Matilda was beyond excited. Today was the day she was going to go pick out textiles and patterns to start her very first collection! She had had a moment with her mom, and found it hard to tell her that she was growing out of her fru-fru frills and lace style of high-end fashion. She was so worried that her mother would be sad, and that she was losing her little dress up doll, but her mother welcomed the confession with wide, accepting arms and vowed to help her create her own collection. It was especially fun people watching with her pastel chimera mother on the academy campus, pointing out styles and clothing choices and colors that caught her eye. The little winged hybrid knew that she liked more casual clothes, and had a certain affinity for sweaters and chunky knitted things. She knew she wasn't going to let go of skirts too soon, but just make them lose their cupcake volume and frills. She was also looking forward to adding more pants into her wardrobe. The mother daughter pair took the fabric district by storm, each loaded to the chin with different comfy warm-colored textiles. Lydia surprised Tilly with her very own sewing machine, which had been her mother's first way back when. Matilda wanted to do everything herself, from the patterns to the cutting and sewing and even the measuring. They weren't perfect, and Tilly pretended not to notice her mother sneaking in to her sewing room to make little alterations, but she was beyond pleased with her new wardrobe, exclusively for her.
