THERE YOU GO BUTT MONKEY <3

Jauhar was a strange land. It was an opposite to the harsh, cold of Zena and while not exactly a paradise definitely was warmer and far more colorful. Each place had their own beauty and dangers that could be appreciated. The giant trees that stretched towards the skies were reminiscent of giant mountains that could easily block the sun in Zena. Rather than a constant snow there was a constant rain that drizzled down and in bursts could easily flood a stream. Such a rain had just recently happened and the mage found himself wandering through the forest bottoms with his long jacket tossed off in favor of a lighter shirt. The material was damp from the rains and clung to his body, but he didn't mind. It felt rather nice to sweat. It was far better to sweat than to be freezing in your own blood after all.

"Why would you ever want to leave, father?" Kian almost couldn't fathom it. Yet, in his heart he knew the answer. It was too tedious to stay in one place for so long. The countries that he had visited the strange sights and the adventures there...all of it had been exciting in some degree. It was far better to live and roam than to stay and rot in place. The analogy brought a grim expression to his features. Perhaps that wasn't the best way to explain things...Just scratch that. Kian glanced up towards the skies almost as if someone could read his thoughts. "Eh."

Turning around he began to walk again. The evening was approaching and while some would be stirring others would be readying themselves for sleep. It was interesting to see how the shifters shifted. His own eye seemed to tingle as the moon rose and set. Others had noted how his silver iris seemed to twist and darken to the changing moon. If the rest of his skin shifted then perhaps he could have even convinced others that he was a typical shifter. If only, right? Not that he minded. To be a hybrid was a fascinating feature that he treasured now. It made him unique and he preferred things that way. What he didn't prefer was how Nerio seemed to constantly glance at him since coming to Jauhar.

What was it that the old mage wanted again? Someone was coming... Those had been his words. "What am I some sort of guard?" Kian pursed his lips in a pout before reaching up to grab a vine ladder. His long limbs easily scaled up the tree before he perched along one of its thick, twisting branches. He would keep a good eye out over the camp this way. It was easier to view things from a distance after all. Should any danger come then he would find it simple enough to strike first and ask questions later...

Jauhar's nights were truly a wonderful thing. A gentle breeze swept the trees, causing them to rustle softly, the nocturnal creatures softly singing to the night, creating a lovely lullaby throughout the forest. Eresin usually had no problems sleeping in Jauhar, save for the occasional heat and humidity that prevented him from getting comfortable, however, this night he was too anxious. Tossing and turning every night he couldn't help but keep thinking over and over I'm getting close, I can just feel it... One week of searching for his uncle ever since getting to Jauhar yielded no results for him. Each day, he found it harder to focus because he kept losing sleep over his own thoughts. The desire to find his uncle though made him keep going. He knew he couldn't give up, and when the evenings came, he really didn't want to stop looking. Was it the fact that at night there were much less people to look through? But that doesn't make sense considering he might be asleep, so there is no guarantee I would find him at night either... It was all so frustrating for Eresin. He just wanted to find his uncle Nerio already so he could help Talisia find her brother. Eresin continued to walk through the slowly diminishing crowds as the time for sleep approached once more.

Speaking of Talisia, Eresin figured she was finished bathing, which he felt she needed privacy for back at the camp. I have waited a long while... He started making his way back to camp, and he couldn't help but blush at the thought of the time he almost saw her naked, which resulted in a lovely lump, courtey of the piece of wood she threw at him. Nope. Not doing that again... It was an accident after all... He grumbled out loud as he tried to shake the thoughts from his head. As he lost himself in his silly thoughts once more, he found himself on an unfamiliar path in the woods. Not again... He thought as he looked around. Maybe I'll give her some more time alone... Wouldn't hurt to see where this leads.

Eresin continued to walk, keeping aware of his surroundings. Wouldn't want to end up dying here, would we? Not when we're so close. He thought as he stepped carefully through the trees.

A traveler? Kian's gaze gleamed in the darkness as he started to lean forward from his perch. Stretching out almost like a predator the hybrid watched as his 'prey' made his way through the darkening trees. Nerio had asked for him to keep an eye out for any visitors and the figure of another ice earthling was an obvious standout in Jauhar. One of these things don't belong here...

Hadn't he made the boy wait long enough?

It was time to find out if this guy he had spotted earlier truly was Eresin. Kian still couldn't believe the connection that the boy from his own childhood had with his mentor. Of course they had shared magic secrets and he had even tempted Kian to try unlocking any magic spark then...but his mother had seen to stopping that. A shadow crossed his gaze before he shook his head. Enough of the past, the present was now and he was determined to find his answers. If this was Eresin then it was his duty to get the other mage to his uncle so that their training could begin. He had enough of simple lessons and could only hope the other boy was prepared to fight. I suppose there's only one way to find out.

Slipping down the vines like a shadow, Kian attacked out from the darkness. His arm reached around the other male's shoulders while a dagger's blade shined in the dark, "Is there a reason for an iceling to be wandering out so far alone in Jauhar?" He asked as his breath tickled the other's ears.

Eresin was taken aback by the sudden mystery assailant. The very fact that even though he was as alert as he could be and still might been assassinated in a few seconds just bothered him. Actually, I should have seen this coming. I'm alone, and in the dark. Not even Peco is with me. He's back at camp sleeping probably... The knife point in his back meant that there was definitely no squirming his way out of this situation. His only other option was to tell the stranger why he accidentally wandered into his territory and hope to the heavens that he wouldn't kill him.

Eresin stumbled on his words, "Oh, uhm... I-" He stopped for a second. That voice... He didn't recognize it right away, but at the same time he couldn't pinpoint it. He'd have to figure it out when he wasn't in a life or death situation, though. "I... Just was trying to find my way back to camp. I didn't mean to intrude on your territory. If you'd please let me go and point me back to Jauhar, I'll leave immediately."

Was that okay? Probably a little pushy given his own situation, but it was already out there and would have to do. Still, something bothered him about his mystery assailant. Something, he had a feeling even, or maybe a resonance with this person. He could sense something familiar, not just the person but also... Magic...! There's more to it than that though. But what...? Once again, he'd have to figure out some other time. He hasn't even seen this person's face yet, and all these feelings could turn out to be false.

"Please, I just want to get back to camp. My companion... She is waiting for me..."

"Territory?" Kian raised an eyebrow, "Do you really think someone needs 'territory' to attack another?" Was this kid really Nerio's nephew? He seemed too delicate for the training that the sorcerer had planned for them. Then again the Eresin he remembered had always been a bit of a softie. He had that luxury in life after all. "I could just easily kill you with all the time you waste talking."

His blade pulled away a bit, but at the comment of a companion Kian moved closer. "Don't." The hybrid hissed in the darkness, "Ever reveal that you are traveling with others so easily. Only if you feel that they can fight back, but even then it's not hard to set up a trap. Do you want to risk her safety as well?" At the sharp words he pulled the blade back and slipped it into the sheath at his side, "It's almost as if you're welcoming me to go and find this camp. Surely it's nearby since you so easily wandered into this area while searching for it."

"I could take you back to camp, but that doesn't necessarily mean while alive."

Eresin squinted and scrunched is eyebrows in anger. Oh no you don't. No one is going to hurt her, not even you. Even if I die- At the feeling of the knife easing up, Eresin quickly bashed the back of his head against his assailant, and while his opponent reeled back from the blow, he dashed forward and gained some distance. He then whipped around and raised his staff.

"No one, I repeat, No one! Will harm her! Not even-" upon seeing his opponents face, he realized exactly who he was. "You..." Eresin said in a low voice. There was no mistaking him. The different colored eyes, the dark skin, and pointy ears of an ice earthling. "Ciaran...?"

Oh, so there was a bit of spunk. At the sudden change of action, Kian had to rub his forehead. What was with these people and headbutting him? Did they have no other weapons? Seriously, they want to give themselves and me brain damage. That would explain a lot about a certain wind girl...shaking his head, Kian took a step back.

Anyone else would have received a shock in reply, but since it was Eresin the hybrid was more relaxed. He didn't want to maul or traumatize the other mage just yet, "Calm yourself, lover boy. Did you even ask if I wanted to harm her? Though I have to wonder why out of all people to show up with you decided on my twin...I didn't agree to that at all." He glared towards the other ice earthling before his features slightly softened at the recognition, "Who do you think I am? Anyone else and you might have not gotten off so easy." He flashed a wry grin before studying the other male, "Seems you've grown up a bit, squirt."

"Also, please don't use that name." For a split second his expression was grim and completely serious, "I'm known as Kian as that life is over now. Looks like you're leaving behind your merchant days as well since you're here. Finally decide to chase down your uncle?"

A slew of emotions raced through Eresin's mind. Anger, confusion, joy all seemed to run through his mind, making him stumble over something to say. "I- You- Er..." He lowered his staff and took a deep breath. I found him? There's so much I want to say... But, did he know I was here? And how did he know I was travelling with Talisia...?

"Okay then Kian... How did you know i was here? Why didn't you say anything earlier? And what's with holding me at knife point? Kinda rude after not seeing someone for so long, wouldn't you say?" Eresin wasn't done. He was going to give him a lecture on manners. "Did you know your twin was looking for you? How worried she's been about you?"

Eresin paused, as he realized how angry he had just gotten at that very moment. His frustrations from the past week all seemed to come out at the same time. "And how do you know my uncle, anyway?" He sighed. He should really slow down and let the guy answer some of his questions. He shifted his stance as a way to say, Well?

"I'm sorry, would you prefer a hug or even a kiss?" Kian's eyebrow quirked up. Always the more noble spirit...of course Eresin would be lecturing him about how to handle a reunion. "Things are different out here away from home. We don't have these nice, polite gestures of greetings. I had to make sure you were prepared to fight since there are many who won't give you simple courtesy." His gazed studied the other boy and an almost dangerous glint shimmered there, "Not that I should have to explain myself to you."

"I was hoping that she could live her life without me." Kian normally had better control of his temper, but the thought of Eresin lecturing him about his twin without realizing the trials that Kian and Talisia had both been through riled him. "She was living a better life without me around and the dead me felt more useful to her than the living me." He doubted she would want anything to do with how stained his hands were now. Yet, Eresin had dragged her out here! The idea of such twisted fates made Kian's hands clench at his sides, "You know nothing of our struggles." The aura around him shifted and for a split second it looked almost like he was going to attack.

Yet, in the next Kian had let out a heavy sigh and the tension was gone. "Look. I don't know how much Talisia has told you, but the last time we saw each other I really thought I was dead. I never planned on being saved by your uncle who then decided to drag me through this world." He ran a hand through his hair, "Life's decisions were not easy for me, but if Talisia was living freely then I was not going to drag her down." He didn't even know what to do about her now. There was still a part of him that wanted to run away. Nerio could have his nephew to train and let Kian roam freely again. He wanted to run, Kian was by far not prepared to face his past and his twin.

Kian's sarcasm was very typical of him. Eresin remembered those kinds of jokes between them as kids quite often. At least that hasn't changed about him... Eresin couldn't help but think about how much this unfortunate soul had gone through. The man was on the verge of death even, and luckily Nerio just happened to be there. The thought put a frown on his face, and a knot grew in his stomach. Kian was right; Eresin was lucky when he was with his parents. Life could have been so much more cruel to him, but instead he grew up learning these "polite gestures", while Kian was getting the short end of life's stick. But is it really so bad? It seems to have made him a stronger person... Who was to say? Eresin would have to save the thought for another day.

"Well... You're right. I don't know anything about your struggles, but what I do know is that your sister wants to see you. That's what she came all the way out here for." Eresin paused and sighed. He couldn't help but feel a little guilty for not being there for his closest childhood friend. He felt some bitterness emanating from Kian, but was there really anything he could have done? I don't even know... He looked into the shifter hybrids multi-colored eyes. He saw pain and confusion. "Look, you should give her a chance. I can take her to you in the morning, or if you'd like, I can take you to our camp. I'll leave it up to you."

Eresin hoped he was doing the right thing. He felt it was the only way to right the wrong done to the two siblings.

"She came here for me?" Kian frowned thoughtfully, "How? Never mind." Who had told her about him? He worked so hard to cover his tracks...but then again it was hard for a hybrid with his looks to be a common sighting. Of course even the faintest trail could be traced to him, especially considering how his twin would have him in mind. Even if he had tried to dye his hair the male couldn't hide his eyes. Perhaps I should have ripped out the silver one a long time ago... Or at least bandaged it away from the world.

"I'll decide when I meet her." Kian shook his head and his gaze was hard, "For now you have an uncle waiting for you. I was supposed to lead you to him, but having Tally with you is a problem for me. Whether she wants to see me or not doesn't matter. I'm just not....there yet." Sighing the male ran a hand through his hair, "For all it's worth, I know where you're camped. Finding you by the village wasn't hard actually." He studied the other ice earthling, "I'm impressed you made it this far. It's been years so I guess even you have changed some. So you've got the gift now?"

"A staff, eh?" Kian clicked his tongue playfully, "Seems like such a hassle to lug around. I guess since you have that now it really means you're on your way to learning magic. Or are you already an expert?"
PostPosted: Sun Apr 17, 2016 1:39 pm

Eresin chuckled. "An expert? Me? I wish." Eresin felt the anger die inside him, and the sadness fade away. The only thing left in him to feel was joy. Truly, Eresin was grateful to see his childhood friend back again. Whether or not he was here to stay was a question for later, but for the time being, he decided he would cherish the moment until the time passed. Eresin smiled at Kian. "It's good to have you back, friend..."

He gestured to the hybrid to lead him to his uncle. "I'll see him immediately then. Let's go."

"At least you admit to it." Kian studied him, "Though I always thought you were interested in runes with me." The mage shrugged, "Oh well just means we can study how both work together." His own runes, hidden beneath the sash around his waist, seemingly glowed at the challenge. They would have their turn to fight and for once Kian wouldn't be fighting just for a kill.

"I suppose that just means I'll have to help you get onto your feet until you catch up. Not much fun training with an amateur." He could easily tell that Eresin had only recently ventured out into the world. There was still that innocence about him and the way he handled his staff was too loose. "Good to have me back?" Kian glanced over towards Eresin with a wry expression, "We'll see how you feel about that after our first training session. As it is let's go."

Friend... The word echoed in his mind. Could he still claim such ties? Would he want to if he knew what Kian had done? The innocent child behind him had such a gentle life....something as harsh as Kian's would only startle him. Frowning at the thought Kian started to move forward through the forests of Jauhar. He just hoped his twin would settle in and not get worried about her companion. It wasn't night just yet so they had time. Still, his gaze was focused and he intently observed the scenery around them. Should anyone approach he would be ready to either hide or fight...

As Eresin followed Kian through the trees, Eresin wondered how much his uncle had gotten older. The last time he saw his uncle, he was a few years younger. That was the time when he realized Eresin's true potential and confronted his parents about it. They fought and the end result was Eresin being shut away from the world. Well, if it didn't happen that way, I might not have met Talisia again, would I? That reminded him. Talisia... The name rang through his mind like the ringing of a large bell. He hoped she wasn't worried about him too much. He wondered what she was doing anyways, or even if she cared much about what Eresin was doing. For Eresin, it was hard to tell what she was thinking or feeling most of the time, since she was the hardy type, the kind that rarely shows emotions. I suppose it's easier that way out here in the open world... It's much less of a weakness. And yet for some reason, Eresin had a hard time letting that part of him go. It was what made him who he was, and that was something his mom always told him. Don't lose yourself, Eresin, or Just remember to be you, Eresin. He knew with how harsh life was out here, even though he was only getting his feet wet. He'd heard stories of people being robbed, taken into slavery, and the most common, being killed. If Eresin would let go of his emotions and learn to be like her, he could be stronger, and maybe be able to protect her better.

He sighed out loud. Who am I kidding...? She really doesn't need me to protect her. It's more likely the other way around... But what could Eresin do? And why was this so important to him anyway? Had he actually gotten attached to Talisia? He certainly wouldn't mind spending the rest of his days travelling with her, regardless of the dangers it would bring. They could protect each other until the end of days. I'd better let go of that thought... She probably wouldn't feel the same way towards me... Would she? What if there was a way Eresin would win his way into her heart? How would he even do that? After all, Eresin knew nothing about love.

Are we almost there yet? My own thoughts are driving me crazy... Eresin shook his head. "Hey, um... How much further?"

Perhaps Kian was leading them in a large circle that orbited the caravan's camp. Yet, how else was the hybrid to get a good feel for Eresin? They had been close as brothers at one point, but that had been years ago when they were just younglings on the verge of apprentice-hood. Back then even he had been naive enough to have hopes in the world and to express a fondness for another. The thought was enough to bring his current approach to life to shame. Get close to none and only play this game known as feelings without any real regard for them...wasn't that the best way? Kian twisted a stray stand of hair with his fingers as he thought. If he had known Nerio was going to throw him into this trap then the hybrid would have left months ago. How was he supposed to know that his mentor's nephew was going to be Eresin? Or that Eresin would somehow manage to pick up his twin along the way? Then again he had come to Jauhar knowing that there was a chance that Talisia also had come to their father's homeland....

Even he hadn't known his own secret hopes and if he had then he had shoved them away like a stubborn fool.

"Just a little bit more. Don't worry we'll get there before the sun rises." Kian glanced over his shoulder towards the other mage, "So...how did you find my twin? Any certain reason you're traveling together?" He paused and studied the other for a moment, "You carry a staff and she's no fool. How is it that a mage out of all people earned her trust?" She hated mages...all magic was evil to her. The thought darkened his gaze before he turned away and climbed over a large tree root to cross back on a more correct path towards camp.
