Ness returned this late morning to the spot. This very spot she had spied out of the corner of her eye as she was fluttering by. She was almost certain she had seen what looked like a very pale colored ulaya cub. It was the color of stone. The day Ness had passed by; she wondered to herself if that baby was ok. Where was the mother? Was it nearby? Ness knew better though. While the island was friendly to most; there were occassionally predators. Sometimes, it ate parents, siblings, friends. Not to mention the rumors she's overheard while perching near small communes. Talk of demons... more demons now than there had been before. Was that because many feared the gods had left this land, abandoning its people?
Ness wasn't sure about all of that. At one time, she didn't even believe in gods until she met Thona. Then, her chain of run in's with a few others had helped her realize they did exist. Moreover, not all of them had left.
Still, feeling compelled to check on the wee one, Ness fluttered softly to the ground where she had seen that small one. Ness creeped around through the tall grass looking for it.

Grass, all over. So much of it! She came out of the box and tumbled into grass. Green pokey things and she could hardly walk and she was so over whelmed with smells and things and oh what was that bright thing? The yellow thing that hut her eyes in the...in the up there? So much!
And pretty things with smelly good to them. Bright pinks and purples and some blue things. She liked those. She wiggled and tried to find her feet and stand. Her legs shook and trembled as she pushed up and looked around but then flopped back to the ground.
"Ooof..." She said as she grumbled and then heard something odd about around her. She looked up and sees another thing coming towards her and looking down at her. She smiles happily and wiggles excitedly as she tries to stand up again.

Pausing and peering her ears up, Ness stopped. Then, she heard it. The soft moving of grass. She followed around trying to get closer. Like a game of hot and cold.
"Hello? If you can hear me... say.... fishie... fishie fishie..."
Then, she followed around until she could see a patch of grass moving.
"Hey, where's your mom at?"
Real good Ness. Way to be subtle. Her white wings opening up and letting light pass through. The light breaking into tiny rainbows on the ground around her.
"Hey, come here..."

The little thing smiled up at her and listened to her words. She had never heard anything talk before having only recently come out of her box. "Fwshie....Ishie...F-Fishie!" she said with a giggle as she managed to stand up well on her feet and stumble towards the female and nom on her leg. "Fishie!" she said not sure what it ment or why she was saying it but it was a new thing she learned now! Looking up at the lady she smiled as she tried to reach out and paw at her wing.
"Mom....Where...Mom?" She asked as she looked around and then up at her. "Mom?" She said as she nuzzled into the female and giggled happily as she rolled to the ground and onto her back and pawed at the female again. "MOM!" she said happily as she giggled loudly.

Ness looked down. For a moment, her concern over this kit not being with it's mother went on pause. She knelt down. Feeling it nuzzle against her, Ness felt herself swell with warm fuzzy feelings.
"Awww.. well aren't you just a cutie!!!"
Ness's paw gently started to pat and then stroke the head of this little one. Ness then picked her up gently to have a look at her. Determining this at glance looks like a female. Ness thought she could be mistaken,but not being this child's mother; she felt she was best not taking that close of a look.
Finally, setting her back down. Ness sat down lower on the ground with paws on her thighs. "Hi there! I'm Ness! Moms are... well... little cuties like you are usually born from a mom. I am guessing you must have gotten separated some how. Maybe a creature took your box. Are you hungry?"
She wondered how long this baby had been out here. It hadn't gotten far from when she passed it the day before. She then looked around as to what would be good to eat. She gently kept petting the baby. Ness just smiled away making cute baby faces at her.

She looked around and giggled loudly and wiggled happily as she was picked up and looked at and grabbed at the ladys face and nuzzled her before being put down. She pranced around, now having the hang of this walking thing. "Mom! Mom!" she said as she flopped onto the female and nommed on her playfully. She looked up to her and giggled. "Born? Mom? Eat? Ya!" she said as her tummy growled and she squeaked in fear and fell off the lady as she sat up and looked at her belly. She poked her furry belly and then looked at the lady. "What?" she asked as she looked a little upset and scared about why her body made weird noises.
"You mom? Who me?" she asked with a smile. She was picking up things easily as she kept listening to this female talk but it was still so new to her as she listened to new strange words and sounds from the other.

Ness looked a little awkward for a moment. Did the little one just ask if she were mommy? Oh no. Inwardly, Ness felt a squishy twist in her innards as the concept of being a mother seemed unappealing and off putting. No. She wasn't ready for that yet.
Still, here was this little one. She couldn't just walk away now could she even if part of her felt like the challenge of this situation called to her to run away.
Ness mimicked the girl's tummy rub. "That's called being hungry! That means we need to find you something to eat. Hmm.. We can try a few things! Let's start with berries! There should be some nearby."
Then, Ness was about to flutter, but she saw the little one didn't have wings. Ok. Walking it was! Ness then petted her head a little. "Awww.. it'll be ok. Don't worry! I won't abandon you." At least not yet.... what to do about that part....
"Let's head over this way..." Ness recalled some trees with surrounding bushes that had thin branches full of freshly blooming spring berries. They weren't always very filling to her. They were practically like a candy. Still, it might be enough for such a small tummy. If her appetite persisted, then Ness would consider more pertinent means.

The little girl looked at her and rolled over and onto her feet and stood back up. "Hungry. Food!" she said happily at the idea of what she might get now. So many new things! As the female walked along the little one followed her and pranced around, playing with grass or flowers, that she ran around as she followed the nice lady.
She didn't know what things were and she chewed on things and found the flowers were not yummy and the grass less so. She spit them out and made an icky noise as she drooled the gross taste of flowers from her mouth. She ran along with the lady and looked around. She didn't know what to call her or what to call her self...should she call her self something? She didn't know. She looked up and watched the sky and tripped over her own feet and rolled into the grass, laughing now at the sudden change in things.
She looked up and a berry bush was over her head and one of the berries did look yummy and she sat up and ate it, laughing and smiling as she ate it and began looking for more.

Ness continued to listen to and observe the little one. Ness marveled at how freshly born she must be. She started listening more to how she was sounding out words. How she was tasting everything. Ness felt troubled about leaving her alone more than she did the last time. She also consulted herself whether she was really cut out to be mothering anyone.
Ness walked over and picked her up again to look at her face more closer. "Hmmm... well hey, I'm Ness! Wonder what I should call you for now... " Then ness put her down gently and started leading the way towards the water. If she was still hungry after the berries; next to try was fish.
"Ok. Stick close to me ok? I'm gonna get us some heartier foods. You should try some fish. I'll help you." Ness smiled at her and stroked the top of the little one's head. Ness contemplated the pros and cons of what right she had to even name this child who didn't belong to her.

The little one looked around as she was carried again and liked the view of thing all around from that height. She laughed and giggled as she looked up at the lady before she put her back down. She smiled. "Ness! Mom! Mom Ness!" she said happily as she giggled and leaned into the ladies leg and licked her fur happily.
She watched her walk to the water and perked up, new things! She scrambled after her and looked at the stuff. "NESS!" she cried out as she excitedly looked at the image of Ness in the water and tried to touch it. When the water touched her she gasped and leaped back before hissing at it and then leaping at the weird stuff and smacking at it for making her foot wet and cold. She lowered her ears and slapped at the water over and over again angrily as it kept making her wet all over.

Ness started fishing up a few assortments of fish. As she'd check often and quickly on the little one. She heard her saying mom. Ness burrowed her brows. Maybe that was her own fault. This little one seemed to be learning words from her. She did ask if she had a mom or where she was.
It wouldn't have been much of a big deal either. Only that for Ness the immediate thought of being called mom got lumped in with being labeled as someone's lover, wife, or things of that sort. It all went to a place that gave her anxiety.
What to do what to do...... Then, Ness looked over to watch her play with the water. The hissing made Ness's mouth part with laughter. The more she lept at it. The laughing just continued to rise without much ability to stop it.
Finally, Ness had a fish and started to open it up preparing it into chunks. She hoped chunks made eating easier for the little one. "I should give you a name of some kind. You wouldn't even need to keep it forever. Just to call you something. I need to decide what would be good for you. I fear if I just left you out here to fend for yourself; that might be a bad karma move. I might eat guilt for a while knowing I had done that one."

The little one heard noises coming from the Mom lady and looked up as she stood in the ankle deep water and watching her as she laughed. "Mom?" she asked before seeing the fishy things on the ground and prancing forward and sniffing at the stuff. Ohhhhh that looked neat! She looked up at her and smiled.
"Fish? Hungry?" she asked as she sniffed a cube that the Mom Lady had cut up and snagged it and chewed on it as she looked at her and listened to her talk about names. "Name? Likes forever!" she said as she smiled and wagged her tail happily as she reached out and pulled another fishy cube to her and ate it too. She didnt know what it meant to get a name but she was excited about it.

Ness felt like smacking herself. Great. First she teaches her the word Mom. Now, she's being called mom. Maybe she just doesn't really know what a mom is. Ness pursed her lips together thinking that was a bit sad. Her and her own mother didn't have a very close relationship, but as far back as she could remember. Her mother did at least keep her around and feed her.
"Does that taste good? Here..." Ness cut up some slightly bigger and varying in larger size chunks, so they could see just what the little one could eat. Ness stole a small corner for herself and decided to fish up a few more.
Ness having heard what she said; she then peered back at her quizzically for a few moments.
"That's cute~! Maybe I should just call you 'Forever' for a while then? Eventually, you'll grown into a better and more fitting name. Maybe for an even shorter nickname; I can call you Evs..."
As Ness rolled it around, her blue eyes glistened. Her free paw went down to pet little Evs while she ate.
Then, Ness turned to face her and pointed to the little girl. "Forever." Ness then pointed to herself. "Ness!"

The little one ate several more pieces of fish as she was handed them and chewed on them happily. She had been feeling very hungry for sure. She was super happy to eat something so yummy. She was happy about having food and having a Mom Lady! She watched her as she talked to her and thought about what she was saying.
Forever was her name? That was interesting! "Evs. Forevers." she said with a giggle as she nodded and wiggled. She listened to her and licked her paws when she was done eating as she watched her tell her her name and Moms name.
Tilting her head a little confused she smiled. "Mom Lady Ness?" she said reaching out and touching her leg. "Forever." she said as she touched her own chest. She liked that. She smiled wide and zoomed into the Mom Lady Ness's legs and in against her belly and curled all around in the warm belly of her and purred as she cuddled her and curled up all snugly against her and smiled her cute face up at her from between her front legs.

"We need a plan. I gotta think of one. Well, for now... maybe we should go make a shelter to hide you. When night time comes, there are lots of creatures that come out. Many might try to eat little ulayas... Let's head for those trees over there. We can take some vines and bush branches to make a little hedge to hide under. We can make a better plan later."
Ness got up petting little Evs on her head. Ness thought quickly how the little one was making all of these indentifications. She giggled. It occured to her that while she did generally like children well enough. She had never been around any quite this young.
If she kept sticking around, was this girl gonna age up into toddler and youth thinking of her as a caretaker? What did it really mean to be a mom... Was life just out to challenge her into motherhood of a sort?
