She'd been walking back from the campus, ducked under an archway, and suddenly, Temperance had no idea where she was. Well, in theory she did, more or less. But it was drizzling and colder than it should have been and much dimmer. In fact, it was a lot like her drea- Temperance stopped that thought. She was being silly! It was just that Millie's words echoed uncomfortably in her head. It would be nice to simply assign 'alternate world' as a explanation for her dreams; labeling the unknown as something also did that. Always helped. Temperance kicked a rock, the sound far too loud in the stillness. She pinched herself. There was no way all of the people could have simply disappeared off of the streets. The day had been bright, sunny. Maybe this was a bit creepy. Temperance doubled back, trying to find where she'd made the wrong turn and ended up in a dream, but an archway was just an archway. A door really was just a door. Her skirt flared up around her hips as she turned, even the bright plaid of it seemingly muted. Maybe if she did as she had last time, she'd simply awaken, no worse for wear. Temperance looked around, her hands balling into nervous fists. And then she screamed as though she were on a roller coaster. The reasoning behind it was that such a loud noise would jar her subconscious out of it, or something like that. She paused, drew a breath, and screamed again. endejester pls dont hate me i literally have no idea what im doing

Zac at least, had gone there on purpose, he had an umbrella, power bars, camping supplies, and a cat. He was doing something that was…probably silly and trying to mark on a map of -actual- Ashdown, places where he found graffiti. That sword and crown mark that seemed so significant. That was what at least, put him in good position to hear the scream. His head snapped up in wide eyed alarm. “Hey…HEY!” He called like he could somehow chase off whatever the hell might be threatening the person he heard screaming. It was a stupid reaction and he knew that as soon as he’d yelled but… He rounded a corner, and saw… a young woman, no monsters, no creatures, no smell of burning. Just a very scared looking young woman he didn’t know. “H… Hello?” He said cautiously. “.PRrrrrp?” Added mogget, nudging the top of his shoulder bag up just enough to poke his nose out and blink golden eyes without getting himself wet.

Temperance drew breathe to scream again when she noticed someone and stopped short. She'd never met anyone here in the few times she'd been dreaming. Well, she'd seen a cat, once, but that didn't really count. "Oh," she said, rather breathlessly. The person was cute, all galaxy purple and with a gentle face and was that a tiny cat in their bag? Temperance couldn't let herself be fooled into complacency by cute dream people, though. "How do I wake up?"

“Oh… Uh…Um…” He hesitated. “You’re not going to like that answer.” Zac worried at his lip and then stepped forward, offering a hand. “Um… M…my name is Zac. This is… I mean, you probably dreamed about it before but, you’re kinda, actually here now I think. I mean, I know when I got…stuck here, no one could find me in Ashdown Proper.” He rubbed the back of his neck embarrassed. “I…it’s not so bad so long as you don’t go making bargains willy nilly with things. It’s kinda like the old stories of fey in that regard. But… I think they don’t like being called that. I’m not…fey I mean.” He added the last part a little hastily, tugging at the edge of his overlong black shirt like it was suddenly not long enough though it went almost to his knees. Sadly the rain, and the dim nature of ‘Other’ Ashdown made his galaxy leggings kinda s**t. “Um… This is Mogget.” He said and lifted the flap of his bag slightly to show off the cat better. “I guess…cats can come here when they want, he seems to show up sometimes even when I don’t end up here -with- him.”

"What do you mean I'm here." This was stated with an odd mixture of flat disbelief and a hint of wonder. Translocation? Whatever this dreamboy meant, he was hitting the nail right on the head about some things and her dreamy blue eyes suddenly focused sharply on him. Then they narrowed as she tried to listen thoroughly to him - bargains? Things? She closed her eyes slowly, then opened them again as if she expected Zac to just poof along with the rest of this place. He didn't. "Oh. I've, um, seen cats in my dreams sometimes." Temperance decided Zac probably wasn't a serial killer and moved closer to him, partly jsut to stare at the adorable Mogget. "So how do I leave?"

“Mmmmm” Zac hesitated. “I… I think I can get you out, probably.” He said with a nod, trying SO hard to sound confidant. “I think its harder if you haven’t…been here a while. I was actually stuck the first time I got sent here, but… I might have legitimately been stuck so…” A little white arm, with pink toe-beans reached out and swung at temperance, almost a greeting. “Prrrrrrp!” said the cat, still peering from inside the bag where it was safe, and dry, and where he was changing the machine granted shape of the protein bars that were currently under his fluffy little butt. “If you follow me I’ll see if I can’t find us an exit?” He offered. “y…you can hold the umbrella if you want, you’re pretty soggy. I know it gets miserable.”

"Y-you were stuck? That's a thing... a thing that happens here?" As far as Temperance was concerned, suddenly Zac was the end-all and be-all of all alternate Ashdown knowledge. She wandered briefly if she should call it Nwodhsa in her mind, but how was that even pronounced? It sounded like a knock-off of some Tolkein elf. Reflexively, she stuck her fingers out to the white cat, dancing them along the edge of Zac's backpack. "I.. it's okay - it's your umbrella, we don't even need to share! I... kind of.. is it safe to like, explore here?"

]“Im ok, I have a hood and we can always duck into a building!” He said earnestly, and held it out. “Mog is happy so long as he stays dry and we don’t run into anything big I think.”
*pap pap pap* the paw tapped at her fingers, nose touching at her fingers to smell her scent.
“It is um, it’s sometimes safe?” he offered. “I mean I’m here, and I know some of the ones that are really bad so, yeaaaah, yeah we can explore a while!” He offered.
"And um... I'm not sure the stuck thing is normal? I'm...still trying to get answers on that." He admitted.

She still declined the umbrella, shaking her head furiously. She could not. Still, Temperance leaned over to give Mogget a gentle head scratch before withdrawing her fingers. "Some of the ones that are bad? There are... things here? I've n-never met anyone before." Temperance shivered. This place always seemed so empty, so much duller. "I wouldn't mind exploring - I've never really been around here. O-obviously." She pulled out her phone and tried to load up google maps only to find no service - not even emergency service. "I wonder if it's exact, you know. Like Ashdown."

“It’s close?” he offered. “I mean, there are places that are different, the library is um… the library on the outside but inside it’s like, floating islands. Um… The high school isn’t there at all, you actually can’t even -get- there. Books here are uh… well those are -super- weird. It’s like… it’s like their memories, but not necessarily YOURS?” He said tipping his head to one side and trying to explain this. Like…you might pick up a book and you’ll know its…really odd… and if you turn the pages you might see like.. my…fifth birthday party.” He shifted and raised the umbrella to try and cover both of them.

"Floating islands?" Temperance was, if possible, even more confused than before. She blinked and could her mind trying to fuzzily process everything. She might not have been the quickest girl on the uptake, but she knew how to work at something and pull it apart with her mind until it made sense. "Can you go to the library - like show me where it is? W-we don't have to go inside." She ducked her head obligingly under the umbrella, giving him a small smile.

“Umm yea we can go past it? It’s not always…open?” He waved his hands as though that would somehow help him communicate some abstract time table of the library being, or not being accessible. “It’t the same place that the library is in Regular ash down, it even looks the same on the outside. Most buildings are pretty much the same inside too but, not the Library.” He shook his head in marvel as they walked. A soon as you could sort of see it he actually went ahead and pointed. “if we were in regular Ashdown, I’d say I live there almost as much as I go between the Bookstore Bibliophile, and the college” He grinned sheepishly.

"I... guess the librarians here must, um, work odd hours." Everything was magic here, so the librarians could be clouds of mist for all Temperance knew. "I'd like to see it, anyway. Seems odd." A library that was a system of floating islands, like an archipelago? A bilbopelago. She suppressed a giggle at her own silly joke. Temperance peered at what Zac pointed to, as if she could discern it's magical insides by staring at the outside, but her attention turned back to Zac at the mention of college. "Oh, in Ashdown? I go here, too - sophomore. I haven't been to that bookshop, though. Does it have a specialty?"

“Oh! I’m a, I’m a freshman!” He said looking like she’d absolutely caught his interest. “A…As far as the Bookstore, um… It, one of the professors owns it? Um… He wrote the ‘Red Herring’ book series? The one they are adapting for ….tv or movie or something staring Idris Alba?” He tried not to dig into what the latest things were, preferring to see them in his own time. “I can walk you to where you’d find it? I mean, the layout here is almost exactly the town, almost really. Did you want to see?”

"Oh! I know who you're talking about. I've never been there but I might visit it now." She looked at him from the corner of her eye. "Um, if that's... okay, I mean." Temperance didn't want to overstep her bounds, but Zac seemed so nice and knowledgeable... "Sure; I would appreciate the walk, to see if my eyes can find anything different I guess." She shrugged a little, realizing she was being silly.
