Asiya stood outside the Ashdown Police Department and frowned.
While she had never done anything legally wrong or questionable, the artist was fully aware that racial profiling was a thing in this day and age. Given the media and how many people reacted toward those of her background, it came as no surprise that she was hesitant of the cops. They were helpful, of course, always ready to aid a person in need. But like anyone, some of them could be quick to judge, too. The last thing she needed was to be suspected of being a public threat or even the dreaded T-word. But alas, her trip to the cops was a necessary stop, and there was no getting around it.
Apparently, there had been some graffiti of the symbol in the real Ashdown. It had been taken down, of course, but Asiya had heard about it. Now she just needed to figure out where it was, and why they took it down. In the meantime, she could also probably talk to the cop in charge about what she found. Maybe they could bounce ideas off of each other.
That was when a thought came back to her. One of the people on the trip she made to Other Ashdown was a detective. Detective Mercer, was it? Yes -- that was his name. If anyone in the police station were to know anything about the graffiti, it would be him.
Asiya was on edge as she walked into the building, and she couldn't help but fidget with her hijab some once she was inside. "I'd like to speak with Detective Mercer, please. There's something I'd like to discuss with him." There. That's it. She had done the hard part. Now all she had to do was wait.

"Mercer?" The man at the front gave Asiya a warm smile. "I think he's actually out on leave. Something about his back? I don't know." Except that right as he said that, Detective Lieutenant Mercer was heading out of the building or trying to - as fast as he could. "Wait, there he is! Detective Lieutenant!" the officer called out. "This young woman wants to talk to you!" Jeremiah paused, turned on a foot and glanced towards the man behind the desk and then Asiya. She looked familiar and it took him a moment, more moments than he liked, to place her face. From other ashdown. The one who had found the foot. "I thought you were on leave," the officer said as Jeremiah came over. The detective was dressed warmer than the weather dictated. A jacket over his familiar button-up vest and button up shirt. The calla lily was there, visible, as he was buttoning up his jacket at the waist (gun and holster disappearing and no longer visible). "Word travels fast," he said with a hard look. "I actually just cleared it with the Chief." That hushed the officer working the desk as he turned to Asiya. "If you'd be so kind as to walk with me to my car, we can talk about whatever it is you came to see me for." Jeremiah paused. "Unless it's official police business." Which he doubted.

"No problem!"
Asiya wasted no time, and hurriedly followed along after Jeremiah. His new clothing looked quite nice on him, though she didn't relay this compliment out loud. The calla lily was a nice touch. She had always loved flowers, though her mother never really allowed her to keep any back when she lived at home. Most scents irritated her. Now that she was on her own, however, perhaps that could change.
"I'm here about graffiti that had shown up in town..." She then paused and went quiet after that, not wanting to say too much inside the police station itself. "Been researching what the smaller symbols within the symbol it could mean..." azuredreams Short post is short. Apologies. ; n;

"Am I to assume you mean the graffiti that is also all over the other side?" Jeremiah asked, an eyebrow raised in question. The only reason he was aware of the graffiti that had been over the town after the fog cleared was because it was still a topic of conversation at work and he had found himself asking about. Only for one of the officers to ask why he was asking again. Again.

Asiya nodded, her hijab sliding down the back of her head some to where she had to pull it forward. Dang it -- she hadn't pinned it well enough. She'd have to fidget with it more later. In her dream, she had seen the strange symbol everywhere, though it was most prominent for her at the building she spent the most time at. "I'm trying to figure out what it means, just in general, and where it comes from..." She then thought back to her research, and pulled out the notebook she had written her notes in.
"I've gotten the symbology for the different aspects in the symbol itself. For the sword, the crown, and the stars. It's just trying to make sense of it that's the difficult part." Then again, trying to make sense of anything when Other Ashdown was concerned was probably a feat in and of itself. It probably very rarely made sense, and thinking about it made Asiya remember the answers that Sunny gave her.
Other Ashdown was a cage.
Maybe the symbol was a clue?

"I can tell you that it was painted on Darlene's window on this side." This side as in not other ashdown. "Some kind of expensive paint," that was what had been said but he did not ask what kind, "as well as drawn on the sidewalk in a few places around town with chalk. It's all been cleaned up." A measuring gaze was leveled upon Asiya. "I can't, at the moment, honestly help you with any insight into the symbology of it." Jeremiah had no memory of the time since he had been back from other ashdown. His memory was a blank that only started again once he had left the place yesterday. He did not have any notes but that did not mean he had not looked into it. Jeremiah could have but he knew nothing right now. "It is not that I don't want to help but ..." His lips pressed together, the only tell in his mostly neutral expression. "Tell me what you've found out," he said instead, "I'll see if I can offer you something." Better than nothing and he was interested himself, just that with days missing from his memory he was very uncomfortable being out and about.

"Darlene's? So that's where they buffed it, huh..." Asiya then caught herself and gave Jeremiah a sheepish look. Of course, he probably knew that buffing meant to get rid of the graffiti, now that she thought about it more clearly. He was a detective, after all. Illegal street art was probably the least of his concerns, and it was something any beat cop could probably handle getting rid of.
The artist brightened when he asked her to explain what she had found. With the notebook in hand, she held it out to Jeremiah. On the page was three distinct categories: one for stars, one for the crow, and one for the sword. Each had further possibilities of what the respective symbol could mean, too. "Well, swords generally denote power. Same with crowns -- only royalty really wears them. As for the stars, it could be related to something magical..." She then paused and added, more as an afterthought than anything else, "I think it might be related to some sort of deity? Maybe...I dunno."

"A few other places around town as well," Jeremiah corrected. "Not just Darlene's, that was just the only place that it was painted." He glanced down at Asiya, listening to her speak and then taking her notebook as it was offered. He glanced through her notes, blue-green eyes looking at her briefly. "You do know that swords can also symbolize courage, yes?" Looking back over her notes. "Crowns also don't just symbolize royalty. It's not just royalty that wears them." Another cursory glance back over the notes. "Same with stars, not just magic but distance. Stars are one of the furthest away things we can see with our eyes." These were obvious things, however, that he knew without delving into things.

Of course, there were multiple meanings to all of the symbols. She was aware of that. She could have delved into more belief systems, too, to find even more meanings on the symbols from other cultures, but that would have been too much. "All three symbols have lots of meanings by themselves, so lord only knows what the symbol as a whole means with all of them together." She then glanced at her notebook, and took it back from the detective, if he allowed her to do so. When she thought of the symbol at places other than Darlene's, she made a mental note.
All of the symbols were long gone by now, so that was okay. It was just good to know they had been there. "I'm going to go try and talk to Sunny about it all." Curious, the artist tilted her head. "I'm sure you're familiar with her. Anyway..." Asiya fidgeted again, and glanced at Jeremiah's car. She was keeping him, and he probably had important work to do.
"Thanks for talking with me. It means a lot." She hugged her notebook to her chest after saying this and smiled at him. A handshake probably would have been appropriate, but she would have to pass on that. He would understand.

Jeremiah pressed his lips closed, watching the young woman closely. She meant well but the detective knew exactly what she was getting into and she probably did not. "It is my familiarity with Sunny that has me saying this," he his gaze was stern, serious, "and that is that she is not the one you want to talk to. I'm sure you've heard all about her deals, you may have even tried one since you've been back for all I know, but those deals do not always come with the information you want." This was coming from someone who trusted Sunny but also someone who ... The thought was pushed from his mind because it lead to a headache (and an inexplicable heartache he could not explain). "If you want to know about about the symbol, then you should be talking with Heliodora." He looked every inch the hard-nosed detective as he spoke now. "She was the one who is wearing earrings that bear the symbol you're looking into." It was something he had noticed while they were there in her demesne, the detail was fresh in his mind. One of the few things he could grasp onto with all the other memory issues. "She's also likely to be of more assistance to you." Safer to deal with as well.

Heliodora.
How could she forget about Heliodora?
She found her severed foot, after all.
"You're right," the artist agreed, thinking back to when they were in Heliodora's realm with Pax and all of the others. It was hard to forget about all the arguments that went down as well as all the confusion. Then there was cold fire blazing out at Jeremiah, too. All of the things that happened in Heliodora's demense...it seemed as if it was a dream. Quite the contrary, however: the ordeal was very much real. "Perhaps I'll go see them both. We'll see."
For the moment, she hadn't planned on making anymore deals with Sunny. She had just planned to tell her about what she had found regarding the symbol and all of that. Nothing came to mind that she wanted to make a deal over, anyway. Bartering wasn't Asiya's strong suit.

Jeremiah wanted to rub a hand across his face but he did not, instead he merely nodded. "I would recommend one or the other, not both." The detective inclined his head in goodbye in any case, letting the young woman walk her own path. Not that he necessarily agreed with it but he could only impress upon people so much. "Feel free to contact me in the future if you need assistance." A card was pulled from his pocket and held for Asiya to take as he was pulling his car door open to get in to drive. Which always looked like the wrong side to those that were use to American vehicles. "Especially if it's in regards to the other side. I can offer a little guidance if you need it." He did have a firmer grasp on it than others even with the lost memories. "Be careful and take care of yourself." The ignition was started and he gave her a wave to let her move on her way before he left himself.

Asiya took the card and bowed her head in thanks.
She then slipped it into the pocket of her sweater, making a mental note to put it in a safe space back in her apartment once she got back. It'd probably go on her refrigerator, held in place by a magnet. "Thank you very much," she told him before he left. The detective definitely seemed very helpful, and especially knowledgeable in regard to Other Ashdown, in comparison to those like her.
She had barely any idea about the other side, and was still learning as she went.
"Assalamu-aleikum," she then went on to say in partin, wishing peace upon him in her usual greeting. As he drove off, she, too, turned and went her own way. Her direction was headed for the beach, in order to reach out to a certain someone.azuredreams Annd finished! Thanks again, so much, for RPing with me. <3
