Tonight was important! Kacivu had received orders from Najwa that word had come in regarding a band of rogues that were getting close to the pride. He was proud of his work as a spy. For this mission he'd been granted another to come along with him. He'd chosen the cheetah Temitope. In case anything happened the cheetah was the fastest and could get word back to the pride. With the onset of night he went to the meeting place.
"Are you ready?" Kacivu asked the cheetah. "How much do you know about our mission tonight?" Had the cheetah been briefed or just told to meet him? Either way, he'd brief him on the way out. It was going to be odd working with another. Most of the time he worked on his own. Their pride was still small, and he'd heard the group was fairly large. Did they intend trouble or were just passing through?

Temi glanced around as he entered the clearing, checking, always checking. Was someone following them? Were they being stalked or hunted? It was concerning business. His number one priority was making sure that anyone alongside him and he was safe. If safety wasn’t taken into account missions could be put in jeopardy, and fast. Thus the cheetah always made sure to keep a certain amount of caution no matter what situation they ended up in.
“Yes.” He responded with a single word. He took a few seconds longer to think up what to say regarding the following question. He hadn’t really been briefed on the mission in great detail, only told that they needed to spy on a larger group passing through the area. “We’re just keeping an eye on a group of rogues, right?” He asked for confirmation. Resting on Temi’s shoulder was Bamidele. The avian seemed tired, but kept an eye open to watch the area. He yawned and stretched out his wings as he readjusted his position of Temi’s back. “Do you want me to scout up ahead?” He asked both spies he was in the company of at the moment.

Kacivu approved of the wariness he sensed in the cheetah. They'd need that tonight. They would be severely outnumbered and couldn't let themselves become flanked or captured. It wasn't much, but it was the basic gist of it. "Right enough. We'll turn them away if we can should they come too close to the boundaries. If not you'll run back and warn Nawja." Should he call her queen or leader? It really was a tough choice. Being a hybrid she'd never have cubs.
The wild dog eyed the bird with the cheetah enviously. How he wanted a bird familiar! It wouldn't be polite to steal it from his pridemate though. Pity. He'd keep his eyes open for a free bird. Kacivu nodded his approval to the bird's suggestion. "Fly ahead and let us know when we're getting close." He gave a nod to Temitope to move out. This couldn't wait.

Temi nodded solemnly. Good, good. So he did get the gist of what they were doing correct. “Right.” He added, in case Kacivu hadn’t looked at him as he nodded. Nawja, Queen, Leader, Bossmother. He had heard several different variations of other members of the group saying her name. When Temitope spoke of her he usually took his own spin of one of those pet names so he ended up saying something like Queenmother, Leader-lady, Boss Nawja or something like that. He had been informed by Bamidele that his attempts to ‘muck up her name’ sounded stupid. Whatever, Temi didn’t care. He just knew it was usually his job to inform her if anything went sour, and fast.
Kacivu didn’t seem to have his own bird or other familiar for that matter. Hmm. Temi found himself pondering just how many missions the wild dog had been on, but he shoved those thoughts away for another time. He needed to focus on the mission right now.
He turned around and nodded to Bami, “Go.”Bami seemed pleased with a small crackle of a laugh to be doing something that would help. He lifted himself off of Temitope’s back and soared up above the two and gazed down at them briefly. Then he focused ahead and flew at a steady pace. As soon as he spotted the travellers he’s swoop down to his master and inform the two spies of the situation.

Kacivu was delighted with the cheetahs quick grasp of their task. It made everything run smoother. He did approve that the bird waited until his partner told him to go instead of when the leader said to go. Or should he have gone when Kacivu said to go? That would be a problem to muddle through another time. "We're moving out." Obviously. The wild dog snapped his jaws shut on another stupid comment and moved quickly, heading out after the bird.
He felt bad the cheetah would have to hold himself back to not outpace the slower wild dog. But what they really needed his speed for was on the return trip so it made sense to stick together for now. "How are you settling in?" The male dog talked as he moved into the ground-eating lope of his kind. He could keep this up for hours.

Temi nodded at the wild dog as he announced their leaving. He didn’t mind that he was an obvious observation of the wild dog to make, for Temi wasn’t the most social cheetah to ever live. Actually, for that reason alone he had to take several seconds before deciding on how to respond to his companion’s question.
“I’m settling… Well.” He muttered. “It’s different… But a good kind of different, y’know?” He sure hoped he did because Temi wasn’t one to try and elaborate on his thoughts.
"And you?" He inquired. "You're settling in well?"Bami kept flying at a steady course. He slowed only briefly, to glanced downward as his cheetah master and the wild dog accompanying them on the mission walked slowly towards the group of travellers. Making a mental note of the speed they were travelling and the amount of tree coverage hiding them, the vulture sped up his flight.
The good news was that they were closer then he had originally thought they might be to the rogues. They still had a ways to go, but they were getting hot on their trail. The bad news was that their little spy team was severely outnumbered…
Turning tail Bami retraced his flight pattern best he could before descending closer to the ground. “Up ahead!” He warned his comrades in as quiet of a tone as he could manage while still being heard.

CaliWolfe Uh I think you missed Temi's reply. XD Kacivu kept an eye trained above on the black spot that was the bird. How lucky he was to be able to fly free and so high like that. With Bami scouting ahead for them, he put most of his focus on traversing the terrain as best as they could and his companion. The wild dog considered the slow reply from the cheetah. There wasn't too many of each specie here yet. It could be awkward for some. Maybe Temi just needed to find a nice girl cheetah.
"Are you? Don't need nothing?" He queried curiously. It sounded like something was missing. The cheetah would tell him if he wanted to. "Oh very well. I do like it here. Wish there was more ladies about." Kacivu gave a randy laugh and bumped the cheetah on the shoulder in bachelor companionship.
With the return of Bami, the male was all business again. He slowed his pace and started to move quieter and stealthier. "Let's see what we have here. Bami, did you get a count on their numbers when you flew over?" It'd help to know strengths.

“No, don’t need anything, just..” The cheetah sighed, and took that moment to try and string his thoughts together in a coherent sentence. “...Not like it used to be. It’ll take time to get used to everyone and everything.” Yes, that was it. All the people. When it was just him and Bami things were kept mostly quiet. Rogues tended to be spaced out here and there, so he had few encounters with others that weren’t his bird.
He didn’t laugh per say but there was no mistake that Temitope did chuckle. The thought of woman made him contemplate whether or a day would come where the ladies overnumbered the men in the pride, and proceeded to run the sorry lads out. That would be a story to tell!“Yes.” Bami spoke immediately, then shook his head. “Well, n-no. I counted some of them and when I realized we’re waaaay outnumbered I just turned and headed back.” It was a stupid mistake on his behalf. Should have counted ALL of them before he turned around.
Bah, well that didn’t matter anymore did it? “I saw at least ten of ‘em sitting there, resting up.”

Kacivu knew the pride had to get bigger to support itself sufficiently. He hoped Temitope could adapt. "I understand," or he thought he did. Maybe he was just more flexible than the cheetah. Time would tell, but he hoped Temitope stuck with it. That was a minor matter compared to this.
The wild dog laughed at the bird's chagrin. "Don't want to know how badly we're outnumbered eh? Can't blame you." That meant they were completely out numbered. The odds stacked against them. Not really where he wanted to be, but they were ninjas! "Ok, here's the plan. Temitope, you and I are gonna build a small barricade to make it look impassible through here. Then we'll have Bami act if he's just flying out of the area and kindly warn them of the hazards ahead of them and advise them to turn aside." He looked at them, hoping they didn't see any flaws in the plan.
