She was excited for this. Annabelle Leigh had never once cooked more than mac and cheese, or spaghetti. Anything else was honestly either ordered or microwaved. But this was Thanksgiving. The whit haired woman flitted around the kitchen late at night, cooking the turkey she had thawing for days because it was a big one. (It was honestly too big, but she wanted to be sure she fed her girlfriend and had enough for amazing leftover sandwiches or what have you.) This was the last time she knew she could go baste the turkey and go back to bed. The next time she had to get up, Annabelle had so many other foods to start cooking; cranberry sauce, pies, casseroles, rolls, ham.. The list seemed endless, and yet she wasn't going to complain.
She just hoped it tasted good.
Currently it was three in the morning and she was out of bed to baste the turkey and make sure it wasn't burnt or anything. Her slippered feet dragged a bit as she made her way to the kitchen, grabbing the pot holders and opened the oven. It was cooking nicely. The basting happened and she grinned at her own success.
However, she didn't feel like going back to bed just yet, so, instead, Annabelle sat down at the kitchen table and propped her head in her hand as she let out a wide yawn.
I might not have a lot of family right now... but I have her. My beautiful Delilah...
An idea sprung into her head just then and she went to where she stashed the paper and pens and then moved back to the table, poised to write.
My dear Delilah,
What I'm most thankful for this year is you. I lost everything else in my life, family, friends... memories, but you're my constant. My rock. Without you, I'd be completely lost to the darkness that creeps up on me from time to time.
When we first met, I thought you were so cute. So.. precious. I see now I was right. You grow more dear to me every day, and you've blossomed into a beautiful woman. I know I'm not always the easiest person to put up with, and I have constant mood shifts, but you're still here. You've always forgiven me and I think we're still... going strong.
You've given me a home. You've been there through the toughest times in my life, and I can never thank you enough.
So, thank you. Thank you for being you, and loving me.
Your forever devoted,
Annabelle
She stared at her own writing and smiled a bit as tears blurred her vision. Hopefully this wouldn't be their last Thanksgiving together. Kissing it lightly, Annabelle folded up the note and stuck it on the coffee pot because that was the first place Delilah would look in the morning. Usually, anyway. The smell of cooked food might make her curious and go for that.
With that being said and done, Annabelle turned off the lights and headed back to bed. She had to be up again in another four hours.
