A cold wind blew thropgh Zena today. Yet, it was rather serene outside as Tryston walked down the mountain path. A beautiful day for anyone who was wanting to stretch their legs...or in his case get prepared for a journey. Since convincing Lyrie that he would and wanted to become a sword the boy had been planning his mission. Lyrie had mentioned it would be an escort mission outside of Zena and into Tale so Tryst wanted to make certain that he would be well supplied.

Gold after all was not his to take. Only necessities to prove that he could make wise decisions before journeying. Basic supplies that he could use for survival...frowning the male thought over a potential list as he continued down the path and towards the village below. In the back of his mind another thought formed but he shrugged it off. It wasn't like the girl would even know to miss him since he was so rarely here...

Serana fixed her hair and got dressed for the day. It was truly another beautiful day to head to the village. "How lucky of us, right Iska?" Iska huffed in agreement. Interestingly enough, being a beast of the desert, Iska was actually starting to like Zena's cold weather. She smiled as he rubbed his head on hers and waited by the door.

"Oh, alright, let's get going then." She opened the door to her room and made her way out of the house. Iska went sprinting, making circles around her as she walked towards the village. The sight made her giggle. She loved seeing him happily running through the snow, and just being happy in general.

Arriving at the village Tryston finally got a chance to wander towards the market. First, however, the male took his time to walk around the outskirts of the series of buildings. Homes were here and he frowned thoughtfully as he watched some families interact. Even a pair of siblings rushed by without hesitation. The presence of the swordsmen never bothered the town since it was thanks to their constant presence on top of the mountains that allowed such peace.

It was so serene.

This was what Lyrie had wanted for him. A family to raise in this village where he could just live out his days without worry of battle. The thought made Tryston sigh. How could he live so contentedly like this while knowing the rest fought? He would surely die of boredom as well...even if he didn't appear as eager or outspoken as the other swords he still was a rogue at heart. And it wasn't like they lived on the road all the time. This village in a way was their second home...surely there was nothing wrong with accepting a bit of danger in his life. If Lyrie felt like retiring then he could do that, but it just wasn't for Tryst. Shaking off the thoughts the male began to walk towards the market. He had lingered far too long while thinking on such things.

As Serana made her way down to the village, Iska walked by her side. After getting all of his running around out, he proudly walked with her. They were greeted by an elderly ice woman at the edge of town.

"Hello, Serana! So good to see you, oh and your friend, Iska too! How lovely. Are you here for the market dear?" Iska puffed out his chest at the mention of his name.

Serana smiled. "No, ma'am. We're just here for leisure."

"Oh, well do enjoy yourselves. Bye now." The woman walked towards her little hut. It was so nice to see her doing much better after getting over her illness.

Serana started towards the middle of town. Perhaps we will go to the market and check things out there. It seemed like a good idea. What wonders would they find there today?

Swords. Their metal gleamed in the morning sunlight and Tryston couldn't help appreciating the few on display at the smith's workshop. Every time he wandered into the village the boy found himself staring at the beautiful pieces. Each month they were different as the smith was actually a famed artisan and had sold his pieces throughout Zena. His grandfather, however, was the one who held all the family secrets and it was from him that Lyrie had received his blade.

One day Tryston hoped to get his own sword from the old man.

For now though he was stuck with the dull training blade that hung at his side. Until he was a true sword he had to make due with this. The thought made Tryst frown but so was life. He wasn't afraid of such a challenge. Once he got over this escort mission the boy could find his own blade that would rival Lyrie's. Definitely.

That in mind Tryston continued down the winding path that would open up into a more public area of the village. It was here that travelers would stop and rest at the tavern or stock up on their wares. Since it was clear weather many merchants were actually outside rather than tucked indoors. That made Tryston's job easier as he could walk amongst the stalls and pick and chose his supplies.

Serana walked through to the main area where the merchants selling all kinds of objects, from accessories to clothes, to food and drink. She browsed one of the few clothing shops, looking for perhaps a new dress or something cute to wear.

As she browsed the shops, Iska sat down with his back to her, on the lookout for any of her usual suitors. Ever since the two became close, Serana's suitors seemed to bother her less and less. I wonder why that is... Oh well, perhaps they found someone else. She smiled at the thought, She'd love to hear about their love stories. Speaking of which, at that thought, one of her suitors tried to approach her, only to be greeted by a growling Janarim.

Iska stood up, and Serana turned around. She pet Iska's shoulder and he backed down. It was Jaice, one of her usuals. He was holding one of the exotic Oban desert flowers, probably something he bought from a travelling merchant around here. "Oh, hi, Jaice." She smiled at him. "What brings you to the market today?"

Jaice held out the flower. "Hi, Serana, I got you something... May I?" She nodded and let him put the flower in her hair. Iska growled in protest, but a quiet hush clmed him down. When he was done, Jaice backed away. "I'll uh... See you around."

How strange. No proposal...? She couldn't fathom why he didn't because he usually does every time he sees her. Oh well, I suppose he's gotten over her, or found someone else. It was nice of him to get her a flower though.

"How do I look?" She asked Iska. He huffed in approval and she giggled. Back to browsing I suppose.

As a jittery male basically ran past him, Tryst raised an eyebrow. What could have someone so worked up like that? He had appeared more frustrated than anything. Almost like someone who had plans, but ran away at the last second. Strange, he hadn't heard any screams. Surely there wasn't a fight or something occurring further along...

There could be a creature, however. Now that he had finally arrived Tryst moved through the marketplace.There...spotting a giant white tail of some creature, Tryst grabbed his training sword and spun around the corner. His preparation for an attack stumbled to a halt as he noticed the girl with the janarim. "Serana?" Was she in trouble? Frowning, Tryst took a few long strides and placed himself in between beast and lady. Even with his sword in hand the male paused thoughtfully. It wasn't attacking her, but it definitely was getting closer to Serana...Still, it didn't hurt to be prepared.

His gaze curious Tryst glanced between the beast and girl.

Serana smiled so big, she almost seemed to glow. "Tryston, it's so good to see you!" She did a little curtsy as he approached. When she noticed that he was approaching with his hand on his sword, she blinked in confusion.

"Umm... What are you doing...?" Iska growled as Tryst got in between her and her companion. She couldn't begin to fathom as to what he was thinking. Did he really think Iska to be dangerous? Well he is a bit intimidating at first... I was when I first met him.

She knew she had to defuse the situation quickly, because it could easily get out of hand. She put her hand on Tryst's shoulder. She pulled him back and she got in between them. "Boys, please don't fight..." She made an adorable frown and looked at both of them. She put her hand under Iska's chin and scratched it gently.

"Tryst, this is my faithful friend, Iska. He's a Janarim. I helped him with his illness and he has been protecting me ever since." She looked at Iska. "Iska this is Tryston, he's a friend. It's okay." She hoped that would stop them from getting into a conflict.

She didn't appear to act as if she were in danger. Relaxing his grip, Tryston just frowned at the beast before glancing up at Serana. "I don't pick fights." The boy replied with the faintest of quirked brows, "I was just making certain you weren't about to be ripped apart, Serana." What a way to greet each other. While she had been happy the male had been on guard. It was like a parallel of their lives - he frowned at the world doubtfully while she seemed to greet everyone without hesitation.

"Friend?" Tryston glanced at the Janarim before staring at Serana, "Most girls would have maybe a roati for a pet, not this." It looked more like a mount for a rider or a fighter...definitely not what he would expect of a delicate princess type. "I suppose your family decided that it serves as a guard?" It would be more efficient than having a hire sword all the time. Perhaps that meant that his services wouldn't be needed - not that her family considered a son from the band of swordsmen at the top of the mountain suitable companions for their daughter. His type were only meant for missions and limited interactions, not this. If they only realized how much he met with their daughter in this village...not that he had any ulterior motives. As much as Lyrie wished otherwise Tryston just saw Serana as a little sister. Someone to be protected because she was too innocent and naive for this world.

"Guard? I mean yes he guards me, but he's more than that. He's one of my best friends. Isn't that right, Iska?" She cooed at that last part and Iska rubbed his head against hers, and grunted in agreement.

After their little moment she turned to Tryston. "See? Maybe one day, I can learn to ride him. He loves to run around in the forest and it makes me kind of jealous." She giggled.

"Anyway, what are you up to today, Tryston?" She smiled at him as she asked her question.

Tryston just raised a brow. The last thing he ever expected to see was a great beast nuzzling his friend. Yet, at the same time should anyone manage to pull off such a strange sight it would be Serana. Was this how she treated most guards? He nearly teased before holding his mouth. Friendship was a reluctant thing between the two of them and it wasn't like he could guard her often. That family preferred older swords over an apprentice like him. Just the thought made him glance towards the training sword at his side. One day things would be different...

"Riding..." He quoted with a small frown, "It's not simply a leisure activity. I would say even a beast like him would take training and effort. You would need a trainer most likely." Not that he doubted her ability, but he did wonder if she understood the true implications of such stunts.

At her question the male gazed around, "Supply shopping. I'm going to Tale for a mission and need to prepare for the journey." His surprise over seeing the Janarim had almost made him forget."Are you just wandering around today then or do you have a specific need as well, Serana?"

He was leaving again? It hardly ever seemed that they were that close anymore. She figured he was usually doing his escort jobs, while she was trying to help the village and attending council meetings. "Oh, Another mission, huh? Sounds exciting!" She teased. Serana wanted to keep the meeting as positive as possible since the thought of her friendship with Tryston drifting apart was quite depressing.

Serana smiled. "Well, we were just looking around. Do you mind if we join you on your supply shopping? We can catch up and have fun, like old times..." She did an eye flutter and clasped her hands together as if to say "Pleaase?"

Tryston frowned faintly, "It is..." He glanced at the girl from the corner of his eye, "But it's on my own. I'm doing my trial mission before Lyrie finally gives me a true sword." He glanced away as he fingered a few trinkets hanging from the merchant's stall, "Since it's my trial mission I have to do something different than normal. I'll be going to Tale shortly and it may be weeks before I even start back home. Not that anyone should miss me or worry for that matter. It's just a simple escort mission." He added quickly.

At her request the male almost laughed. Sometimes things truly didn't change. "I'm fine with that. Though I don't know much about fun in shopping." He raised a light brow, "Just promise me you won't be going from stall to stall and taking forever to decide what trinket you would like."

As he moved forward the male reached out coin to purchase the rope that he had been fiddling with, "So Serana...how are things?" He asked quietly as he tied the rope to the satchel hanging from his back. It had been a week or more since he had last wandered into the girl. Ever since he had saved her that night at the festival the boy had been more on guard for the girl. Almost like a brotherly instinct to protect a sister really.

"Hey... I don't take that long to pick something out, do I?" Serana frowned almost to the point of a pouty face and crossed her arms. One thing was for certain, she certainly missed talking to the boy. Their meeting was entirely by chance, and ever since that day in the festival when he saved her from those unruly thugs, and bought her what would end up being her favorite hairpin, the two became friends. She saw him as an older brother, always there for her. Well, until we started growing up... The thought caused a real frown to flash across her face for only a split second.

Happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts... As Tryston bought some rope, and his question actually confused her. "Things? Well..." She paused and patted Iska. "Things are going well. I've been attending meetings with my parents in the council..." She trailed off. Serana had to be honest with herself, though. Things were not okay in the council, and as much as she wanted to do something about it, she was truly powerless. She knew she didn't have a voice yet in the council, and didn't know where to start building one.

"Oh?" Tryston just raised an eyebrow as he moved through the stalls and browsed. What did he need exactly? Perhaps a good hunting knife to make up for the one he had lost during their last encounter with a pack of angry raptrix. "If you are uncomfortable talking about it then I won't press you." He added as he noticed how she trailed off. "Just know that if you need I'll be around."

He glanced up across the market to where the mountains loomed in the distance, "And even if I'm not around Lyrie can help you, but you already know that." Tryst shrugged before holding up two knives, "What do you think?" Not that she would know much about strong metals, but having another eye for design was nice. It was a parting gift for Lyrie after all.

One blade was curved and silver with a sleek black handle while the other had a bone handle carved as a raptrix, "It's for a parting gift for Lyrie." He explained briefly before he glanced through other knives. There were several options after all...
