Lately, the local market places have been filled with new traders offering their wares. It seem as if many across the land are trying their hand at selling clothing, weapons, and trinkets. With so many new faces, now is the best time to go to the market and barter for the best prices.

So go ahead and grab your goods or grab your gold and take a shot at bartering.

This prompt can be played from either side: your character can be the merchant, or can be looking to purchase an item. Groups can RP with both characters on the same side, or trying to barter with each other.

Zandala 1

While the Extremist Alkidike camp had grown, its marketplace was still quite small especially when compared to those on the mainland. Still, Zandala wanted to celebrate with Lumikani their time together. She wanted to get her partner a little something to thank her, perhaps some trinket for her blades, maybe a necklace. She didn’t know yet, but she knew she was taking Kanika with her for the trip. Teach the girl about the importance of exchanges in the marketplace and such.

“Alright are you ready?” Zandala glanced back at the petite form of the Elaria running around before she stepped out.

Kanika 1

It was going to be a good day she knew. Kanika had not only finished all of her morning chores, but gotten a bit of training in before her mother told her they’d be going out for a little to the marketplace. Zayanna seemed to have gone out with Lumikani so it wasn’t like she had anything else she could do while her sister was away. So, she began making a small bag, something that strapped across her body, before Zandala asked her if she was ready.

“Yes mama!” Out running she went after Zandala had stepped out. “What are we getting today?” She asked as they walked.

Zandala 2

“A gift for Lumikani,” Zandala said as they walked through the village. She nodded to those who greeted her the same way and ignored those who gave her jealous glances. They were still the only Alkidike couple who had been granted two blooms instead of one. If people still felt jealous, Zandala ignored them they were not worth her time.

“I’d like to celebrate our time together.” She said glancing down at Kanika and placing a hand on her hair to pat her gently. “These things are important.” She murmured to her daughter quietly. One day, Kanika would have her own partner; she needed to learn these things.

Kanika 2

A gift to celebrate their time together? Kanika didn’t really understand it, but to her a gift was a gift. It didn’t matter the reason, giving gifts was always a good thing.

“Do you think I could get something for Zayanna?” She asked out of pure curiosity. Couldn’t they celebrate their time together too? Or just celebrate being alive! Maybe celebrate Elzira, maybe she’d get her mother tree something too. Something to tie around a root. A small trinket of sorts. She didn’t want to tell her mother, but she promised herself that she would find something on her own.

Zandala 3

“I don’t see why not.” She said as they finally reached the market place. Her eyes scanned the few small stands and she moved to the first one. They were selling some baskets.

“Do you think mom would like these?” She asked Kanika, maybe the Elaria had some sort of insight that she didn’t have. She knew she wasn’t as close to Lumikani as some of the other Alks were with their partner. But she was learning, or at least she hoped she was doing better. She eyed the baskets; something told her she wouldn’t like these. They were much too mundane items.

Kanika 3

Kanika moved closer to the baskets and made a face. No, Lumikani would definitely not like a new basket.

“No,” she murmured quietly, looking up at her mother. “Maybe something more battle ready?” She didn’t really know how to explain in. Kanika moved on to the next stand, the woman behind it smiled at her. Kanika ignored her and instead looked at the pretty cords. This would be good for Elzira and also her sister, she turned back to her mother.

“What about something like this for Zayanna and mom?” It was something Lumikani could tie somewhere out of her way.

Zandala 4

Zandala followed after her daughter, thanking the basket weaver with a nod of her head before she moved on. Kanika was right, this would not be the proper gift for Lumikani.

“I think that would be a nice gift,” Zandala moved closer, picking up a few of the cords and fingering them to test their strength. She especially like the one that was made up like Elzira, but a cord with a bloom was also particularly interesting. She spoke out to the merchant.

“Would you be able to do something like this but with two blooms instead of one?” Perhaps she could get something custom made.

Kanika 4

The merchant tilted his head and glanced at Kanka briefly.

“Why yes of course,” she said proudly.

“Kanika picked out a pinkish grey cord for Elzira, extending it out to her mother. “I want this for someone and can I have a bloom trinket too? One for me and one for Zayanna?” She wanted to keep her sisters bloom maybe on a necklace or something sort of trinket close to her. The other would be given to her sister.

“I can also do that,” the merchant said nodding, eyes lighting up. This was going to be a very good deal for her!

Zandala 5

“Good good,” Zandala was a little confused as to why Kanika needed the beautifully twisted rope but did not question her daughter. She probably had some sort of project in mind.

“How much will this all be?” If it had been up to her she would have gotten Lumikani a trinket with not only Elzira but their mother tree back home as well. She knew however that if she requested something like this now it would be highly frowned upon. She didn’t want to get Lumikani in trouble and so the two blooms of their children would do just fine.

Kanika 5

“Expensive,” the merchant nodded her head as she calculated in her head.

Kanika watched her with disatisfaction, not just because she’d said it would be expensive but also because she had no notion of currency and she thought the merchant ought to have handed it to them without such a fuss.

“At least three bags of goods worth,” she finally said.

Nope, Kanika did not like this woman at all. She knew how much that was, knew how much time her mother spent scavenging for those goods.

“Too expensive mom.” Kanika concluded looking up to Zandala to see her reaction.

Zandala 6

Zandala looked down at Kanika and her outspokenness and simply gave her a small smile and pet her head a little to help her settle down. She also thought that was quite expensive for what they were asking.

“I am sure we can find something else for that price.” Zandala said and nodded to the merchant, surely something such as these items wasn’t so expensive. Those goods were worth a lot for them, she felt cheated the woman would ask for so much.

“Come one Kanika, let’s see what else we can find out here hm?” Zandala turned away from the stand.

Kanika 6

Kanika was a little said when her mother said it was time to go. She thought these gifts were the perfect items to give not only to her sister but also to her mother tree. She sighed softly, gave one last glance at the items before placing them back on the merchants stall. Maybe next time, when she was older and bigger.

“Wait,” the merchant called. “Half price, I will do it for half the price.”

Kanika turned around, smile on her lips as she glanced up at her mother. “This is a good price moma.” Her little hands closed into fists, she hoped Zandala would say yes.

Zandala 7

Zandala turned around, hands behind her back and expression neutral. She wanted to make the merchant sweat a little, believe that she hadn’t quite caught her customers yet. Then slowly the taller Alk made her way over, and presented her hand to the merchant.

“Alright that’s a deal.” Zandala smiled.

The merchant took her hand and shook it. Before going over some of the details of the items and then bagging them. Zandala paid the price and the handed Kanika the little bag.

“And that is how you do business.” She said with a nod of her head once they were far enough from the merchant.

Kanika 7

Kanika watched and let her mother do the dealings; it looked like she knew exactly what she was doing. So this was also a lesson for Kanika it looked like. Well she was certainly learning a lot, and it wasn’t just about currency. Kanika grabbed the bag from her mother and opened it up to make sure all the items were inside; satisfied she closed it again and grabbed her mother’s hand.

“This was a good day,” she said if a nod her head. She would remember not to always take the first price offered to her and wait a bit.
