He was starting to think that he should have never gone to that festival. It was obviously a curse. Kadali had ditched him and everywhere he looked those two twins kept popping up. So of course he would be assigned together with one of them for a science project. All he needed was the purple haired one to pop out of the wood work. Although to give them credit, they hadn’t really pranked him yet. It was kind of strange, and he did have to admit it was nice to have acquaintances that weren’t his twin. With a sigh he tapped his pencil on to the piece of paper and stared at Pherein from across the table. He almost wanted to smack the grin that was on her face. Why did he have a feeling that they weren’t going to be actually working on the project today? Why did he have a feeling that he was probably going to get in trouble? Why did he ever think it would have been a wonderful idea to take refuge from the festival on that bench again? There was a lot of why’s now that he thought about it. “Could we at least spend a little bit of time on the assignment?” Baum asked although really he didn’t have much hope for it. Still Pherein got good grades. He had seen some of her tests by accident when he passed them to her since she had taken to sitting behind him in class.

Pherein stared at the boy in front of her. She really didn’t care that he was a mutant. She knew enough strange people that appearances really didn’t matter to her all that much. However Kieran was intrigued and it was the first time that Kieran had taken interest in a person so of course Pherein was going to figure out how he ticked. It was just sheer luck that they ended up paired together for the project, well that and the teachers probably wanted her to branch out away from Kieran for a while, which was really annoying but ah it gave her time to mess with Baum that was for certain. “Sure I guess we could talk about the assignment but really it’s a piece of cake. I’m not your average cookie and you don’t seem dumb either. After all Kie seems to like you. So it’s not like we can’t pull together the assignment tomorrow. One day off isn’t going to kill you and I want to see what is so amusing about you? ” Pherein replied making a nonchalant motion with her hands. She smiled when Baum’s head seemed to hit the table with a groan. “Well you do have good reactions I’ll give you that. Be careful these tables aren’t the best. I’d hate it if you got a concussion. Since then we’d have to go to the nurse’s office instead of finding iah and bothering him to take us out” she had to smirk again when he gave her that look of disbelief.

The world hated him… that or he was going to strangle Kadali for losing him in the first place. Sure it was great she was making new friends and they were uh, what was the world adults liked to use… ah yeah that was right. They were branching out and bringing new people into their sphere. He kind of missed the days that it was just them and they would hang out and do silly things or she would drag him off to haunted houses. He gave a slight shudder at the memories from the last one and shook his head when Pherein gave him a weird look.
However he was always the proper one wasn’t he… he always was strict and uptight. Maybe that’s why kadali was finding new people… because he wasn’t fun anymore. With his mind made up, he suddenly sat up and slammed his hands down on the table. “Yeah okay we’ll do the project tomorrow. Let’s go find Iah.” It was the first time he would be doing something not strict and proper and he was kind of looking forward to it. Pherein was known for getting away with things, so who better to go with and truth be told he kind of liked the attention the twins gave him. Kieran was actually really super funny. “Will Kieran be joining us?”

By this point in time Pherein’s eyebrow was practically in her hairline it was raised so high. This was actually really interesting. She wasn’t quite expecting him to just go along with her plan, but then again Kieran liked him so there had to be some sort of spark. The only question was could she find Iah. Korv was a lot better at it since Korv was actually Iah’s school assigned younger sibling but they had kind of all glomped on to him for lack of a better word. Ah well it would be a fun adventure if nothing else. She might even be tempted to try to sneak out but it would likely end up with her in detention and detention without Kieran just wasn’t fun.
“Nah Kieran has some other thing to do. We aren’t always connected at the hip you know” Pherein practically snorted. Everyone always thought because the twins were super, super close that it meant they were always together, which was a fair assumption but they did go out every once in a while and do their own things like the afternoon Pherein spent trying to catch her first pumpka. She had even sneaked back into the office a second time to get another pumpka for Kieran. So in all she kind of always hated that they just assumed she never wanted to spend time with people on her own. If Kieran was going to be there, they would be there. Then again maybe Baum would understand he was supposed to be a twin after all.

Ugh he didn’t need the raised eyebrows. It wasn’t like he was totally a stick in the mud. He had gone into haunted houses. He let Kadali drag him off into the more closed off areas. He also had kicked those seniors. He did plenty of mischievous things. However he supposed that he couldn’t entirely fault Pherein for being skeptical. He really only got dragged into those things due to his twin and since they hadn’t hug out recently Baum had been rather straight laced.
Mmm he had definitely screwed up there. He could read the slight flicker of annoyance that passed over pherein’s expression, but it had been weird to see Pherein by herself even if the twins had different classes this period, so he assumed that Kieran would probably join them later. “Ugh I mean it’s not like you can’t be by your side .I just wanted to know if I should expect them is all and” he trailed off running a hand through his hair. He never did manage to handle inserting his foot into his mouth very much. “Let’s just go. We don’t want him to be stuck in class right?”

“Hey, hey cool your jets. It’s fine. I’m just used to the whole ‘if you’re a twin thing you have to always be attached at the hip’. I do like having my own life even if pretty much Kieran and I are attached at the hip. You mentioned you have a twin right? So you might hopefully get it” Pherein commented. It would be kind of sad if he didn’t. It was nice to have a twin, some one that had always been with you even inside the stone. Some one that would always connected with you. Ah that was enough sappy thinking.
Besides there were other things to think about like the fun face Baum was making. The whole flustered thing was kind of cute as well but she wasn’t in the mood to pick on it. Baum looked off kilter enough as it was… like he was struggling with something. So it was the perfect thing to go and help him right? Kieran and Pherein pranked people to bring smiles to their faces after all. Well most of the time. Phe did have to admit that she often went overboard which lead to angry people and sometimes even detention. Well it wasn’t her fault that people didn’t have a sense of humor.

He did understand. There were a lot of weird conceptions about twins and sometimes people acted like twins without being from the same stone. So it always made no sense at him that there were things twins were supposed to be known for. Everyone had a different personality and situation after all. However that wasn’t really what Pherein was asking was it.
“Yeah I know the feeling. Well I knew the feeling, not so much anymore. It’s okay with me, I think. After all we all have to grow apart and become our own person eventually right? Plus my twin is happy and that’s all I could really ask for” Baum replied looking out the window. He shook his head and directed his gaze back over to where Pherein was seated. “However we’re getting off topic again. So what does iah look like? It would help to find him if I had a description."

“ Mmm yeah I guess it can’t always be a world of just you and your twin. It was kind of hard accepting new people into our sphere and I’m not entirely sure we’re still not mostly just us vs the world but there will probably be a day when we separate. I’m kind of afraid of it a little bit. After all it’s always been just Kieran and me. You know I wanted to meet you. Kieran always brings you up lately, well more than they bring other people up at least and I figured it was time that we met. I mean we met at the festival but I was more a by standard for that. You aren’t as bad as I feared actually.”
“Ah yes well Iah is a geist, he has black colored skin and white markings, although you don’t see most of them unless he’s swimming or at the beach. Uh, let’s see he also has black hair and gold eyes too,” Pherein tried explaining. Ugh if she was a bit older she could just illusion up a picture of Iah. “and he dresses really classy. Really really classy. Oh and he’s a junior”

Baum nodded along as Pherein talked, thinking this is why it was nice to talk to another twin. While he was correct in that everyone’s situations where a bit different and everyone had different personalities Pherein seemed to understand what he liked about being a twin. Even if your family had deserted you or dropped you off at least at the start of your life there was always someone with you. Seeing as Pherein had given a conversation change though Baum instantly jumped on it.
“Ah well I hope that I keep living up to expectations or succeeding expectations” Baum replied and then listened to when Pherein listed off Iah’s traits. Somehow he had a feeling it was going to be hard to find Iah since he knew of at least two others that possibly fit that description. Well hadn’t he wanted to do something adventurous? It would give him time to get used to the fact he was totally procrastinating on his school work. “Uh… well I’ll try my best to find him.”

Ah so he was struggling more with the change than he let on. Pherein kind of wanted to be his friend so she kept with her earlier assessment of not poking at him. Well not yet, and definitely not with the current topics. Instead she went to slightly blushing as baum raised his eyebrow at her description of iah. Pffft well she knew what Iah looked like and she had yet to fail in finding him. “Yeah I know it’s not the best description, but you are right in that we definitely aren’t going to find him here. He’s an enoch student like me so common room is the perfect place to start don’t you think” and with that she was pulling them both away from the table and out of the library ignoring the sudden indignant spluttering that Baum was currently giving her. It would definitely be fun, their adventure to find Iah so that they could sneak out of the school, and she was looking forward to seeing what other fun personality quirks Baum showed her along the way.

Baum looked at Pherein and shook his head. Well he had been right in the fact that they totally weren’t going to be doing their assignment and no matter how much he suddenly wanted to go against the norm for himself he did have to admit that pherein’s smile still worried him. He really, really hoped he didn’t end up in detention, although he would go for not being dragged around the school. What was with Kieran and Pherein dragging him along places? He hoped it wasn’t an indication of his future, but maybe, just maybe it was okay with him. He had wanted friends hadn’t he? They would definitely spice things up if nothing else and they hadn’t pranked him yet…. Ah well he wanted to go along with the flow, so going along with the flow was what he was going to do. Ah… this café better have the best drinks was all he could think to himself as they left the library.
