Location: Prypiat
Images:: x, x, x.
General debriefing: Commonly known amongst most Hunters as one of the largest Halloween-Human portal hotspots, a strange influx of Fear and Insanity has grabbed a hold of the location, especially underground. The area is now covered in a thick fog, and what few tourists make it through are rarely seen back. The entire area has been covered off by local authorities, though the fog radius and Insanity seems to be spreading...
* B class difficulty level (must have a team of three, at least one of them must be a Full Hunter. This is considered a DANGEROUS mission. )

MECHANICS

* MECHANICS: RP assembling a team, as necessary, before heading towards the Lighthouse portal to request a portal to Survey Mission AA. Once there, roll a 100-sided dice and match the roleplay to the results below, as well as any reactions. Players can continue rolling until any of the players roll an INSANITY ENCOUNTER, in which case the BATTLE PHASE begins. See below for battle phase mechanics.
1- 20: You can't see through the thick layer of fog. At some points you hear someone call you, whether or teammate or another voice entirely. At other points you see a shadow of someone, as you reach towards them they disappear entirely. You trip over something - a body rotting, thick dark blood still blossoming on the ground in crystal-like fragments. They are smiling with eyes wide open at you.
21 - 40: As you walk deeper, you hit an old, rusted ferris wheel. There are people hanging inside each pod, some half-draped out, others nestled in. Their bodies seem to be showing light signs of decay, unmoving. All of them are smiling, widely, perfect teeth showing.
41 - 60: You manage to navigate through the fog into a segment of thick concrete. The area is extremely dangerous and radiates high levels of Fear and Insanity. You hear a voice mocking you, and laughing at the same time, words nonsensical. For a second you feel as if someone is watching you from behind you, tugging at you. As you walk past the pavement you realize all the cracks on the sidewalk are shaped in a large, wrinkled grin.
61 - 80: You see something from the corner of your eyes, a greyed out version of yourself. They wave at you and smile, grin splitting their face....
81- 100: BOSS ENCOUNTER:
- As you continue walking down the sidewalk you hear a large crack, followed by another. A strange gas explodes from underneath, making you extremely dizzy, as you cough to figure out what is going on, fighting for air now. You have exposed your entire team to a hallucinogen, making everything more terrifying than ever as your vision swims and hops uncontrollably and your hearing becomes muted. Something creaks, groans, lurches underneath you, but is that your imagination?

- BOSS MECHANICS: This boss is a mob that has collective 100 HP. Every time you attack it (following the general battle rules), you TAKE 8 damage. AS you can't really see the boss, most of it will have to be dependent on what you can see, if anything at all, from strange faceless figures lurching, half-hopping towards you to the smiling dead coming back and swiping at you. Make sure to tally the boss's total HP (the damage you did to it) at the bottom of your post as well as your total HP and the damage you did that round. If the boss's HP hits 0, you have defeated it, and your team can now take the portal back.

* 3 mission reward points for completing this successfully

Melvin stood at the portal with a light backpack and a thicker coat under his hunter one, wondering if he should get a winter version if possible. He was glad that anyone was wanting to go on a mission with him as he couldn't stand being home longer than it took to drop off his gear from diving, wash up and get ready. Even better was that it was two people he knew.

His hair was still slightly damp as he read over the mission briefing, feeling lent up and anxious.

Al approached the portal carrying a bigger backpack than Melvin. Noah always made sure Al went places prepared. He barely felt it though, he was wearing a recently purchased suede leather coat with plush thick lining over his hunter coat, a knit beanie, and his usual red scarf wrapped loosely about his face and neck.

As shitty as he felt lately, this was another distraction and one he felt he sorely needed.

One more mission before he got shipped off to that base in the south. Dawson had growled a sigh when he realized it meant not getting any time, or barely any, to go see America before he left, but missions meant duty meant priority or getting written up. Jesus, though.

He wiped at his face as he ascended the steps into the lighthouse and sighed to himself. Like Melvin and Al, he was dressed for the weather: thick fur-trimmed coat, thick scarf, heavy duty boots, gloves, his own backpack, and a runic dagger at his belt for backup. Even the usual trucker cap was traded in for something warmer, though forcing his shaggy hair into it had been something else.

Despite his own mood, Dawson put on a smile when he saw the pair and saluted them as he approached. "Gentlemen! Ain' we all lookin' comfy," he said with pep. "Almost makes me wanna pop out the smores. Maybe after we clear this all up."

Melvin nodded to the pair. "Glad you guys were up for a mission on such short notice. This is considered a class B mission so we'll need to be on our toes. I brought some runic stones for both of you."

He handed them one each. "They'll give your runic weapon a charge if we need to fight." He had brought his own Runic daggers.

Adjusting his scarf, he pocketed his phone. "The mission says there is a lot of fog so everyone stay close."

He stepped through the portal.

Fog was an understatement. The place was thick with Feat and insanity that he felt as if it was hard to breathe. "They weren't joking about this place being overrun. It's like inhaling exhaust fumes here."

And it made his stomach twist in knowing what bad things came from this much fog.

When he started to walk, looking to see the others were close, he could start to hear something other than the sound of the concrete under his boots. It was the whispering. It was snickering. It was like someone very amused he would even show up. Him of all people. The last person who should be on a mission.

He gritted his teeth. "I hate this kind of fog."

He had encountered enough times with voices but they always bothered him how close they sounded to other people. Of loved ones or in this case, past friends.

As he minded his step, he jerked back a moment as a massive crack that split the ground smiled back. He - hopped over. "Watch your step."

Al inspected his runic stone curiously before pocketing it. He felt too embarrassed to point out that he never earned any so decided not to say anything at all about it.
"Fog?" He parroted. "Why is it always fog man? Couldn't we have picked a nice sunny beach mission instead?"

He entered the portal and emerged on the other side. He tugged his scarf up to protect his face from the biting cold but even worse was... the fog was indeed an understatement. He could hardly see. Thank ******** for Melvin's loud taste in colors; orange and yellow made following easier but not perfect. The fog so thick it was like standing in billowing smoke, only it was cold, so cold.

Voices, laughter, why did it always have to be this way? He distantly wondered. He came here to not think about the crushing doubt and feeling of loss... but now he feels it ten fold with judging and mocking laughter behind it. Only finally returning focus at Melvin's voice, clearly not the voice of the fog but the one directly ahead. "Okay," he stopped just in time to feel something grab and hold back. He thought. He must have imagined it. He looked back and found the cracks opening in the ground. He made sure to avoid them.

"I don't think you could have picked a creepier mission, Melvin. Nothing about this place is normal."

"Heyheyhey, great minds think alike!" With a grin, Dawson pulled out his own runestone, waving off Melvin's offer before pocketing it once more. "Thanks, though, dude. Ain' a bad idea t'carry more 'an one just in case."

But that wasn't going to happen because it was going to be just fine.

Even stepping into the utterly fume-covered area, he tried to keep an upbeat attitude. Nothing could go worse than his last external mission, right? As he took up the rear of their party, Dawson pulled his scarf over his mouth out of instinct. It didn't really stop the nauseating feeling of Fear and Insanity mixing in the air like that, but he liked to think it gave him a degree of protection nonetheless. It didn't stop the laughter and conniving insults from echoing about, however.

Syntyche was summoned just in case, a pair of faintly orange eyes in the cold, almost monochromatic landscape. It felt a little too much like they were literally being surrounded, and by more than just the eerie fog.

"Eh, they all like this," he said to Al, trying to lighten the mood. "All in the mind n' s**t. Long's we all stick t'gether, we'll be alright."

Heeding Melvin's warning, Dawson navigated the creepy grins for holes in the cement, frowning as he got a little deja vu from previous missions. "They ever figure out why this s**t's happenin'?" he asked.

"They are all creepy, Al. It's why the not creepy missions aren't missions. They are leave times used to go to Disney or Paris." He called back, pausing to jump over a crack that had started to smirk up at him from the ground.

"If this was a holiday, there wouldn't be need for anyone to take it on. We'd be waiting in line. Then again, if Insanity was in Disney, I think it would be WAY creepier than this. We're just getting a few Cheshire smiles and Insanity exhaust right now."

"They probably have loads of papers on the entire cause and effect of Insanity, but I doubt they would share too much with us or it could be easily explained. If they knew a lot more, maybe they would know how to give us some sort of temporary serum to be immune to its effects or even gas bombs to throw into this volatile mess."

Crack

Melvin stopped, looking about into the mass of fog.

Crack crack CRACK crackk

"What the hell is that?"

The ground started to move and shake, and he knelt down low to the ground.

"Watch yourself!" He called out, moving to them both as the ground rippled and shook as splitting asphalt erupted around them. Billowing towers of gas rose up like massive tea kettle spouts and the heavy thick gas rushed around him. Coughing, he pressed his scarf to his mouth, eyes watering as he looked around. His chest stung with it and his head sudden swam as if a sudden heat wave came over him, making him feel both sick and nauseous. The laughter got louder and he saw eyes flickering from the thickening fog.

He doubted it was Mickey and Minnie.

Al was trying to make a joke but instead he got lectures. He was with the worst crowd for this clearly and huffed an exaggerated sigh for their troubles and rolled his eyes. "You guys need to lighten up," though clearly Dawson at least made an attempt. It went clear over Melvin's head however.

CRacK.

The ground moved and Melvin called out. Thick black smoke billowed all around them. It was suffocating. He backed up and stopped. Gaping cracks opened up all around them, one formed directly behind him. He moved around it. He had to be careful. "s**t," he called out and summoned Nuru to fight at his side. Violet runes and red eyes pierced the darkness but only barely. The many teeming eyes of something drowned out Nuru's light.

"s**t s**t s**t," Al repeated as she tried not to panic. It had been a very very long time since he faced anything and he suddenly felt so very clueless in the moment.

Use meh, Nuru reminded calmly with a soft throaty growl. Let meh protect ya.

He swung the staff at the encroaching shadows, causing them to shift and reform before they lunged forth causing him to stagger backwards again. The ground felt as though it moved again, earth buckling and rippling beneath his feet like massive scales made of stone, being flexed and twisted by the muscles of a massive hidden creature. He felt sick.

"Disney turned creepy? Eugh. I already seen enough Five Nights at Freddy's s**t t'know how that'd go," Dawson commented with a shudder. Fortunately for them, they didn't have to worry about a household name getting tainted; unfortunately for them, they were the targets instead.

Before he could crack a joke to follow after Al's suggestion (probably something along the lines of yer mist-taken, I'm downright s'Happy as a dwarf in Snow White), the ground beneath them beat him to the punchline and split open. Since his shield was already out, Syn managed to block the initial blast of nauseating gas, but Dawson was coughing and backing off soon enough. Quickly wiping at his eyes, he pulled his scarf up as Melvin did and paled as he saw the shambling figures in the miasma surrounding them.

Remembering his dagger, he pulled it out and thrust it into the ground, but again the shield that was produced was weak. He got flashbacks of his very first external mission, where someone had nearly died on his watch, and broke into a sweat. Not again.

"G-Goddamn thing ********' farted on us," he wheezed out nevertheless. "Rude."

It was clear whatever it was was a mass of many. Or maybe it was something that was using Insanity fog to it's advantage. Whatever it was, he knew what he was. He could see the distant blue lights hovering, and the laughter was one he heard on warm days, or softly in midnight pillow talks. Light, but far more maniacal now than it had been.

In the white, he could see flowing dresses. Black hair.

Blue eyes.

And they called.

He aimed Saliva as she formed in his hands. There were too many of HER to be real, yet he felt the very icy chill of them inside in the softest parts of his heart.

"Stay close! I can't tell what the hell this thing or THINGS is!"

Frantic now and hardly able to hear over the chaotic shriek of voices that rang through the air. He could barely hear Melvin. He was sure it was Melvin. He couldn't make out what he said, but he decided to follow it anyway. The ground seemed to heave and shift under his footsteps like flesh cringing at the contact and very aware of his presence. He felt like an insect crawling on a massive behemoth. No stable footing to be found. Smoke belching forth with each step to consume his form and with it came fresh apparitions of horror reaching out for him.

He swung Nuru but failed to make contact as they reached out and clawed at him trying to stop him. He stopped, he could swear something had him by the ankle. He could feel his heart thumping heavily in his chest. He could hear the heavy thudding of two more heart beats, neither one was his. He could taste each thump in his throat and it choked him. This just wasn't as fun as he thought it'd be.

Bound by the barrier of the shield, at least for now, Dawson's expression tightened. Among the voices screeching and cackling were familiar ones. Ghostly ones, both literally and figuratively. He felt those beads of sweat from before creep down his neck as he brought his shield up and deflected a blow meant for Melvin.

"Nasty ******** is what," he grumbled as he yanked the dagger out and let it occupy the same pocket as his uruz, hoping it'd charge up fast. "Al! Buddy, ya heard him?" he yelled over the chaos. "Don' wander! These things're jus' tryna get in our heads!"

He tried to focus, holding Saliva out as each flickering pair of lips parted, smiling wide at him from the fog as they reached out, some hands pale blue....and others blackish red.

And yet that maniacal warped voice was sweet still.

"Not her. not her.not her.not her." He repeated over and over as he winced through the smoke that stung inside and his vision blurred as he looked down the barrel at the scope to shoot into the fray over once again, hearing laughing taunts despite hitting something.

He wasn't hurting HER. She was gone.

He could hear Dawson now. He was going the right way. Right? He was close but then the ground shifted again - another billow of smoke burned his eyes and throat. He couldn't see.

Trust meh. Nuru tried to call through the stifling darkness to his hunter. You are fine, we can do dis. It brought Al comfort to know he wasn't alone despite the rising cacophony that drowned out all traces of his companions. He could not find them yet. He swung instead as hard as he could.

Smoke being flung back and ankle now freed. He tried to continue in the direction he was headed before.

Ah can smell dem. Nuru assured Al, although he couldn't really.
