significantly, though not so much as it did in her years attending. Having only her own lessons to worry about meant that she had less of her schedule filled with school, and left her to wander.
xxx»» Teaching at Hogwarts did bring Dru something she'd not had much of before in her life, friends. She met and got on well with many of her fellow professors, though she did have a tendency to develop a very strong crush on any who paid significant attention to her. A distinct lack of previous relationships and overabundance of rejection led her to mostly keep her feelings to herself. She counted herself fortunate that for once, her reputation as a madwoman helped in that regard; when she made a slip, people were easy to write it off as her being, well, mad. She did eventually develop a romantic relationship with Kolton Viner, but it ran its course and petered off rather unspectacularly. It wouldn't be so bad, except she began to worry about how awkward things would be if she ran into him. He seemed to've made himself scarce, though, for what reason she didn't know, and didn't care to ask.

CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Pamela never knew her biological parents; her birth mother was only 16, and decided to give her up for adoption. A friend of a friend of a friend put her in touch with Allison and Cosette Gautreaux, a recently married couple looking to adopt. Cosette, a Frenchwoman working as a baker, was the breadwinner for the family, while Allison stayed home with their daughter. Not long after, Cosette saved enough money to open her own bakery. Pamela was raised in the kitchen, developing a strong sweet tooth and a love of cooking. But, she was also an adventurous child, and loved to play make-believe with her mothers. Her childhood was simple and happy. Around when she was 8, Pamela discovered that she had a special gift; it started with making flowers bloom, and escalated from there. Pam became convinced that both she and her friend Aster, who had discovered a similar talent, were in fact X-Men. When she received her Hogwarts letter in the mail, she wasn't sure if she should be disappointed, or excited. She settled on excited, thinking that, if nothing else, going to a magical school and learning to do magic sounded incredibly exciting.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxxFIRST YEAR »» Pam's first year at Hogwarts was mostly spent marveling at magic. She enjoyed all her lessons immensely, and found living in the castle to be an amazing adventure. By the end of the year, her naturally adventurous spirit had begun concocting a plan, one she would discuss with Aster the following Summer. At the end of the year, however, Hogsmeade Village was attacked by a group of masked figures, who murdered and tortured the students and residents. Luckily, she and Aster were able to get onto the train in time to escape unharmed, but both swore they would never tell their parents what had happened, fearing that they wouldn't be allowed to return to the school.
xxxSECOND YEAR »» Most of second year was focused on planning for the adventure she and Aster had decided to embark on; the two girls simply couldn't resist the allure of the so-called Forbidden Forest. Originally it had been meant to be just the two of them, and then later she thought to invite a couple other friends. But, the walls have ears, and the girls found themselves in the forest with far too many people. They did at least manage to see a unicorn, and encountered a ghost named Miriam, who threatened to go to the school and inform the Headmaster of their whereabouts if they didn't return immediately. The woman's threat was moot, however, as their absence had already been noted. The group was found, and they each received detention for the remainder of the year, as well as having a good many house points docked. In addition, when she returned home, Pam was informed that she was grounded, could not have any sweets from the bakery for the duration of the Summer, and the usual trip to France to visit her Maman's family would be skipped. Still, she thinks it was worth it. Her only regret was that she didn't get to spend much time with Aster.
xxxTHIRD YEAR »» Following her excursion into the forest, Pam had what was absolutely the worst Summer ever. Not getting to visit Maman's family was bad enough, but the worst part was not getting to see Aster hardly at all, which drove her insane. They had been inseparable since they were eight, after all. She was quite happy to return to school and once again see her best friend every day. The year was largely uneventful, the most notable thing being the Valentine's Dance, which wasn't particularly interesting. She had fun, obviously, but nothing particularly exciting happened. She and Aster spent most of the ball gossiping about their classmates and poking fun at some of the people's dancing or clothes.
xxxFOURTH YEAR »» What was supposed to've been a normal sleepover with her best friend over the Summer Holiday was somewhat complicated by Pam's realization partway through the night that she was not only attracted to girls (something she'd already known), she was specifically attracted to Aster. Pam spent most of her remaining break trying to determine how to handle the situation, eventually settling on confessing her attraction and praying that Aster reciprocated. Thankfully, the Gryffindor girl felt the same way, and the two began dating, much to Pam's delight. The school year passed mostly uneventfully for the two girls, whose relationship didn't seem to change at all from how it had been before, aside from the sudden snogging.
xxxFIFTH YEAR »» Fifth year was, supposedly, crunch time. Pam, whose future plans involved working in a bakery like her Maman, didn't really worry overmuch about her exam scores, but rather watched as her classmates all seemed to lose their minds studying. She tried to be supportive and helpful where she could, but being a bit of an airhead and not inclined to studying, she wasn't much help. The only truly notable thing to occur was when she was approached by Lorelei, a Slytherin in her year, to help with a scheme to get Lori's best friend Gia to hook up with Gia's other best friend Carver. Pam wasn't sure why Lori asked her for help, but she was more than willing to do it. For one, she was a horrible gossip, and nosy as all get out; she knew that Carver and Gia had a serious thing for each other, you'd have to be blind not to've noticed it. Two, it meant she got to spend time with Lori, which was fine by her, because it meant she could needle the girl regarding what was going on between her and Zeph, which was obviously of interest to Pam. What was gleaned from the Slytherin's blushing and non-answering of simple questions was more than enough for Pam to go on, and she confronted Zeph about confronting Lori, because to her mind, they both obviously had a thing for each other, too. Thus far, her efforts appear to've been in vain, but she's not one to throw in the towel so easily.
xxxSIXTH YEAR »» Pam's sixth year was largely uneventful. She felt free as a bird after having dropped a good chunk of her courses, but of course a lot of her friends hadn't done so. She spent most of her free time in the kitchens, learning from the House-Elves, and finding random places around the grounds to paint or draw. Of course, this was all more or less broken up with her usual snooping around in Zeph's love life. At the feast at the start of the year, she and Aster had confronted Lori about choosing between him and Tristan, only to have the Slytherin girl up and leave to avoid the question (typical). Zeph followed, and after that Pam swore up and down on her great grandmother's grave that the pair were sneaking around behind everyone's backs. Eventually, the pair confessed that they'd been official (at least to each other) since the first night back, but had been hiding it from everyone just to see how long it took them to notice. Pam claims she knew all along, but Lori insists it doesn't count since she wasn't certain and had no proof.
xxxSEVENTH YEAR »» With most of her classmates trapped in their lessons and studying, Pam was left to her own devices all year. Again, she spent most of it in the kitchens, learning old recipes from the House-Elves, who had some very interesting techniques on how to do things that she's still trying to work out how to replicate with a wand. Since she wasn't planning on getting any sort of Official Job with the ministry or anything like that, she wasn't overly worried about her grades, which was probably not the wisest decision, but she refuses to regret it.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Following graduation, Pam's first priority was to get a job and start saving money, which was surprisingly mature of her. Her mothers were shocked, particularly when Pam turned down an offer to be officially hired in her Maman's bakery. She said she wanted to go out into the world and prove herself, not sit at home and play at being an adult by working for her parents. Her mothers were stunned, but proud. Pam was hired on as an assistant/in-training pastry chef at a London coffeeshop, though she's fairly certain her superior, Dominique Hallwyd, knows very well that the 'in-training' portion is a formality.
xxx»» Things at work went quite swimmingly, and eventually Pam had put together enough savings that she and Aster were able to move in together. She proposed to Aster on their move-in day, and the pair married in the Spring of 2040. Meanwhile at the bakery, she'd been long since her 'apprenticeship' and was given the title of pastry chef.

CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Colin was the only successful attempt by his biological parents to have a child. His mother Teresa had been sick much of her life, and her health was never the best. Her husband tried many times to convince her to adopt instead, but she wouldn't budge. When they conceived Colin, he finally got her to agree that, if this pregnancy failed, they would look into alternatives. She was able to carry her son to term, but tragically died giving birth to him. Allen spent the first year of his son's life in a deep depression, having to rely on the help of a kind neighbor to help him care for Colin. Eventually, the neighbor, Katherine, and Allen developed a closer relationship, eventually dating and then marrying before Colin was four. Colin, having never known his biological mother, did not know that Katherine was only his stepmother until he was much older. Meanwhile, his father worked an extra job in order to help put his second wife through school, and she became an engineer with a focus on robotics. Colin was always fascinated by his mother's occupation, and developed her sense of wonder and inventiveness. When he was six, however, Kate had to stop bringing her work home with her, because every once in a while, something would short out the wiring. Eventually she realized this only happened when she let Colin sit in on her working, and only when he began to get very excited about it. One night, her suspicions were confirmed when, while attempting to fix a broken appliance, as he watched on in wonder, the lights flickered, and then, upon his excitement at its working again, suddenly the entire home's power went out. It wasn't until they received his Hogwarts letter and their son's status as a wizard was revealed that they understood what had been happening. Kate, for her part, was skeptical at first, but when presented with proof, she readily accepted her son's magical gifts.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxxFIRST YEAR »» Colin's first year wasn't particularly eventful from an outside perspective, but he certainly didn't feel that way. Learning about magic was incredibly exciting, and he made a lot of friends. He was very excited to attend the Valentine's Ball, if only because it was a masquerade, which he probably found a lot more interesting than some of his classmates.
xxxSECOND YEAR »» Over the Summer, Colin attended a party hosted at Aimee's house, one which he was pretty excited to be invited to, at least until he got there. He felt rather like he was ignored by his friends, except Brandon, which left him wondering how much they really liked him. His second year of school got off to an uncomfortable start as well. Firstly, the train compartment he had settled in was quickly packed with far too many people, some of them apparently younger friends of Caty's who were just starting school. Colin didn't have anything against them, but he didn't like how crowded it was. Aimee was having similar difficulties, and the two of them ended up excusing themselves and sitting with Leon, which Colin felt guilty about since he knew the Slytherin didn't want to be bothered. Then, at the school, Aimee ended up having a panic attack at the feast, which was made worse when the person who triggered it took it upon themselves to try and 'help', despite clearly not knowing how to do so. The rest of the year was rather boring, truth be told, but he found himself feeling more or less isolated from his friends as it went on.
xxxTHIRD YEAR »» The feeling of isolation didn't improve over the holiday before third year, seeing as he heard nothing from any of his friends. Logically he knew it was just as much his fault as theirs, since he could've written them, but given he was the introverted one, he thought that it made little sense for them to expect him to initiate conversation. When he arrived at the station to go to school, he ran into Nike, who he got along well enough with but had never been sure if he was friends with per se. They were quickly joined by Di, which would have thrilled him, if not for the fact that she was accompanied by Mordred, an older boy she was friends with. Colin had always gotten the distinct impression that Mordred didn't like him, and the feeling only intensified over the awkward train ride. By the time they were at Hogsmeade Station, he was desperate to get away from the other boy, and relieved to run into Brandon and the Umber twins. The remainder of that year was a blur of depression, loneliness, and worrying about Aimee, who had taken to missing classes and always looked upset about something. He had suspicions that it was related to her boyfriend, but given that he apparently wasn't very close to her, he supposed he had no room to say anything. He later regretted that when he came across her boyfriend in the halls, lying unconscious on the ground, beaten seemingly half to death, with a very distraught Leon nearby, blood on the boy's knuckles. It was fairly obvious what had happened, and Colin, with the help of Nike who appeared soon after, helped get both boys to the Hospital wing. After that, Leon seemed to hover around him for the remainder of the year, which he found rather odd, but tried not to think too hard on.
xxxFOURTH YEAR »» His fourth year summer was slightly better than previous years, in that he actually got up the nerve to ask a friend to come over to his home. He invited Kiley over to hang out, and ended up introducing her to anime. Much to his delight, she got rather into the whole thing, and he ended up lending her some books from his manga collection to read. Of course, his comfort levels with her made it rather upsetting when he couldn't find her at the train station, nor anyone else in his friend circle to sit with that wouldn't make him upset. He wasn't having the best morning that day, and so inviting any sort of negativity seemed like a bad idea, so he elected to sit alone. This plan didn't work out so well, since Brandon opted to join him and spend a good chunk of the train ride complaining about their friends, apparently spurned on by an interaction with Mordred and Di, which didn't surprise Colin in the least. Things weren't improved by Di joining him at the Ravenclaw table at school and apologizing for being a bad friend, something which made him feel guilty, since he didn't think she'd been a bad friend at all, and that he was just over sensitive. She tried to reassure him, and was mostly successful, but his usual anxieties persisted, subdued but still present.
xxxFIFTH YEAR »» Colin's fifth year was entirely devoted to studying. He did spend time with his friends where he could, trying to keep his anxieties and insecurities from getting the better of him, but for the most part, he had his nose stuck in a book. It was probably mostly unnecessary, since he was a decent student, but he didn't want to run the risk of hubris costing him a good grade. Even making an EE where he knew he could've gotten an O would've been upsetting for him.
xxxSIXTH YEAR »» Colin had an eventful Summer, to say the least. It seemed to come out of no where, at least to him. He was hanging out with Brandon at the Gryffindor's house when they were suddenly attacked by a madman. The events are somewhat hazy in Colin's recollection, he mostly remembers the facts. One; Brandon's parents died. Two; he lost an arm. Of course, his personal opinion was that the death of his best friend's parents should've been everyone's focus, but it seemed to him like everyone was freaking out about his lost appendage. He was made to go to therapy for the remainder of the Summer, despite it being unnecessary, as far as he was concerned. Particularly since his parents sent him to a muggle therapist, thereby making it impossible for Colin to even talk about what'd actually happened. His mother also wasted no time putting her degree to use to design him a prosthetic that would function like a real arm, and while he loved it, he had to point out that it wouldn't work while he was at school. His parents worked with some magical connections Colin had and were able to find a metal charmer who provided him with an enchanted arm. To be honest, he's not overly concerned with the loss of his limb, despite what people seem to think. The remainder of the year was blissfully uneventful, for which he was eternally grateful, since he needed to focus on studying for his NEWT exams the next year.
xxxSEVENTH YEAR »» Colin's final year was spent focusing entirely on his studies so that once he'd graduated, he'd have both the knowledge and the NEWT scores to back him in the wizarding world. He spent what little free time he allotted himself continuing to work on his various projects, mostly on his clockwork owl. This project in particular made him a new friend; while tinkering with the owl at The Three Broomsticks, Shinobu Yamazaki, nephew to the owners, noticed him messing with it and struck up a conversation. Colin enjoyed having someone to discuss robotics with, and found himself frequenting the establishment more often so that he could talk to Shinobu.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Colin's parents wanted him to be able to get his future planned out before he tried to set out on his own. As such, they talked him into remaining home with them and working on his designs and projects, offering advice where they could and encouraging him to figure out what exactly he was doing before he attempted to make a real living out of it. He feels a bit odd, still being home with his parents, but sees the logic in their request. Besides that, he's quite happy not to have to worry about much other than making everything work the way it's supposed to.

She's very animated, gesturing wildly with her hands when she speaks, and her words come out a million miles an hour. Overall, she's a very exhausting person to be around, but fun, so it's mostly worth it.

xxx»» If you've ever seen a show on the telly that started with a 'don't try this at home' disclaimer, there's a roughly 50% chance Mercy has in fact tried this at home. If she hasn't, it's probably because she lacked the supplies to pull it off. Overall, she'll try anything once, no matter how ridiculous or dangerous or scary it might be. She likes challenges, and especially challenges that are likely to give her eldest sister a heart attack. Her adventurous spirit extends into most any area of her life, she's not one to let fear hold her back. There are exceptions, of course, but she's only human.
DEVIOUS
xxx»» Growing up as the spoiled baby of her family, Merc got very good at manipulating her various family members into getting her way. She was always quite content to lie through her teeth, quite convincingly, and tell her Mum 'Da said I could do it' and tell her Da 'I asked you while you were watching the game, don't you remember?' when he questioned the truth of that. Her elder sisters could be harder to lie to, because they were generally naturally suspicious of her, but save instances where she nearly got herself killed, they were also more likely to pretend to believe the lie and let it go. She likes playing everyone against each other. She tries to avoid doing anything that will cause any real trouble among her family, particularly her parents, but sometimes the temptation is too difficult to resist.
IMMATURE
xxx»» Mercy is, at her heart, a child. She's easy to amuse, and quick to make every single joke you read on the internet as if she's the genius that came up with it. She doesn't have a wealth of patience, possessing a remarkably short attention span and absolutely no attention to detail. She doesn't really understand boundaries very well, except those she sets for herself, and tends to not think her actions through until it's too late. She very much lacks the capacity to see the consequences of her actions until she's presented with them.
TENACIOUS
xxx»» Mercy's motto in the face of failure has always been 'fail better.' She doesn't give up on things, no matter how many times she messes it up. Basically the only way to get her to study is to tell her she can't pass a class, which will result in her spending hours pouring over books and practicing to prove you wrong. She will tackle any challenge with a stubborn refusal to do anything but succeed. She will only relent when whatever she's attempting is proven to be literally impossible, and since the advent of magic in her life, convincing her of such has become difficult.
INATTENTIVE
xxx»» Mercy has absolutely no attention span, at least for anything she doesn't find engaging enough. She'll follow along with her games or her telly programs well enough, as long as they're exciting with a lot of explosions. She's absolutely the person who complains about movies when they're 'too talky', which is code for 'not 90% explosions and car chases'. Her inability to focus on one thing for very long even continues on into her conversation skills, in that she will talk a lot, very rapidly, and oftentimes leave her partner wondering how they got from point A to point B. It's especially bad when her mind goes off on a random tangent and she changes subjects literally mid-sentence.

Their eldest daughter, Patience, was something of an accident their first year at Uni, conceived only a month into their relationship. The pair agreed to continue seeing one another, and also to parent their child together, but to try and keep the two entirely separate, an endeavor which unsurprisingly failed rather quickly. They ended up marrying within a week of Patience's birth, and chose her name 'ironically' due to their supposed lack. Their second daughter Hope was born three years later, and the couple separated shortly after her birth, finding that they fought more than they did anything else. They kept in touch so that they would both be in the girl's lives, and found eight years later that they were getting along better than ever before. They rekindled their relationship, and ended up celebrating the birth of their youngest roughly nine months after their 'first' date. Mercy, being significantly younger than Hope and Patience, was spoiled relentlessly by all, and got away with nearly anything. Her eldest sister was always something of a flower child, and very difficult to anger or frustrate, making her name surprisingly apt. Hope, meanwhile, was quite introverted and generally kept to herself, but had a soft spot for 'her baby.' When Mercy received her Hogwarts letter, the entire family was quite shocked, though it lasted all of two seconds before they decided it made perfect sense and explained a lot of oddness about the girl.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Mercy, who was always accustomed to being the odd one, saw no need for this fact of her life to change now that she was at a magic school. As such, she set out very quickly to establish a reputation of sorts as being, well, odd. She spent her early years focusing on making friends and figuring out where exactly she fit in as far as the magical world went. Once she felt she'd found a niche, she began focusing on her future more, though it was difficult to tell if you looked at her grades. Meanwhile, she found herself orbiting the social circle of a friend-of-a-friend who'd been through Some Serious Shite(tm), and took it upon herself to meddle. Then, upon realizing she was in way over her head, she took it upon herself to convince other, more informed people to meddle while she watched from the sidelines. That plan didn't go over so well, as her best friend's girlfriend Tiernan saw fit to essentially force her to get to know Glynn better and help him herself in the process. There were a few bumps here or there, but eventually they grew fairly close and Merc felt like she was actually contributing to his mental betterment, as opposed to being a giant nuisance, which is generally what she felt like. Her best friend Alby graduated a year ahead of her, and set out to start the process of opening a business that she would share with him, Mythical Missile Fireworks. The plan was that he would cover the business aspect, and she would be the creative power behind the products. Alby also got married that same year, and Merc stood in at the wedding as his Best Man (he attempted to call her 'Best Woman', but she wasn't having it).
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Merc graduated school in 2041, not altogether impressed with her own grades but not overly worried about them nonetheless. She saw no reason to think her business venture with Alby would fail, and thus didn't see any reason to be worried over her exam scores.

Unless he's faced with some grave injustice, he's unlikely to lose his temper. He feels deeply, but keeps his emotions in check. He likes to play mediator when people argue, only because he knows that for the most part, he can keep a level head, and hopefully help calm down whoever is involved. He's not particular about much of anything, be it movies or games or food. If friends want to do something, he's usually up for it, no matter what it is. He has his own preferences, but for the most part he's just as happy to do what someone else wants to do.

xxx»» Nath prides himself on keeping a level head at all times; he likes to think about things from a logical perspective, rather than letting his emotions or biases get in the way. He's somewhat prone to playing the Devil's Advocate, not so much to change another person's mind, but to try and help them understand the other side. Rarely, if ever, is any one person absolutely in the right or wrong of any given situation, and that understanding helps him navigate through his life. He's more than willing to hear an argument against him, and will consider what is being said before making judgements. Of course, his rationality fails at times, and he's often blind to it, because from his perspective, he always considers logic before making decisions, so therefore he can't be wrong.

xxx»» For the most part, Nathaniel is a very quiet person. He prefers to listen in, and only speak when he has a point to make. But, once you get him on the topic of something he's interested in, his entire persona changes. He becomes exceptionally enthusiastic, and will prattle on and on about his interests. He consumes fandom content like a vacuum, delighting at arts of his favorite characters, song parodies, fan theories, you name it. He's easy to sway into liking most things, even if he plays the part of the critic at times, and once he's in, he's in for the long haul. Trends come and go, but he refuses to let go of anything he loves. He can be distracted by something new, but he will always hold onto his old interests, even if they're not at the forefront of his mind.

He can come across to a stranger as being aloof, because he doesn't open up with others until he's comfortable with them. He thinks most people are generally decent enough, but that doesn't mean he's willing to run the risk of being hurt if someone has an exceptionally bad day and lashes out against him. He knows that being a good person doesn't mean you're perfect, and wants to know he can trust people and that they're like-minded before he lets them get to know him. He sometimes has difficulty in this regard, since not many people are willing to open up to someone who never shares about themselves. He's never been particularly popular as a result. For the most part, he doesn't mind, though sometimes he does get lonely.

xxx»» Nath doesn't let go of things, he doesn't waffle, he doesn't waver. Part of the benefit of holding himself back initially is that by the time he commits, he knows he can commit fully and safely without much fear of the consequences. He doesn't give his trust or loyalty without it being earned, and so he feels confident that he's made a good investment. Once he's made that investment, be it in a person, a project, an event, whatever, he's not going to back out. He believes in seeing things through to the end. Getting him to drop an obviously doomed commitment is all but impossible. He can be swayed with facts and figures, but you'd better be prepared to present them, possibly in a power point. If the issue is one of emotions, appealing to his logical side can be either helpful, or make him dig his heels in deeper, depending on how it's framed.

xxx»» Nath believes firmly that the most important thing in life is to always be good to one another. He was raised that your life should be about making the lives of everyone around you better (though not to your own detriment). He smiles at strangers when they seem down, he compliments people as much as he can, any little thing he can do to make another person's day even a little better. When it comes to his friends and families, he loves nothing more than turning a bad day good, except maybe making a good day better (because he'd never wish for his loved ones to have a bad day).

xxx»» Nathaniel's parents had something of a complicated relationship. They loved each other, or so they claim, but that didn't stop them from fighting constantly. Most of his earliest memories are of his parents yelling at one another in their bedroom, either unknowing or uncaring of the fact that he could hear them down the hall. He doesn't really remember them very well, aside from the fighting. He has vague memories of picnics and going to the zoo, of his mother being very pretty when she smiled, of the way his father's hair was greying at the temples. But, if asked, he'd have to say they were utter strangers to him.
xxx»» When he was four, things came to a head; he doesn't know what happened, really. There was yelling, like there always was, and some banging and crashing, furniture being shoved and personal items being thrown. Eventually, screaming, and crying. Apparently, it wasn't just loud enough to hear down the hall that night. Shortly after the yelling started, there was a cop at the door, stating that there'd been a call about a domestic disturbance. Things blurred after that; Nathaniel remembers his mother answering the door, and trying very hard to hide the fact that her arm was broken. His dad, hiding in the bedroom because there was no way to cover up the blood on his face. The next thing he knew, he wasn't allowed to go home anymore. Instead, he was sent to live with his maternal grandparents. He's not really sure what happened to his parents; his grandparents wouldn't talk about it, they got very upset at the mention of it and would say he was 'too young to worry about that.'
xxx»» He was eight when his magic first showed; of course, he'd known it was possible, because his father had been magic. Unfortunately, no one told his grandparents, so they were quite surprised when their Christmas ornaments started floating as they set up the tree that year. Not remembering very much, Nathaniel couldn't tell them anything, except that his dad could do stuff like that, and had done it all the time. Unfortunately, they had no desire whatsoever to contact his father, or his father's family. They decided they'd been raising him just fine before, they'd do just fine raising him now, magic or not. It turned out to not be a very big deal, since Nath wasn't one for the emotional outbursts that often prompt accidental magic. But, they were certainly relieved when he received his Hogwarts letter and they finally got a proper explanation for everything.
SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR »» Nath had a fairly enjoyable first year of school. He found Hogwarts fascinating, and made at least one friend, which was pretty good overall. He struggled somewhat with adjusting to the magical world, but figures it'll get easier with time.

SECOND YEAR »» Nathaniel couldn't quite tell you what the highlight of his second year of schooling was. Two events stood out firmly in his mind. The first was that the school relented on a previously established rule barring theatrical productions, and allowed seventh year Hufflepuff Kiera Murdoch to found the Drama club. Nathaniel joined eagerly, even talking Theo into joining as well, and threw himself and all his knowledge into helping build the sets. The play itself wasn't amazing, given that it was only the first year and few members had an experience, but it wasn't a complete disaster and he was quite proud of himself and his fellow members when the curtains closed just before the end of the year. Earlier on, there had also been a rather exciting Halloween event, with haunted attractions and a lot of candy. He and Theo elected to walk through the maze, which was exciting but not too terribly scary.

Her life has been full of ups and downs, and the only thing that helped her get through the downs until the next up was to buckle down and work for it. She doesn't mince words, doesn't put up with laziness or irresponsibility. She believes there is a time to play and a time to work; if you can make your work into play, all the better, but work can't always be fun. That doesn't mean it doesn't have to get done.

xxx»» Cici has an open heart and an open mind. She tries to like everyone she meets, even when they make it difficult at times. For a while, she was jaded against human men because of her father, but experiences with some of her former bandmates, roadies, club employees, etc, has taught her that not everyone in the world is out there to take advantage of her. She's still wary around men, but she tries to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. If someone is rude to her, she's the first to generously assume they're having a bad day and it's not about her personally. If someone seems down, she's right there to try and perk them up, be they friend or stranger. She wants the world to be a brighter place than the one she grew up in and hid herself away from, and figures the only way to make that happen is to do it herself.

xxx»» Cici is well aware that she's moving about the world with a rather large handicap, one that many people would be more than happy to take advantage of. While she, unlike her mother, has the power to at least try to fight the compulsion to do as she's told, the act of doing so is exceptionally strenuous, and she suffers severe anxiety to the point of almost physical pain when she defies anyone. So, while she has a good many people in her life, she absolutely refuses to spend one on one time with anyone until they've proven themselves completely trustworthy. She never tells anyone the truth about her heritage, too worried that the wrong person will find out and force her into a position she doesn't want to be in.

xxx»» Cici doesn't really credit herself when it comes to her ideas, be it a song or outfit design or even the rare drawing here and there. She insists that it is nature and the universe, channeling their messages through her, using her as a proxy to tell stories and share ideas. That doesn't stop her from being struck by sudden inspiration and throwing herself whole-heartedly into writing the newest song, sketching and sewing a new costume, getting herself dirty trying to bring the vision in her head to life. She suffers greatly when she feels stuck in a rut, and craves new ideas.
WHIMSICAL
xxx»» If you didn't know her well, you wouldn't think Cici had a serious bone in her body. On the surface, she is every bit the party girl musician you'd expect her to be by looking at her. When in a safe space, with nothing important to distract her, she is prone to flights of fancy. She can be very spontaneous, and gets caught up in excitement quite easily. She thinks that the world, oftentimes, is far too serious, and everyone would benefit greatly from knowing when to lighten up. When she meets people who seem to struggle with that concept, she's more than happy to drag them along behind her as she shows them how to have fun.

xxx»» The story of Cici's early life is not a particularly fun one. Her father, a Spanish wizard who studied fae creatures, had traveled from his own home to the United Kingdom to expand his knowledge on the subject, hoping to eventually publish a book. He was somewhat sidetracked when he met Iolanthe, a beautiful creature the likes of which he'd never seen. The pair played an odd game of cat and mouse for a few months, with Rene never sure if Iolanthe wanted to be caught or not. The game came to a rather sudden halt, though, when he discovered that she was compelled to follow his commands. Rene started small, requesting that she not run away, that she talk to him. He wanted to get to know her. To take care of her. But the power went to his head, and while he was never really sure whether or not his requests were being followed out of obligation or not, most days he couldn't bring himself to care. In his mind, he cared for her, and she cared for him, so there was nothing to worry about.
xxx»» Iolanthe, for her part, wasn't exactly unwilling to be with Rene or to follow his commands, but she did find him stifling. He wanted her to live in his home, away from her forest. He wanted her to dote on him, show him affection, which she found increasingly difficult the longer she was away from her true home. She missed her family, her trees. She began to resent him, and plotted to leave when his back was turned. However, her plan hit a couple snags; for one, he was constantly catching her in the act of trying to flee, and demanding that she stay, an order she literally could not refuse. Each time he caught her only made him more paranoid, until she was constantly being watched. Eventually, she discovered she was with child, and resigned herself to her fate; she was of the forest, but her child would not be, not truly.
xxx»» Cici's birth was exciting for her father, and terrifying for her mother. Rene was thrilled to no end to have a child, a beautiful daughter he could dote on. More to the point, he was thrilled that he never had to worry about his daughter acting out against him; she would be forced to obey his commands, same as her mother, he assumed. And she did, and she was loved very much by both her parents, though her mother always seemed afraid of something. What, she had no idea, but there was an undeniable glimmer of fear in her eyes.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» When her Hogwarts letter came, Cici was unsure of how she felt. She didn't want to leave her parents behind; truthfully, some small sense that something terrible would happen was constantly at the back of her mind. But, she attended Hogwarts as expected, and found she enjoyed it very much. Sorted into Hufflepuff, she was thrilled to discover that her house was known for being skilled at Herbology. Her childhood home was in the city, and she had never been exposed to so much greenery. When she went to the greenhouses, or hovered near the edge of the forest, she felt more at home than she ever had anywhere else. She grew restless, constantly fighting the urge to run away, to leave the school behind and hide herself away in the forest forever.
xxx»» Eventually, that was exactly what she did. Cici was visited at the school by a couple of Ministry officials, who informed her that, at age sixteen, she had just become an orphan, more or less. Her mother had finally reached a breaking point, it seemed; she wanted out, any way she could get out. But, she couldn't bear to abandon her daughter with Rene, worried about what he might do without his 'wife' to order about and mistreat. So, she'd poisoned him, and run away. Cici spent the remainder of the school year terrified of what was to come; she had no home to return to. But, the forest called, and eventually she decided it was home. Shortly before the year came to an end, she vanished without a trace.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Cici didn't stop in the Forbidden Forest; it was too close, and she knew she'd be caught. Besides, her heart told her there was somewhere else to be. She doesn't really know how long she walked, but eventually she came to a place that felt right. There, she met a family of Wood Nymphs, who told her that she had her mother's smile and her beautiful voice.
xxx»» For a time, everything felt perfect. Cici was older than most of the saplings, and became a sort of big sister figure for them all. However, it soon became apparent that even if the forest felt like home, it didn't quite suit her needs. Her human side required more than the nymphs could provide, and she felt like an outsider. There was something unique about human contact that she craved, and she knew that her use of magic could be off-putting to the other nymphs. Eventually, she elected to leave, at least temporarily. She thought that, if she could manage to find a way to live half in the forest, and half among humans, she would feel centered again.
xxx»» Her reintroduction to human society brought a reintroduction to music, which she'd often called her one true love. Nymphs had music, of course, but it was nothing like what came from the human world. She began hovering about in music stores, watching humans play on the streets and in parks, and became quite enamored with the idea of playing herself. She found a flier for a band, just starting out, that needed a vocalist. She auditioned, and was happily accepted into the fold. A spark between Cici and the guitarist earned her lessons, which she found invigorating and fascinating. She was soon dabbling in all manner of musical instruments, though guitar was by far her favorite. A falling out between the other band members led to its dissolving, and Cici elected to start her own. She's not had much luck, unfortunately, having gone through more than a dozen members who've joined and dropped out, six name changes (she insists she's not doing that one again; the current name is perfect), a couple attempted genre shifts (these, she firmly stamped out; she liked her music the way she played it, thank you very much), and of course the struggle of actually finding paying gigs. Cici manages alright, working odd jobs when she has to, but she can't help but wish for a bit more stability.
xxx»» While casing a bar in Knockturn Alley to see about getting her band a gig, Cici was rather unceremoniously introduced to Austmar Eide by a meddling friend of his. She didn't mind overmuch, since she found his company enjoyable. They became friends, and eventually Austmar asked her on a date, to which she agreed. She was surprised by how much she liked him, and how comfortable she was around him. Unfortunately, her self-perseverance was reluctant to trust that things with him were as good as they seemed. The closer they got, the more she worried about what would happen if things went badly with him, or if he discovered the truth about her. He noticed something was amiss, and asked her point blank about it, telling her that she should feel free to tell him if something is on her mind. She insisted everything was fine at first, but eventually broke and confessed to him that she had trouble trusting that he wouldn't take advantage of her. They talked it out, and he was able to reassure her that he would never use her half-nymph heritage and its quirks to hurt her, or force her to do anything she didn't want to. He hadn't ever done anything to make her think he couldn't be trusted to keep his promise, even before he'd known about her secret, so she decided to trust in him and to always tell him if he said or did anything that felt off-putting.

While he knows that sneaking about places looking for hidden doors or getting into places he probably shouldn't aren't really adventures so much as they are getting up to no good, he finds it too fun to ever stop. He's gotten in more than a few tight spots with this desire to map out everything around him, the consequences of trying to find answers for his questions not really registering until it's far too late.

xxx»» So far, Bas isn't all that thrilled about being a teenager. In fact, he'd rather like for the whole thing to be over. Yesterday, preferably. He's not really afraid of the changes he's undergoing, but they're pretty damn annoying. He's never really understood girls, but he swears that the second he hit age thirteen they somehow managed to get a thousand times more confusing. He's hyper-aware of the way his voice cracks when he speaks, and prays regularly for the growth spurt he's hoping for to happen soon. He feels like the entire universe is out to get him, and can't wait for it to find newer, shinier teenagers to screw around with once he gets older.

xxx»» Sitting still is not one of Sebastian's strong suits. In fact, he's rather terrible at it. If he can get through a day without exploding from the sheer force it takes to stay in his seat during lessons, he feels like he's earned something. When he's free, he prefers to keep his body moving. He's not one to shy away from reading or watching the telly, but when he does so, his hands are always active, on a project of some kind. Going to the cinema is an exercise in torture since he's expected to just sit and watch the film. He's not even still when he sleeps, tossing and turning all night, like a dog that's dreaming about chasing a stick.

xxx»» Sebastian know what he likes, he know what he wants, he knows what makes him happy, and he is reluctant to engage in anything that is not one of those things. While not as bad as he was as a child, he still has trouble getting involved or paying attention to things that he doesn't find fun or interesting. He is also very set in his preferences, and if something doesn't catch his attention immediately, it can be hard to talk him into giving it a try. While he can admit when he's wrong, he often does so with a lot of exasperation.

xxx»» With the troubles his family has had in the past, Sebastian has developed a very strong protective streak. He's very loyal to the people he cares about, and would do absolutely anything for them. He doesn't take well to anything that threatens to hurt his friends and family, and can't stand the thought of having them taken away from him.

CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Sebastian is the second biological child of the Blythe family, born over Winter Break of his sister's second year at Hogwarts. When he was first born, his family was fairly small, but since then it had gotten substantially bigger. He remembers that he woke up one morning and suddenly there were four more people at the breakfast table, a woman who looked like mommy, two girls close to his sister's age, and a baby. He got very close to them all and became very attached. Then, one night, Victoria and Melody went for a walk and never came back. Now he's very concerned with his family disappearing. He worries about them constantly and is incredibly clingy. He had a lot of difficulty with his sisters being away at school in the following years, but grew to accept it, provided they wrote him often (even though he couldn't read the letters). He was overjoyed with Adalaide and Michelle graduated from school because it meant, to him, that they would be home all the time. Unfortunately, Michelle did not remain home for very long, leaving for a long time. His father told him that she was fine, but Sebastian worried. Not long after that, Adalaide moved out of the family's home, which agitated the child, but she was living with her boyfriend Chris, who Sebastian is quite fond of, and visited often, so he accepted it, albeit stubbornly. Not long after, Michelle returned home, and the next day his parents went out and returned with his sister Melody in tow, which thrilled him to no end. Several months later, he was told that Adalaide was going to have a baby, and that he would be an uncle, which confused him greatly since he was only six and children were not uncles. He was even more surprised when his sister actually had two babies.
xxx»» Over the next few years, he was happy to have his youngest sister home, though the fact that Michelle vanished as quickly as she'd returned became something of a sore spot with the boy, to the point where he generally pretends that she doesn't exist. Through his sister's marriage and friend circle, he managed to befriend two other children his own age, Balder Borson and Caty Blake, who he became very close friends with. The three became practically inseparable until Caty, being older than the boys, went away to school the year before them. Meanwhile, Bastian was enlisted to help convince Balder's parents to allow him to attend Hogwarts rather than Durmstrang, their own alma mater, a task he took to an extreme due to having severe separation anxiety.
SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR »» Sebastian's first year wasn't quite what he expected it to be. What he'd been expecting was that, reunited once again, he and Caty and Balder would spend every waking moment of free time exploring the castle from top to bottom and learning all of it's secrets. But, Caty had new friends, who she spent far more time with than she did with the two boys, at least in Sebastian's mind. But, he compensated by making new friends, and tried not to let himself focus on the feeling that he'd been abandoned, and focusing on Quidditch. He'd tried out for the house team, and gotten a reserve spot as a chaser, which he was pretty proud of since he was only a first year.

SECOND YEAR »» Second year was decent enough, if uneventful. He did join dueling club alongside Balder and Caty, which was fun. He also tried out for the Quidditch team, and was made a reserve chaser again. He would've liked to make the main team, but he knew it would have to wait until he was more experienced. Unfortunately, there was a little drama at tryouts, because Aleah had shown up to try out. Sebastian had helped her figure out a broom and harness over the holiday, figuring that if she said she could play, she could play, but he found himself regretting the decision when she got hurt in tryouts. Maybe it shouldn't have bothered him so much, since lots of people get hurt playing Quidditch, but given her condition, he found himself worrying about her well-being. She wasn't pleased when she didn't make the team, and Bas felt awkward about the whole thing. He tried to avoid the subject with her from then on.

THIRD YEAR »» Unfortunately, third year's notable event was much the same as the previous year's. Except, Joel didn't even let Aleah tryout, he told her flat out when she showed up at the pitch that she couldn't be on the team. She got pretty angry over it, and told the captain off before storming off of the pitch. That also happened to be the first year Sebastian made first string, which only doubled how torn and awkward he felt about Quidditch and Aleah. Again, he mostly avoided the subject. Other than that, nothing of note really happened.

FOURTH YEAR »» Sebastian's fourth year was odd, to say the least. Balder was concerned about something weird going on with a cousin he hadn't known he had until the previous year, and was distracted by it the whole year. Sebastian meanwhile was trying to focus himself mostly on Quidditch, because he wasn't particularly pleased with his performance on the pitch. Given that he'd decided he enjoyed the sport enough to want to go pro, he had to step up his game. The worries over the matter resulted in him pouring over a book his sister had bought him in the Common Room. Which wouldn't have been a big deal, except Aleah happened to approach while he was reading and question him about it. He was expecting her to get upset with him, but instead she told him that she'd gotten over the Quidditch drama ages ago, and simply 'forgot to tell him.' He was a little skeptical, but took her word for it. If it meant he didn't have to watch his words around her anymore, he was fine with that.
FIFTH YEAR »» This year's drama started on the train ride home. Upon arriving at King's Cross, Sebastian found Balder looking out of sorts, and his best friend told him he'd confronted Glynn about the boy's issues, only to discover that his Uncle Roald was apparently not only abusive, but a murderer. The two concocted a plot to save Glynn from the man, but as would be expected, things didn't go as planned. Instead, they ended up starting off a chain of events that would lead to several deaths, including Balder's father. In the end, the only positive thing to come of it was that Roald ended up dead, and Glynn ended up living with family that wasn't going to torture him or try and instill prejudiced propaganda in his head. Meanwhile, Sebastian spent the rest of the Summer grounded, and the majority of his first semester back at school was an ongoing existential crisis. A few pep talks from the least likely of places (and he will never admit to Eve that she was helpful) helped, but what helped the most was the distractions. One, he had exams to study for, and as much as he felt like maybe he deserved to ruin his own life, he knew he'd be doing a disservice to others if he made it so he had to mooch off of them forever. Two... Right before the winter break, he was walking around with Aleah and she ended up under some mistletoe. At first he was freaking out, because having to kiss the friend he had a crush on that in no way returned his feelings was a pretty awkward situation to be in. But, it turned out that he was wrong about her not returning his feelings, and she snogged him, which made things worse for half a second when he totally froze up. Somehow, he managed to recover, and they talked it out and ended up officially a couple. The rest of the school year was devoted to studying and Quidditch, with breaks in between to spend time with her.
SIXTH YEAR »» This summer was much better than the last, though there was a fair bit of lingering guilt still hanging over Sebastian's head. Still, he and Aleah enjoyed an outing to the beach with their best friends, and their best friend's significant others. He finally got to meet Caty's boyfriend Finn, who he decided he liked, though he was still ready to make the guy suffer if he hurt Caty in any way. Of course, he didn't really see that happening. The rest of the Summer was fairly normal, as was the school year that followed, aside from the upset with the Quidditch team. Bas didn't know why Kim had lost her spot on the team, nor did he care. He was more annoyed about the fact that Brandon was leaving Eve in charge. Not that he didn't think she should be captain, he just wasn't looking forward to her being his captain. He got a small taste of what it would be like, and it was just as annoying as he'd feared. Still, they played a damn good season, so he couldn't complain too much.
SEVENTH YEAR »» Sebastian's final year at school was spent splitting his focus between his studies, and Quidditch practice. His impatient side wanted to skip the studying, but he had enough sense to know that he couldn't play Quidditch forever, and needed a backup plan if he didn't manage to make a professional team. His worries on the latter ended up being pointless, since he was scouted for Wales by an old classmate of Ada's. Part of him wondered if that had anything to do with it, but she had never been close to Cam so he decided that likely wasn't the case. Especially not since his performance on the pitch had been fairly impressive, if he were going to brag about it. He did well enough on his NEWTs as well, and reasoned that once his sports career was over, he'd have plenty of options on where to go next.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Sebastian was lucky skilled enough to be scouted by the captain for the Welsh International Quidditch team his final year at school. After graduation, he joined the team and started training and saving, hoping to move out of his parent's home as soon as possible, and hoping that Aleah would want to move in with him. She did, and they lived together for a couple of years before getting engaged. Unfortunately, at that point things took a turn for the worse. Aleah's little putdowns began to irk Bas, even though he tried to tell himself they were said in jest and with no real malice. But, eventually they began to fight, and then the fighting got to be too much for him to deal with. He broke off their engagement and moved out of the flat, focusing on his career to take his mind off of it.

This would be fine, except the list of things that don't attract his interest is basically a blank sheet of paper. He wants to know everything about everything, just for the sake of it. He thinks the world is an endlessly fascinating place, and intends to leave no stone unturned if he can help it.

xxx»» "Moderation" is not a word that Valerius does well with. He becomes obsessive quite easily, however discerning he is in what he covets. Material objects don't mean much to him, unless they're a book, or some kind of puzzle. If he had all the money in the world, he'd likely just sit on it and give away only as much as necessary to ensure he never had to work, so he could bury himself in his books and never come out. He would buy out every bookstore in the world, and live in a library of knowledge, a dragon with a hoard of books and scrolls and all manner of things to teach himself with.
THOUGHTFUL
xxx»» Being the oldest of three, in a family with somewhat distant parents, Valerius is used to being more of a parent than a brother. The age gap between himself and his younger brother isn't particularly large, but still, he considers himself responsible for him, and his sister as well. He's always watching them to ensure they have whatever they need. During harder times, he's gone without to make sure they didn't have to. He applies this to anyone important to him, making sure to keep track of their interests, their desires, their needs. It's all knowledge to him, and the most important knowledge, since it relates to the people he cares about.
OBSERVANT
xxx»» Valerius always has his eyes on the world. While he can get lost in his obsessions, he likes to make sure he knows what's going on around him. He has to keep watch over his siblings, after all, and needs to know how to navigate the world around him. His parents have drilled into him the importance of knowing things that can be useful later. He personally thinks anything can be useful later, under the right circumstances, so he keeps it all tucked away for if it's needed.
CONTENT
xxx»» Despite his desire to learn everything, and his obsessive personality, Valerius doesn't quite understand his parent's insistence on trying to "rise above" their current circumstances, or to "restore the family fortune," or whatever other nonsense they're peddling. So long as he has his siblings, a book to read, and a world to explore, he's happy. He doesn't see the point of having wealth, except as a means to see to the needs of his loved ones. More than that feels wasteful.
DELIBERATE
xxx»» Valerius doesn't act on impulse. He's actually quite poor at it, tending to freeze in stressful circumstances if he hasn't had time to prepare. He's very careful in his actions and thoughts, preferring to think things through before he makes a move. Getting him to make a decision can often take ages, because he feels the need to get all the information, weigh all the options, and it's a lot to consider. He can't even choose a shirt to wear without an intervention half the time.

The best way to learn, she was told, is to be open to new information, and to always keep an open mind. Kiery embraced this to its fullest, and tries to always give the benefit of the doubt when hearing something new, even if it is in direct opposition to what she already knows. Unfortunately, she tends to be quite gullible as a result, and is easily tricked into thinking some rather odd things.

xxx»» Questioning everything entails... well, questioning everything, something Kiery is more than happy to do. As a small child, she was always the one prattling off question after question, and endless series of who, what, when, why, how. She lost many a babysitter simply by driving them nuts with her boundless enthusiasm for any and everything. Now, she's more interested in conducting her own hands-on research, which often results in her nose being stuck in a book. That's the preferred scenario, anyway. There have been a fair few times her mother caught her up to some sort of nonsense because she wast testing an interesting theory. Many a household object was ruined in the process, and she very nearly poisoned her mother's familiar on a handful of occasions.
ARTISTIC
xxx»» Kiery loves to draw. She's wildly imaginative, and feels the need to put everything she imagines on paper. She's a bit of a mess, so paints and pastels were never allowed to her. She was lucky if she was permitted to use pens or markers, truth be told, and spent many an afternoon scrubbing the walls clean of that morning's mural. Her mother tries to keep her from doodling all over the flat by purchasing a seemingly infinite number of sketchbooks. Frankly, the amount of money she spends on them, and the crayons and colored pencils used on them, it's a miracle the family doesn't go bankrupt.
EASILY DISTRACTED
xxx»» Kiery's attention span leaves a lot to be desired. When your entire life is presented as a blank canvas of questions to be asked and things to explore, it's easy to lose track of what you're doing. She's forever guilty of starting one thing, then having the sudden impulse to do something else and abandoning that project. Hours later, she'll find her half-finished sketch, or a list of ingredients to a potion she wanted to brew, and have utterly no clue what it was supposed to be when she started. She claims that she's excellent at multi-tasking; in reality, she just can't stay focused on one task long enough to complete it.
QUICK-WITTED

That other people do not appreciate her puns is of no consequence. She's also very good at solving puzzles, and tends to try and make everything in her life into a puzzle, so to speak, in order to make it more interesting. xxx»» Kiery is the only child of a single mother, Hecate Hemlock, whose name was most certainly not that when she was born, her parents are quick to tell people. She was named Catherine Monahan, and by their way of thinking, should've kept that name. But, a strict religious upbringing drove Catherine to insanity, and the moment she had a bit of freedom in her life, she rebelled. During her rebellion, she discovered Wicca, found a coven, and never looked back. By the time Kiery was born, she had changed her name to honor 'The Mother of Witches', as she called her, and chose for her daughter a 'suitably witchy' name.
xxx»» Kiery's childhood was a very happy one, filled with much love from her mother. She's not sure of the identity of her father, nor is her mother, for reasons she says they'll discuss when Kiery is older. She was born almost a month early, which her mother claims was 'by the will of the gods' thanks to her birthday falling on the Winter Solstice. From her youth, she remembers having very little blood family, and very little contact with what she did have aside from her mother. Instead, she had a large 'family' of coven members. She has always considered them her true family, and happily informs people that she has several grandparents, as anyone over the age of fifty in the coven qualifies to her.
xxx»» Growing up in such an environment, the discovery of her magic was both less and more notable than for most muggleborn witches. On the one hand, magic was considered old hat to her family, and no one was surprised by it or struggled to explain the odd things that happened around her. On the other hand, they were all thrilled that she was so 'gifted' in the magical arts without training, and doted on her as a prodigy. When she got her Hogwarts letter, of course, it caused a fair bit of confusion. The Hogwarts governor who came to explain had quite the headache when he left, as a result of having to explain that Kiery was a witch, but 'no, not like that, she's a real witch, she's got real magic-'. It was a very awkward, uncomfortable conversation, in which Hecate vowed to hex the man's mouth shut if he didn't stop claiming he knew more about magic than she did. In the end, he did at least manage to convince the woman to let him take them to Diagon for Kiery's school things, by appealing to her ego. Her daughter, he said, would be special in the coven. She would get to go to a magic school. How many other children got to do that?
xxx»» Kiery, meanwhile, was utterly thrilled, though she didn't like the way the man spoke to her mother. She was somewhat offput by the notion of this school. If it's for witches, why was she the only person in her coven to attend? She's the oldest child, and none of the other adults had discovered magic when they were her age, so she eventually settled on that as an explanation. Unfortunately, this logic didn't hold up for very long.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Kiery dove headfirst into the discovery of 'real' magic, but unfortunately her coven wasn't so eager to change their perspective. The majority of them, including her mother, were offended at the notion that their magical practices were somehow lesser than those of a 'born' witch, and refused to cooperate with the laws regarding muggle awareness of magical things. As a result, Kiery's coven had her existence wiped from their memory. Guardianship was granted to the three youngest members, ranging in age from the late teens to mid-twenties, who were the only people willing to abide by magical laws. Kiery struggled with adjusting to life without the majority of her coven, who she'd known her whole life, but knew that they were the ones to blame, due to their own stubbornness. She attempted to divert her focus on her studies and extracurriculars at school, and found that, while she missed her coven, her new guardians and new friends were an excellent substitute. One friend in particular, her roommate Sybille, she eventually developed romantic feelings for. It was somewhat awkward, since Sybille was from a traditional pureblood family, and had been betrothed to a man (like, an actual man! He was practically an adult when they were first years!), but in the end the betrothal was called off and the girls confessed their feelings to one another.

If the worst happens, she's not disappointed, and if the best happens, she's pleasantly surprised.

She finds it hard to stay serious under most circumstances. If faced with anything that annoys her (which is most things), it's her go-to response. While she's always honest, if you are the kind of person who has trouble detecting sarcasm, you'd probably think she was the world's biggest liar. She often says exactly the opposite of what she means, coupled with a lot of eye rolling and an over the top tone of voice.

xxx»» Savannah Bennet was born into a fairly well off family in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was lauded for her good looks from a young age, and entered into beauty pageants all her life. At the age of 14, she made the acquaintance of Terrell Jackson, whose sister was entering the pageant scene. She found she liked the two more than she did most of the other people she knew, and grew very close to them, despite her parent's protests. When she was 16, she secretly began dating Terrell. At 18, she found out she was pregnant. Her parents wanted her to get rid of the baby, but she refused. In order to save face, they provided for her during her pregnancy, and she allowed them to do so to ensure that her baby was born healthy. But, when the child was born, her parents made a comment that 'at least the baby looks white', and she decided she wanted nothing to do with them.
»» She and Terrell vowed to do what they could on their own. His family was much more supportive of them, and helped a lot during the early years. When Kitty Mae was four, her mother decided to start entering her in pageants, thinking it would be a fun experience, since she had always enjoyed them. Kitty liked them at first, but as she grew older she got less and less interested, due in large part to the superficial attitudes of the other girls she was around. It didn't help when her younger sister was born, and was much more like her mother in temperament. She loved the pageants, and was the perfect little pageant queen.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» By the time she was a teenager, Kitty Mae couldn't stand the pageants. She found herself more interested in 'alternative' hobbies, much to her mother's displeasure. The two began butting heads around when she was 14, and never really stopped. Despite the family being very close, and very loving, Kitty could never quite manage to get along with her mother. Her father tried to keep the peace, but was quite clumsy at it. Kitty found that the only member of her family she really got along with was her aunt Leilani, her father's youngest sister. Leilani was mysterious, and not around much in her early years, but Kitty felt closer to her than any of her other relatives. Much of the mystery was solved when it was discovered that her younger sister Lizzie Marie was a witch. After being told about her sister's magic, her aunt was free to come clean to her sister-in-law and niece that she was one, as well.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Kitty's rebellious phase left her without much to do after graduation. She skipped a lot of classes, and ruined her reputation in the pageant circles, so had no grades and no connections to work with. She stayed home with her parents and tried to find jobs, but tended to get fired when she got an attitude at the wrong time. Eventually, her aunt Leilani decided to step in and try to help. She had a friend in England who owed her a favor, so she wrote to him and asked that he allow her to move into his home with her niece. Leilani thought that a change of environment, and distance from her mother, would help Kitty settle down and find herself.
xxx»» At first, the UK was weird and living with wizards was weirder, but Kitty settled into it well enough. She mostly struggled with figuring out what to do with herself, since she was at least trying not to get into trouble. She mostly ended up assisting her aunt with her work, and babysitting for Ken and Ver. On rare occasions, she had to babysit his brother's kid, too, which she didn't mind so much because the kid was a laugh in a half (not that she'd ever laugh at him to his face). Of course, she still didn't bother with getting a job, figuring that between the assisting and the babysitting, she was working. Sort of. She mostly spent her free time at the house, though eventually that got dull and she took to tagging along whenever anyone left the house so that she could get some fresh air.

xxx»» While he's not particularly 'sneaky' in the traditional sense (not being able to hear has left him unaware of how loud he is), Whitney's very good at plotting things behind people's backs, keeping secrets, and telling lies. He's hardly a delinquent, but he's not exactly an angel, either. This habit tends to get him into trouble, but it has its upsides. Namely, he's excellent at surprising people when he wants to.
RAMBUNCTIOUS
xxx»» Whitney always had a lot of energy. Seemingly too much for his body, in fact, when he was younger. He seemed physically incapable of sitting still, and doesn't quite grasp the concept of 'walking', as he'd much rather run everywhere. He likes doing anything that gets him moving. When he was about six, he started learning to skateboard, which resulted in more than a few scrapes and even a broken bone or two, but it keeps him occupied and is safer than letting him run wild. Since then he's been drawn to any- and everything that both requires movement and could potentially injure him.

xxx»» Trying to argue with Whitney is akin to arguing with a brick wall, though many people will swear up and down arguing with the wall is easier. He's exceptionally stubborn, and would rather lock himself in his room than admit to being wrong. He never quite grew out of 'accidentally' forgetting his hearing aids, and delights in using their absence as an excuse for not listening to people. He has also, on occasion, faked being blind as well so that he could ignore another person's signing. This tactic has never once fooled anybody, but that doesn't stop him from using it, even on family and his best friends.
SARCASTIC
xxx»» It seems like Whitney somehow managed to grasp the art of sarcasm before he actually learned to speak, either vocally or with sign. There are many photos of him as an infant with what can only be described as an exasperated expression, and he'd barely grasped the art of speaking in sentences before he was imitating his father's wit. When he can't manage to think of anything clever to say, he simply crosses his arms and arches his brow, giving the other person an expectant look, trying to throw them off long enough for him to come up with a comeback. It doesn't typically take long, and he's happy to trade barbs for hours if that's what it takes to come out on top.
MANIPULATIVE
xxx»» Whitney likes to get his way, and having what others view as a severe handicap is something he's more than willing to exploit. It doesn't work so well growing up, seeing as his parents are siblings are all as well, but his hearing relatives and various other people in his life have more often than not fallen victim to his using it against them at least once. He's quick to use whatever he can to worm his way into or out of things, and is an excellent actor when he needs to be.

He was the first child in his family, his younger brother Dean coming a year later, quite unexpectedly (his parents really hadn't meant to have two kids so close together). The Prescott parents were more careful after that, at least until they decided they wanted another child, around when Dean was 4. Little Jessalyn was the final addition to the family, both parents having decided they were too old, and not wanting to risk another boy. Like their parents, all three children were born Deaf, though none of them realized that this was unusual in any way for a long time.
xxx»» Being the child of an Unspeakable (their mother thought she was so funny, and was staffed in the Death Chamber on top if it) and an actor certainly made life interesting. Especially when Whitney came across an old recording of one of his father's stage shows, a Deaf production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, in which the man in question played Rocky. He was slightly disturbed, but that didn't stop him from showing the play to his siblings, much to his parent's annoyance. They were told later that was the night their parents met, which handily explained why they'd been so reticent with details about it in the past.
xxx»» Whitney was seven the first time his magic acted up; his father was fighting him to wear his hearing aid, which he has always and swears he will always hate, when the contraption flat out vanished into thin air. Whitney was thrilled, of course, since it meant he had to go without it until they could replace it. Unfortunately for him, his mother decided it would be best to keep an extra set handy after that. But, he elected to focus on the positive; namely, the fact that he had magic, and would be attending Hogwarts, which sounded amazing. As much as he enjoyed being a miniature stage hand (and extra), he was pretty sure helping his father's productions would be easier with magic. Unfortunately, he still had to wait a while four years to go to Hogwarts, which was, quite frankly, an exercise in torture.
SCHOOL YEARS
xxx»» Whitney was sorted into Slytherin upon coming to Hogwarts, and spent his school years nurturing a robust social circle and extracurriculars. His best friend, a shy Hufflepuff named Seok-Jin, became his personal project as he attempted to help the anxious boy become more assertive and confident, with mixed results. He joined his house Quidditch team, and was a member of the drama and music clubs. In third year he also joined the newly-formed language club, volunteering to assist its first year captain, with something of an ulterior motive; he figured it was a decent way to get other people to learn BSL. This also had somewhat mixed results. Still, overall his years at school were enjoyable. The most standout event was a food fight he personally started in the Great Hall to try and alleviate the grief the Lee siblings felt when their father died. Either that, or his best friend being bitten by a werewolf, but Whit doesn't count that since it's not like it happened to him.
ADULTHOOD
xxx»» Following graduation, Whit worked with his friends Cel and Maura, who had been co-captains of the school's drama club their last couple of years, to open a magically-run theater company. It took a little time, and no small amount of money, but eventually the siblings were able to purchase a smallish building and began working on finding talent. Whit was brought on officially as music director, though at first he was more the sound technician than an actual director of any sort.

xxx»» Cel can't seem to control his impulse to turn everything into a competition. He likes to joke that his theme song is "Anything you can do, I can do better", and sets out to prove it's true at every turn. If he fails at something, he's liable to devote an absurd amount of energy and time to improving at it. He then is sure to challenge whoever beat him to a rematch, and if they refuse, he convinces himself it's because they were afraid to lose to him.

xxx»» Serious isn't a trait that Cel possesses, in any form. He doesn't really know how to turn off his fun side, always cracking jokes at the most inappropriate of times. He's not good at dealing with serious situations, and tries to defuse tension by being funny, which generally doesn't work. If he's told to focus his attention better or be more mindful of something, it frequently has the opposite affect, with him focusing more on trying to make himself focus than actually focusing. Generally speaking, he caves fairly easy, writes it off as impossible, and tries to charm whoever's cross at him for his misstep.

xxx»» Cel is a fairly popular kid, and reasonably talented. He also happens to have a somewhat famous father, a fact he is more than happy to take advantage of. Though he looks more like his mother than not, he claims to've clearly inherited his father's good looks, and talents, and 'none of his nonsense', meaning the negative traits that annoy him about the man. He's somewhat full of himself, and quite happy with that fact.
CLEVER
xxx»» While he often gets mistaken for something of an airhead, and a reckless one at that, Cel is actually quite intelligent. He can come off as a bit dense due to his inability to be serious, but with the exception of exceedingly awkward situations or formal affairs, he's quite good at reading people and and situations to determine his best course of action. He's quick to note people's strengths, and to figure out how those are most helpful in a situation, which makes him a good leader. Had he the motivation, he could probably accomplish quite a lot with this talent, but instead he wastes it by using it to get his way.
RESOURCEFUL
xxx»» Cel finds himself in a lot of sticky situations due to his more adventurous and troublemaking nature, so he has gotten quite good at figuring out how to get out of them. He's quick to think of solutions to the problems he causes, generally saving his own arse by presenting the solution before anyone has a chance to really get mad. He thinks well on his feet, and is good at assessing his environment and his options.

xxx»» Cel likes to have a good time, and sometimes having a good time means a good, old-fashioned prank. He's good at sneaky around and covering his tracks, though sometimes his excitement over his plans causes him to show obvious signs of Being Up To No Good. He's quite inventive with his plans, though, so as long as he doesn't give himself away with an impossible to hide grin, they're seldom discovered beforehand.

CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Cel had an interesting childhood, to say the least. He was the unexpected result of his 'sexually liberated' (read: slutty groupie) of a mother's dalliance with one of her favorite musicians, a fact she was none to shy about. She had absolutely no shame, in fact, and was more than happy to take his father to court for what was, quite frankly, an obscene amount of money in child support. She also lacked the shame to allow the man a peaceful life, more than happy to pull his strings and get her way in regards to providing the best for her son. Cel grew up traveling a lot, spoiled as all hell, wanting for almost nothing. Of course, the thing he really would've liked was for his father to care about him and take care of him out of love, not obligation, but he reasoned that his life was pretty great, and asking for something that simple was greedy. Of course, that didn't stop him from throwing fits in his youth, one of which resulted in his first show of magic. Angry at not being allowed to go with his father on a trip out of the country, Cel caused the lighter objects in the man's dressing room (brushes, scraps of paper, some fruit) to levitate for a long moment as he yelled at the man. Of course, his mother was overjoyed that he was magic, not that there'd been any reason to doubt it. The years following remained much the same, but included preparations for his eventual attendance at Hogwarts.
SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR »» Cel spent his first year getting to know the lay of the land, more or less, and his classmates. He made a few friends and flirted with basically every girl in his year, if he could get a second to do so. The main exception was his classmate Maura, who he developed a somewhat playful competitiveness with.

SECOND YEAR »» Cel's second year of school was, for the most part, uneventful. The obvious exception being an unfortunate encounter with a Gryffindor girl named Miranda. He apparently channeled a little too much of his father in that instance, as his attempts to flirt and brighten her mood were met with a swift right hook to his face. He apologized, of course, because that was the right way to handle that, and made a note to steer clear of her from then on. Other than that, he participated in a couple of clubs, paid minimal attention to his studies, and continued attempting to annoy Maura, which was becoming something of a hobby for him.

THIRD YEAR »» Cel wishes he could say that the discovery he made upon getting off of the train to return home for the Summer wasn't much of a shock, but he'd be lying. It didn't take long after a confusing encounter in which Maura confused his own mother for hers, and realization of a the resemblance between the two women, and a short conversation to realize that the two of them had more than an interest in music and drama in common. They were, in fact, half-siblings, courtesy of their manwhore of a father. Cel took to this news a little better than Maura did, but she eventually thawed to him and they began to get along at least slightly better, though not without the continuation of their rivalry. He eventually discovered that, due to her contact with their father being almost nonexistent, she had no knowledge of the remainder of their family. He took it upon himself come the holidays to introduce her to their uncle Matthew, who was like a nicer, less sleazy version of their father. Other than that oddity, and the food fight started by one of his housemates, the school year was mostly uneventful.

xxx»» Charley doesn't like to waste time doing nothing. She prefers to always be active, either mentally or physically, it doesn't really matter. She enjoys being challenged and finds it hard to focus when she isn't. It's often a struggle to keep her attention on something that doesn't make her think or present her with a problem to solve. She keeps books of riddles, brain teasers, and puzzles on hand at all times, as well as carrying a small collection of locks, so that if she finds herself bored, she has something to occupy herself with.

If forced into it, she will answer in as few syllables as possible, and often very readily convey her lack of interest in the topic at hand. When she's actually interested in what's being said, she prefers to listen than to contribute, though she will happily offer her two cents if she thinks it's necessary. Typically, such interjections are reserved for when someone says something factually inaccurate. She rarely bothers to offer opinions, unless what's being said is exceptionally idiotic.

xxx»» Charley generally finds things like tact to be a waste of time, prioritizing someone's feelings over what needs to be said and done. As such, she doesn't like to bother with it. She'd much rather state things outright and deal with the consequences. To her mind, what's being said is going to be said eventually, and trying to find nicer words to say it rarely changes the reaction. Of course, this only applies when she actually realizes that someone might be hurt by what she has to say, which admittedly isn't always the case. She's a very frank person, and not very emotional, so sometimes it simply doesn't occur to her that her words might hurt.
CURIOUS
xxx»» Charley is a sponge, constantly seeking new things to absorb. She can't seem to keep her nose out of things, always watching and listening to the world around her, even when she really shouldn't be. It rarely occurs to her that a conversation might be private until it's too late, but she fails to see a problem with this since she's not prone to gossip. She likewise tends to completely ignore boundaries, poking around in other people's things to learn about them, despite a general lack of interest in interacting with them. She'd rather learn by observing than by interacting. She reads voraciously and usually has anywhere from three to six books stacked on her bedside table. She rarely bothers with fiction, finding it pointless, though she can be swayed with the argument that it's a study of human psychology, provided the book is well written.
PERCEPTIVE
xxx»» Because she spends so much time watching and learning, Charley tends to see things that others don't. While she's not particularly good at dealing with people, she nonetheless is excellent at noticing the changes in their behaviors, and in reasoning why those changes have occurred. She rarely does anything with the information, preferring to file it away in the case it eventually becomes important or useful to her.

xxx»» Charley isn't exactly shy so much as she is uninterested in the world around her. She'd rather poke her nose into a book or act as a spectator to her own life than actually be involved in much of anything. She rarely engages in social interactions, seeing no point in them if they don't serve some higher purpose. If she sees some way that she benefits from the interaction, she will engage, but for the most part she remains in her own head.

CHILDHOOD
xxx»» Charley doesn't remember most of her childhood, and what little she does remember isn't so much her own memories as her piecing things together from her uncle's stories. She knows her mother was very ill when she was born, and died shortly after. According to her uncle, there was some question as to whether or not her illness and death were entirely by chance, though she could never fathom what he might be implying. Following her mother's death, her uncle took her from her father, though again the details on this are hazy. As far as she knows, her father has never attempted to contact her, nor does he want anything to do with her. In reality, her father had no idea that her mother was a witch, as she had hidden this information from him as per the law. Her uncle, knowing that his niece was magical, took it upon himself to raise her in his sister's stead. When her father protested this, her uncle arranged for his memories to be altered; as far as her father knows, she died with her mother in childbirth.
xxx»» Charley's childhood was a happy one, if somewhat lonely. Her uncle was something of a hermit, and quite impatient with other people when forced to interact with them. She often wondered why he'd agreed to be her guardian in the first place, as she had a few other, more distant relatives that seemed to like her just fine. But, he was kind enough, if a bit eccentric, and they loved one another very much. As far as she could tell, she was the only person in the world he actually liked. She grew to be much the same, and they lived in their own private little bubble. When her magic appeared, he was thrilled, though she felt some level of trepidation at the realization that she would have to attend Hogwarts and be away from him. She hasn't been looking forward to being in a strange place, surrounded by strange people, but intends to make the most of the experience all the same.
SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR »» Charley's first year at school was overall uneventful. She tried out for her house quidditch team and spent her free time familiarizing herself with the castle, and all its nooks and crannies. She managed to make one friend, or she thinks she might've, when classmate Ariel Nolan caught her investigating the security on the library's restricted section. Rather than ratting her out to the librarian or one of the professors, he seemed rather interested in joining her in her investigation, though she pretended it was purely out of curiosity rather than an actual intention to break into the restricted section.

SECOND YEAR »» Charley wasn't especially thrilled about how her second year started, mostly because of Ariel. She was alright with having a friend, really, but she didn't much care for him dragging her into his club and making her help him get it off the ground. Still, she begrudgingly helped him, out of loyalty? Or something? She's still not sure. Aside from that, her year was mostly boring. She had a fine enough time in lessons and exploring the castle, as well as Quidditch. But it was nothing to write home about.
