Andromeidis was on his patrol, he was alone like he so often was. He was now headed to the wolf who he had found hurt in the woods a few days ago. He was slowly bonding to the wolf. He had a soft spot for the forest creatures. He almost smiled as he made his rounds around their territory. It hadn't been too long since they had settled in this area, they had found the remnants of the old heard and Andro was slowly coming to terms with them. He still held animosity towards the Protector of the herd, but it wasn't terribly important at the moment. Right now he was on his way to check on the wolf and see how he was healing. Hopefully the little guy would be ok soon.

He detoured through the forest and towards the shielded safe area where he had left the wounded wolf. He wasn't sure what the others would say if they knew that he was sneaking away to protect and heal this wounded fox. Frankly, he didn't care what they thought. He still performed his duties wonderfully and in full capacity. Why should they care that he had a soft spot for the creatures of the forest? He kept his ears alert, always listening for any sound that another might be nearby.

Slowly he made his way into the shielded area he had kept the wolf and there he was. He smiled to himself and he slowly and gently walked towards the small form. "It's ok... I'm not going to hurt you..." He lowered his muzzle and to his surprise the wolf licked his muzzle. He laughed as he was licked. "Ok ok.... I take it you're feeling better!" he said with a smile. He put his horn down to the wolf, who had gotten used to this over the past few days. He guessed he must have earned the wolf's trust. He used his healing magic and sure enough, his friend was almost fully healed. He smiled at him. "I think after another day or two you will be good as new!" He laughed as the wolf licked him on the muzzle again. "Ok ok... just be good.... I brought you some things I found along the way!" He pulled the Rabbit from where he had placed it in the chain on his tail and gave it to the wolf. The wolf eagerly ate the rabbit and then laid back down and drifted off to sleep happily. Andro smiled as he watched.

Once the wolf was settled he continued on his patrol, this time he would check the outer boundary. It was a bit of a walk from the main herd, but it was worth it to keep everyone safe. After all if he wasn't as strong as he could be then what was he really? He kept alert still listening for any sounds of anyone approaching. He didn't care who or what it was so long as his family stayed safe. He would fight to the death in order to protect them.

Okay, so maybe this hadn't been the best of ideas. But Ran was always encouraging her to be brave and not show fear. And her big sister never understood why things frightened her so much. Even Heliotrope couldn't explain it either, but one thing was for sure. This had not been a good idea! The mare had her wings tucked tightly around her, careful of each step she took. Her gaze stayed on her hooves, every couple of steps flickering up to make sure she didn't run into anything. It still didn't save her from stumbling. Or make anything seem less... scary. She swore the trees were laughing at her!

Well... they could go right ahead! She was just going to keep walking through the wood. Looking for that stallion that had terrified her before. He'd not meant to! And when she'd told her sister, Veri had said to go back and speak with him. Tell him that had not been nice. Or she would do it for her...

Which was not what Helio wanted. The stallion hadn't meant to! And she'd run away in fright and now felt bad so it was her goal to find him again.

Why hadn't she asked Ran to come too?

Something caught her attention, the mare freezing where she stood. Her head flew up, eyes wide and heart starting to beat faster. But nothing was there. "H-Helloo.... ?" Maybe her best friend had secretly followed her out here and was just testing her. Yes. That had to be it! "Ran... ?" She squeaked, trying to act brave.

What if it wasn't her friend? Oh... oh no. No it had to be! Because... oh damnit all what had Ran and her brothers told her to do when in trouble? Wings. That was it! Helio flared her wings out to look more menacing. But all this accomplished was smacking one against a bush and getting it tangled while spooking herself all at the same time.

Why had she followed Ran's advice again?!

Andromeidis continued walking staying alert. This was when he happened upon the mare. First she seemed a bit spooked, then she seemed confused, then he had no idea what she was trying to do. 'Is she ok...?' he wondered. He watched as she unfurled her magnificent wings in order to.... look menacing.....? He guessed that was what it was. All he could do was try to keep himself from laughing at the poor mare who was now hopelessly tangled in a bush. It was then when he decided that she needed someone to step forward and help her. It wasn't usually in his nature to help without asking questions, but this time, he felt it was needed.

He walked out from the trees he had been behind and into the light. The light shown from his white pelt and he kept his tail low so that the chain on it would not frighten the poor mare more and have her hurt herself in the tangled web that was her wing and the bush. He attempted to keep a straight face in front of her.

"Might I offer my assistance....? You seem to be a bit.... Tangled?" His words were soft and he was trying to keep his voice soothing. It was the gentle side of him that only the wolf he was healing had seen, and his brothers of course, but they rarely counted. "I promise I mean no harm to you... My name is Andromeidis..." He watched her and wanted to help, but he would not touch her without her own permission. The mare intrigued him. He had never met one with wings such as hers, and they captivated him. He was intrigued by her and it had momentarily caused himself to forget about the need to be protective over the lands and his family and herd. It was an interesting turn of events for him. Maybe he had just not fully gotten out of the mindset after visiting the wolf? Yeah that was probably it. He waited to see what the mare's response would be.

It really wouldn't have taken too much more to completely terrify her. At least she hadn't started to cry or anything. Now that was something she could never have admitted to Ran! Her friend would be so appalled. Helio took comfort in that small triumph. Right up until something moved in front of her from around the trees. The mare squealed involuntarily, trying to tug her wing free. Her eyes were so wide and it was clear she was breathing way too hard and how had her heart not burst right out of her chest?!

That was it. She was never ever trying to go on a brave adventure by herself again. Never. Ever.

Helio was so frightened and embarrassed that she didn't realize the stallion before her wasn't the one from before. Nor was he trying to scare her. Or really do anything harmful. Except ask her simple questions.

Out of habit, the mare curled her untangled wing around her front and ducked her head behind it, peeking over the rim while her ear wings flattened against the sides of her head. Pretending he hadn't seen her was certainly out of the question at this point...

"I.... I-I... I'm stuck..." She squeaked out softly. He said he wouldn't harm her. And he had a pretty name. "I'd... I-I mean... if it's not... too much trouble.... I could use help." If he could hear the tiny voice she used now.

Think! What would Ran do in this situation?

... Not wind up in this situation to begin with.

"Y-You... I mean... I'm not... intruding in your... t-territory... am I?" Oh stars! It would so be her luck to wander into someone elses territory and not be aware of it. Her own mother mentioned other herds near their home. She'd just never met them in person before.

"My names.... Heliotrope." She added shyly from behind her one large wing.

Andromeidis tried his best not to laugh at the mare's reaction. He tried to let her calm down a bit before he moved closer. Mentally he reminded himself to keep his tail low and still, it was a force of will for him as he flicked the thing back and forth fiercely all the time, but he figured in this situation it was probably for the best. He lowered his head to her slightly when she said she could use a bit of help. It was low, but he was fairly certain that was what he had heard. He couldn't help but smile at the wing over her face, it was just like she was trying to hide herself.

Slowly and carefully moving each step deliberately and smoothly he closed the gap between them. He saw where her wing was entangled in the bush and moved his hoof over the bush. and pressed down, with a slight snap, the twig that had been pinning the wing snapped off and fell to the ground.

"There you go... You should be free now..."
He listened as she said he name was Heliotrope, that was a lovely name. "Your name is quite lovely, m'lady." He was using all of the side of him that was gentle, kind, and protective. She was similar to the ferret he had helped a few weeks back, scared and frightened and meek. He smiled at the memory of the cowering little thing as he took a step or two away from the mare. It was probably for the best that his normal personality was surprisingly absent, at least for her anyways.

At the question of whether or not she was trespassing it brought up a slight irritation, but it was clear that she was not a threat to his family. He shook his head and then let the smile return to it.

"You are, but for right now it's alright... I'm sure you didn't mean too.... From the looks of it, you didn't mean to encounter anyone this evening..." He said it in the same calm and soothing voice he had been using since he visited the wolf. "Where are you headed?" He would find out where she was headed and then he would find a way to get her out of their territory, after all he did need to do his job and remain loyal to his herd. He would await her answer and then go from there. He was good, just so long as he didn't slip back into his normal outsider personality.

If she could have accomplished it, Helio would have been, quite literally, cowering on the ground with both wings covering her. But she only had the one for the time being and it was doing the best it could to hide the timid mare. She felt herself shaking a little, putting more faith then she should in the stallions words. He wasn't going to hurt her. This still wasn't enough to keep her from completely ducking behind her free wing when he approached. And when the twig pinning her wing snapped, she jumped.

But her wing was free! And it immediately curled around her to try and hide her. If he couldn't see her... well, her face anyways, maybe he really wouldn't hurt her?

Ear wings perking up a little with her ears, Helio peeked over her wings. "T-Thank you...." She murmured, fairly certain that her cheeks were bright apple red.

However the color all but drained from her features when he did confirm she was trespassing. The mare froze up again, fearing he would force her to leave. Or attack. Wasn't that what creatures normally did? "I...I-I... I am so... so sorry." She stammered. "I didn't mean to! I... I was looking for... someone." Or thing. She wasn't quite sure what the stallion had been. Besides frightening. "I... ran into someone a few nights back. Perhaps I got the area... mixed up."

Swallowing around the huge lump in her throat, Helio managed to glance around meekly. "I... honestly don't know anymore." She said in a small voice. Which direction had she come from? The mare was so turned around from her fear she couldn't even remember which direction her parents' grove was.

"I live near the base of the mountain." She said with some hope. Maybe he'd know which direction they were? Of course, if she'd been thinking a little more clearly, the fact she could fly would have been an option too.

Andromeidis watched her as she curled the second wing around herself now that it was free. He was actually rather glad to be of help to her. He smiled when she thanked him for his help. It actually felt good to help others, it was after all the reason he prized strength over everything else. He refused to let himself be weak or ill equipped to handle the situation. What kind of a warrior would he be if he couldn't help a damsel in distress? Or even the wolf who was injured?

When she started to freak out he almost laughed. "It's ok, I already told you that you clearly had no idea. You are lost, so it's fine." He hoped this helped to calm her, he really didn't want to see her as upset as she was. He also really meant that it was fine because she didn't pose a threat to his family, not so much that she was lost. He wouldn't care if a skinwalker was lost or anything, they were definitely still a danger. This unfortunate mare who had a wonderful name was definitely not a danger.

When she said she was looking for someone, he wondered if she had met one of his brothers or if there was someone else in their territory. It made him wary. It also made him want to increase the patrols to ensure there would be no harm brought upon the herd. When she said she may have gotten the area mixed up, it did make him feel better. She was definitely turned around. It was when she talked about the Mountains that he realized where she went wrong, she was just headed west instead of east. If she headed to the eastern part of their territory then she would be headed towards the mountains. He had yet to do his patrol on that side.

"You are simply on the opposite side of where you want to be...."
He said in the same soft and gentle tone. "You are headed west when you want to be east... The mountains are east of us..." He pointed with his horn in the direction that meant east, just in case she was unaware in her turned around state. "If you would like... I can show you the way..." He had made the offer even before he had thought about it. He didn't know why he did this, or why she was so scared of what seemed like, everything. Something made him want to know more about her, and spend even more time with her. Usually he avoided others, this was a very out of character and strange sensation for him. All he could do was wait and see what she said. He hoped that she would calm down and realize that she didn't have to be scared with him. He would protect her.

Stars have mercy on her! Her mother had always told her to be wary of other territories around their happy little glen. Since they were not a herd themselves, per say, they had to be respectful of everyone around them. This was the first time she'd met any of their "neighbors" before. Ran's own herd wasn't too close. In fact, Helio was surprised that she'd even met Ran in the first place. But she was glad of it.

"I... I really am s-sorry." She said shyly, still quite frightened but her heart rate was slowing. "I knew... herds were out here... b-but..." Wandering around on her own never happened. But she'd tried so hard to be brave!

The real shock came in hearing she'd been traveling in the wrong direction. It was enough of a surprise - and embarrassment - to make her forget about being scared. "W-West?!" She squeaked. How... had she gotten herself so mixed up?! Oh this truly was embarrassing. Her earwings drooped as her ears fell. Ran would was going to have to teach her how to navigate. Again. And even worse, her older sister would be so disappointed in her. If only she was a strong and courageous as Vermillion was.

Helio peeked at the stallion, Andromeidis again. He... was willing to show her the way? "R-Really? You... I-I mean... if it's not too much trouble..." Having someone to walk with would certainly be much better than traveling by herself. That thought made her shiver, wings shaking before slowly folding to her sides and giving the white stallion the first chance to really see her. "I... thank you."

Andromeidis watched her with interest, his eyes never leaving her. She was scared of him, which was a normal response he supposed, his tail twitched as he thought and the chain there jingled slightly. He made another mental note to himself to keep it hidden, he refused to scare her more than he already had.

When he heard her utter the sorry again, he laughed. He wasn't laughing at her, just at the fact that she was apologizing. When she talked about knowing there were other herds he smiled. It had been a long time since he had smiled like this, even laughed. The only other times he could remember himself doing this was when he was helping out the wounded wolf in the forest. That's when it struck him, this mare in front of him was similar to that wounded wolf, except she wasn't wounded. He was glad for that, as he didn't want to spook her even more by having to treat her wounds. He didn't know terribly much, but he had been teaching himself things in order to help the creatures he found who were injured.

He thought he was progressing nicely. It was her next outburst that caught him off guard. He readjusted his front legs and his tail twitched again, jingling the chain and making him curse himself internally if it scared her. The shock and dismay that was evident on her face and body made him feel bad for telling her. When her Ears and ear wings drooped he couldn't help himself.

"It's ok, I will see you there safely.... if you will have me as a companion! I will protect you!" He blurted out without thinking. When she responded to him once more he chuckled a little and added "Of course it is no trouble! I was heading that way anyways on my patrol...." He wasn't really on patrol, but he didn't know what else to say. When she lowered her wings he saw her full self. He was surprised and his eyes widened slightly. He quickly recovered from the shock and almost blushed as he turned and walked past her. Making sure that if he did blush, that she didn't see it. 'I'm supposed to be a strong warrior.... why am I almost blushing just by looking at her fully?!' was the thought that ran through his mind. When she added her thanks he turned his head back to look at her.

"It's not a problem.... you are very welcome... It's this way...." He spoke softly to her and waited for her, he didn't think he was leading her back in the direction she had come from but instead a bit more Westward than the eastern direction she had originally started on. They would still skirt the center of the Kateri lands, but they would still make it. "I am sure your friend will be glad to see you..." He had no idea what else to say to her. What did he say? He didn't have much interactions with mares under his belt, and he really didn't have a lot of interactions with anyone. '.... I hope she won't be frightened of me anymore....' Was the next thought that crossed his mind. Time would be the deciding factor on that one as he waited for her to catch up to him. He would let her set the pace, and hopefully figure out something to talk about in the meantime.

She wasn't sure what the jingling sound she kept hearing faintly was, and tried not to think too hard on it. What else might be out here with them?! But this stallion.... Andromeidis, was strong. Like Ran. And kind, like her mother. This seemed to be enough to convince her mind he was not going to hurt her and the skittish behavior eased. But only by a little. Every new sound - or that jingling - made her jump a little.

She really was a hopeless cause, no matter how much her friend tried to teach her otherwise.

"T-That... is very kind, thank you." Helio murmured, attempting to give him a smile. As he got closer to walk past, her wings tightened around her and she took an involuntary step sideways before catching herself. But it only took a couple rapid heartbeats to pass before she turned to follow. This gave the timid mare a chance to really look at the stallion helping her. His coat was a beautiful snow white, like she'd seen on the mountain tops while flying. He had a graceful yet strong build to him that made her petite form look small, even with her oversized wings. And then she spotted his tail. Or to be more precise, the chains jingling along it. So that's where the sound had come from! Instead of feeling frightened, Helio felt relieved it wasn't some other creature.

"O-oh!" She squeaked at mention of her friend. "Y-Yes. She'll be happy to see me, I suppose." Her cheeks started to warm up. "Ran will be so disappointed I got lost." She murmured. Maybe she'd have find one of Ran's brothers first, to help break the embarrassing news.

Walking with Andromeidis seemed to help the mare relax more. There was less tension in her muscles and her wings weren't as tightly pressed to her sides. She wasn't even ducking her head as much, glancing around with a little more curiosity.
