Another trip to the village, another chance to meet the others. Cerpin ought to have been wary of how the others would perceive his highblood presence in this safe haven from the hemospectrum but the purpleblood walked through Salamire without letting any such thoughts show. He did worry about if they truly accepted him from time to time but the cocky youngster would not let them know of any insecurities. He was confident, he was talented, they would love him. He would simply have to make them see what an asset he was!
Cerpin didn't see much of Forera around the place anymore and this bothered him. Maybe he ought to ask someone if she'd been kicked out or worse, if she'd simply never come back from a patrol in the swamp. The land between them and civilization was dangerous and he only dared travel it when the night was darkest to avoid any daywalkers. Something sounded nearby and he peered through the trees to see what it was.
"You're-! I remember you!" It was an older troll that he'd seen at the Cinderglow Festival. She'd talked about training and building up an armory. At the time he'd wondered if she was gearing up to be some sort of battle officer but hadn't had the chance to talk before they'd switched gears to the lantern thing. But now he had a chance and he was going to take it. If she was a war maiden of some sort, maybe she could help him get stronger.
Tevini couldn't call him useless then.
"I'm Cerpin Sugall, one of the new recruits. Yeah, I was at the Cinderglow thing and heard you talk about training!" The boy chattered on, seemingly used to wandering up to random people and talking comfortably with complete strangers. Hopefully she didn't mind him interrupting her but well, Cerpin tended to do stuff on his own schedule anyways. While he was trying to unlearn his highblood privilege to join the Rebels' cause, he wasn't perfect yet.
"Think you could teach me a thing or two?" His eyes met her's with a strong enthusiasm and the grin on his face clearly wasn't going to entertain the word 'no'!
DraconicFeline I kind of made up that he just saw her around the village, I hope that's okay! If not, let me know and I can change it. I left it open as to what she's doing since I didn't wanna godmod too much!

Keionx let the extendable tape measure slide back into it's dispenser with it's characteristic and satisfying slapping sound, eyeing the tree thoughtfully. She'd had a lot of practice hive building over the past few months. It served many purposes: it was good for the village and good for strength training, and she did like to construct things. Having gotten accustomed to the nuances of building in the swamp, she was starting to consider how - and where - to build a training center. Obviously, all young trolls had ample battle training from their lusus, but they would need more than just that to survive in a world where they, the children of Salamire outpost, were not supposed to exist. Everyone in the Initiative had to be ready to fight hard, and that meant training. Not every troll had a lusus that would give them that kind of hard, intensive training, or the equipment to support it. Or, in this case, the floor. A specially built training facility, like a gymnasium or salle, complete with an armory and a crafting area, would help. But should it be in the swamp or the neighboring Busthind lowlands? Should it be in the trees or hidden in the ground? Keionx was preparing several options, which she intended to present to the people in charge and get their say in it. This tree was one such building option. She noted down her measurements on a much-harassed piece of paper and, just as she turned away to protect the paper from the ever present dripping of the leaves, she caught sight of a child coming towards her. Before she had properly registered him as that one purpleblood child that's been around, he started talking up a storm. "Keionx Rutace." she offered her hand, tucking her weathered notepad into a safe place. "And yes, I did speak of training." she looked him over, assessing. "Thou wishest me to train you?" Well, was it not what she had planned to do? He seemed... soft... but no troll was. "Very well. There is a place of raised, flat ground by a bend in the river. Dost thou know it?" It was a place frequently used for training, when the wooden floors and rope bridges of the village's walkways simply would not do.

Keionx agreed to teach him and Cerpin seemed to light up due to this great chance. She tucked a notebook away and he wondered what it was for. The orangeblood was fairly mysterious to him but he decided not to push it. Who knew how many chances he would get for a beat-down session with one of the outpost's more serious soldiers?
"I've tagged along some patrols, I think I know it..." Did he remember it well? Not really. But the purpleblood could vaguely picture the location Keionx was describing and began walking towards it. Excitement buzzed through him. She looked strong and lean. Clearly this was a troll that knew what she was doing.
"So how did you get into the PI? I joined after the showdown in the tunnels." Might as well talk about something as they made their way to the bend in the river. The purpleblood wanted to know more about the other members of the rebellion. Especially the lowbloods. He had spent most of his life following the hemospectrum as it benefited him. It was almost sort of a relief to not deal with the social codes and hierarchy that came with it. But these were things he knew that others might not believe. Aerona certainly hadn't trusted him. Would this orangeblood?
"Oh, hey, teach me how to strike from below!" The visual came into his head and it just seemed so damn cool! Cerpin was a troll with many dreams, some more simple and others complex. His hands toyed with the plants that he could reach as they walked through the swamp to the river.

"Good." she said, "Then let us go. I assume thou hast thy weapon on thee?" she asked, as they went there. The riverbend was a good place to train, and was also a good place to train others. Keionx knew, however, that the outpost preferred most activities take place high in the trees, where they would be less visible. This made a gymnasium/training facility especially important. "How I joined..." Keionx hesitated, "Is complicated." It was, indeed, a mess of friends and role models and family and lost innocence. She would have to find a way to tell her story - perhaps, if Zariah would talk to her, she would ask him. He was good at distilling things like this. "The simple story is that my twin was part of the rebellion, and once I discovered this, I followed him. There is more to it, of course..." she said, "But, effectively, I too joined in the tunnels." There. That was a good enough story for the time being. This child did not stop talking, did they? Well, Keionx would remedy that with training, but for now... "From below? How dost thou mean?" she asked. Salamire's swamplamps faded into the dim, glowering gloam of the swamp. The river's melodic trickling sounded nearby, and she knew that her training spot was close.

They arrived at the riverside and the young boy buzzed with anxious energy. Cerpin badly wanted to impress his new teacher, at least enough to convince her to schedule regular lessons instead of a one time deal. He pulled the wooden sword he'd bought a few nights ago from his side and held it for her to see and inspect. It wasn't anything special but the quality looked decent. A purpleblood could afford such toys easily. Using them effectively was a different matter.
"I think I met your brother, he seemed alright." It had been a brief conversation during that night of lights, floating lanterns down the riverside. He glanced back at it, almost expecting to see the discarded remains of them but there weren't any. The officers had probably collected them all to hide traces of activity from being found anywhere in this wilderness.
"'Y'know, strike from below!" He gripped his sword and flopped down on his back, aiming the wooden point of his weapon up towards the sky. "In case I'm down but the enemy's still coming to finish me off." It was not really the kind of technique to start someone's training with, Cerpin knew nothing of stances or even the proper way to hold his sword. But he wanted to learn something flashy and dramatic to show just how powerful he was. Time and discipline would teach him that fighting was more about survival rather than showboating.
"Tell me what to do and I'll do it!"

Yamashii She's establishing a baseline. Oh boy. Keionx inspected the wooden sword with professional briskness - it was good quality, and that was important, but quality only did so much when the troll behind it didn't know how to use it. She handed it back. That he had met Zariah was irrelevant - Keionx was sure that he knew many people she didn't know about. Such was the consequence of Zariah's secret life. But they weren't talking about that. They were talking about swordsmanship. "Ahh, yes." she said. She knew the technique. "That is an advanced technique. I doth not think thou art ready for it, but yes. In time. I will teach thee." She frowned, and then drew her sword. "First, show me what thou already knowest - a brief mock fight will do." She had no idea what the boy already knew. She had no idea that it was very little. "A few basic moves will suffice, and then I shall teach thee from there. I will not hurt thee." she added, reassuringly.

"Alright but try not to be too amazed or anything." It was hard to tell if Cerpin was actually that arrogant or just joking around. He gave the sword a spin before falling into a fighting stance with his eyes watching her intently. Part of fighting was knowing where to hit and he wasn't really sure what was best. Cause the most pain? Or immobilize the enemy?
The boy launched himself forward at her, swinging his sword as hard as he could at her midsection. He knew she would be able to dodge any attacks on her face or feet simply because he was nowhere on her level yet. However, he stood a chance aiming at the middle of her maybe seeing as she'd have to move further than simply ducking or jumping over his sword. If he could force her to back away or move where he wanted, that might let the environment help him out some.
"Hah! Take that!" Cerpin continued to swing wildly at her, trying to force her towards the river. He didn't have a plan for what came after that but it'd be interesting to see what she did! Watching her reactions was another way to learn and he wasn't taking his eyes off of her.
"Where'd you learn to fight from? Your lusus or someone else?" His breath was a little ragged from swinging his weapon around so much but he tried to keep a conversation going. It was useful to learn more about his comrades and Keionx seemed like a good contact to have with her enthusiasm towards getting the village prepared for further battles. Was her techique self taught or did she come from a school or something?

Keionx had time to raise an eyebrow at his comment before she had to react to his attack. He came in fast, at her stomach. She held back her praise for the time being - this was a baseline, not a teaching session. But she remembered the move for later - The middle was a large target after all, good to aim for when other targets were harder to predict. The rest of his movements, however, were less ordered. He had a good strategy - with the river at her back, she'd have less space to maneuver - but he was brute forcing it. She blocked his next wild strike with a forceful parry, and in the opening she created she moved so that she was at his flank. There, she hit him with the flat of her sword. Hard. She'd said she wouldn't hurt him, yes. She hadn't said she wouldn't whack him on occasion. "Continue." she said, advancing aggressively. He'd been on the attack - it was time to see how he did on the defense.

The hit hurt but not enough to force a surrender. Cerpin yelped at the blow and lunged away from her position to escape any other swings. Keionx coolly coaxed him to continue on and he nodded. Wait- she was attacking him now!? He struggled to bring his blade up in time to block maybe half of the hits, grunting in discomfort at any that got through and smacked him. It was clear she was holding back from injuring him but letting it sting just enough to teach him a lesson. "Back off!" He growled loudly, a vocal soldier with a commanding voice that would startle lesser fighters but merely annoy skilled ones. He didn't like being on the defensive and it was clearly a weaker part of his abilities. Forcing her sword to the side, he tried to regain the upper hand by knocking his body into hers to push her off balance. The highblood was growing taller and heavier each day but it wasn't really enough to shove her to the ground. Her firm stance held strong against him and he huffed in frustration. It was hard to take on someone bigger and more talented than yourself! But he'd never been a quitter. "Hraaaah!" He grabbed at her free arm and tried to yank them both into the river. If he was gonna lose, he'd make it just as unpleasant for his enemy! DraconicFeline You can decide how effective any of his stuff was, I don't really mind one way or another! He's just gonna keep fighting 'Anything Goes Style' until she tells him to stop! XD

She noted this weakness of his and pressed it further, speeding up the frequency of her attacks to see just how far he could go. He had a lot to learn, but he also had a lot of potential. She could bring that out in him, she was sure, she could... Him grabbing for her arm was a surprise, and she found herself being pulled into her own momentum and, consequently, into the river. The way he'd caught her was very fortunitous - there re was no way to stop the movement, and she had no choice but to let herself fall into the river and deal with it. Even as she splashed into the water, she grabbed him and pulled him in with her, grappling him until they were both soaked, the sort of thing that would never dry in the mucky air of the swamp. "We're finished here." she said, perhaps a little snappily. Fighting could give her voice an edge when she was intense like this. She loosened her grip on him. "Thou hast great potential, but thou needst more training and more patience." she climbed out of the river to catch her breath, "Which I will help thee attain." she held out a hand to him, to help him out of the water. "Dost thou know how to do sit ups? Push ups? Crunches? The lifting of weights?"

The harshness in her voice did not deter him. Gentle nurturing was not really He was honestly incredibly proud that he had seemingly passed her test without passing out. She had held back and allowed him to show off the few skills that he had. Cerpin had originally been a little worried that she'd go full force and smash his tiny body into a tree or something. But the orangeblood was a better teacher than that and he was pumped to get started. Keionx listed off the various exercises she expected him to do for his training and the boy nodded enthusiastically.
"I know most of those! And what I don't, you'll show me, right?" He did not currently own any weights to lift but beetles would not be a problem for the purpleblood. Sure, he was a rebel now and that would make things harder for him but that was just more motivation to properly learn how to fight and defend himself. He was part of something bigger now. He had people to protect. And with his status back in normal society, the more he could fend off other highbloods, the better.
"Keionx? Um... thanks for taking a chance on me. You're pretty cool." Some of the other members of the PI had been very guarded against him and Cerpin himself knew that his joining had not gone smoothly, a highblood Royalist defector trying to slip into their ranks, but for her to consider training him meant a lot.DraconicFeline Feel free to end it in your next post! Let's have them train again now that he's grown!

"Of Course." said Keionx. She would teach him so much. "'twill be hard work, Cerpin." she said, though she smiled at the gratitude. He had potential, and she would bring it out and make him strong, but it would take blood, sweat, and tears. She was ready for it - she always was ready for it. But was he? "Don't thank me yet." And with that, she dismissed him so that she could go about her errands of the day. They would start training in earnest tomorrow... and she would see if he was still grateful after that.
