Evalia strolled into the coffee shop, a heavy book-bag slung over one excoriatingly thin shoulder. She was dressed up in her warmest lacy outfit. Well... everything she owned was covered in lace and such, so really it was just her warmest. Her hair was piled up in the heaviest of ponytails, mostly so it wouldn't fall all in the way as she helped her new tutor with their assignment and studies. This was her first meeting with the girl, so she didn't exactly know where they were at, study wise, so she had simply brought everything she owned on biology at that grade level. And she owned... a lot of books.

She had been given a short student folder with a student ID scan so she could pick out her girl out of the crowd. Not that there was much of one. Eva had picked a nice airy little coffee shop, that was close enough to the college that it was easy to get to via bus if need be, and had enough spacious seating that it was clearly aimed at students.

Spotting Nell, she waved enthusiastically, scampering over surprisingly fast in her dangerously high-high heels, and dropping her book bag into the chair across the little table from the high-school girl.

It hit the chair with an alarmingly loud thud.

" I'm so sorry I'm late!! Its very hard to drive a scooter when all of your weight is off to one side. " Okay so maybe driving her scooter wasn't the greatest of choices when one had to carry a book bag that probably weighed more than she did, BUT, it was either that or the old pick-up truck of her dads that she used for gardening.

Whatever, her scooter was cuter anyway.

Evalia looked absolutely beaming, there were few things that got her more excited than science. She wasn't aware, but she could be a teeny bit obnoxious in her joy of leaning. It was also the a**-crack of dawn... and she was a morning person.

Nell already had a third cup of coffee half-drained and two empties tossed aside. No stranger to early mornings, she knew well enough what her capabilities were, and functioning at asscrack-o-clock was not one of them... not without copious amounts of caffeine. Anyway, she liked the taste.

The tutor had been a requirement of her mother's. Science had been the one portion of the grade-completion test that Nell had bombed the hardest, and bio was what was on the docket according to her mom's education plan. Hence being subjected to a bio major's doubtless interested attentions for a morning every week, as opposed to a physics major. (Anyway, Nell had blown through physics way too fast as a freshman, or whatever the equivalent was.) To be frank, and Nell was almost never frank, she didn't have any clue what to expect. A homeschool student--like on-set tutors were really 'homeschool' teachers--she knew what professional tutors were like. Not college undergraduates. She supposed she'd find out, one way or another.

She looked up at the woman, sizing up the high heels, the lace, the extremely long hair. "Of course," she said, eyeballing the bag, too. It had made an intimidating thunk as it landed. "I mean, it gave me time to wake up. So that's good, isn't it?"

Eva gave her a grin " Oh good! Its always nice to enjoy some fresh morning air and sunshine ' She said, happy, and completely meaning it. Eva followed Nell's eyes to the bag " I wasn't exactly sure what you were completely familiar with, so I just brought a bit of everything for your grade bracket. Next time ill only bring a couple, specifically for what you need. " she nodded her head happily, and flopped down into the chair beside Nell with an "oof". Sounding like she was decompressing from rushing to get here and not leave the poor girl waiting forever.

The barista strolled by, the café not exactly thriving yet, and she ordered herself a very frothy sweetened drink, and a refill of " whatever she is drinking ' and turned to Nell, practically radiateing sunshine from her eyeballs.

" So, where are you at right now, darling? "

" Genetics? Micro-biology? Chemistry? Botany? " She asked, leaning a little closer, her voice clearly excited at the prospect of the last one, even if it wasn't usually covered extensively in high-school science.

"Uh..." Nell evidently wasn't that awake. She rolled over those topics in her mind, and stopped on... none of them. "Cell anatomy," she said. "Something like that. The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell." After a pause, she continued, "I'm like an endoplasmic reticulum: smooth or rough. That stuff." That was where they were, she was pretty sure.

She perched her chin on her knuckles and considered that this was certainly going to be a very long tutorship, if it was going to be like this forever.

" Oh, I have the perfect book for you. " She leaned over, flipping open her book bag and rifling through the contents, before pulling out two books, and what looked like a spiral bound notebook that wasn't exactly new, many of its pages dog-eared and its cover completely riddled with flowery doodles.

" This isn't the standard textbook, BUT I find its wording is much easier to understand and commit to memory. " She leaned closer, whispering loudly and conspiratorially " its Canadian " she said, with a serious nod. Contraband textbooks, it was serious business.

" This one is a copy of my freshman text book for college, so while its a little bit more advanced then the standard high school texts, I own this one, so I have everything that is pertinent highlighted. "

She set the books down, counting off the different markings on her fingers.

" Pink for statistics. Blue for dates and locations. Yellow for Peoples names and companies. Green for anatomy and chemical processes. Aaaaand Purple for miscellaneous but things that have a habit of showing up on tests to trip students up. "

She handed the spiral notebook over, laying it reverently on top of the two text books " This, is my notebook from when I took this class. We were using the same textbook as you, so all of the notes are aligned with the chapters in the standardized textbook. "

She looked very pleased with herself, for having actually found it. It was stuffed in a bookshelf in her old room, now an office, and hadn't been touched in years." Feel free to take them home and reference them, make your own notecards, ect. Just give them back when we move onto the next section. "

"O-kay," said Nell. She spent a lot of time looking at this lady skeptically, but anyone with notes this organized had to know what she was talking about, right? Who memorized textbooks, anyway?...

She would have to email her mom about this. Jenn would be so pleased to know she'd landed a good tutor.

Nell opened the Canadian textbook to a random page and scanned it quickly. "Um, so how do you want this to work? You're not going to make me do extra homework, are you? Because I so don't have time for that." She turned the page to an obnoxiously large diagram explaining cellular respiration, and her eyebrows climbed elegantly up her forehead. "I appreciate you going through all the work of doing this, but like... I gotta sleep and eat sometimes, you know?"

Eva blinked for a moment, before giggles erupted from her " Oh good lord no. I have enough of my own homework. " She said, stuffing the giggles back down, but she still have an edge of playful laughter in her voice even though her tone was sincere " I figure you can bring in your current homework, and if you need help, I can guide you through it. But, I do need you to bring in graded assignments as you get them back so we can figured out what when wrong, that way you don't have to spend any more time having information drilled into you that you already know "

She tapped the cover of the spiral notebook. " This is just a guide for notes. A lot of assignments allow you to take one notecard worth of materials with you to an exam. If you know what you are going to be taking a test or assignment on, you can find easy prewritten notes on things that you are having trouble remembering. "

Eva tapped her lip in thought with a manicured nail. One would never guess that yesterday she had been digging around in the frozen earth like a mad woman getting bulbs ready to go. " In fact, if you could bring in your past couple of assignments, it would really help me get a baseline for what I need to focus on helping you with, and what you are already set on. "

Nell nodded. "Yeah, sounds fair. I have to do all that work anyway, so why not?" If she did well, which she intended to, maybe this could even become a more social thing than a, you know... gotta do this or my mom will make me move back home or even worse to Crystal Academy... thing.

She finished her third cup of coffee just in time to accept the refill Eva had ordered. "So, like, what do you do when you're not teaching teenagers about the wonders of science? Can't imagine this is too enthralling."
