I know there is few of these around, but they're only for specific topics, so why not have a general book discussion to talk about the love of books.
So we did some spring cleaning in our closets today, and my mom unpacked her books that sat in a box in her closet since we moved. I'm eager to dig in and reread them again. Nothing beats a box of crime thrillers heart
AND some of my favorite authors have tons of books out that I desperately need to catch up on. UG!

So what do you guys prefer, paperback or hardcover?

Format is irrelevant to me. Paperback is cheaper, and thats the only reason most of mine are paperbacks. But even ebooks, I'll read those.
Most of mine are still in boxes. I have probably about 350 physical books, and maybe a two dozen ebooks. And that's not including my comic collection.

I much prefer paperback books, they're so much easier to handle, as well as generally being cheaper.
I'm not much of an ebook fan, mind you.

I still love and prefer my paperbacks, because they require no battery, can be looked at on the shelves when I'm wondering what to read or what to teach in my future classes (which really is easier for me) and can be shared with other people. I also just like holding the thing. However, I'm getting used to the practicality of the e-readers. Like reading in the dark, carrying books around that would be far too heavy to have in the metro, having multiple books on hand for longer trips and finding books that are not available in my local bookstore. In fact, for stand-alone novels written in English, I'll probably buy them all on my ebook now.

I do find the convenience of eBooks outweighs my initial reservations regarding them. Honestly, I will always love a good, solid book in my hands, but when the situation won't allow for that, an eBook is an equal substitute.
My phone, which is what I read on mostly, has about 8 gigs of internal storage. Which is bigger, 8 gig of music or 8 gig of books? (And by bigger, I mean which can you get more of stored in the memory, and the answer is eBooks.)
I will say, however, that the battery thing is why print books will never go out of fashion completely. You don't need power, you don't need to find an outlet periodically, you just have to be able to see and read.

I don't have a preference between hardback and paper. However, if I have one of a series, the entire series must be in the same binding. I really don't enjoy kindle or other forms of tech-readers. I prefer to hold the book, smell the pages, etc.
I own hundreds of books. I have two large (4'x5') shelves, and about 6 large totes filled with the books that don't fit on my shelves. My husband keeps threatening to get rid of them all, but I just can't part with them lol

I have the problem of owning more books than I have shelves for as well. My partner, in contrast, doesn't really care. At least I'm not an alcoholic or a drug addict, and I have something to show for the money I spend. LMAO.
