What's Important

Opens: May 1st

  3. Your post should include the article your student chose, why they chose it, and what they thought of it. Be as detailed (or not) as you like!
  4. There is no set word length for this assignment, just make sure all the pertinent information is included in your post.
  5. Repeats are fine.
  6. Feel free to PM me with any questions/concerns!

Tancred nodded looking over his test results, it fit him to a tea and reinforced his belief that psych was an orderly proper subject for him. Tan knew he was introvert, a thinker and a judge. They were all parts of his personality. He finished his test and handed it in to the teacher.

Arabelle flipped through the pile of papers to be graded, reading through each one. It was a completion grade more than anything, a fun assignment. It was interesting to see how each of her students had approached the test. The pile shrank until she had a neat stack of graded assignments. As each student shuffled in for class that afternoon, she handed back their papers.

(Thanks Jinx heart )

Tancred thought about the question and he said "There is positive and negative reinforcement, I personally prefer positive. If a teacher or parent is working with young freshlings they might perhaps offer a reward for good behavior such as stickers on a behavior chart or some little prize for so many chores done. I myself reward myself for good behavior and a clean organized desk by buying myself more paper clips to organize and cleaning supplies I find it helps keep motivated to doing what I need to do, in that case keeping my area neat and clean." Tan nodded calmly, fairly confident in his answer.

User ImageEliot sat down in the psych class and started writing his answer to the assignment he was excited to start on the road to his goal, he wanted to become a caretaker someday or work in a daycare center. He loved kids and hoped to have some of his own some day. Eliot wrote "I have found working with kids positive reinforcement is a great incentive to motivate, balanced with negative reinforcement, for example, if the freshling gets their homework home early they receive a sticker on a chart to earn a reward. When misbehaving they lose privileges like no recess or a time out. There are many other reward and balances that can be used with freshlings to motivate them to a goal, for example, pride in what they are doing, encouraging them and complimenting them when they have done a good job cleaning their play area." Eliot nodded as he wrote a few other paragraphs to finish his paper.

Arabelle hummed thoughtfully as she graded the papers. She might have to expand on the lesson at some point later in the semester, especially with the emotional and mental affects and how they differed per age ranges. She jotted a note down in her lesson planner, then finished grading the papers, pleased to see how her students were coming along.

Next lesson is up. I might expand the close date since I was late in getting it up in the first place (sorry!), so if anyone misses the deadline just go ahead and post anyway and I'll accept it.

User ImageTancred considered the question and what he knew from his own life, the reasons he lined up paper clips when he was stressed. The why of the matter, so many things could cause stress, noise, news, commuting. Sometimes sleeping more, exercising, eating more carefully can help with stress, but sometimes that is not enough and sleep can become hard to manage. Ignoring stress problems can cause a stress cycle trying to fix stressful situations with things that might make the patient feel good for a time, but end in a crash. For example using drinking to soften the feeling of stress but the stress is still there when the hangover wears off. Some would suggest medicine or magical fixes to the stress cycle. Tancred, however, wrote "I would suggest therapy, rather than medicine or magical means."

User ImageEliot wasn't sure how he felt about this stress cycle article, on the one hand using medicine in some cases was a good idea, but on the other, he felt that medicine was overused and talking out the problem with a professional or a friend was a better idea. Eliot had a tender heart, if it was one of the kids he worked with stuck in a stress cycle, Eliot would do everything in his power to help them with means other than medicine before turning to a doctor to medicate the freshling. He wrote as much in his psyc. paper.

Arabelle tapped a pen against the papers she was grading. She felt like a few key points had been missed and couldn't pass the papers, but she didn't want to outright fail her students either. She took out her red ink pen and wrote instructions at the top of each essay for what the student could do to earn full credit for their assignment.

Tancred
Give me two scenarios of someone in a stress cycle, and how you would use therapy to help them break out of it.

Midnightglow18
Eliot
Give me two examples, one adult and one child, of someone in a stress cycle, including reasoning for why it is a stress cycle rather than just normal stresses, and what you would do to help the person break free of the cycle.

PM responses (or questions/concerns/etc.) to jinxgirl5 to receive credit for the last lesson, which I placed in a spoiler below in case you need a refresher. I will update this post with your passes for confirmation once you have done so.
Class Activity

Stress Cycles

Opens: August 14th
Closes: August 31st, 11:59pm CST

"Stress is an everyday part of our lives that can impact us in both positive and negative ways, as long as we are able to deal with it. There can come a point though when one goes from simply feeling stressed to being caught in a stress cycle. For your homework I'd like you to list three differences between "regular" stress and stress cycles, and how you feel one can break free of such a cycle."

Rules

  1. Post a roleplay response in thread of your student's answer to the above question, and of them turning their assignment in to Arabelle.
  2. Response should be at least 100 words long.
  3. You can look through [Psychology Today] to get ideas if you'd like. Here's the specific [article] I went through.
  4. Repeats are fine.

January class is open!
PostPosted: Sun Jan 15, 2017 11:53 am

Link User Image Tancred decided to watch the video about what a bedroom can tell about a person. Then he looked at his own room. He had his bookcase organized by title and alphabetized. There were no dirty clothes on his floor. Tancred's room was organized in a very uptight sort of way and it showed loudly in the way he kept his dorm room. He was glad the other side of his dorm was currently empty he shuttered to think about having a messy disorganized roommate. Tancred always used a calendar to keep track of dates so he never forgot an appointment. Everything else and organized at his desk, Tancred's OCD personality showed in his room. Tancred nodded the video made sense and was interesting to listen to. In a way, the way he organized his things felt like a feelings object since things out of place upset him. He didn't use candles or music much to calm down he just needed a quiet organized room to be happy keeping mostly to himself.
