Quail stretched out as he wandered away from the latest string of patrolling. Nothing really happened, but he felt good to get out and active. He did rescue a kitten from a tree. There was no owner around, so right now the cat was in his arms.

It wasn't Mauvian, there was no star on his forehead, but it he was cute enough. A pure black cat save for a little white patch on it's nose that looked like a curl of smoke. “Hi, kitten,” he whispered to him, scratching under his chin. Quail's Eye loved cats. ...Friendly ones, like this, anyway. When he was in his quail form cats tended to terrorize him. Street cats, feral ones, they tried to attack and eat him. He was just a little, innocent quail!

“Why would anyone want to eat me, Ko?” Whoops, already named him.

As Quail drew near to his apartment, he powered down and once more he was wearing his oversized hoodie, a pair of jeans that looked too big, and a pair of crocks. Shut up, he liked crocks. They were comfortable and he could just slip them on.

Ko, the kitten, actually didn't seem to mind the transformation. He just purred continuously and gave a little mewl when those fingers didn't scratch any of the good spots.

“Oooh?” He was whispering to him in Japanese as he took the kitten up the stairs, a peaceful look on his face. “I have to go buy things tomorrow for you, Ko, but tonight I have tuna for you. Does that sound okay?”

Kazuo fished into his hoodie pockets and found his keys. Slowly unlocking the door, he pushed it open and walked into the continuously cool apartment with a happy noise. “Mmm.” He shut the door with his foot and then wandered to the kitchen. He put Ko on the counter and fished out a can of tuna fish and a small bowl. Once he opened the can, he kind of dumped it in the bowl, water and all, and broke it up with a spoon before sliding it to the kitten.

A happy mewl greeted his hears and he just giggled and watched with wide brown eyes as the kitten ate like it hadn't been fed a day in his life. Next he grabbed the other a small bowl of water and just pet down the kitten's back.

“Oh, stop growling. I gave it to you. Why would I take it?”

“He's really not going to be happy, is he, Ko?” He asked, sighing a little. He went to change into his pajamas, a pair of pants, a shirt of Kraven's and crawled into bed. It was late. Still, Kazuo reached over and grabbed the remote, turned on the TV, and after about ten minutes, Ko actually jumped up on the bed with him and laid down at his hip.

And this is how he realized Kraven was going to have a constant competition for his affection.

Funny how that works out.
