Since coming to Oba, Nadiya had been on edge. Knowing the stories from her family had kept her own her toes and every shadow seemed to loom. Even more so she realized exactly how tense some Obans still were about the concept of free Matori. "Deal with it." The girl frowned as she walked through the marketplace. Some had been really nice, while others made her pause with their shifty expressions.
As a girl traveling alone it wasn't exactly the best feeling in the world.
Perhaps if she had decided to be a warrior instead of a musician the girl would feel more confident. Not that she was scared! No, no! She was just tired of wandering and really had no idea where she could even stop for the night. The last thing she wanted was to be out in the desert by herself...traveling with a caravan had been nice. In fact, it made her realize exactly how fortunate she had been in her family. As a wandering rogue the roads definitely were a different story...
"Surely there's someplace..." Perhaps she could even play for a room at a tavern? She just had to decide on which one...Pursing her lips thoughtfully, Nadiya began to wander the streets once more.

Ah, there was nothing like the smells of freshly grilled meat to put Ujana into a happy mood. She snagged a leg of whatever poor creature Rystas had decided to cook up, and bit heartily into it's flesh. While she didn't mind that dried out stuff he'd served for breakfast, fresh was always best. The juices mingled in her mouth just the right way to make her absolutely giddy.
Of course, she should have been working, but pilfering a bit here and there was fine too, right?
Ujana slipped out the back into the alleyway. It was where most of the fresh stock was kept, and sometimes she felt a little bad for them. All cozy and snug, without a care in the world until some surly Oban showed up with a meat cleaver. The girl slipped around the livestock, and meandered out of their pin onto the street, tossing the leftover bone of her meal back into the alleyway.
The city was hopping today. Earthlings were everywhere, so it didn't surprise her that the inn across the street was slapping up a sign that read "full". The owner stopped to give her a smile before moving back inside. Now that they were busy, Medina's would be as well. What self respecting traveler wouldn't want a good drink after settling into their room?
The innkeep made her way back outside and came up to greet Ujana. She was an older woman with a hunched back, but stern set maroon eyes. "Fillin' up quick these days. Sandstorms a comin' and everyone's buckling in."
"That's just fine for us, isn't it?" Ujana chuckled. She might have slapped Ferra on the back, but she didn't want to break the poor things spine.

Full, full, and full. Nadiya sighed as she bounced along the streets. Surely someone had to have room somewhere! Her hand went to clutch at the necklace hanging around her neck. Often she would wrap her hand around the bell for support as it somehow gave her a friend's comfort. No need to give up so easily...
Her scarf twisting up behind her in the air as a swift wind rattled through the city, Nadiya twisted away towards another street. Her mouth tasted of sand and the girl had to wrinkle her nose. That was nothing like her ocean sands. It was much drier and grittier. Spitting, the Matori wiped her mouth and continued on. It was then that she spotted another tavern. Perhaps here?
Two women were outside and Nadiya wasted no time, "Hello!" Bouncing forward the petite female waved an arm, "Are you still open?" Her amber gaze glimmered with hope, "A room that is...I was wondering if there's a place still open. I don't know why, but everything has been filling up today." She glanced between the older woman and the leaf girl her expression eager with anticipation.

Ujana placed a hand on her thigh as a strong wind began to whip through the streets of Kelv. The storm that had been seen so far off was coming closer now, and she knew it would be here before nightfall. It whipped through her loose pants, and moved her braid behind her like a lashing whip. She hadn't seen a good storm since first moving here though she wasn't entirely ready for this one. They always ended up with someone losing something precious to them which was never good. Materials, homes, loved ones...Nope, never good.
Ferra was the first to noticed the little matorian, but Ujana was quick to catch on. She turned around...then looked down to see her. While the height difference may not have been as drastic were she of alkidike blood, Ujana still had to focus on the bouncing thing.
"Sorry dearie, but I'm all full up." Ferra frowned as another wind came through, this time bringing a liberal peppering of sand with it. The older woman coughed, and Ujana reached out to pat her back.
"Go on, Ferra, I'll take care of this." Ujana made shooing motions with her hands, not bothering to relent until the old woman had said her goodbyes and was safely tucked away in her inn. At that point she turned to Nadiya, and motioned around them, "Sandstorms kicking up, and it's looking like a big one. Everyone's buckling down..." All except for her. Ujana clucked her tongue and looked back at Medina's. They weren't an inn; just a tavern, with a bar, drinks and food. No rooms for travelers to stay and certainly no where for them to hunker down for a storm. Still...They did live above the place, so...
"Look, we ain't got any rooms because we're not like Ferra; that's not our type of business, but if ya don't mind sharing with me you can stay with us."

If one had seen Nadiya's face at the moment of rejection they might have felt their own hearts rip. Her expression that a moment ago had been so bright and hopeful just simply dimmed as realization of the denial hit, "Oh." Her gaze was almost akin to a lost pup before she shook her head and forced a smile, "Thank you anyway. I'll just have to keep looking~"
Yet, as she almost gave up on the night Nadiya's heart jumped once more. "You'll help me?" The mention of a sandstorm made her even more eager. Oh no wonder! She had heard stories about how dangerous those storms could be and this would be her first one! It would be a great adventure...if she wasn't' so tired perhaps. "I wonder how close someone could get before the sandstorm sweeps them away....I hear it looks like two gods swirling up from the sands to devour the lands before them...."
Regaining her focus, Nadiya glanced towards the other girl. "Stay with you?" Nadiya's gaze flickered around them thoughtfully before she peeked back towards Ujana, "If you're alright with that then sure!" She smiled brightly as she bounced on the bottoms of her feet, nearly reaching Ujana's height as she moved. "I don't mind at all! I had so many siblings that sharing a room is nothing for me."
Flushing, she tucked a stray bang behind her ear. "But I'll still pay you if you want. I don't want to just be seen as a freeloader or anything...or even play for you." She held up her flute, "I'm decent at that."

"It's either that or let you dried up in the sand." For Ujana that wasn't much of a contest; she had too soft a heart to just let someone wait this out when they didn't have to. Talk about getting close to that sandstorm, though, had her moving towards the Matorian's back and nudging her into the tavern. "Yeah yeah, come on crazy, let's get you inside before something sweeps you away."
Once she had the water gal inside she closed the doors behind her and locked them up tight. Nothing was getting in tonight; storm or burglar alike! "If you wanna pay your tab then you can just work it off. You can help clean up around here, and get things ready for tomorrow." Even though the tavern had closed relatively early it had still seen it's fair share of traffic, and Ujana wasn't looking forward to cleaning up after their dirty patrons.
A pair of Obans, both in their middle ages, stepped out from the back area, seemingly to inspect who Ujana was talking to. While both were a little surprised to see company only the woman started to smile. The man beside her kept his scowl firmly in place.
"Hello there, dear. Are you a friend of Ujana's?"
"Not yet, Medina." Ujana smirked. "She's staying with me til the storms over. No more rooms. Told her she could work it off."
"Oh you don't have to do that! I'm sure you'd much rather like something cool to drink and something to fill your belly, am I right? Ujana's just trying to get you to do some of her chores; you can stay here for free."
Caught red handed, the wind girl shrugged her shoulders with a brilliant grin before moving to a corner to grab a broom.
