Racing through the underbrush, Tuu kept his eyes on the prize. There, floating teasingly just out of reach, was a leaf. If it weren't for the wind, he just knew he would have had it by now. But no, no... the wind was in cahoots with the leaf. Just a little lower... THERE! Tuu thought, waiting for a dip in the leaf's flight to strike. Launching himself up, he took a swipe at the leaf and missed by a hair. Landing in a most glorious manner, he tumbled down a slope to land in a dense clump of grass near a stream. Wriggling around until he got himself upright again, he shot the leaf a dirty look as it danced away. "You're taunting me now, aren't you?" Tuu scowled as his prey escaped. Muttering to himself, he padded to the edge of the stream to lap up some of the cooling water. At least this latest escapade wasn't a total failure. He'd found a source of water, which was much better than a leaf. Now to find a place to hide...

☽x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟx☾xx stood quietly, eerie yellow eyes watching the Pup chase and hunt his little leaf. A small smile quirked the corners of the Alpha's lips. Agile, isn't he? Someday, those leaps and twirls and well-executed tumbles would come in handy. But the child had quite a while before he needed to worry about such things.
Kestrel's smile fell abruptly. If only I had experienced the same... He had barely any memories of his puphood, and all of them were focused around training and fighting, learning stealth and Skill and potion and poison...tSome childhood. The horned male gave his head a quick jerk, snapping himself out of his thoughts, the bell hanging from his horn tinkling softly.
The noise clearly caught the Pup's attention, and his head snapped up from lapping at the stream, turquoise eyes meeting otherworldly gold. Inclining his head slightly, Kes padded down the gentle slope. "I mean you no harm, little one." He was positive the Pup would recognize his Mark, but still, introductions were protocol. "I'm Kestrel, Alpha of Howlsong. I see you gave that leaf quite a scare." Though his voice was calm, a deep, lilting cadence, mirth twinkled in his gaze.

Ear flicking toward a strange new sound, Tuu sharply glanced up in the direction it came from. Upon seeing a grown Varsythe, he almost cringed. With no parents or pack around to protect him, he'd had to learn how to think quickly on his paws. Not all Varscythe could be trusted to hold by what they said... he'd seen what the Vileclaws could do. Casting about for a place to hide while backing up, ears flat, Tuu grinned weakly. "I was feelin' in a good mood an' let it go. It'll warn the other leaves to not mess with Tuuluuwaq."
His eyes drawn to Kestrel's face, they were held there as if by some force beyond his understanding. Freezing in mid-step, Tuu stared at the glowing eyes and the mark. He almost whined; with fear or awe, he wasn't sure. "You're... you're him, aren't you..?" His voice was faint but full of wonder. He'd heard stories about a white wolf who was said to resemble the White Alpha. He thought they were just that; stories. To see the real deal before him... I must be dreaming. Mum told me one of her stories again, and I fell asleep before she was done. Just like before... He thought.

☽x K ᴇ s ᴛ ʀ ᴇ ʟx☾xx The Alpha male saw the Pup's shock and the flash of fear that went through him; clearly, he didn't trust adult Varsythe. A frown marred the snowy male's brow as he sat back on his haunches as the young male flicked his eyes around for an escape route, ears pressed flat to his small skull. How endearing. Kestrel quirked a small smile, returning the Pup's grin.
"Well. I'm quite sure the leaves for miles will tremble at the sound of your howl." Eerie yellow eyes met the Pup's gaze, and he saw the child's muscles stiffen; clearly, he recognized who Kestrel was. The Alpha suppressed a sigh. It got tiring, having everyone know who and what he was -- they treated him differently, and it made sneaking around anonymously nigh impossible. A soft, high noise reached the male's long ears, and he cocked his head to the side, realizing the Pup let out a soft noise.
At the child's words, Kes inclined his head and sank down to his chest, laying down in front of the Pup to be eye-level with him. "I am the Heir, yes..." His deep voice rumbled in the Pup's chest, and it was almost as if his words resonated within the young male's mind. He lifted a paw, tapping the Mark beneath his eye with a long claw. "This tells all I meet of my bloodline, my lineage, my so-called inheritance. Though to be quite honest with you, I'd much rather do without."
Seeing the confusion on the Pup's features, Kestrel explained. "The Mark means that I hear the Will of the Ancestors in my mind. Sometimes, they're merely a subtle whisper, and I'm able to tune it out. But others, the voice grows so loud that it sends me into fits from the sheer Power of it." The Alpha flicked a long ear. "But aside from that, and a bit more size and strength than most, I'm just like you, Pup. A wolf out in the big wide world." He offered the child another smile and picked up his large head, glancing around as his yellow eyes sought other Vurfang. "And where is your Pack? Surely your mother or your Sentinel didn't let you wander off on your own..?"

All tension easing from his tiny frame, Tuu stared in shock at Kestrel. The words and actions the alpha was saying and doing ran counter to everything Tuu had learned about what an Alpha was. It simply... wasn't done. He was thoroughly confused by now, and Kestrel's attempt to explain what the Mark did just made things even more confusing. Oh well. Trying to understand grownups wasn't worth his time. All he had to do around them was act cute and, when they weren't as on alert as they would be around other Varscythe... make a mad dash for freedom. Something told him he wouldn't have to worry about that around this particular Alpha, however...
"I en't gonna tell anyone else." Tuu said with a grin, which rapidly faded when asked of his family. He didn't really have a pack, just his parents and a sister. The sister, he'd been told, was sickly and had died. He trusted what his parents said, never doubting the truth of their words. And then... a moon or so later... Tuu's head hung, ears and tail drooping. "Don't got anyone. Just myself..." He didn't want to relive the nightmare of that night, not too long ago, when the moon was no more. In the dark, with no gentle glow to kiss the slumbering land below, monsters struck. They stole his parents away, sending them to eternal sleep. They had tried to steal him away too, but by sheer dumb luck he'd escaped. His tiny frame came to his rescue when he slipped away where they couldn't reach. He'd been on the run ever since.
