“I hate life”Vanna had to blink as he walked into the café to see Iah of all people with his head down on the table and nursing what Vanna hoped was a nonalcoholic drink. The poor kid had been a bit nervous around him, and it was absolutely adorable the way he had a mini freak out when Korv mentioned that Iah looked like him. Today though, there was no trace of nervousness what so ever, it was like the kid didn’t care exactly where he was. Well that definitely wasn’t good. Vanna walked over to the counter and had Yami hand him a whiskey. He was technically also underage but considering you got introduced to alcohol really early in this life and Vanna was Yami’s boss he was getting that drink. He also had a feeling he’d want to be drunk. “And… why do we hate life?”

Iah looked up from the table and his soda; yes Yami had in fact given him a nonalcoholic drink, to see that Vanna had indeed shown up again today. Ugh he was going to owe the man way too much by the end of this. However he couldn't understand what kept bringing him back to this place. Maybe it was because Yami and Vanna didn't mind, because he really shouldn't be here, although Yami always made the café super safe for people not in the same profession as him. “I was good at science. It was one of the few things I could take pride in. I’m not good with art. I hate history and I’m too shy and quiet for any of the other things. I wanted to help people and no matter how hard I tried and how hard I studied I failed science. All I’m good for is making a history taco truck” was the answer that Vanna finally received. he hadn't wanted to be quite that whiney but the whole failed grade was really weighing down on him and when Vanna asked it kind of just all spilled out.

Vanna nodded through out Iah’s spiel... ah it would be more on the rant side wouldn't it, anyways when Iah finished he nodded before downing his glass in one shot resisting the urge to cough at the slight burn. What the hell had Yami given him. Scratch that he didn't really wanted to know, instead he held out his glass for Yami to refill. It took everything he had not to make any amused reaction towards Iah’s statement. Seriously… how the hell did Iah come up with a history taco … oh that was right? One of the Life skills assignments for juniors back in the day had been how to make a taco. Huh he definitely wouldn't have pegged the kid for knowing how to cook. How was he supposed to react though to an obviously leftfield statement like that?
Obviously Iah was taking it hard, probably harder than he should be, but he was a teenager and only 14… 15… one of those two ages . Vanna remembered his own young teenage self and inwardly shuddered plus Iah was from a wealthy family and... yeah it made a lot of sense actually.

“And they’ll take away my scholarship because I failed a class. So hey I get to have such a lovely talk with my rich a** parents that oh you have to pay keep me at the academy, because we all know that I failed at life at the other academies I was sent to and knowing them when they didn’t want to send me all the way out here to a demon school… ugh this is utterly pathetic” Iah groaned banging his head into the table again.
“You’re over reacting. Besides if you don’t want to have the talk with your parents then don’t”
Iah looked up at Vanna’s words and gave him a look that basically indicated he thought the mafia boss was insane. He would have to have the talk if he wanted his parents to pay for tuition. He supposed he could try for a part time job for a while just until he could fix things and maybe get another scholarship for senior year if he wanted to have absolutely no social life, which he hardly had in the first place.

“Ah I see there was a misunderstanding. You did come to me after all didn’t you” Vanna replied absent mindedly swirling the liquid around in his glass. There was something different in his manner that hadn't been present when he walked into the establishment. “I mean I am always happy to sit down and talk with a fellow Academy student… even If I’m no longer attending myself. However I don’t think that was your purpose. Iah your dedication is quite…. Mmm amazing… impressive?” Vanna made a tch sound. Neither of those felt like they fit. Sure any one normally had to put in hard work if they wanted to be a doctor, but then what did you call the person who came in last in Med school. As soon as they graduated no matter how mediocre they were you still had to call them doctor. There had to be more for the really impressive doctor, and failure was always good in crushing ego. He waved away his thoughts and previous words before continuing on. “Point is your passion hints at promise and frankly that intrigues me…”
“Vanna…” Yami said in a warning tone. Vanna waved his hand dismissively again before taking another sip of his drink.
“So I guess you were right in that I would be willing to help you…”

The way Vanna trailed off at the end did nothing to quell the sudden sinking feeling in Iah's stomach. It would be better than talking with his parents. It was better than seeing their reaction to a failed grade. They didn't have to know right, after all he had plans to make it up and he would pass next time and hopefully with summer school or remedial classes or something he could get it wiped off his record, it was the sheer amount of school work that he need to concentrate on and his sudden money problems. Everyone warned you not to take loans from the mafia. He wasn't sure though that was what he was doing... Besides Vanna wasn't your typical Mafia boss. He didn’t like involving children normally. True Iah was quickly becoming too old to be considered a child, but there was something else… something lurking behind Vanna’s seemingly benevolent tone. The Chimera wanted something. He wanted something that he thought Iah would be willing to give him.
“And I’m assuming there would be something attached to this help?” Iah spoke up. It was back to the sudden question in the air. The question was… did one make a deal with the metaphorical Devil just to avoid potential family backlash. He had known and known of Vanna in school. Iah was one of the few that knew what Vanna actually was and who he currently was now. Since graduating school, there was something more cold about the Chimera.

Vanna smiled in a way that was all fangs and took another sip of his drink. Ah it looked like the nervousness was back. Still not as cute as it was that first time they had met in the café but non the less he would take it.
“I’m not going to eat you Iah. Seriously I’m relatively still the same. However I will readily admit that you are correct and I want something. You see I find myself with a problem. While I hide who I really am most of the time, when you show up at hospitals or doctors they tend to want to know the reasoning behind injuries and when you say it’s something like guns or magic or the like they get really suspicious.” He paused to drum his fingers on the table for a moment or two. “I would like to have a couple doctors that… well I wouldn’t say on my pay roll because I am all for them taking other patients and living their own lives. I just want someone that will take the patients at any time of the day and not ask questions. Simple... ish wouldn't you say”

Ah that fanged smile was back again. He was insane for even thinking about it. Zillah would definitely have words if she ever found out Iah was even considering this. He wasn’t even going to think of what Korv or Amy would have to say but the likelihood of his parents calling him back home was a very serious threat. He didn’t have many friends here but he loved the ones that he did. Ah he was wavering again wasn’t he?
“I’m still only 15. Even if I throw myself into work and everything else that’s at least ten years before I become a doctor. It’s a pretty long time to wait for one. It’s not like I can help someone that gets extremely hurt tomorrow. What if I really wasn't cut out to be a doctor and I fail again senior year” Iah countered, but he had a feeling he already knew Vanna’s answer. The man had given it before in his offer. Why was Iah dragging this out?

Ah… taming Vespercats was easier than this… still Vanna had to admit to some fun. Most either outright refused him and he depending on who they are dealt with the problem or they were so desperate they instantly said yes. The boy would say yes. Vanna almost always knew when they were going to say yes. Now if he could just get Yami to stop making disagreeing sounds and rolling his eyes in the background. It wasn’t like Vanna was recruiting the boy right this instant. Vanna wasn’t going to insist on anything until the boy was well in his university years. Maybe even after he graduated depending on the genius the boy showed. Ah... that may actually be giving Vanna's patience too much credit.
“Ah but I said I wanted a couple doctors. You are just a very long term investment that I see as panning out. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you Iah I have faith that you’ll get there… which is why I know you won’t fail Science again. I know enough about you Iah and I definitely know your type of character pretty well. You’ll throw yourself into your studies. You won’t let a setback like this happen again.“ Vanna stated his tone of voice a lot more sing song like than it had any right to be. “Come on Iah it’s a simple yes or no. Will you take the deal or not? You can even think of it as another scholarship of sorts.”

Iah stared at the hand that had been offered out to him. He would definitely have to get everything down on paper. While he was probably doing something utterly stupid, he still knew that verbal promises weren’t exactly the most reliable of things. Biting on his lower lip he reached out and grasped Vanna’s hand.
“Yeah… I’ll take it… but can I get a written agreement” Iah stated skeptically which earned a chuckle from the slightly older man in front of him. He had gotten rid of one problem but... what if he had just opened up a whole bunch of other problems. Vanna always seemed charming and nice but you didn’t get to where the Chimera had by being charming and nice.

"Normally we’d break out drinks and I’d say something like welcome to the family but I think it should be more, thank you for the business. I look forward to working with you” Vanna mused. “or maybe it’s a bit of both, I really do want to help and you really are doing me a favor, or at least will be in the future. I’ll even get you that written document you seem to want. Just do well in school Kiddo." Vanna looked down at his watch, he really had spent too much time here but Yami had sent him a text that Iah had been wallowing in his sodas and Vanna well had a soft spot for the geist. Maybe it was that comment that Iah dressed or looked like him. Ah well it wasn't really important. Downing the rest of his drink, he set the now empty glass on the table. "Well I have pillow shops to run so I guess I’ll be seeing you around Iah… good luck”
