Margret scribbled on a piece of paper as Goob rested quietly on her desk. She always loved when he was around to keep her company. She patted his slimy head and smiled. She was mostly used to this by now, though it still made her fur bristle.
She wiped her hand on her sweater, looking around her empty room before getting back to her scribbling. The drawing was of herself and her brother and sister in a forest. They all were holding hands and smiling. She leaned back in her chair humming to herself and reminiscing on their past adventures. She was always so worried about them getting lost or hurting themselves when they went out. She wanted them to all have a good time but also be safe.
She pulled out a book from under her desk that looked short and easy to read. It was about a character who made charms in a little shop for people who needed them. They would get all kinds of requests, small things usually, like a charm to help with courage. The charms always wore off of course, but the customers would always come back for another. The customers would pay with food or trinkets and the charm maker was just fine with that. They always were happy to do it and everyone benefited from their interactions. Honestly, not the most interesting book, but Margret enjoyed reading it.
As much as she liked this story, she really wished for more. Making charms were a common thing that many of the bakenekos did. Charms didn't last long either. If she was going to protect anyone she would need to do more. What would be nice is if the charms would last a bit longer and maybe helped out a bit more.
Then it came to her. Her black and pink ears twitched happily. She could just learn how to do enchantments! Then everyone could be protected for way longer than just a charm. She wouldn't mind making charms too, but enchantments could help everyone!
Margret stood up, grabbing the sleeping slime ball off her desk. "Would you like an enchanted collar, Goob?" She spun the pink slime around laughing. "Then nothing bad would happen for sure!" That's how it worked, right? She didn't know much about enchanting things, but she could always go to the library and find more books on it. Goob wiggled in her hands and smiled tiredly. "Oh, oh! Sorry!" She put the squishy slime in his bed by her desk, once again wiping the goo from her hands and checking, even double checking, that no goop was on the floor.
Margret had to plan this out carefully. She wanted to find all the information she could on enchanting. Maybe the caretakers could enchant and they could teach her! Or they knew someone who could! She practically vibrated with excitement. She couldn't wait to start on this adventure. It was practically like going exploring with her siblings! She couldn't wait to tell them and start enchanting things for them to make sure that they stay safe.
