Jacinthus, his student Vhaile, and their cargo of four aldabuk were about half way back to Yera when he realized that the very thing that they wanted to avoid had happened. They were being followed by witu. It was something that put Jacinthus on edge, making his teeth grit slightly, but after moving to fall into step alongside Vhaile he didn't do anything else but continue forward.
"We aren't alone but unless they get closer we won't do anything against them." Jacinthus said. He wasn't sure yet how many of the witu were out there, all they knew for certain was that they were being followed by the annoying pests. He could hear them growling and howling, hear their footsteps though they were still distant enough. He knew that if they kept going they might be alright, but if they stopped the witu would very well try to get into their food. The last thing that he wanted was for one of them to dig its fangs into the aldabuk or worse, Vhaile. If that happened then the boy was certain to have his fears creep back up... which wasn't something he could allow. If the boy got too scared there was always that chance he would want to run again... He wanted for the boy to keep at it and wasn't about to let some mangy witu mess it up for both Yera and Vhaile. He'd take the mutts out before he allowed that to happen.
"You're sure? It sounds like they are surrounding us... what should we do, Jacinthus?" Vhaile asked, his tone of voice showing his fear clearly, which wasn't something that sat well with Jacinthus since that meant that he might very well have to do more then just walking forward. Not yet though, not until he was forced to make a move by the beasts... or by Vhaile.
Instead he merely said in what he hoped was a reassuring voice, "They are, but that isn't a reason to get upset. They are holding back, waiting for an opening, and we aren't going to give them one. We are going to keep going toward Yera and once we get close enough they will flee like the cowards that they are." He knew the witu wouldn't approach Yera, not too close at least, because there were hunters there that were ready and willing to kill them the moment they showed their faces. The witu would flee the moment that the village came into view so he felt it was best that they just kept going, without pause.
The younger hunter gave a nod of his head, looking around the area, trying to seek out the witu stalkers even as he continued forward. Jacinthus patted him on the shoulder before he decided that he would try to reassure his student with more then just his words. He started by drawing an arrow, notching it, and stayed at the ready feeling that it would make the boy feel better seeing Jacin armed. It seemed to work too as the boy seemed to relax again, at least enough that Jacinthus felt sure that the boy wouldn't panic. At least he really hoped not.
The two of them did as Jacinthus wanted, pushing forward toward Yera, with Jacinthus staying at the ready. He had to wonder if the witu knew what it was that they were trying to do as the closer they got to home the louder the witu seemed to get. Not to mention that they were starting to get closer as well, actually coming into view a few times, allowing them to get a good look at those who were following after them. Jacinthus blinked a couple times, then gave a smile as he murmured to Vhaile, "Only three of them following us, not a full pack. That's a good sigh." Likely just a few younger males that had gotten sent packing from their pack due to their age. As such they weren't as big a threat as some witu could be, especially the bigger packs of them.
One of them, a foolish one, came rushing forward toward them suddenly, snarling, teeth barred. It wasn't a smart move as the moment it made itself a clear and present threat Jacinthus released his arrow. The arrow buried itself through the beast's open mouth and up into its brain, dropping it instantly. The quick death of the witu force the other two to retreat for a time. Jacinthus gave a smirk and said, "Keep going Vhaile." With that he hurried to where the still form of the witu lay, scoop it up over his shoulders, and moved to catch up with Vhaile. Once he'd caught up the pair were once more on their way.

The remaining two witu, which ran off for a time, were nothing if not persistent as they reappeared some time later. It was something that caused Jacinthus to sigh, the older hunter having thought that they had given up the chase though it seemed that wasn't to be the case. Instead they meant to continue on following the two Leaf Tribesmen and the meat that they carried with them. Lazy beasts, both of them, not willing to put in the time or effort to do their own hunting when there was 'free' food to be had in the form of the aldabuk that Jacinthus and Vhaile had hunted down. They would prefer to risk the same fate as the third witu if it meant that they would be able to get free food... which made no sense to Jacinthus. If they wanted a meal they should hunt one down, surely it was better then ending up like the witu that Jacin was carrying, wasn't it? According to the two young witu that didn't seem to be the case. It wasn't that important though what they thought because up ahead on the horizon he could see Yera coming into view.
"We don't have that far to go now. If they keep following us then the other hunters will see to it that they regret the decision. It's hard to say if they are going to turn around given that they seem to be young and stupid." They might not know yet how dangerous it was to approach a village or how many hunters would be willing to shoot the witu down. If others did so, good, they would be theirs to claim, which would be a good thing for some of the younger hunters in the village to do. Witu hides were still going for a decent price meaning that they would be able to get some pocket money if they prepared the skin correctly. Not to mention that witu meat was edible in a pinch. Not Jacin's favorite but he wasn't really all that picky, willing to take any source of food he could find if it meant a full belly.
Vhaile looked around for a moment, giving a nod of his head, "I will be happy to get back, I really need a break! I'm so tired after dragging this thing so far!" He complained, something that actually had Jacinthus laughing despite the situation that they were in presently.
"Don't think that the moment we get back that its going to be time for a nap, Vhaile. There is still a lot that needs to be done including skinning our kills, preparing the hides, and butchering out the meat. There are still hours of work that need to be done." A claim that caused the boy to trip over his own feet before he was able to regain himself. Jacinthus shook his head, "If the other hunters are around, and you're willing to share your cut of the meat, perhaps you can get some aid." He could only hope that they would be willing to help Vhaile out given that the boy had abandoned the first hunt. The other fledgling hunters would remember that and it might color their thoughts about Vhaile.
"Trade meat for help? I... might do that." It was a tempting trade, one that could allow him to get some rest sooner then later. Jacinthus knew it was a hard trade to consider since it meant that he had less meat to barter with for other things. He'd leave it up to him to decide he thought to himself as he looked back toward where the witu were trailing behind, noticing that the distance between them and the beasts was growing. It seemed that they had noticed the village, likely smelled the other earthlings within it, and they were starting to give up. Good, that meant that they would be able to get to work the moment they got back. Something that put Jacinthus into an even better mood then the one he was presently in.
