Jo's finger hovered over the 'send' button for the sixth time that week, his mind spinning as he debated weather or not four days was long enough time period between making a relationship change official and the first official date. The clay Litch had heard about this new restaurant from a girl in his Life Skills class who said it was super cute and had really good food and a nice romantic atmosphere. He would have asked Esrael sooner, but he didn't want to seem too anxious to start dating. He had more than enough money saved up to treat him at the semi-formal eatery, but was nervous about scaring Esrael off.
Joseth took a deep breath, re-read the message for the thousandth time, closed his eyes and pressed the send button. Once he heard the little 'woosh' from his phone that it had been sent, he fell back on his bed with his phone on his chest, waiting not-so-patiently for his reply. The message read:
Hey Rae, I was wondering if you wanted to go out to dinner Friday night after classes. I heard about this new semi-formal restaurant and I thought you might want to try it out with me. If you aren't busy, I'll meet you there around 6. I really hope you can make it!

To be honest, Rae was starting to get slightly worried. It had been a few days since he really talked to Jo. They were officially dating now...so they should be doing things like...holding hands...and---the fallen blushed at the thoughts that drifted through his mind. How was someone supposed to act in a relationship? Ughhh. He knew he was putting way too much thought into this, but still he just couldn't not think about it. What was the correct way to go about this? Should he ask Jo out on their first real date...or should he wait for Jo to ask him? Is there a set amount on time to wait before you ask someone out? There was way too many questions and Esrael was starting to freak out.
He was getting overwhelmed with everything when he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.Without hesitation he ripped it out of his pocket, it was a message from Jo! He opened the message and his blue eyes scanned over the message. A tiny giggle escaped his lips before he furiously typed away at the keyboard, telling Jo that he'd love to go and that he couldn't wait to see him. The fallen paused before typing a little '<3' at the end. The blush on his face grew as he fit the send button.
------------------------
It was finally Friday. The day he had been waiting for for what seemed liked years now. Their first date. Esrael rushed home after classes that day, he had to take a shower and still figure out what he was going to wear. After he was done with his shower, he stared at his closet, seriously though...what was he going to wear? He didn't want to look too formal, but at the same time he didn't want to look too casual.
After some serious consideration he decided to go with a nice pair of black slacks and a black with blue pinstripe buttondown shirt. Last but not least he made sure he had his wallet and then happily hurried out the door. He knew he was going to be early, but he felt like he needed to be there first.
When he arrived at the restaurant he took a deep breath and pushed the door open. He was greeted by the host who asked how many he was expecting, Esrael happily told her that it was just going to be two. Despite being pretty anti social he was so giddy that he really wanted to tell the girl that it was going to be a first date with his new boyfriend. He didn't. He was way too shy afterall. The host sat him in a secluded corner and lit the candle at the table before making her leave.
Rae childishly kicked his legs happily as he looked over the menu. He absolutely could not wait to see his boyfriend.

Joseth's week went speedily, especially with his date on his mind. When Friday came and his classes were over, Joseth could barely contain himself from his excitement. He went back to his dorm to take a shower and clean himself up before his date, styling his hair nicer than usual and picking out an outfit of grey slacks and a long-sleeved maroon button-down shirt which he rolled up the sleeves to his elbows and folded the collar nicely. A few butterflies rustled in his stomach as he made his way over to the restaurant.
As he approached the front doors, he realized that Rae was nowhere to be found outside of the restaurant. He never did specify exactly where to meet him, but he was only a few minutes early, so he decided to go in and grab a table for them. He approached the host table with a shy smile. "Hi there, I'm meeting someone. Have you seen a blue Fallen with darker blue hair and dappled wings?" he asked, and was quickly lead over to a secluded area where his boyfriend was sitting, studying a menu. The moment his eyes landed on Esrael, more butterflies came to life in his stomach. His boyfriend. Eating together at a nice place on their first date. And he looked so handsome, with his hair all nice and his pinstriped shirt that made his eyes seem more blue. He didn't realize the host had left him there staring at the Fallen, and blinked before further approaching the table.
"Hey, Rae." He greeted him, a warm smile spreading across his face as he reached the table. "You look really nice. I'm glad you could make it." he blushed, keeping his crimson eyes on his partners'.

This was so exciting, but at the same time so nerve wracking for him. What if Jo found out how boring he was? What if he said something stupid or what if he spilled his drink all over himself because he was so dang nervous?! Ughhh. Esrael set the menu down and leaned back into the seat, closing his eyes for a minute, trying desperately to make the nervousness go away. How was anyone supposed to even eat on a first date? His stomach was in knots and he honestly feared that if he ate anything...well he may not be able to keep it down. What a wonderful first date that would make. Still...for all his flaws...Joseth still liked him. Just that one thought put a smile on his face.
In his worried state he hadn't noticed that the litch boy was standing a few feet from the table. As he heard Jo's voice he immediately shot up from the chair, his wings clumsily smacking into the table and almsot knocking the lit candle over. The embarrassed blush on his cheeks grew a darker shade as he finally laid eyes on his date. How was this possible? Esrael didn't think there was any way that Jo could actually be more attractive...well he was dead wrong. The fallen swallowed hard before slowly pulling out Jo's chair for him. "Of course I c-could make it. I wouldn't have missed this for anything...even if the world was ending I'd still be here. J-Jo you look," His mind shouted at him, telling him that he needed to tell Jo he looked hot. "You look amazing." The butterflies were back, but this time they didn't seem as bad.
He sat back down, feeling like the luckiest boy in the world. He smiled innocently at his boyfriend, his eyes locked on the beautiful crimson color of his date. "Thank you so much for inviting me here, I was actually a little nervous when I hadn't heard from you. N-Not that I thought you were avoiding me, I was just...worried. That sounds bad. I didn't mean it to be bad." Open mouth, insert foot. Why was he just babbling on and on like that? "S-So have you had a chance to look at the menu yet? There's some really interesting dishes on here and so many of them sound so good. I don't know how I'm going to pick one." He laughed.

Joseth's eyes widened in alarm when he startled Rae, causing him to hit the table with his wings as he stood to greet him. The fallen's blush didn't go unnoticed, but Jo was more worried about the flustered look that was spread across his boyfriend's face. He gave Rae a reassuring smile before waiting from him to get back onto his chair to seat himself. He was really touched to hear that he wouldn't have missed their date for anything, causing a light blush to spread across his cheeks. The blush deepened at the compliment, tinting his ears a ruddy color.
Joseth listened to Esrael ramble a bit, his stomach dropping when he said he was nervous when he hadn't heard from him. He should have known that couples stayed in contact once they were official. He didn't want to seem too eager and scare him off, but he had done the opposite; he had worried his partner because of his distance. A frown pulled at the edges of his slightly parted lips until the blue boy backpedaled and said he didn't mean anything bad. He opened his mouth to apologize but Rae cut him off.
"No, I haven't seen the menu yet. I heard the food was really good though, the only bad thing is having to choose what to get." He gave his date another reassuring smile before picking up the menu and glancing through it. "What were you thinking of getting? Maybe we can both order something we both think sounds good and we can split it?" he suggested, setting his menu down so he could see his boyfriend.

He intently stared at the menu, he could feel Jo's gaze on him and he really didn't know what to do. He really should have researched first dates to see what one normally does. Do they talk? Do they stare lovingly at each other? He was so nervous, but why was he this nervous? He had known the litch for years, they had grown up together and all the other times they spent with each other he hadn't been nearly as nervous. Was it really just the label of 'dating' that made him feel this way? He glanced up from the menu and looked at Joseth, suddenly it clicked, there wasn't a reason to be nervous. Jo already knew who he was and some how still wanted to be with him.
The warm fuzzies came back and Esrael smiled as he set down his menu. "I like that idea a lot! I was thinking about going with the vegetable lasgana. The last time I got spaghetti I made a horrible mess and I...I don't want you to see that." He laughed shyly as the blush crept across his cheeks. The waiter seemingly came out of nowhere and almost startled the fallen when he asked if they needed any drinks. Rae shook his head, "No thank you, I'm good with just water." When the glass was refilled he took a big sip of it. Maybe he was still a little nervous after all.
There was no point in hiding it, from what he had read about relationships the best thing for a couple was good communication. He steeled himself and took a deep breath. "Jo, I just want to apologize if I'm acting weird or anything. I'm just--I never thought this day would actually come and I am beyond happy to be sitting across from you and that I can say you're my boyfriend. You are by far the most important person to me and I'm just so scared that you'll realize how much of a nervous and scared wreck I really am...and you won't want me anymore." There. He said it. He quickly picked up the menu and tried to hide behind it. "S-So what are you thinking about ordering? That parmesan alfredo sounds really good..." He tried his best to take focus away from what he had just blurted out.

Joseth returned Esrael's smile, happy that he agreed with his dinner suggestion. He was very excited about trying things he had never had before, and knew he would be visiting the restaurant again. Hopefully Rae would like it enough there to be able to take him back too. He met the fallen's shy laugh with a soft one of his own, his dark eyes twinkling. When the waiter approached the couple again, Jo offered him a simple, "Me too." He gave the menu another glance before deciding on the dish he wanted to share that night.
He put his menu down and was met with the last second of his boyfriend taking what seemed like a tense breath before he launched into his speech. His cheeks and his heart warmed at the first part of his confession, his softly questioning gaze melting into a loving smile before the word 'scared' met his pointed ears. A furrow appeared between his eyebrows as he processed the blue boy's words that spilled out of his mouth like a waterfall. He opened his mouth to interject but before he could say anything, Esrael hid himself behind his menu. Taking half a moment to think, Joseth acted slowly, knowing from experience that that was the best way to handle situations like this with his boyfriend.
The clay litch reached across the small booth and placed his hands over the blue boy's, gently lowering the menu. He locked his ruby gaze onto the feathered boy, gathering himself and trying to sound both calm and sincere. "Rae, you don't need to apologize, you have no reason to. You're incredibly important to me, and it makes me happy to see you happy, and to know that you want to be here with me. I was the one who asked you to be my boyfriend, and I knew that as soon as I asked you, I was signing up for all of you. All of your amazing hugs, all of your little laughs and smiles, and all of your anxieties and insecurities too. I was more worried about you accepting my baggage, knowing how broken I am..." he trailed off, his gaze dipping instinctively to his hands. He bit his lip for a moment, squeezing Rae's fingers to steady himself before continuing. "There is not a day that goes by that I don't want you, all of you. You're amazing, Rae. And I wouldn't wish any part of you away because every piece you're made up of is unique to you and makes you special. I wouldn't have it any other way." He squeezed his boyfriend's fingers and gave him the warmest smile that he could. The tall brown boy then pointed with one claw at the upside-down menu. "I'm fine with the lasagna, and I think I'll have the four cheese ravioli with pesto sauce. Does that sound good to you?" he asked his speckled companion, easing the mood.
