Gwen had been agitated the last couple of days ever since the meeting on the moon. She hadn't really thought much about it though, assuming it was one of the normal mood swings she tended to go through periodically, so in an effort to expend some of that pent up energy she had opted to go on patrol. As much as she didn't necessarily take being a Knight seriously all the time being able to explore the city via the rooftops and just enjoy the night air was a perk to the whole business.

Hopping from building to building, Hy-Brasil tried to clue herself in on signatures. Nothing was particularly close to her so she opted to head into a shadier part of the city. Here some street lights were blown out leaving dark splotches on the streets that were only lit by the occasional passing vehicle. Many of the buildings looked run down but nothing look outright destroyed. If anything a bit of TLC would have helped the neighborhood out. Normally, if she had not been powered up, Hy-Brasil would have strayed clear of such a neighborhood, but as a squire she was far from worried about civilians bothering her.

Eventually something caught her attention and Hy stopped on top of an old warehouse. She was about eight stories up when she caught sight of what almost looked like a shadow passing through the darkness. If it hadn't been for the signature of the youma she would have missed it completely. Perfect. Taking care of a youma would ease her pent up agitation.

A few choice leaps and she landed on the ground just in front of the youma. It was an interesting thing standing around 4 feet tall and looked almost whispy in appearance, like a shadow that had detached itself from some strange creature. "The hell are you?" She murmured softly to herself in question. It didn't much matter though.

Not wanting to take the chance it might try to dart away if she wasted time, Hy-Brasil rushed up to the youma and kicked out at it's chest. She wanted to take care of it quick enough that it wouldn't manage to sneak away on her, and in the dim lighting of the back street they were on, that was a possibility. Hy also though didn't want it to end so quickly that she didn't even get to stretch her muscles in the fight.

Sanidine had been a bit away—not far; he could still see his youma cleanly, but he was on higher ground and had been trying to use his vantage point to figure out if there was anyone of use to him out tonight.

He hadn't even felt the page, but he saw movement out of the corner of his eye.

Right where he'd last seen his youma skittering about.

Sanidine's attention suddenly jerked from the horizon down to the scene below; his lip curled into a sneer and he was leaping off the warehouse he'd been planted on before he'd even really thought about what he was doing.

The youma wasn't much of a fight; oblivious to Hy-Brasil's presence until she attacked, the youma had been surprised enough that it hadn't even tried to defend itself. Instead, the creature let out a startled chirp—and suddenly, Sanidine was coming from her right, arm pulled back and hand curled into a fist. He didn't play games; he aimed straight for her face and didn't bother to pull any punches. He felt his fist slam into something but he wasn't even paying attention to what he hit; he immediately moved so that he was between her and the youma that was now frantically trying to scramble to its feet.

"You shouldn’t touch things that don't belong to you," he warned, voice thick with venom.

She was weaker than him, so he spared a glance back to his youma; his anger only spiked when the creature tried to get up but wound up stumbling over itself, collapsing in a heap as it favored one of its front limbs. He didn't see how the youma went down, but he suspected it had to be hard on his right side, given how much the youma was struggling to get up without putting pressure on that side of its body.

His eyes snapped back to the page in front of him.

"You like picking on things weaker than you, is that what this is?" he snarled, but made no effort to help the youma behind him.

Hy-Brasil had been expecting some sore of resistance from the youma but instead she felt her foot make full contact and the creature was stumbling onto the ground. Unfortunately for Hy, her surprise at the lack of a fight meant she barely registered the aura darting up on her right side. She had enough time to throw up an arm in an attempt to block the attack but it didn't do much besides save her face from a direct blow.

She felt herself stumble backwards before tripping over her own fit and falling to the ground, all the while her arm prickled and throbbed in pain from the punch. "Dammit." She cursed as she looked up at the Captain who was now standing between her and her original target.

"I don't see a collar with a name tag on the thing." She ground out through clenched teeth as she climbed to her feet.

As the creature scrambled to its feet Hy-Brasil Carefully she opened and closed her right hand to test how badly he had hurt her. Pain shot up her forearm but for the most part things seemed fine. That is going to leave the most glorious bruise.

"I believe that's how the chain tends to work, isn't it. The stronger pick on the weak." She spat out. "Besides, I can't let it run around here and possibly hurt civilians. It's better off dust."

Brushing stray hair from her face Hy glared at the Captain. Any other time she would have done her damn hardest to try and ease the situation or even flat out run away. After all, facing a Captain by herself with his own youma was not the brightest of ideas considering she had nothing to fight with except a damn incense stick and her own two fists. Tonight though she was not in any state of mind to really care. She wanted this fight.

That was anything but normal for the page.

"Now, move out of my way." She said softly before charging at the Captain, Fist pulled back with an intent to strike him in the stomach and wind him. Fortunately for the Captain it would be pretty damn obvious that the Page had almost no fight training and that was of so unfortunate for Hy-Brasil.

Sanidine's eyes narrowed as she charged; he was faster than her, and stronger, and he knew it. When she pulled her fist back to punch him in the stomach, he grabbed it in his hand, and planted his other hand on her shoulder to stop her from reaching him. "Yes," he said after a moment. "That is how the chain works, isn't it? And you're either senseless or stupid if you think you have any right to order me around. Because, sorry honey, don't know if you noticed, but," he smirked, his face only inches from hers.

"You're the bottom of the chain, here. And I'm more than happy to chew you up and spit you out if you think that half-assed excuse is reason enough to attack my youma."

The youma had gone rigid now that the battle had started; though it looked like it had settled itself, it still seemed dazed.

Sanidine didn't think that the risk of his youma attacking a human was even that great. Never mind that there was no one around for him to attack—Sanidine didn't actually think the youma knew how to attack.

The person he'd used to be—Evan—certainly hadn't known how to defend himself, so Sanidine wasn't really surprised that he was as useless as a youma as he was a human.

He'd have to change that. He wasn't going to sit around and let him get dusted.

Sanidine's eyes were locked with Hy-Brasil's, and his grip on her fist and shoulder tightened; he was trying to hurt her.

If he were screwing around, he would have had plenty of taunts, and insults, but instead all he could think about was the day he wasn't there to protect Evan, again. The day someone dusted him for good. One Senshi had already sent him to the Rift, and Sanidine was sure he'd lost him forever.

But Pages like this were a problem.

She was a problem.

And she was either going ot learn a lesson now, or she wasn't going to live long enough to make the same mistake twice.

He jerked his knee up suddenly, aiming right for her gut.

Sanidine might not have had formal training beyond what the Negaverse had put him through, but he wasn't unaccustomed to the classless back alleyway brawling and street fights of his high school days.

He liked fighting.

He liked winning.

But most of all, he liked the sweet satisfaction of revenge, and if Evan wasn't going to fight for it for himself, Sanidine would.

Hy-Brasil's eyes widened a bit when Sanidine grabbed her fist and shoulder. Try as she might she couldn't push or pull her way away from him.

As his face grew nearer she practically growled at him. "Not like you would have let me skitter off away even if I wanted to since I hurt your precious youma. I don't see how the damn thing is useful to you if you have to hop in and save it after one hit."

With the increased pressure on her hand and shoulder, Hy-Brasil winced slightly as fingers dug their way into muscles and pressure points. All she wanted to do was wipe that damn smug grin off his face and deal with that sad excuse for a youma. The most that the creature was going to do was pick on a human since it certainly didn't look like it was going to be much use in an actual fight. Dammit! Why do I care so much anyway?

And that was when the Captain knee connected with her stomach causing her to double over almost instantly and fall to her knees. All the air had been forced from her and she attempted to suck in sweet, sweet air through wheezing breaths. "b*****d." She coughed out. An arm was wrapped around her midsection as she braced herself with the other on the ground.

Staying there wasn't an option. That she knew. Still it felt like an eternity before she was able to rouse herself enough to stagger to her feet. "I don't care how damn strong you are."

With one last cough she stepped forward this time, sinking her weight to one leg to swing the other up and towards the mans midsection. Her goal was to catch him by surprise and follow through her attack with another. Keeping him off balance was going to be her best bet in trying to win this fight.

And winning was on her mind, as idiotic as that would be to anyone who might have watched the scene from afar. Taking on a Captain was idiotic enough, but with a youma around anyone else probably would have known better. Even if said youma seemed like a complete waste of air.

Sanidine did not attack her while she was on the ground. Instead, he just looked down at her, sized her up.

Sized her down.

He gave her space as she stood, but it wasn't out of courtesy or respect or 'fighting by the rules'. It was because he wanted her to see how little she threatened him. How little she mattered to him.

But he wasn't watching close enough, because one second he was watching her stumble to get up, and the next there was a sharp pain from his side and he was sent stumbling a few feet away. His body ahd half turned from the impact and he caught his youma lurching, as if to defend him.

"You stay there," he yelled, voice venomous.

The youma froze, totally rigid, and backed up.

Sanidine's cockiness had plummeted; now he just exuded a cool anger. One hand went to rest at his side, as if he needed to touch the injury to gauge how bad it was.

But he was still standing. He was still breathing.

She'd probably bruised him, but he'd have plenty of time to check that out after she was a bleeding mess.

"Big mistake," he said lowly. "You really ought to pick your opponents better."

If she wanted to play dirty, so could he. He held out his hand and the air seemed to glisten for just a second before a wavy sword appeared in his hand.

He lowered his other hand from his side and lurched towards her now; Sanidine was inexperienced with his sword. He had no formal training, but he knew that it couldn't have been much different than swinging around a crowbar. A crowbar with very sharp edges.

Sanidine lacked skill and precision but anger and pure force made him dangerous with the weapon all the same. He didn't aim to cut her, really; instead, he swung the flat edge of his sword towards her back. He'd have rather lost the blade and just had a hilt to pummel her with, but he wasn't going to complain—not as long as he was winning.

Right now, it felt like he was winning, even if his side still felt pinched.

The youma lurching forward pulled Hy's attention from following her well placed kick with another attack. She had thought the beast was actually going to attack her but the Captain quickly put a halt to that with a cold, sharp command. That youma is like a well trained dog.

With her advantage gone, Hy instead opted to prepare herself for the fight to escalate as the odd weapon shimmered out of nowhere and into the officers hand. Perfect. He has a legit weapon I've got practically nothing. This was where she was beginning to realize that she may have picked a fight she was better off having run away from, but it was too late for that now. She had, quite obviously, pissed Sanidine off royally.

As he lurched towards her, Hy had very little time to do much of anything. At such a close range the Captain had the edge on her with speed. She barely had time to register that he had swung the weapon towards her before she just let herself drop to the ground. She didn't get away scott free as the weapon managed to still make contact with her back but the full blow was diminished. "Pulling a weapon when I don't have one isn't exactly fair." She growled out.

Realizing she wasn't int he best of positions, Hy decided to try something a bit unconventional and lunged forward towards the mans knees in an attempt to tackle him and bring him to the ground. There she would try and wrestle his weapon from him if she could.

Distracted with the weapon, Sanidine left himself very open to her attack; she made contact with his knees and he was thrown off balance enough that he wound on the ground. He didn't seem fazed in the slightest; he grunted as he hit the ground and said through clenched teeth, "Not my fault you're still at the bottom of the chain. You don't like it, file a complaint with the natural order. Or better yet, just shut up."

His weapon was in an odd enough position that it would have been almost impossible to hit her with any real force behind it; he tried to kick her away from him even as he aimed to smack her with the butt of his sword. He couldn’t get a good swing, but he figured any damage was better than no damage, and even in his angry rage he knew better than to swing something that sharp around when he could have easily wound up just hitting his own legs.

There wasn't much grace to Sanidine's movements, but they were deliberate and forceful. He aimed, barely, for things closest to him: her collarbone, her nose, her stomach, her shoulder—anything he could reach, he wanted to break.

He couldn’t dust her like she could dust his youma, but he'd take satisfaction in doing the next best thing.

The youma itself stood by, uninvolved. It was tense, ready to spring, but its eyes were wide and fearful. It wanted to jump to Sanidine's aid but couldn't move against his order.

Her plan had worked. She got him to the ground! "At least I can fight back unlike that youma of yours!" Why? Why did she need to keep running her mouth?

And she did her damn best to try and scramble over him to make a mad grab for his sword. Flailing limbs broke her plan of action though. A foot managed to knock her hand out from under her and she slipped down, hitting her chin off one of his knees and biting her tongue. That paled in comparison though to the blunt force of the sword connecting with the joint of her shoulder.

A cry escaped her and she fully collapsed to the ground as she rolled away from the Captain in an attempt to keep herself from being hit again.

The pain was incredible. It throbbed down her arm and across her chest in consistent throbs after the initial blossom of pain from the blunt force subsided some. She had no idea what had been done to it, but any attempt at moving the shoulder caused more pain to radiate up and out of the joint. "********." She cursed as she reached around to tentatively touch the area as she awkwardly tried to get to her feet, glaring at the Captain all the while.

Without the use of her arm she was in trouble. She knew it. Mind it wasn't her dominant one but still it was pretty damn inconvenient to be lacking an arm in a fight where she was already very much the underdog.

What were the chances he'd just....walk away at this point?

Probably not very good.

"Yeah, you can fight back" Sanidine snapped, repeating her words, "Unlike that youma of mine. That youma, of mine, that you were willing to attack."

He watched her struggle, and if his adrenaline wasn't so high he would have relished in the satisfaction of her pain. Instead, it kept him moving; he pushed himself up.

"But a lot of good that fighting did you, huh." When he stood, he scraped the tip of his sword along the ground, deliberately. The noise it made was unpleasant—almost painful to the ears, but he didn't flinch. When he stood, it wasn't to his full height; she'd done enough damage that stretching his body out just to look imposing was a waste of energy and concentration. Twice now, she'd managed to hurt him because he hadn't given her proper attention.

Now, she had his full attention.

"Does it make you feel strong?" he asked suddenly; he kept his sword hanging limply by him, but he swung his boot, hard, at her side. "Preying on them? On the ones you know can't fight back?"

He kicked at her again, aim unchecked. "Is that what I should do to you? Is that the fair, natural order? Is that what you want?"

A third time he kicked, half for show and half because he could see his youma trembling, just a few yards away from where the girl lay, and he wanted her to be afraid as it--as Evan--was.

"Fighting back is better than standing around like a coward and letting someone wail on you." She muttered through clenched teeth as she watched the officer climb to his feet. The dragging of his sword caused her to wince at the sound of it scraping across the macadam. Sounds like that had always bothered her and a chill ran down her spine involuntarily.

Hy's first encounter with a youma back when she first awakened certainly did not help her impression of the creatures. In fact, one could say she disliked them more than anything else about the war. They had no point besides to harass unsuspecting victims and drain them, possibly injure them as well. Why keep something like that around?

"I wasn't looking to feel strong. I was..." She was cut short as the boot caught her in the side, sending her sprawling back to the ground, landing on her injured shoulder with a cry.

She gasped and tried to breath through the pain but another kick to her side sent her rolling. By this point she was hurting enough everywhere that her shoulder wasn't the only thing throbbing. She tried to stagger to her knees and glared up at the Captain despite the beating she was taking.

"You're doing a damn good job of it at this po..." Another kick, this one landing on her chest and sending her onto her back. She swore she heard a crack of two but couldn't quite tell.

As much as Sanidine waited to see her tremble in fear, Hy-Brasil wasn't ready to give him such pleasure. Her pride and temper were not willing to let her break to that point despite her body feeling like it had gone through the wringer. Instead she lay there, taking short gasps of air, before tentatively rising up onto her one good arm though it was a painful struggle. "Congratulations, you've knocked down a weaker opponent than yourself. You tell me, feel better about it?" She grumbled out.

For a long moment, Sanidine didn't answer. His fingers were wrapping around his sword, tapping thoughtfully as he looked down at her. Finally, menacingly, he answered, "I think I'm about to."

He lifted the sword, trailing it from the ground to her. He didn't apply much pressure; it was enough to be felt, but not enough to draw blood. He traced a path from the ground, up her arm, over her shoulder. He stopped at the crook of her neck and moved the sword, almost as if he was caressing her flesh with it.

It was cold, like his eyes. Like everything about him.

He was calculating something; his face was impassive, but the cogs were ticking in his mind.

The sword started moving again; he'd made up his mind, it seemed. As he trailed it from her neck, down her chest. "Do you know what a youma is?" he asked, suddenly; the sword was resting now, tip just over her stomach.

"…I'll give you a clue."

Sanidine had stabbed a man, only once. Only, it was years ago, and it had been with a pocket knife. The man had lived, of course; Sanidine didn't know how to kill a man.

He didn't like the sensation then, and he didn't like it now, but he did it—for Evan, he told himself—and jammed just the tip of his sword into the soft flesh. He waited for a burst of red to stain the fabric before he said, "It bleeds like a human."

Hy continued to glare at the Captain until she felt the cold press of steel on her arm. Instantly her eyes shifted to the oddly shaped sword as it practically danced across her skin as if teasing at the amount of damage that it could do with just the right amount of pressure.

Leaning her head back slightly as the blade reached the crook of her neck, Hy's breathing picked up a bit as she swallowed hard. Her eyes lifted from the blade and back to Sandines and it was then that the cold look in his eyes really hit home that she could, quite likely, die right there if he so wished. She was in no position to fight back. At most she could possibly kick out and trip him up, but with a blade pointed at her body that wasn't exactly the smartest of ideas.

The blade began to move again after it tickled at her throat for a few moments. A small exhale of relief escaped her as the blade trailed away from her throat and down her chest.

She didn't bother to answer his question. Instead she was far more interested in what the hell he was intending to do as he stopped once again over her stomach. For a moment she thought the leather of her bodice would do well in protecting her from the blades bite, but she was terribly wrong.

It seemed to take no effort and the blade sinked through the bodice and into her stomach.

Still propped up on her elbow, Hy was afraid to move for fear or making the pain or wound worse as she practically bit down on her lip after a small cry of surprise escaped her.

She barely registered he had said anything to her as she felt a warmth seep up through her clothes. Still, she opened her eyes to look up at him. There was fear there now, but not the trembling sort that the man's youma had been experiencing. She was too stubborn for that. Hell, at this point, her stubborn nature was the only thing keeping her going so she wasn't about the let that small bit go.

"A lot of living things bleed." She choked out, not seeing the point to his observation. "And humans can't be turned to dust."

Sanidine clucked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.

"Yes, they can," he said after a moment. "All you have to do, you know—here, stay still." He lifted a foot, planting the sole of his boot against her chest and pressing her flat against the ground. "I don't want you squirming, so I'll make this easy on you."

'Easy' was not the right word; he focused his attention back on his sword. Only, he didn't just tease her flesh. He didn't seem to care at all about preserving her innards; he gripped the hilt in both hands and slammed down as hard as he could. He pushed through flesh, and blood, and whatever else the human body held, until he felt the tip of the sword hit the solid ground beneath her. But he didn't stop there, even; with a little grunt, he shoved harder, until even that crumbled under the pressure.

What was the point of having superhuman strength if you didn't get to use it?

He wasn't exactly trying to hurt her, and especially wasn't trying to kill her. But he didn't want her to move.

He didn't give her much time to respond before he moved to straddle her awkwardly. His back was pressed against the flat edge of his sword and he didn't bother to shield her from his weight. His knees were pressed almost into her armpits.

"I could make you a youma, you know," he said, so detached. He wasn't angry anymore. He just wasn't in his right mind. "I did it once, already. That one, over there. Mine."

The youma's ears twitched; it was pacing anxiously around the two, hackles raised but low to the ground.

One of Sanidine's hands went to rest over her chest and he debated for a moment before he pushed his hand in. "He wasn't a page, though. He was just a normal person. You know. The ones you want to protect. But I guess he doesn't count anymore, does he? But that's okay. Maybe you could protect him if you were a youma."

He fished around for her starseed, fingers poking and prodding rudely. He didn't push Chaos into her, but he wasn't exactly nice about showing that he could.

She didn't need to know that he didn't think he had the energy to corrupt her into a youma.

His fingers curled around her starseed—tight, but not enough to do any real damage.

"Or maybe I'd just have to dust you. Wouldn't want you," he squeezed tighter, "hurting anyone."

She had no idea what Sanidine had planned as he forcefully pushed her to the ground. The wait of his boot on her chest though paired with his words was far from comforting and she wanted to do anything but what he wanted her but she didn't have much choice in the matter. Especially when the sharp pain of the blade pierced through her.

Like a bug put on display with pins, Hy-Brasil was pinned to the ground courtesy of the corkscrew blade that now punctured through her and into the ground below. There was no attempt in trying to stop the scream that escaped her.

Eventually, she rode through the abrupt pain of being stabbed and could only feel an odd numbness in her abdomen. Whether it was her brain trying to push out the pain or the overflow of andrenaline she wasn't sure, but Hy was able to open her eyes to find Sanidine hoovering over her. The weight of his body on her chest pressed painfully on what could be assumed to be bruised, if not broken ribs. Not to mention, his weight made it very difficult to breath but that was the least of her worries.

No, now she had to fear that this man, this Negaverse agent was going to do something even worse to her as his hand disappeared into her chest to toy with her starseed. It was such an eerie feeling, until he began to apply pressure. Then she felt the pain in her chest.

Her breath hitched in her throat as she shook her head slightly back and forth. "Please...no..."

She was terribly afraid now. There was no way she could send out a letter for help at this point.

Her body trembled ever so slightly and whether that was from the pain and damage done to it or fear was a mystery even to Hy-Brasil.
