General Information
The portal opens up into an observation room, and down the stairs, an odd chamber for something like hunter training. At the center of a piranha-filled pool stands a solid stone table and several chairs. The Life Arena was built underneath the demolitions and ballistics testing areas, and the chamber rumbles with the occasional explosions above. Pinpoint red lasers sweep across the room regularly, as if hidden snipers are searching for a nice target. In the center of the table sits a wooden tower, made up of smaller wooden blocks. Yes. That's right. The Life Hunters prefer to train via Jenga.

Note: Distraction techniques and Yo Momma jokes are considered viable weapons when playing competitively.

If you fail: you have knocked down the tower! A small dart hits the back of your neck. You come to several hours later, and hope Dr. H didn't do anything to your body while you were unconscious. When you look into the mirror...

If you win: you have reached 50 points! You get a sharpie marker to do with as you please. peen points go to those with the highest scores.

Group Play
Playing in a group on any course means certain things can be shifted to make it a better experience for multiple people without holding anyone back.
An approved group play alteration for the life arena goes as follows:
When someone knocks the tower down, they are shot with a weaker dart. They will wake up 5 minutes later, the game can be reset back to the point before it fell by placing their hands on the table and saying the word, constructum. This allows them to start again where they left off instead of the beginning. They can take up to three of these darts before passing out for an hour, the game will not reset for them and they will need to try again from the beginning.


    Mechanics
    - by carefully removing pieces of the tower, you earn points and advance to the next round. As the rounds continue, the odds grow steadily against you. Rolling a 1 at any point means you have knocked down the tower. Please do enjoy your mystery dart. Anything after reaching 50 points is purely for peen.

    - you may roll pieces individually (suggested for group play) or in batches of 5 (basically, a full round.)

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Life Hunters train for precise hand eye coordination and exceptional judgement, thus they have a slightly lower chance of knocking down the tower.

Melody was on eggshells as she entered the room. It felt like sound advice; get some "runic weapons" to make up for any shortcomings regarding herself and the handling of her weapon. She was not entirely sure just what a runic weapon was and for this she was rather pleased that Lawr had agreed to come and help her.

Her heels clacked across the stone as she made her way down the steps. She noted that the small island of floor appeared to be surrounded by water. She walked over to the table and took a seat. She patiently waited for Lawr to join her, casting wary glances as something red caught her eye from time to time. It was then she noticed something, or rather somethings were moving in the water.

It looked like this was not going to be a normal game of Jenga.

Lawrence had never gotten round to playing Jenga before, he had heard too many horror stories about it and was concerned about being unconscious at any point around almost any other hunter, especially when it seemed that being knocked out was something which happened very frequently.

He greeted Melody with a very polite bow before seating himself opposite the tower. "I hope you will forgive my pace, one hand and so on."

And then, taking his turn and with a surgeon's steadiness he extracted five of the blocks from strategic points on the tower.

Melody politely watched in dead silence as Lawr carefully removed all of his pieces. Smiling once it seemed safe to do so. "You are a lot more skilled than you give yourself credit for."

She looked at the tower, already poked full of expertly placed holes and nervously began removing several more blocks when suddenly the loud tumble of wood on stone caused her heart to sink. Already she screwed up, how embarrassing. She opened her mouth, about to stutter an apology for making such a mess when she suddenly face planted instead, a dart sticking out of one of her exposed shoulders. The red laser quickly moved away and vanished somewhere in the outer edges of the floor.

"Oh I doubt that." he said with a smile. He gave himself quite a lot of credit.

He smiled in a consoling sort of manner when the tower fell and only raised a brow as the huntress went face down in the blocks soon after, reaching over to experimentally prod her to see if she was dead. She wasn't dead, so that was fortunate, he couldn't be bothered explaining the death of someone else on his time.

He just waited for her to wake back up and reset the tower. He then removed even more irritatingly placed blocks with that same careful patience.

"Welcome back" he said.

Melody felt a little dizzy when she woke up again. She had to brace herself and carefully groom her hair back in place through Lawr's turn so that as it became her turn again, she would be primed and ready. She inspected the tower he'd left her with... then carefully picked out 4 more blocks. She flinched almost expectantly after the last before looking at Lawr.

She looked confused, but didn't ask.

Lawrence smiled at the flinch. "It is rather good at teaching you to dread failure isn't it? Pavlovian conditioning with the help of a little Jenga."

He removed 5 move blocks and his smile broadened a little more brightly at Melody.

"That... that was the game?" She asked under her breath before looking around nervously. She turned her attention back to the tower which seemed to be mocking her at this point. It looked as though someone took a huge bite out of it and it was even starting to lean to one side just for her. She carefully extracted 5 more pieces safely and then looked at Lawr.

She smiled with relief, "You are really good at this though. It is almost unfair."

"I'll go easier on you then" he said with that same infuriating smile.

There weren't many blocks he could take away at this point without unsteadying the whole thing, but he only needed the one to win the amount of points required. He got one without trouble, and heartened by the success went on to see how many more he could get out of it.

He managed to hit 70 points total before the tower fell and he sighed, taking the dart with dignity, already resting on the table like a cat when it knocked him out. He woke up with a stretch and reset the tower for Melody.

"I am glad you are not a handsy sort of individual." he laughed. "Though I suppose I would not mind, if it was you."

Melody watched Lawr patiently as he slept. He seemed unusually comfortable for someone who just got shot at with something. But he was an unusual individual.

"Oh.. oh my," she blushed rather vividly at his comment. "You are quite the charmer." She quickly extracted another piece but was too flustered to concentrate and as she reached for the second - the entire thing crumbled. "Oh gosh, you distracted me!" Her final words as she took the second dart with her name on it, this time to the upper back. She curled up a little more dignified now that she was well aware of what happened to those that toppled the tower.

Lawr propped his chin on a hand. "Charmer? I've never been called that before. Only honest. And I'd say it is honest."

He laughed at the tower fell. "I regret nothing at all." he said and patiently watched her sleep, trying to ignore how easy it would be to get a grip around her neck even as he did so.

Melody woke with a delicate stretch and a stifled yawn. At least these little 5 minute naps were surprisingly refreshing. She looked at Lawr, a little surprised he stuck around even after beating the game. "Oh hello," she carefully concealed another yawn and then moved her gaze to the tower, which had already been reset. "Honesty is a wonderful virtue to have," she noted from before. She made sure not to look at him this time though as she carefully extracted 4 more blocks from the tower. She sighed with relief as it still stood. "I bet people can trust you with all sorts of secrets."

"Yes indeed." he said. "Many people confide in me for all sorts of things. I love to help people, its practically in my blood." He watched her play with interest. "You are rather good at this you know, you have a sureness in your movements which will stand you in good stead."

Melody was feeling quite confident with his words to back her up and reached for her final piece and - disaster. It crumbled before her eyes. She was so close. With that a dart shot across the room and hit her, sending her into a deep sleep. This time far deeper than before, she wouldn't be awake again for approximately an hour.

Most people might have just left since they had finished their task, but Lawrence instead stuck around, sitting patiently waiting on Melody to wake when she didn't, sitting her back up in her chair and tidying her up neatly, propping her back whenever she slumped unattractively or other things people naturally did during sleep.

When she finally woke up he'd still be sitting opposite her, smiling with that same polite keenness.

"You were out for a while." he said, gesturing at the table. "You should play on."
