She didn't know why it bothered her so much today. Maybe she hadn't sat under her sunlamp long enough. But when she had gone to get her lunch that day she had overheard a group speaking in the third person. That in itself was fine, it wasn't as if she had a patent on a particular style of speech, but the fact that they'd started giggling and whispering when they saw her had proven that it had been mockery. It wasn't a first, far from it. She'd thought she was used to it, but it felt like a stab in the back. She'd worked with one of them on a class assignment, and had thought they were getting along. Apparently not.
She hadn't had co-op that day. There was no reason for her to go to the Academy, but there she went anyway. She'd been teased all her life for choosing to be a little different, and she still didn't understand why. With all the diversity that existed in the world, with all the cultures and beliefs, clothing styles and physical differences, why was the way someone talked considered worthy of mockery? Oh she knew better than to think it was really true, that other people who chose to be different weren't made fun of, but right then it felt very singular, very personal. So she ran to the Academy where so far she hadn't noticed any teasing toward her, where she even seemed to be liked and she curled up under a tree that had been her 'friend' since she herself had been a student there and waited to feel better.Gin Rin Hope this is workable. smile

T'kani wandered into the quad between classes, having an okay day so far. Nothing too exciting had happened, but neither had anything bad. The teacher of her social studies class had announced an upcoming test, but that wouldn't be until next week. She would start studying that night, of course, but there was no dread of impending doom about the test itself. Not yet, at least. Then there was the test for her science class that she was excited to get back, but they had taken it yesterday, so she wasn’t expecting it to be handed back for at least another day. She really liked the teacher for that class, but they seemed to have a very busy life. All of this left the Imp in sort of a neutral mood, though she still had the majority of the day left, so that would probably change before her last class.
Glancing around as she walked through the quad, she spotted the familiar Fey curled up under a tree, her heart immediately sinking at the sight. She had never seen Naosu in the Academy outside of the nurse’s office; she had graduated from here, of course, but they hadn’t crossed paths before she had moved on to the university. Seeing her here, especially when she looked so down, made the Imp want to simply pick up her friend and cuddle her worries away.
Quickly making her way over to the tree, she set her bag down and crouched next to her friend, reaching out to rest a clawed hand on their shoulder. Cuddling could wait for a moment, there was no use making things worse by spooking her from being scooped up. Even if they were friends, a little warning was due before such things.Ebonrune emotion_kirakira cat_crying heart

Naosu looked up in surprise when a hand touched her shoulder and she looked at T'kani with wide eyes. Wide eyes that within moments were filling up with tears as her lip wobbled. She had been pretty good about not crying yet, but with T'kani there the waterworks could no longer be held back. Here was someone who Naosu was sure wouldn't make fun of her, a true friend who wouldn't be nice to her face and cruel behind her back.
"Why are people so mean?" She asked. "Naosu's never hurt anybody, but they make fun of her. They always make fun of her. Naosu doesn't know why it bothers her so much today, but Naosu is upset!" She reached for her T'kani's hands, even knowing her friend wouldn't be able to talk to her in so doing. "Naosu is glad T'kani is here. She is glad to see a friend." She let go of her hands again and sniffling, wiped at her face with her hands. "Naosu is glad T'kani is here." She said again. "Naosu didn't really want to be alone."

T’kani frowned slightly as her friend seemed to crumble in front of her, gently squeezing the Fey’s hands as she spoke, worrying her lower lip as she listened to her friend. Was it someone from the Academy? Probably not, which meant she most likely wouldn’t be able to confront the person about hurting one of the kindest people she knew. Frustrating, certainly, but she was here and could do her best to comfort her friend.
She smiled lightly and shifted, kneeling on the hard stones before slipping her arms around the Fey, taking care not to damage her wings or the flower on her chest. Rubbing her friend’s back slowly, she rests her chin on her shoulder, hoping to convey in actions what she couldn’t in words. Certainly she could attempt to say something soothing if she were able, but having to rely on sign language seemed too clumsy and limited for a situation like this.Ebonrune She's itching to pick her up for cuddles. xD

Naosu practically burrowed against her friend, already feeling better just from the contact alone. It didn't take much to upset her sometimes, but it was just as easy to help her feel better. Just the solid reminder that someone cared was all she needed now.
She stuck her tongue out slightly, and then sighed. "Naosu is glad T'kani is here. She thinks maybe she was hoping T'kani would find her. You're very soft. Naosu is happy to have a good friend who is also a soft friend." She smiled sheepishly. "Thank you." She signed it awkwardly one-handed afterward, just to show her friend that she was still working on it. One thing she didn't want to dwell on was the cruelty of people who didn't bother to take joy in differences. Now if only her mind would stop dwelling on it anyway.Gin Rin Cuddles are always welcome! razz

T’kani smiled at Naosu’s kind words, nodding as they embraced, pulling away after a moment to see the Fey sign to her. Cheeks tinting slightly, she took the girl’s hands in her own, holding them gently while she signed a response. Or...no that wouldn't work… She blushed a little more and squeezed Naosu’s hands before slipping her own away to respond. “I'm glad I could be here for you. The moment I saw you out here by the tree, I knew something was wrong. I'm...glad you enjoy my company, as well.”
She sat back slightly, letting her tail curl up around her legs as she settled across from her friend once again. Her next class would be in a few minutes, but she didn’t think there was anything important going on, she could easily get notes from someone else later. Nodding slightly to herself, she looked up at Naosu again and signed to her. “What’s gotten you upset like this? Is there anything I can do to help?”

Naosu watched T'kani's hands carefully to be sure she didn't miss anything, and then smiled mirthlessly and reached out to pat her friend's fluffy tail. "Because of how Naosu likes to talk, people sometimes make fun of her." She said, stopping to put her hands on her own lap in case T'kani didn't like her tail being molested.
"Naosu makes a choice, and they make fun of her. So Naosu could stop talking like this, she could talk like others talk, but why should she have to? Not everyone even has that choice. We're all so different, so diverse in everything, so why is the way Naosu talks something to be mocked? Why mock at all?" She pursed her trembling lips, not wanting to cry again. "Why are people so cruel?"

T’kani’s ears perked up as she listened attentively to her friend, frowning at her words, already feeling defeated against this phantom of cruelty. There wasn’t anything she could do about people from the university, as it sounded like was the case, which made her feel a little helpless at the plight. Her ears drooped as the Fey looked on the verge of tears again, desperate to comfort her friend and break her out of the spiral into sadness.
Well, there was something she could do. Shifting into a crouch, she leaned forward and slipped her arms under the Fey, nonchalantly picking her up off the ground. Rearranging her legs to settle comfortably on the ground, T’kani smiled cheerfully at her friend as she held her in her lap, ever careful of her delicate parts. It was a little sudden, certainly, but hopefully it would convey the right message. She was rendered silent again while her hands were holding the other female, but that didn't bother her so much for now.

Naosu squeaked in surprise when she was picked up and blinked owlishly at her friend. After the initial moment of shock however, she snuggled close and curled up as best she could while remaining comfortable. T'kani was soft, and she was very nice too. Naosu felt better already. For all the cruelty in the world, she wasn't alone. She had a friend, her very best friend in fact.
"Naosu is so lucky to have T'kani." She said and sniffled, wiping her eyes as tears sprang up for another reason. She was so very lucky to have met her friend, and she was so grateful to her. Maybe in a twisted way she could be grateful to the bullies, since it meant that now she got to be cuddled. Their meanness meant Naosu got to spend time with her friend, so neener on them.
