Hey all,

So I'm thinking of putting together a mini event to fill in the gap between now and September. The idea has been tossed around a bit before this, but now that we're pretty much done planning for the main ball (hopefully you're all working on your quests and prizes alongside the art), it's going to get a bit quiet if we have nothing to do.

So my thinking was that we could have a smaller event, invite the guild to participate, and pretty much anyone else that is interested, and have a little event set in the homeworld of the main plot's protagonist/antagonist/whatever we want to call them.

One of the ideas was to have a festival or sorts celebrating a planetary alignment that makes crystals glow for a night, and just have a big alien-elf-style bonfire party, which I personally am kinda fond of.

In any case I just wanted to see how many of you would be interested/have the time to get involved with this, because I think it'd be a pretty fun way to get into the mood for the ball itself.

We can spin it so that their world has similar humanoids that Gaia does I suppose? It doesn't have to be the size of Earth/Gaia, it could be, say, 10 times bigger, so lots of different creatures would make sense. (idk tbh i'm havin' a pretty bad day and my creativity isn't exactly stellar atm)

Honestly atm I'm doing everything myself but I don't really have the time to so every bit of help counts. I've got a test thread going but I'm having surgery for my wisdom teeth (which are causing aforementioned bad day) on Tuesday so I'm going to be out of commission (literally) for like a week or so.

Doing it as a summer event sounds great though, I'd love to do that.



Even if we only have a handful of people joining in, it's still something worth trying. smile

Sorry about not quoting, I thought you would get the notice about someone posting in your thread but I just realized the ball mule made the thread. And I'm sorry to hear about your wisdom teeth, I hope that the pain goes away quickly and you feel much better after it is over.

I ran an event for a guild I was in once, and the lack of participation or help I received made me very discouraged. I'm willing to help as much as needed though for this (aside from actually being in charge), like I mentioned with graphics and whatnot. Also story wise, since we all talked about this back in skype anyways.

Idea 1: This involves what you said about the planet having people similar to Gaians. If guests insist on acting like they are not from there, maybe people from this world invited friends or family from elsewhere.

Idea 2: Possibly what I suggested about involving the sorcerer from the main plot. This event is so rare and important that people are invited from other worlds, and the sorcerer is in charge of opening portals (maybe sort of like in Harry Potter when they are went to the big quiddich tournament and used portkeys?)

I've been rereading through the skype where this was discussed. I thought we had talked about it more, but I will put it in spoilers if anyone wants to see it:

Maybe instead of stars, it is a comet that only comes by every 100 years or so, and something about it resonates with the crystals, and maybe sort of recharges them and causes them to glow? So aside from the event being rare, it could also be very important to the survival of those people. Something with stars or a planetary alignment are also good options, but I would want to do a bit of research first if we go that route, for ideas.

As for the rest, I did sort of like the idea of the Japanese festival, maybe we take that idea but make it fit the culture of this planet? Strange food, games, prizes, and trinkets themed around the comet or crystals. For games run in the thread, it could be something like a stand that would be at a festival. Maybe there will be a Crystal Monarch of the festival (gender neutral, unless we want to separate the contests).

Also the mules we use in the ball as heralds to deliver news to rooms could be in the mini event as NPCs. I can think of more ideas, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

Agh, sorry for the late reply everyone, things have been getting really busy for me with work.

Okay so, first and foremost, I'm going to need someone to take this out of my hands. I'm going in for surgery tomorrow morning so I simply won't have the time to handle this and work and recovering at the same time. I've got a huge design contract coming up and it's probably going to absolutely wipe the floor with me.

I really want this to go ahead and I would really love for paint some stuff for it once I've recovered a little, but I just don't have what it takes to manage this and the AURB at the same time on top of everything else atm.

I was planning to use all of the 'Reserved' post as a kind of gallery to display scenes of the event, to get people in the mood for it. It'd be nice to have but it's nbd if we can't.

In any case let me know if any of you lovely people want to take this off my hands and run with it. If you're wanting to be main host next year this is a great way to test the waters to see if it's something you want to do.

[edit] tbh I can probably manage this event still upon reflection, I just can't manage any of the content creation in terms of writing, (maybe) art or advertising. Basically I can supervise and make calls if needed but otherwise I'll need someone else to be responsible for creating and formatting the posts for the first page.

(I've quoted people that have shown interest in running a mini event in the past, as well as Brokuto bc they're the secondary, but this is open to everyone that is interested.)

I think the 'portkey' idea would work best. I'm happy to go with that. I love the comet idea, that works much better. And yeah, I was very much thinking this culture would be heavily influenced by Japanese culture. Like high fantasy elves if they were Japanese rather than European. Basically all of your suggestions are amazing tbh, I agree with all of it 100%.
