Ella was bored. She had finished her schoolwork and couldn't find Quilo, which meant she was alone. She hadn't really made friends. The thought itself sent a little shudder down her tiny spine. Oh, sure, Korvau may equal someone she was friendly with, but she just met the boy. She didn't consider that a meaningful and long-lasting friendship just yet. So, the school grounds were patrolled, little imp tail wiggling behind her. Nothing looked interesting. She could check the clubs out.... but.... that meant strangers. No, she was good.
The sound of metal clicking caught her attention, picking up her pace until she turned the corner to see a small child about her own age working away on a ..... robot? It looked like a robot. No, scratch that, it looked like a metal spider with a sheep body. What was that thing?

River had been working diligently on her robot. She had, for days, been trying to catch Mr. Jude long enough for him to assist her, but he was busy, and she couldn't fault him for that. So, away to her robot she went. The purpose was to create something that could travel almost any land terrain. Water would come later. So far, she had almost finished her project, but it'd taken a day longer than she would have liked. Worrying away at the robot, River almost didn't notice the hybrid standing by the corner, head raising to acknowledge her.
Wait, no, she could be useful. The litch immediately shifted, nodding towards the other student. "Are you preoccupied with something else? Could you help me for a second, maybe?" She tried to lift her tone, failing completely. Oh well, it didn't really matter.

Was she.... what was that big word? Ella shook the question away, offering a nervous smile to the pretty litch. She didn't have any plans..... surely she could spare a moment to help.
"Yes!" She squeaked back, approaching the metal beast and its companion. She shot the robot a nervous glance, hands tugging at her tail briefly before she closed the gap between her and the girl attending to the robot. Tilting her head, Ella bent down just a little to see what she was doing.
"What can I do?" She piqued up, running a hand up to tug absently at her hair.

Ah, good, a willing hand. River shifted to give the other room, gesturing to her metal creature. The panel in the back had been removed and River was neatly fussing with gears inside. She noted the surprise on the other child's face when they walked up, dismissing it entirely. Instead, she gestured towards the toolbox beside her, returning her attention to the open beast.
"Hand me things. This will go faster if I do not need to stop every few seconds to grab a new tool." She ordered, only taking a break for all of five seconds before sending another command. "Hand me the screwdriver, if you will."

Oh, okay, right into it. Ella wasn't sure if the other girl was just quiet or.... bossy? And the monotone tone didn't really make Ella feel like she was exactly wanted, but she was needed! Ella always liked helping! Squirming, she poked around in the toolbox, deciding to strike up a conversation while she was at it.
"So," Ella began, setting tools she didn't need aside. "I'm Ella." She had taken a minute to stop looking, extending her hand to River for a polite shake.

River had busied herself with locating each area she needed for the screwdriver, ignoring the clumsy fumbling of the other child in favor of her work. However, when a screwdriver was not presented and instead a name and hand was extended, River did look up, looking at the hand and then behind the other child – Ella – before casting her attention on the child.
"River. Where is my screwdriver?" Okay, so, she was terrible at conversing. River always favored a quick and blunt way of communication, which didn't earn her any friends to speak of. Still, the question remained, where was her screwdriver?

Instantly, the hybrid flushed, looking at her abandoned hand and quickly setting it down. Right, screwdriver. Ella threw herself back into looking for the tool, pink cheeks brightening as she frantically tried to find a way to save the mood. River seemed irritated now. Okay, well.... maybe commenting on her name might help? Or did she just not like talking?
Or... did she just not like Ella?
The hybrid cast that thought aside, reaching over to hand the found screwdriver before letting out a nervous laugh. "River? That's a really pretty name. Who gave you that?"

Giving a nod when she accepted the screwdriver, River at first didn't hear the comments, too absorbed by her work. She didn't respond immediately, savoring the question instead. How did one answer that? She never was fond of talking about the days before the academy, but, honestly, she just wanted to work on this robot.
"My mother wrote a letter on my basket when she left me here." River stated, biting the inside of her cheek as she focused on the robot. Alright, a turn here, a twist there.... good. Done. For now. The litch leaned backwards, closing the panel and screwing it in place before turning to the nervous hybrid, blankly staring at her.
"Do you want to turn it on?" There, Kirket would be proud.

Oh Nine. She had asked something stupid. Ella wanted to apologize, but before she could River had turned, asking the worst question. No, she really didn't want to turn this metal devil on. It was twice her size at least, and she wasn't even sure how River got so high to make it. That, and it looked like a monster from horror movies. But, in the interest of maybe making a new friend, she gave a tiny nod, eyes wide and terrified. Surely this couldn't go badly, right?
"S-sure." Ella stammered, eyes drifting to the button beside the panel. River had nodded to it, indicating it was her turn to now..... resurrect the monster. Okay..... just.... press the button...
Here goes nothing...

Ella pressed the button. River sat up, eying her creation with a critical gaze. Here was the moment of truth.
'Whiiiiir!'
And awake it was! With a click of metal and a whine of sound, the metal creature shifted. River ignored the shriek of her companion, instead watching her metal creation shift and stand taller. Good. Now, would it start walking like she programmed it to?
Walk it did. And then skip. And then run.
Now, normally, any student would chase after a robot stampeding through the hallway, but River was not anyone. Instead, she watched each movement, vaguely proud she had even created a moving experiment. Any child, also, would be frantically trying to turn said robot off when the sound of it slamming itself into walls (and breaking walls) could be heard. Instead, River noted how durable the beast was. Perfect. Splendid. She'd need to make some changes, but so far? She was pleased.
Until the sound of Ms. Ava could be heard. Instantly, the litch stood up, staring at the hole in the wall (and ones following it) before giving a curt nod. She did not want to deal with Ava screaming again. Surely that could wait? She had to write down her calculations! She'll come find Ava when she was done and receive the wrath then.
"Thank you." She looked down at her cringing partner, shrugging briefly before heading the other direction, picking her pace up slightly when she heard the familiar sounds of a certain woman trying to locate her.

Ella hadn't expected the series of events. When it started walking she had assumed it had begun. The monster would destroy the entire school, murder everyone, and take over the world. Wasn't that how that one movie went? Then, it had begun skipping, which, at first was funny. For a second her terror had turned into laughter. Then, the dreaded happened; it ran. Not only that, but it also smashed into the walls, creating large, robot sized holes. She was dead. She had just helped another student make a monster, and Ava was going to kill her.
Speaking of Ava....
She heard the familiar shriek of the Headmistress, cringing into herself, hands flying to her ears. Oh Nine, she was doomed! Her mom would be so mad, too! Ava would call Lyra, or, worse, enter her classroom and tell her! Her mom would flip! She turned, only to see River.... leaving?! Wait wait wait, no! She had to help her! Before she could fight a response from herself, the litch was gone, leaving poor Ella to just stare at the wreck of the hallway.
Oh Nine, making friends was not fun!!!
