Name: Akeldama - Meaning Field of Blood
Nickname: Akel
Stage: Youngling
Race: Elarian
Gender: Female
3 Base Traits: Vain - This girl is very proud of her looks despite being different from her adopted Alk mother and often views her appearance as being far more attractive than any Alkidike; if only because she's biased. Something about that red hair. She also feels that she and her fellow sisters are the better children of the earth. After all, they are the future.
Protective - She loves her fellow Elarians and will protect them from anything, including any Alkidike that poses a threat. She also protects Elzira, her mother tree, believing that none of the yellow skinned women who are from the main land and are weak in their thoughts should ask her for anything.
Snobby - Due to the fact that she was one of the early Elarian's to be brought into the world, within the first generation, she feels more than entitled. Even if she came after the Alks, after the earthlings, she believes that the earth was working toward the perfect race and hers is it. She is also not entirely fond of the Matron despite sharing the extremist views.
Personality: Akeldama likes to preen. Since she has been raised in an environment that told her she was the future and that she is precious, as well as beautiful, she often times feels as though she is superior to many other races. With constant praise Akel views herself and her sister Elarian’s as the best race on earth. It is what all of Tendaji has been working toward.
Her protective nature is almost always seen when she is around her sisters. She makes sure they have what they need and are well cherished. If she sees one being scolded too much she intervenes with attitude. Even though she knows a soft nature won’t create a tough fighter she always seems to bristle a little when excessive action is used. I.E. intense training and scolding to push the sisters harder. Akel prefers encouragement and praise to be used on the Elarians. Another time her protectiveness is seen is when it comes to all things Elzira. She worships the New Mother and wants only the best for her.
Due to her extremist upbringing she does have a small anger issue. Akel tends to get upset over small things pretty quickly. If she thinks or feels that anyone is looking down on her then she puffs up her chest and brings the attitude in full force. She very much dislikes the idea that she and her sisters would be viewed as weak. As a physical outlet for her anger she likes to train with her spear, using various plants and animals as targets. Her favorite, though, is a large boulder that she has put several deep scars into.
Her relationships with the yellow skinned ones is difficult to nail down as it varies from one to the other. For instance, Akel often has conflicting opinions of the current Matron of the Alkidikes. While she does share in some of the views and respects the Matron for what she is, she will sometimes question the reasoning as to why the matron takes such actions, like refusing to take them back their rightful home. Akel thinks that the Matron is in need of stronger minded advisors, namely Akel's Alk mother. Other Alkidike may be alright with her so long as they don’t show weakness or flaws of their own and revere Elzira with the utmost respect. Then there are some who are more accepting of tainted blood, like the mainlanders, and mixed relations so long as they turn to their faith and it is these cousins she has a problem with. It is these yellow skinned beings that she sees as low as earthlings and wants nothing to do with them.
These views were brought to her attention by her Alk mother and so heard through the grapevine.
When it comes to Elzira, her mother tree, she is the best daughter. Akel makes sure the tree is well tended to by constantly visiting the roots when she isn't training. She even makes it her mission to look in on any new blooms that her Mother produces. Though this only includes asking the mystics how they are doing. Because she takes such a personal interest in Elzira and her well being she tends to dislike normal Alkidikes near her. Her New Mother is still not strong enough to support mass amounts of blooms and she doesn't want the Alks to overwhelm her with their pleas for children. While Akeldama would love to see more of her own sisters about, she is unsure if she wants them to go to Alkidike hands if they are weak minded.
Description: Akel has a deep shade of red hair, which is where her name originates from since it reminded her Alkidike mother of blood. Her hair is also somewhat more curly than most so it gives her dreads a charming twisted look. Her markings consist lines under her eyes just along the cheekbone as well as a symbolic marking in the center of her forehead. Akeldama also has dots and loops/swirls along her body, legs, and arms. Please use this as a ref. <-- I'd like her to be as close to that as possible. Mostly the hair, earrings, and most markings. ((Feel free to add more.)) <3
Clothing: As she grows Akel will be less concerned with her clothes then she will be about her training and physique. So her clothing will be scarce and a mix of tight and loose fitting fabrics.
Accessories: Large round, wooden earrings.
History: As one of the earliest Elarian babies to be bloomed from the new mother tree Akel was taken in by one of her yellow skinned cousins, the Alkidike, to be raised. The woman that she ended up living with had some of the more extreme views in the group of Alks that were chased off the mainland. This influenced Akeldama in her early childhood.
Not only did it give her some what of a superiority complex but it also made her want to take back what had been taken. Often times she'd play pretend that she was an avenging Elarian and taking things over.
The older Alkidike that took her in would often regale stories to her of Aisha, the original mother tree, and of a land where only those from her bosom were allowed to survive. One of Akel's favorite stories that was often told to her was the war against the Obans. Her adoptive mother had been a part of the bloodshed, cutting down the dirty earthlings where she could.
She was allowed to be the typical little girl as well. Akel played and ran around under the watchful eye of her "mother." Though, like the others, she wasn't allowed to leave the small village that had been formed around Elzira. She did however make a best friend out of one of the other Elarian children; Tos.
Growing up the two were practically inseparable. Though the two shared a love hate relationship that often times resulted in them being competitive with one another they never let someone or something else hurt the other. Akel always seemed to be the preening one of the two, worried about her hair or dirt being on her, while Tos was more of the ruffian. The two couldn't be more different and yet they made the best of friends.
Akel also came to be rather fond of the original three of her race. Her Alk mother told her that those three had been a complete surprise to the rest of them and many had vied for the chance to be their mothers. Because they were quite literally the first blooms to bud on Elzira, Akeldama looks up to them.
Note: Most of her personality traits are for when she is older. As a youngling she will be the typical spoiled brat that needs to learn about the world.

Just a note: she's not one of the first to be brought in: several other batches of blossoms have already been born so not sure if that can be called "one of the first" right now. Might want to relook at that and edit the snobby personality.
Why does she think she is better? She's raised in a tribe that mostly cares for her; they might love her but they aren't saying she is better than them... that is for sure! Extremists are very proud and not one to say they are lesser than others. She's one of the few and all the Alkidikes are much older and stronger than her so why does she think she is better then them? There isn't a strong elaria to really show "my people are better than them" since none of them are old enough (Naq just got there but even then she's still a prentice and weak compared to the Amazons and warriors and blades.)
Why does she have an issue with "Then there are some who are more accepting of tainted blood and mixed relations so long as they turn to their faith and it is these cousins she has a problem with. It is these yellow skinned beings that she sees as low as earthlings and wants nothing to do with them."
Has she seen this? I mean the extremists are very much against earthlings with the exception of a few that don't care (or Lumi who is willing to accept earthlings if they worship her goddess). So where would she learn of this if she has not yet met Lumi?
(not a big fan of you using that ref but you did get permission I have been told: I would prefer you use non official tendaji lines for future refs please! It is highly restrictive to the artists and looks like an adopt instead of a quest.)
Her history is a little bare and could use some working on! How did her mother raise her? How did she instill such arrogance in her daughter? Again, she is not one of the earliest blooms: more have come and she's like one of 10 PCs right now and even more NPC ones since the tree hasn't stopped producing a few blooms when it can. So there are older elaria to interact with. How does she interact with them? Is she jealous of the original 3? View them as potential leaders?
On the whole I rather like her <3

Whoops. I changed that from First to Early. Since there aren't very many yet. o wo She thinks she's better because she was told that she and her sisters are the future. It was in the event info when I made her pro the first time. Did that change? D: I had it be that her Alk mother is the one that told her about the different views of the Alkidikes that live with them. So it's all hearsay but still influences her. I know, and I'm sorry. I had her drawn up before I was no longer staff but never got a chance to use her. I really liked her design though so I asked if I could use it as a ref. She is still considered one of the few earlier blooms. Since there isn't enough to balance out the Alk to Elaria ratio. >>; Akel likes the original 3. o wo She also looks up to them.

Quote: Akel has a deep shade of red hair, which is where her name originates from since it reminded the Matron of blood. Was Akel not plead for? It's my understanding that normally, blooms that are plead for will be named by the mother(s) that plead for the child, so I'm wondering why her name is based on something the Matron thought/given to her by the Matron instead.

Heras Box No she was a bloom that Elzira produced without being asked for it. Kana has said that even blooms not plead for are given names by the woman/women who take them in (just fyi). Additionally, even though it happens, it's fairly rare that the mother trees produce blooms without them being plead for, and Elzira just did so with the first three. After that, I would think that there would be plenty of extremists actually asking for and wanting daughters of their own, so it seems a little odd to me that at that point, Elzira would make even more blooms without them being asked for (added to the fact that she is still a young tree, too). Is there any particular reason you have in mind for Akel not being plead for (out of curiosity)? Also, multiple times in here, alks are referred to as "weak minded," "lowly," or otherwise - but when you get to talking about the woman who raised her, it sounds like she gave Akel a good childhood and, skewed views aside, did her best raising her. Other than being told she's the future (as most children are anyway), is there anything that happened to instill so much distrust towards the alkidikes that are her whole world so far (other than her sisters and the tree) and have been responsible for raising her and taking care of her?

Heras Box She thinks she's better because she was told that she and her sisters are the future. It was in the event info when I made her pro the first time. Did that change? D: It looks like you might have misread the information given. From the Event These children are being brought up as the Alkidike, with strong elitist values from their extremist mothers. [Note: These are the children of the Alkidike Extremists. They are being raised with stories of how superior they are to outsiders and are learning to loathe them from their mothers. This will reflect in the character's personality and outlook on life.]From the Species Page Born to Alkidike mothers, the Elaria have stuck true to their roots and have grown knowing the ways of the Alkidike. Proud of their heritage, they choose to change nothing and continue to be the Cousins of their original race, holding their ideals and beliefs strong and training under the Alkidike to become blades and warriors. From the FAQ What is the current developmental environment for the Elaria on Yael? The Elaria are surrounded by a family of sisters, and are constantly being educated like any Alkidike youngling would. They are trained like a sister, and are being taught the faith of the Alkidikes and the history. There is little room for them to explore or learn otherwise, and most stories of outsiders are reflected in the eyes of the sisters. Elaria, being raised in this environment, develop with the understanding that the Alkidikes are their cousins and mothers, and see little difference between the two outside of their skin. Why would a child who has been raised knowing only what the Alkidike extremists have told her and only being treated with their love and care and motherly instincts have turned away from the alks? Why would she think they were lowly when they raised her as their own children? Heras Box No she was a bloom that Elzira produced without being asked for it. Even those who were not pled for are given to mothers to raise and it is always them who pick the names for their daughters. The mystics don't usually assign names to anyone. Is there a reason that she would be so special that the Matron would step in and choose to name her herself when she didn't even choose the names for the original three? Heras Box When it comes to Elzira, her mother tree, she is the best daughter. Akel makes sure the tree is well tended to. She even makes it her mission to look in on any new blooms that her Mother produces. Unfortunately the mystic's job is to tend to lotuses and blooms, so it would be far fetched and out of her place within the culture for her to take it upon herself to do so. Is there a reason why the mystics would let her in to take over what is a coveted part of their job?

Mhm, I did misread. My bad~ I did mention that her views are influenced by her Alk mother. Akel isn't anti-Alk. She's Anti-tolerant Alks. (( For example; Lumikani. She doesn't know who Lumi is though. )) Just like her Alk mother is. She is being/was raised in a more extreme extremist home. Akel and her Alk mother don't like the mainlander Alkidikes. And aren't fond of any extremist alk who is more on the soft end. --------- I originally just wanted it to be the Matron that gave Akel her name and that was why she shortened it. Since she doesn't care too much for the old woman she didn't want to use the full name that was given to her. Though I guess that can be changed since it's a big deal. ------- Oh! No I didn't mean that she took care of the blooms. Like physically, or anything. Just that she would look in and ask the mystics how the new blooms were doing.

Can you edit her application to reflect these changes then? I can't really move forward with the critique when all indicators point to her hating all alks including the ones who raised her. (And the part about her name would need to be changed as well since it's not believable within Tendjai.)

Hey Heras,
I think I can chime in here a bit on what staff are looking to see...basically, we want to really know why she is so against the matron. If you could provide a solid reason to why this has happened, beyond just a lack of belief in the views.
For example, there are a few Alks currently who are upset with the matron for taking them away from Chibale, or taking a seed from Aisha. Both of these arguments might not work with your story, because obviously her mother embraced the Elaria if she accepted a bloom. But we want to see some real thought into why she differs so much from others.
If her parent influences her so much, and her parent put 100% of her faith in the cause of the Matron, why would she turn up this way? It just is too contrasting to seem realistic based on her current history and the Elaria setting.
As I am sure you can see, we put a lot of thought into accepting Elaria based on their current, very special situation. So to see an Elaria who refuses the will of the Matron, who is basically the religious leader, the whole point the group is there, and the one nearly everyone has faith in, makes us want to know very specifically as to why.
I know we are asking a lot, but with you picking such a specific plot point for the character that conflicts with the current Elaria, we are looking to get a bit more feedback and thought from your side! Maybe this is something you can add to her history, a point where she transitions into this opinion of the matron, or a plot direction where she builds to this lack of faith?
I just think a little more clarity on that view will really help move the crit along biggrin

Looks like the edits addressed my questions! I like how you made Ake want Ake's mother to become one of the advisers to the Matron(I get a feeling of "My mother should be in charge.. not her sorta arrogance from it <3 ) and gives a reason for her dislike of matorn. (the whole "why didn't she go back and conquer? Why just sit here and do no thing? Which to me shows she thinks the Matron is not quite competent.)
I don't see any issues left from my view (not sure on others though)

How does she feel about Aselia? She dislikes the Matron, but Aselia also supported the Matron and was the cause of the invasion of Sauti. Will Tos be an NPC for Akeldama, or is she eventually going to be a playable character? Will she play a large role in Akeldama's plots?

Will Tos be an NPC for Akeldama, or is she eventually going to be a playable character? Will she play a large role in Akeldama's plots? Since Silv hasn't been on and I'm not sure if Aselia will make an appearance I didn't add it in. But, her mother would tell her that the young mystic has great potential if she can just get stronger advice. As for Tos. Well, the concept for her came from Lire, so she may become a playable character. Whether she does or not is up to her. Still, she will play some part in Akel's development. Mostly to do with friendships.

Aselia (from her last appearance) supports and agrees with the Matron, basically seconding everything she does and agreeing with her actions and reasoning. If Akeldama doesn't agree with the Matron, putting them at odds, why is Aselia different? What is it that makes her have potential when she's following in the Matron's footsteps?
