"One day, just one day, no calls and no creeps asking how much for a good time, and that's too much to ask." Vespertine was in a mood. She felt red all the way up to her ears, and she was hissing words to herself under her breath as she stormed from her dorm on campus toward her destination. She should've known. Should've known that staying in the dorm was a bad idea. Should've known that being too open with her relationship woes would come back to haunt her. Ves would blame all of that on her kind and trusting nature. But now, it was three weeks after the story had been spilled, and she'd gotten one too many half-suppressed snickers while walking down the hall. She needed to get the hell off campus. She looked up from her phone to take in the house before her. Looked nice. Big place, decent. She swept up the porch steps and rapped smartly on the door. "Hi, I'm Vespertine - uh, Ves." She always made a distinction - Ves for friends, or potential friends. Vespertine for the old guys. "I called about the rooms you have open." About half an hour ago, on a whim, after spotting the listing in a fit of rage about the last proposition she'd had to turn down. Lucky timing, she guessed. (Okay for them all to meet at once, I hope!)

Nasir was not leaving for work for another couple of hours, not having any classes for the day and relaxing around the house. They almost always had a flier up about possible roommates. Mostly it was because their house was being used as a temporary place by people who were on the outs with their significant others.
Which meant they hadn't really paid anything for they were bailing out on them. It wasn't like they needed the money to make sure they could afford renting the place but it wouldn't hurt either. The house really was too large for just the two of them. It clearly had meant to be some kind of frat house but was too small with only four bedrooms. (Nasir may have also picked the house because of the completely redone and state-of-the-art kitchen that had been put in. Also that there was a hot tub out back.)
A dark strand of hair was pushed away from his face, Nasir heading to the door when he heard the voice of the young woman who could. "I'm getting the door Wil! It's the one who called about rooming with us," he called out. It would never be any other way. Nasir was always the one who got the door. Dark eyes glanced towards the living room as he went by, spying Wil's mop of blonde curls and bare shoulders.
Apparently he had already reached the take off the shirt stage of the room being warm.
The door was pulled open not even a minute after Vespertine had knocked, Nasir there with a warm and friendly smile. "Hi! It's good to meet you, go ahead and come in." He was very much the epitome of young and friendly and his smile might be contagious.
Might be. MoonRazor wanna PM halo and me whatever story details that nasir might have heard? lol that way he can be kind of like uhhhh about something or the other during the next part.

Wil was on the couch, wondering if he should put on a shirt but not actually making the motions to do so. He was blue eyes and freckles and a messy mop of blonde curls with several day old stubble and the expression and smell of a stoner. He glanced towards the door, finding the girl's face familiar, and working through the brain muddle at the moment to remember where from. He scratched his nose (was it the banged a professor girl? or illegitimate love child of the dean girl? Maybe balloon fetish girl? Hmmm) and Nasir and Ves's entrance to the room garnered only a, "Sup" with a small smile.

"Thanks!" Nasir's warmth was contagious. She hadn't expected such an effusive grin. Couldn't help but mirror it as she stepped into the house. She didn't even wrinkle her nose at the vaguely familiar smell of weed as she unbuttoned her peacoat and unraveled the cashmere scarf around her neck. "Hi," she said with a small wave when she caught sight of Wil, shirtless and look more than a little stoned on the couch. "Love the hair thing you have going on. Looks good on you." Ves could live with that. Probably. Better than staying on campus surrounded by the vicious rumors she wished she could squash with the heel of her boots. "Great to meet you guys. This place looks comfortable. What's the story behind the rooms?" She didn't hesitate to get down to business. Then again, maybe part of her was hoping to get in and out and make a good first impression before either of them recognized her from... someone or other's whispered gossip.

The weed smell was totally going to have to be a thing she got used to if she wanted to live in this place. Nasir did not seem phased himself, didn't have the same kind of glassy eyed appearance of his friend. He was raising a hand to his hair to make sure that she wasn't talking about him.
There were no barrettes holding his hair back at the moment. That was for when he went to work.
He blinked at Ves getting right down to it and made a gesture for her to sit in one of the chairs while he nudged Wil over to claim the couch. The couch was clearly Wil and Nasir land. "Ah, well ..." He scratched at his head. "Last couple of people were just looking for a place to crash while they were on the outs with their significant others."
Which reminded him. Was Ves that one girl? The one that like ... had a thing for older guys? Or was it that she was ill? Or was it some weird freaky fetish? (Definitely did not believe that entire prostitution thing that was going around because that was as ridiculous as there being a witch on a beach.)
"So they never really stuck around and ..." Nasir frowned briefly, it was so out of place on his face. "We've been looking for roommates. We've actually already got one room on hold for someone so there's only one room available at the moment."

Wil watched her with a glazed sort of expression, squirming and turning until he was on his belly with his head on his hands. He was like a sleepy rubberband in the form of a stoner. "Each floor has two rooms. I texted you the rent arrangements..." His head rolled to the side, curls bobbing lightly, "I handle all the money stuff." He didn't seem reassuring in appearance but Wil smiled pleasantly and since the house seemed to be in good condition he must be an adequate money manager. "Each floor has a bathroom so you have to share." He yawned a moment, "We're not like gonna discriminate though... so you could end up sharing with anyone of any kind..." He pursed his lips, "You cool with that?"

She didn't miss Nasir's hand going to his hair. "Yours too," she said. " Great hair all around." She meant it too. There was something about hair that didn't just stick out straight that always made Ves stop and take note. It made things so much more interesting. "Well, I'm not on the outs with any significant others," she said. "Not that I'm aware, anyway." Neither of them had brought up any of the stories she'd heard being tossed around behind her back yet. Ves was cautiously optimistic. Maybe living off campus had sheltered Wil and Nasir from the gossip that was currently going around... She'd have thought fewer people who care, but Ashdown was a small enough community that, apparently, any story was a good story. "I'm not picky. I'm just trying to get off campus. I can share anything with anyone- I mean... I'll share the bathroom. That's totally fine."

Neither one of them were really the kind to bring up stories - that might not actually be true, Ves, sorry - and it didn't seem like it was a thing would affect her being a roomie. If anything Nasir was likely more concerned about what Ves thought about Wil than what he thought about her.
If you didn't like Wil that immediately put you on the watch list. (Yes, Detective Mercer, Nasir was watching you.) He glanced to Wil briefly and then back to Ves. No one really did believe him when he told them that Wil handled his taxes and all the house finances but the other hadn't ever done anything but good. "Well if that's not a problem then you can look at the rooms. It's the second floor, the third is Wil and myself."
He prodded a freckled shoulder, as if implying Wil should come with if they were going to show the rooms off. (Or just maximize the amount she was around Wil. Did we mention you had to like Wil? Nasir gets paranoid with new people sometimes, okay. Not that you could tell, he was all smiles at Ves.) Honestly this was going very well. Better than the last girl they had showed the place too. She had made a face at sharing the bathroom.
"Oh and ... we don't really have a curfew here obviously." Nasir chuckled. "You don't have to be back in by a certain hour or anything and when it comes to food, I'm a chef, so I tend to make dinner when I'm not working for the house." There was always more than enough to go around and it was so very tasty. "If you want to contribute to groceries for the house you can or you can provide your own groceries." That would not be touched. "Doesn't mean you're not welcome to have some of whatever I cook." Nasir fed everyone.

Wil had spaced out a moment, and blinked back to awareness when he was prodded. He was still stuck between 'chick who likes old dudes' and 'chick who kissed a dog once, like, KISSED a dog'. The blonde decided neither rumor seemed too terrible so she passed that test. "Ummm recreation space down here. This living room has all the electronics and stuff. The other one across the hall is just a sitting area. It's good for studying or if you have a project you need space to do." Wil blinked slowly at her, "I'm an art major." He finally hauled his body upright like it was the most difficult thing in the world, though he had an easy, rubbery way of moving. A hoodie was pulled over his head because ... shirts. "And I have people over a lot. Different people. Same people. You cool?" He made smoking weed motions. Not subtle, but most didn't care about marijuana anymore.

"You'll feed us?" Ves could quite hide her surprise and excitement. People who enjoyed feeding others were good people in her book. And she wasn't a fantastic cook herself. Just last month, she'd considered it an achievement when she figured out how to poach and egg. "No, I'd be happy to contribute to house groceries. Maybe learn a thing or two from you? I've never been in a position to master cooking, so..." She grinned, a big old happy grin that she couldn't keep off her face. It could be so much fun, and... well, so far the tour wasn't going terribly. Which had to mean she hadn't completely flubbed her chances yet. "Art major? Art history," she said, pointing to herself. "What do you do?" She studied Wil for a moment, wondering if they might have crossed paths in class before. She'd taken a couple of intro classes as a freshman. And endless art history classes, of course. "And sure. I just need a place for my stuff, and other than that... food would be great. And people to hang out with would be nice, but really. Not picky." Besides, Wil had a terribly laid-back vibe that Ves quite enjoyed. He'd be helpful, no doubt, in making anyone relax. She needed that.

"I feed everyone," Nasir grinned. "I would also have no problem teaching you a few things if you want to learn." He stretched properly once they were moving, head rolling back and forth.
At hearing that Ves was an art major too he had another thought. Was she the one who had propositioned the older nude life model? No, that had been teacher, right? Nasir was not sure.
"If you want to learn certain meals you can just buy the ingredients and I can likely teach you how to cook." He was herding both of them, Wil and Ves, around the rooms as they were talked about and eventually going up the stairs to the second floor.
"You'll have plenty of room. This place was supposed to be a frat house but apparently no one wanted to have a frat house with just four in it." Why anyone had decided that this place would've been a good frat house, he had no idea. It was too small. "Ah and if I'm not here, I'm usually working at Darlene's. Wil is usually out and about during the day," he shot his friend a look, an amused smile because out and about was usually doing business. "So it's usually pretty quite here except for the occasional get together."

Wil waved a hand and smiled, "Like kinda everything.. painting and drawing and sculpture. Right now sculpture." His room was a mess actually. His art was also usually pretty weird but the oddness of the young man himself sort of sold it. Up the stairs they went until they got to the second floor. The stairs turned and went up again but they moved into the hall. Off center there was a bathroom door, the hall branching right and left to dead end at the doors of the rentable rooms. "Both rooms are the same but they are pretty big. Got doors joining the bathroom that you can lock so no one will see your goods." Wil smirked, "Ummm either side you can have I guess, they are the same. Oh and we are pet friendly too so I hope you don't have allergies." He wandered lazily down to open one of the doors, windows on at least 2 walls (but the view was of the wall of the building next door) and a good amount of space, enough that they could have couches and chairs in addition to the already present bed and desk. "Cool?"

"I'll take you up on that," she said to Nasir, allowing herself to be herded through the house. "I'd love to learn how to cook a thing or two." She peered into the rooms, taking it all in. More spacious than a dorm room, and a heck of a lot more living space. And food, and maybe the occasional hit. It all sounded like a much better deal than the dorms. "I'm cool with that," she said with a contented nod. "All of it. I can work with anything."

"Anytime, I may actually be doing a bit of a cooking ... class at some point," Nasir shook his head. "Mostly because there's several people that don't know how and I know a lot of easy things to cook." His eyes glanced over to Wil, the corner of his mouth twitching up into a bigger smile. This was good, they could totally get someone to live in the house that would not be bailing out. "If you want to, we have a rental agreement. Just to cover the bases and everything. What we've talked about. It's pretty simple but that way you know and we know and it's all good." MoonRazor DID YOU KNOW I AM THE WORST PERSON? Wil was looking like standing and walking was getting to be a chore at this point. He was leaning against one of the walls and yawning. "Yeah if you're good.." Which she seemed to be, on all counts, "Let's uhh get this show on the road?" They could go back downstairs where he could sit and she could give them all the info they needed.
