xxxxxBasic Traits Strong Willed, Jealous, and Suspicious
xxxxxIn Depth Rajani is a strong willed girl. She's not afraid to take initiative on things or to take the lead. This was a trait that she kept with her when things got difficult. When she was little more than a youngling she was taken away by a small group of Obans, of course this was duing the war. Her will is what kept her from breaking while under the control of her Oban masters. When she would take the initiative to lead the other servants she was rewarded for such behavior, so long as she led them in a positive way accordin to her masters. Her strong will was viewed by most as both positive and negative since she did have a bit of stubborness thrown into the mix. Rajani often recieved punishment when she used her will to defy the Obans she served.
Due to her situation Rajani would often become jealous of the Oban kids who had their mothers' arms to run to. It was something she wanted back but was unable to reach. During her time under the watchful eye of her Oban masters she soon began to hate and fear physical touch. While she was often green with envy at how other kids had that love from their parents she knew she could never accept such tenderness if it was given to her. Many punishments that had ended in a lashing or two had taught her that being touched by someone wasn't a good thing. Then there was the advances she had to avoid. All in all, touch became something she hated despite the longing inside.
There is also a deep seeded suspicion in her that everyone is out to help themselves and no one else. It makes it hard for Rajani to trust others even a little bit. This is because of just how she was taken from her homeland. (See History.) When she meets new people she is instantly worried that they want something from her or are out to help themselves.
As far as her relationships with her family goes, well she's torn. Rajani loves her parents, or at least the memory of them. In her mind they are still the two loving people who brought her into the world and cared for her up until the day she was no longer with them. Rajani has never met her sister, Henu, since the younger girl was born after she went missing. However, there is a deep set hate and distrust for Elsif, her older brother. If it came down to it she feels that she would attack her older sibling without thinking.
xxxxxFears Abandonment, Being touched, and Deep Water
xxxxxQuirks Loves to eat
xxxxxLikes Food of all kinds, fresh air, and butterflies
xxxxxHistory As a youngling still living with her family she was pretty normal and outgoing. Always playing with the village kids and bringing home stray animals, whether they were dangerous or not. It wasn't until the war really started that her life changed. Her dad was called upon to help out, which wasn't all that abnormal.
One day her brother, Elsif and her decided to get a closer look at the fighting that was taking place. So they ventured out and left their home behind to follow after their father. They never got close enough though. Instead they came face to face with a small rogue group of Obans. It was the cowardly act of her big brother that ended her in the clutches of the fire earthlings. Elsif took off running and left Rajani behind. From that moment on her fear of abandonment sank in and took hold.
Her parents were devastated by the loss of their daughter and searched for her. Elsif never told them what happened so they looked in all the wrong places. Her brother was too ashamed to tell them that he had run away leaving his little sister behind to be taken away. After some years her parents started to believe that their young child had died. While they never forgot her they tried to go on with their lives. Now they have another daughter that they guard heavily.
Rajani was taken from Jauhar and placed in the home of a noble family where she was turned into a servant. Mostly she was to clean the house and if the children of the family wished it then she would play with them for small entertainment. She refused at first, crying all the time and wanting her family, but eventually she learned to do the chores to avoid punishment. During her time as a servant she also came to dislike and fear being physically touched. She learned that it was harmful and not welcome in any way. This is how she ended up with the scars on her neck. One from the chafing of a collar and the other from the blade of a knife. The scar left by the knife is from an encounter with the second son of the Oban family she served. He had teased her about being nothing more than breeding stock for his family's pleasure and she hit him. He retaliated by slamming her against the wall and cutting her neck. Originally he had intended to kill her but his mother walked in on the scene and stopped him since Rajani was the only servant that could do her hair and makeup the way she liked.
There was a silver lining to her captivity, however, since she made a friend while there. Rajani and a matori servant usually stuck together over the years. It was this friend of hers that gave her the shell necklace she wears around her neck. A memento to a small light in the darkness.
Once the war ended she was released from her servitude and left on her own once again. That abandonment had crept up on her just like the first. While she might not like the Oban family she had spent most of her life with she had grown used to their presence. So being cast aside, just as she had been by her own brother, hurt. Rajani left Oba after that to return to Jauhar. At first she thought it was so she could find her family again but the closer she got to that goal the more she realized she didn't want to face them. She didn't want to tell her parents that it was their son, her own brother, who had let her get taken away from them. Rajani might hate Elsif but her parents didn't.
So instead, when she reached her homeland, she decided to wander the woods. Rajani is on the hunt for a place that she can settle, though there is no hurry for that.
