Mara stared at her computer screen with annoyance as she leaned back in her chair where she tried to put her words in order before attempting to type again. A half forgotten cup of coffee sat right by it and she just sigh closes her eyes and attempting to relax. She bit back a groa and snapped her eyes open as she looked toward her phone, reaching for it and glancing at the number. Eyebrows raised up in surprise as she slide and answered. "Well hello " she said not mentioning the other person's name.
x
She began to smile, a rare sight indeed. "Hello there... " she spoke calmly. "I wanted to let you know that I am sending you a gift, since my name won't be on it." she announced with a twinge of amusement in her voice. "The way I see it, you're better equipped to handle this gift anyway. I'd hate for it to get into the wrong hands. Besides, it's being misused now anyway." she explained. Tilting her head to the side, she held the phone on her shoulder, adjusting her glasses then began to type quickly on the computer. "I hope you don't mind." her smile conveyed in the way she talked. She may have been devious, but she was being fairly genuine about the matter.
x
Mara blinked and straightened in her chair. A gift well.. that was unexpected. A gift could be many things and considering the person it might be a stretch of the word itself. Still... she did say she was better equip to handle it. "Surprises, my favorite" she muttered sarcastically but there was a faint smirk on her lips as she leans back against the chair again. If it was on the way it was on the way and so far none of their talks have indicated any hint of disapproval with the other... if they even talked of work at all. It was amusing in it's own way and sometimes hard to forget things could be a double edge sword. "Would said gift at least have directions, I hope?"
x
She let out a small laugh, "Oh, trust me. She has a lot of instructions..." she hinted at the nature of the gift. She typed a little more then hit the enter key. "Should be arriving shortly." she then stretched lightly and leaned back in her chair. "I've had a lot of time to think, and as reluctant as I am to take a side in all this... you know my hand is forced in a lot of it,.. this is all I can do to help." she further explained. She picked up her mug and took a sip of coffee.
x
Mara wondered what would have happened if she hadn't been able to answer the phone..if the "gift" would have been left waiting there unknowingly. Or until she just checked her phone and called back... yeeep. "I will send someone out to receive it then" she shook her head still amused though as she switched screens on her phone and sent Tri a text. "Still it makes me curious... a year ago I would have understood but why now.. why me? Why not your former place? With me they will be honed, with the others they will be supposedly "safe" . Unless you have suspicions of your former home?" a partial tease and a partial dig for information at the same time.
x
"I don't know him, the man that opened my former home . I want to trust him, but I can't. Besides, this is going to require a special touch. I know what you're capable of.. what you are trying to do. I'm trusting that I'm not making a mistake." she sighed, her eyes narrowing, concentrating idly on her mug as she traced her finger around its edge. "My old laboratory isn't built to handle her . And if this Rhun guy is as genuine as he says he is, it would be unfortunate if they lost control of her. Where she is now, they'll get what they need for ulterior motives and destroy her. At least with you, everyone stands a chance at stopping the bloodshed. Or maybe I'm wrong.." she chuckled, "Well, it's too late to stop what's set in motion I guess."
x
"I see" Mara tapped the arm rest absently. "I will do what I can then " she said finally after a pause as she quickly through over the implications. It wasn't as if she could afford to look a gifted horse in the mouth and if this person was as large a danger as Kae thought then they really might be the best place for this person to be. "As for -that- man. I have one of mine investigating the area. Anything specific you might want to know or need from there?" she asked quietly as she leaned forward slightly and pushed the chair back to the window and glanced down to the courtyard below.
x
Her face twinged in hesitation at the question. She thought for a moment about what to answer. Whether to even ask about those she had considered family. "There is nothing left there I am interested in." she stated bluntly. She twisted her lips, unsatisfied with the answer she gave. "I just don't want them to tarnish my name farther than it already has been." she added, half-reluctant to leave it at that, but it would have to do. Her feelings were complicated, they always had been, but now more than ever.
x
Mara nodded even if she couldn't see her. The answer didn't surprise her entirely still she had excepted maybe a bit of curiosity. "Thought i'll ask. I'll pass you anything that I think you might want to know then... for the betterment of your name of course" she smirked, betterment... when a few of the Renegades shared her last name. That has always been a point of avoidance.
x
"I'm glad you understand." her voice seemed more steady now, genuinely relieved that Mara understood her situation. "Well the transport should be at your place in 30 minutes." she closed a window on her computer and closed her eyes with a smile. "Also, tell your boys not to be afraid of her but not to under estimate her either. She's just a child." she added, amused at the thought of what could have had ensued.
x
"Hah! you enjoy this don't you? well ...i'll pass it along. " She chuckled even at the trepidation that those words brought on. She was sure this gift was going to give her some headaches for the upcoming days.. but seems like it might be worth it. "Talk to you later then?"
x
"We'll be in touch." she responded with a smile, then hung up the phone. She was curious how this would play out, finally making any kind of move in all that had happened. She was fairly confident whatever did come of this, would be a definite game changer in this lingering war that still secretly raged on.

Mara looked at the phone and put it back on the desk before getting up and stretching. Well seems Dr Kae was starting to dip her toes back into the water of the situation. Whether she continued or picked a side that wasn't her own... was anyone's guess. For now they were on the same side and that really the best she could hope from many of her contacts. She picked up the phone and send Tri another text with the approximate time. At least there was some to grab a donut from one of the bakeries downstairs.. or three.
