Having just gotten her tray of food a little later than all the others in her class, Jacintha began to look around for a spot to sit for her lunch break. She was having trouble finding a spot to sit for the first time since starting classes here at the academy. Was it because she had gotten her food so much later than everyone else? Maybe that was the reason, but she knew that this was a chance to meet someone new! How so? Easy, it meant she could sit by someone she hadn't ever talked to before, but who would it be was the real question. There were lots of spots she could sit to do that, but which one to choose?

Niamh sighed as she sat down at the second to last seat in the cafeteria. Or at least it was the only ones she could find, and now she felt all alone. She'd been a little late, and everyone she knew was already seated at tables with no room for her. She'd found this little two seater, but she hated eating alone, and she wasn't allowed to bring any of her familiars to classes, let alone the caf.
Niamh sighed again, and began to set her lunch up. At least today's meal was awesome... Spaghetti, with meat sauce and meatballs for the non vegetarians, Garlic Bread, green beans lightly sauteéd in butter... And chocolate cake for dessert! Nothing could be better, foodwise!

Seeing the other freshling sitting by themselves and eating spaghetti, Jacintha knew exactly who they wanted to sit by. Not only that, but they looked like they could use a friend for the time being. Heading over to the chimera, she sat down next to them and smiled ", Hello! I'm Jacintha! Oh... is it okay if I sit by you? I kind of just sat down next to you without asking because you looked kind of lonely here by yourself and I thought you wouldn't mind the company. So is it okay if I sit here with you?"

Niamh looked up, surprised, when the other chair was pulled out. She blinked at the imp freshling. Some one new to her, certainly! Another colorful child, like herself. Niamh wondered, idly, if the gods really liked candy colored kids or something, before refocusing on the other girl.
"Um... I'm Niamh! Of course you can. It's nice to meet you." She smiled warmly at her new companion. "I loath eating alone, so please, join me!" The social little chimera felt quite pleased!

"Yay!" she remained seated next to Niamh, getting comfortable before beginning to use her fork and twist her spaghetti onto it. It wasn't her most favorite food, but she sure did enjoy it! ", I don't like sitting alone either. Makes me feel so lonely and sad. That is why I always try to sit by someone, but today I couldn't sit by my friends. All the spots were taken. Must be because I came in so much later than I normally do. How about you Niamh? Why were you sitting alone?" She began to put her fork full of spaghetti into her mouth, making sure to not talk and chew at the same time. Many of her caretakers and teachers had told her that was very rude, so she was trying her best to not do that.

"Yeah, being alone is the worst." Niamh made an UGH face, wrinkling her little nose. "At least in my dorm room, I have my familiars to keep me company, but I can't bring them everywhere." She pouted a little for a second. "I wish I could, though! It'd be awesome!" She paused, then added "I guess unless some one was allergic. That wouldn't be so awesome."
She listened to the other half of what Jacintha said, while eating one of her meatballs. "Yeah, I was a little late too and... usually some one I know saves me a seat, so I was disappointed... But at least I get to make a new friend!"

"You have lots of familiars? I do too!" She quickly responded after swallowing her fork full of spaghetti, talking a sip of her carton of milk before continuing on with her trail of thought ", They're my best of friends. I have two Wisps, two Gryftoos, a Pumpka, a Fennekit, and a Aetherjelly. What about you Niamh? What types of familiars do you have?" Sure she could of continued on about her own familiars, but Jacintha was trying to get better at letting others speak, deciding to eat some more of her spaghetti first.

"Yeah! I do! I love them all, too! I have a jackalope, a pair of slimes, a griftoo, a nezubat, a salamander, and a fluffbug! I want more, but for now I'm really happy." Her little tail seemed to waggle in excitement as she thought about her smaller friends. "Animals are the friends you will always have, and who will love you forever, right?" She took another bite of her food, expression content at the thought of her little friends, and at the good food.

"You managed to catch some slimes when they were running around the campus? So cool! I wasn't able to even find any since I was playing with my Fennekit, Fern Tails, off campus at the park that day. And you have a Gryftoo too? Even cooler!" she reached into her bag to look for something, showing off a picture of her with her two Gryftoos ", The rainbow one is Sunbeam, and the black one is Nightbeam! They're my friends forever, along with all my other familiars! I love them all, and I sure hope they love me forever back!"

"I caught one... The other one, I found in my room the other day, just bouncing up and down with my first one, Carya." She sighed. "I have put up signs and such in case he's lost, but no one's replied. I'm not going to name him until I'm SURE no one else will come for him." She paused, and added softly "I'd get too attached, you know?"
She leaned over at the photo of the gryftoos, and smiled. She always loved their goofy silly faces. "They're lovely. I don't have any photos of mine... I don't have a camera or a friend who owns one." She shrugged a little, with a sigh. "It would be super cool though."

"You're trying to see if it is lost? That is so kind and thoughtful of you, and I agree. Once you name them you get really attached," She replied, putting her photo away and revealing a disposable camera to her new friend ", This is what I use. They'r cheap and I don't have to worry about something expensive getting ruined. I'd hate to drop a really expensive camera that someone bought me or that I bought. I would feel horrible! Maybe sometime I could bring my gryftoos over to your dorm and then they can meet yours? Then I could bring my camera over and take pictures of you with all your familiars!"

She looked curiously at the disposable camera. She'd heard of these but never seen one before. She nodded, though, understanding why Jacintha might choose to use that over a permanent one. "That's neat! Where did you get that?" She continued to eat, picking up her bread as she did. "And ooo gryftoo playdate? Sure! That'd be cool. My lil lad gets a bit lonely I think... The others don't play with him too much, sadly." She takes a deep bite of her bread and sighed.

"Hopefully my gryftoos can make yours feel not so lonely. She took a quick sip of her apple juice before putting her camera away. So Niamh had never seen one before? Huh, that was interesting to say the least ", I got it from a general store. You know, the ones that sell basic foods, supplies for like school and work, and other stuff like sometimes clothes and cooking tools? The one I got it from is right next to the academy campus, real close to my dorm building! I could take you sometime as well if you want?"

"I... don't go off campus much." She said, quietly. "I just... it's easier for me here?" She didn't want to talk about how she felt jealous when she saw other children, with families, or how she wanted siblings of her own, and to know who her parents were. That wasn't stuff she talked about to anyone. She brushed her braid back, and gave a slight shrug. "But yeah, maybe? That could be fun, it's something I haven't done. So... Playdate... Maybe next weekend?"

Niamh seemed nervous about going off campus, that emotion catching Jacintha's attention ", It is okay if you don't want to go off campus. I can get the camera for you by myself with a caretaker and give it to you at said playdate, except the playdate is in one of our dorms. If you aren't ready to go off campus yet I won't force you. It can be scary out there sometimes, especially since I don't have any family," the imp slouched some at the thought of no family, a bit of sadness seeping through her normally very happy demeanor. Then as quickly as it had come on, she was back to her smiley self ", I am fine with anything as long as I get to spend it with you!"
