Sunny didn't really conceive of the passing of time the way people did. (Obviously.) She'd been out watching the tide roll in (as it did) when she realized the world was not as empty as it usually was. In fact, it had aroused... a lot of attention that Sunny was frankly uncomfortable with! So she'd gone towards the source of the disturbance, and found a wandering girl.

"Hey," said Sunny. "What're you doing by yourself?"

She didn't wait for an answer. "Stay put, it's dangerous to go alone." Sunny vanished. When she returned, two minutes later, it was with two recognizable cups of frozen coffee drink. She shoved one out at the human girl. "Best to be late with Starbucks," she advised. "'Cause... I dunno. Memes."

Sunny took a contemplated sip of her coffee drink.

"I'm Sunny," she said. "You want to go catch up with the rest of the mortals?"

Page had been documenting the changes they noted on their path. They didn't often feel the need to hurry, and Quixote was pleased to keep a regular pace. They were startled out of the thoughts by the woman who spoke outside of the forest entrance. "I, uh," Page started, before she left, only to return with coffee.

Page put her notepad in their pocket and took the coffee offered, feeling vaguely confused but not really in any position to turn it down. "Oh! Thank you. I'm Page," they replied, and took a sip of the cold drink. Mortals? They did want to find some other people. The emptiness of the city was very unnerving. "And um, sure. You know where they are?"

Probably in the forest, where the voices had been compelling them to go.

"Yeah. They're that way," said Sunny, pointing. "You humans are like bad notes in a symphony. Or seeds in lemonade. Not hard to find, yo."

She started off down the muddy path, apparently unconcerned about the state of her Uggs. "What're you doing here, anyway? I thought just Finnward and his boyf could come in here."

Page tucked a loose strand of hair behind their ear and followed Sunny with a vague nod, their cat keeping pace. Well, she was closer to Sunny than Page. "So I'm really in that other Ashdown, then?" they mused. At least that means it wasn't just a weird dream... probably. Everyone who grew up here knew the stories about this place. "I'm not really sure why... or how. It was just raining outside even though it wasn't supposed to be, and when we went through the door, we ended up here, you know?" they said, glancing at Quixote.

Sunny nodded. "You're pretty calm about it," she said. "S'cool of you, mija. But huh. Weird."

Granted, humans often just didn't know when they passed through... She looked down at the cat following at her heels. "Aw, pretty baby, c'mere. Your paws'll get all muddy." Sunny stopped and crouched to pick up the cat as it followed her.
