ashes to the wind

Cosette while normally shy and apprehensive of most crowded spaces felt only at home by the water where she was in her element. Surprising was that given that she was a Chimera, however this bond to the sea and any other body of water was built as an outlet for her energy that she could not put into flight training due to her malformed tiny wings. Sporting her favourite green frilled swim suit the Chimera boldly walked out from the showers towards the poolside and into the water proud that she no longer needed arm floaties or a life jacket to swim.

Margret didn't really like large bodies of water. It reminded her of when she was at the beach. The water was much too cold and she hadn't enjoyed that after her feet got wet the sand just stuck to them. She felt as if she had been cleaning the sand out of her fur for weeks after she had visited.

She stood just close enough to the water to look interested in getting it, yet didn't budge to go any closer. She had put on a pink swimsuit with a pair of green trunks, but we still apprehensive. She looked up and another kid who was playing more. "Do you really like the water?" Her ears twitched as she asked.

ashes to the wind

Cosette having looked up from the tiny splashes she was making while trying to mimic waves turn head towards the small voice that she thought was directed towards her. Quirking her brow the Chimera questioningly asked "Was that question for me? If so then the answer would be yes." Her words were mature if not a little forced on her part, as if she had spent a lot of time practicing in front of a mirror, but not on others in a real conversation. This alone gave away her eloquence as false and though she was trying hard to seem more adult than she actually was.

Waist deep in water Cosette took a few water slowed steps towards the other to close the distance so that they were not speaking across a large distance. "Do you not like the water? If so why not?"

The pink and black Bakeneko's ears swiveled back at the way the other talked. Should she try to sound proper or older than she was too? It kind of struck her as odd, but she dismissed this, choosing to rather focusing on the subject of water.

"Yes, I was talking to you. Isn't it cold in there?" She had yet to dip her toes in the water of the kiddie pool. "You have wings." She gestured toward them on the grey child. "Wouldn't you rather fly instead?"

Her golden eyes stared intently at the water as she decided on how to answer the question. "I went to the beach and the water was cold and I got sand everywhere. I haven't really played around in water..."

ashes to the wind

Cosette who was now just a few feet away noticed the other having not yet quite touched the water. This made her curious and in conjunction with the other's question came to determine that perhaps they were not so keen on entering the water as herself. Lowering her perked brow Cosette nodded along in a wordless response to their question choosing to stay silent as to not interrupt the neko as they began to broach the subject of her own unease. To this she became intently focused on the other's facial expression as they took their time to think, but became even more attentive especially as the other finally spoke back to her in response.

"I can see how sand might be a problem for someone with so much fur. . . I hate getting it in my hair too, but as far as the cold goes it's something you just get used to if you give it some time. Some people have to take it slowly- a few steps at a time, wait a bit, then walking in some more. While I've seen others who do it in one big jump and then it's over with. You can't go back once you dunked yourself all the way in. And yes for the first few seconds, especially at the lake or sea, but like I said before your body just adjusts so it doesn't feel as cool. . ." Having spoken so much Cosette forcibly had to stop herself from rambling on and as she began to slow her words came to find her eyes had been closed this entire time while she spoke with her index finger stuck up as if to speak in a matter of fact. Pulling her hand down with her other the Chimera grasped her fingers and kept them tucked under the water neatly in place at her front before continuing to speak.

"But you shouldn't have a problem with sand or cold water here. This is an indoor pool, the smaller one in fact, which is warmer than the other one made for the adults." Cosette looked past the other girls shoulder longingly towards the larger of the two pools having to physically shake the thought out of her head before she could speak again. "I don't see why we have to separate the pools by age. I know how to swim better than some of the bigger kids." Coming to a huff Cosette once again beginning to trail off into a tangent held her tongue a few moments before spouting words once more.

"To answer your earlier question though. Yah I would like to fly, but I can't." Turning to her side Cosette gave a show of her small wings fluttering them as best she could despite the lack of control she had over them. "They're too small the doctor says, apparently size matters when it comes to flight. I'll just keep growing and my wings wont keep up, but that doesn't matter!- because- I got the water and that's just as good as some lousy clouds if not better." She having waved off her upset chose rather to sit back into the water to help her point across and to prove to herself once again that she was more at home in the pool than chucking herself off some cliff somewhere. "In the water you can feel weightless and float at the top of the surface if you learn how to control your breath which in my opinion is cooler than flying where you have to flap your wings to keep yourself airborne. Sure you can glide, but only for so long. I bet it's exhausting and if you think the water can get cold imagine having air rushing in your face all the time at such altitudes! You're likely to catch a cold and form icicles from your dribbling nose. Yeah- no. The water is where it's at. . . But to be honest it doesn't really matter how it - Ah l

Margret put her hand over her mouth and giggled. The grey kid talked a lot, but it was very interesting. "You must know a lot of things." She nodded as the other went on and considered what she was saying carefully. Margret couldn't imagine jumping into the ocean, let alone this small pool. "This pool seems better than the ocean." Her golden eyes stared at the water again. "It only moves when someone else moves around."

Her gaze was lead to the bigger pools behind them where people much taller than both of them couldn't touch the bottom. She shuddered at the thought, turning back with worried eyes and eyes flattened back. "I think the reason is..." She knew about the various bad things that can happen around any body of water. "Safety... Yeah, so no one gets hurt." She nodded her head confidently, though her face still showed a bit of worry. She felt a bit left out and wanted to join in, even if she knew the dangers. There were adults all around so they were safe... Hopefully...

Margret snapped from her worried thinking, looking back at the other. As she tuned back into the child's ramblings. So their wings were small and wouldn't grow? Was that common? The conversation moved on to another point before she could say anything more, so the Bakeneko decided to ask sometime later. "You know, clouds are made of water, so it's like you're doing the same thing!" She laughed a bit, grabbing floaties and a little inflatable ring, never too safe, right? "I'm Margret by the way...." She looked very unsure of the desicion she was trying to make, still lingering by the edge of the pool. "You said people jump in, right?"
